David, Renewed by Diana Copland: Release Day Review and Guest Post

September 21, 2016 by Denise

david-renewed-final-cover-artsynopsis

When interior designer David Snyder buys a beautiful century-old house in eastern Washington, he is reeling with heartbreak and looking for somewhere to put down roots. Unfortunately his new home comes with a laundry list of problems: electrical, plumbing, heating… things David knows nothing about. When his mother offers him the business card of a local handyman, David pictures an overweight, balding man in his fifties. But Jackson Henry couldn’t be further from that stereotype.

Dark-haired, muscular, and handsome, Jackson left a large construction firm in Seattle to take care of his sick mother. However, his hometown still has an active “good old boy” network, and finding employment in construction is almost impossible for an openly gay man. Determined to persevere, Jackson takes odd jobs as a handyman. He’s exactly what David needs—in more ways than one.

David isn’t ready for his attraction to Jackson, not considering the way his last relationship ended. But as the two men get to know each other, it becomes clear that the heart often knows best, and it rewards those willing to listen.

Hello, everyone!
First, I’d like to thank the two chicks of ‘Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy’ (best site name ever, btw) for doing my release day post for me!
David, Renewed is the first book I’ve written in two years, and it’s always going to have a special place in my heart. I love all of the characters I’ve written, but there’s just something about David and Jackson. David is so insecure and heart sore (understandably), and Jackson is gorgeous and sexy and really couldn’t care less that he is. Mostly, they’re just guys. They have families that come with their own sets of issues, jobs they work hard at, friends they love. In fact, more than any book I’ve ever written, their friends hold a place of prominence.
When I started this book, it was actually supposed to be a short story. (Ha! I suck at writing anything short. Major fail in that department. I start writing short and sexy and plot creeps in.) Anyway, as it grew from short to not short at all, their friends insisted on being included in the conversation. So much so that there will be two more books, just so they can get their turn!
One of the most important relationships in the first book is David and his best friend Michael. Michael is David’s executive assistant, but they became more friends than boss and employee almost immediately. Several years younger, twink cute and snarky as hell, Michael is still infinitely more experienced with dating than David is.
Today I thought I’d share with you a scene between David and Michael that didn’t make the cut. Sometimes, even things we love don’t make it into the final novel. This scene, where Michael helps David get ready for his first date with Jackson, was just such a scene.

DELETED SCENE:
When David emerged from the shower ten minutes later wearing nothing but a towel Michael was lying on his bed with a bowl of microwave popcorn between him and Bootsy and some of the reality crap he loved on the television. David was grateful he’d gotten an old blanket out of the hall linen closet and covered his expensive comforter first. He opened his closet and looked at his clothes, and had no idea what to wear. He turned to Michael.
“Help?”
Michael gave an exaggerated sigh but patted Boots on the head and scooted off the side of the bed. “Okay, what are we going for?”
“He told me to wear something sexy.”
Michael smiled in delight. “Did he now?” He all but rubbed his hands together in glee as he began to study David’s wardrobe. He shifted through the hangers where David’s pants hung neatly, pausing on a pair of black jeans. “Have I seen these before?”
David leaned over his arm. “Probably not. They’re kind of tight.”
“Can you sit in them?” David nodded. “Perfect.” Michael laid them on the foot of the bed. “Now, for a shirt.”
It took him longer to go through each of David’s many shirts, but finally he paused on a long sleeved pale green button down with a delicate dark gray lace pattern overlaid. He pulled it out and laid it on top of the jeans.
“You don’t think that one’s a little… girlie?”
Michael looked at him, one mobile dark brow cocked above the rim of his glasses. “Really? You want me to answer that?”
David rolled his eyes. “Shut up.”
Michael turned back to the closet and picked through David’s array of sweaters. He found a v-neck in dove gray and tossed it to the growing pile on the bed.
“Scarves? Jackets?”
“Other side.”
Michael slid the door over then studied what was revealed, patting his lower lip with his index finger as he looked between the clothes and David. Finally he pulled a dark gray scarf from a hanger and tossed it over his shoulder, rifling through the jackets.
He paused with his fingers on the shoulders of one. “Oh my God, where did this come from?”
He pulled the grey wool pea coat from the closet and held it up, staring raptly at the darker metal buttons and flipping back the side to admire the satin lining.
“I bought it for Trevor, but he never wore it.” David shrugged. “I didn’t figure he’d miss it.”
“Would you?” Michael held it up in front of him, then fingered the soft wool with a sigh.
David pondered for a moment. It really was more Michael’s style than his. “Probably not. You should take it.”
Michael’s eyes lit up like it was Christmas morning. “Seriously? Because I so will.”
“It’s all yours.”
Michael grinned in delight and hung the jacket aside on the bedroom doorknob. “Okay, back to making you sexy.” He shifted hangers to the side one at a time, then stopped again. “Hello, there. Where did this come from?”
He pulled a black leather motorcycle jacket from the closet and held it up.
“I bought that one for Trevor, too. He probably will miss it, but it was four hundred dollars.”
Michael laughed in delight. “I like the new and bitchier David.” He laid the clothes in a careful line, tucking the shirt inside the sweater, laying the scarf and jacket next to them. He studied them seriously, then picked up the scarf and went back to the closet. David frowned.
“I liked that one.”
“Too drab.” Michael returned it to the hanger and pulled out a woven infinity scarf with every shade of green imaginable melded. He lay in on the sweater, studied it, then nodded.
“You don’t think all of that is… too much?”
“It’s cold, David. Hence, layers. The jeans will hopefully show off your ass to advantage and the greens will bring out the color of your eyes. Now shut up and get dressed, because Prince Charming is due here in ten minutes.”
“What, so now I’m Cinderella?” David crossed to his dresser and pulled a pair of black briefs out of his top drawer, stepping into them and tossing the towel into the hamper.
“If the slipper fits.” Michael climbed back on the bed and Bootsy scooted closer and laid his chin on Michael’s thigh as he watched David get dressed. When David started to tuck his shirt tail into jeans that had been harder to get up his thighs than he liked to acknowledge, Michael made a noise of irritation.
“Don’t tuck it in. You aren’t heading to the office, David.”
“But the shirt is longer than the sweater.”
“I know. Layers, man. Layers. Hurry up or we’ll never get your hair done.”
“My hair?” David pulled the sweater on over his head. “What’s wrong with my hair?”
“Well, right now it looks like it was styled with a hand mixer.”
David gave him an irritated look and pushed the damp blond strands off of his face. “You know what I meant.”
Michael stood, lifting Boots carefully down from the bed, then grabbed David’s arm not nearly as carefully, pulling him down the hall into the faintly steamy bathroom. Boots sat in the doorway, watching avidly.
“I know what you meant,” Michael said, standing behind him and looking at David’s reflection over his shoulder in the mirror. David had to admit he’d been right about the shirt; it did make his eyes look greener than their usual stormy sea foam color. “And for work there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the ‘gee, ma, I combed my hair so nice for my sixth grade picture’ style you usually wear.” David gave him an irritated look. “However, you’re about to go out with a very sexy man.” He looked around the bathroom. “Please tell me you have styling gel somewhere?”
David pointed to a cupboard next to the hundred-year-old claw foot tub. “In there.”
Michael opened it. “If I thought for one second I could get away with it, I’d unhook this tub and carry it out over my shoulder.”
“There’s a mental image I want to savor,” David quipped.
“Shut up.” Michael came back to him, a large can of thirty dollar styling mouse David had used exactly once in his hand.
“That stuff makes my hair stiff,” he complained.
“Dur.” Michael pressed the pump and sprayed an artful spiral in his hand. He set the can aside and rubbed the mouse gently between his palms, then began to massage it into David’s hair. While it was still standing up in artless spikes, he picked up David’s wide toothed comb and began to arrange his hair from the natural part into a rougher, messier style than he usually wore. He worked carefully, the tip of his tongue between his teeth, then paused studying David’s head carefully. “Okay, you’re done.”
David looked in the mirror, his nose wrinkled. “It looks like I just woke up.”
“Exactly!” Michael grinned in triumph. “Now, go put on your shoes. And don’t wear those ugly loafers. Put on those sexy half boots you’ve worn like… once.”
“Those loafers were expensive,” David griped, heading back towards his bedroom.
“Let me guess; Trevor picked them out.”
David stopped and turned back. “How did you know that?”
“Because they look like something he’d wear.”
David vowed to wear the ‘sexy half boots’ more often and retire the loafers.
The doorbell rang and David stiffened as Boots ran toward the door, barking brightly. David looked at Michael, panic flashing through him.
“Go finish getting ready,” Michael said. “I can entertain him for five minutes. And spritz some cologne on before you come out.”
David rushed into the bedroom. He heard Michael, then a responding deep voice. Pleasure made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end and he quickly put on socks and the black boots. Slipping into the jacket he hesitated over the scarf, but then looped it over his head, haphazardly arranging its folds. Michael clearly knew more about dressing stylishly than he did. He was about to leave the room when he remembered Michael’s prompt and picked up a bottle of cologne from his dresser and added one short spritz. He wasn’t much for colognes, but this one was a subtle blend of cedar and musk and he liked it. More nervous than he’d anticipated, he took a deep breath and walked out of his room.

denise review

Diana Copland was new to me as an author, but I loved the premise of starting again, after such an ugly breakup. Finding love where you don’t expect it, is one of my favorite tropes, and this one is perfect.

I really appreciated that the author did not have these men fall instantly in love. They needed time. time to learn about each other. Time for David to trust Jackson, but most importantly, time to trust himself and see himself as a worthy individual once again. That was hard to do with Trevor hanging out in the woodwork, causing trouble. However, with each successive encounter with people who cared about him, he learned that he was worth every amount of love that he was showered with.

I also like that a few things were left open ended. We didn’t find out one of the little mysteries (which may or may not ever be solved, depending on the author’s concern). And we didn’t have a chance to see what Michael and Gil might grow to be. Ah, but that can always be another book in a series.

The secondary characters, even down to Bootsy all had their own stories that we learned as we went along, and it helped the reader to really see how this community of men could grow and become a family of their own making.

Diana Copland began writing in the seventh grade, when she shamelessly combined elements of Jane Eyre and Dark Shadows to produce an overwrought Gothic tale that earned her an A- in creative writing, thanks entirely to the generosity of an indulgent teacher. She wrote for pure enjoyment for the next three decades before discovering LiveJournal and a wonderful group of supportive fanfiction writers who encouraged her to try her hand at original gay fiction. Born and raised in southern California, Diana moved to the Pacific Northwest after losing a beloved spouse to AIDS in 1995. She lives in eastern Washington with four horribly spoiled cats, near her two wonderful adult children who swear she doesn’t embarrass them. She thinks they’re so cute.

Research…

Thank you very much to Two Chicks Obsessed for hosting me today!

I asked if there were any topics that they’d like me to blog on, and Denise said she likes to know how authors research their books.

Okay, here is where I admit that I’m not a terribly good researcher. You’d think I’d be better at it, given I have a Bachelor’s in English, but I’m not. It isn’t even that I don’t like learning stuff about, well everything, but research takes time away from the writing. On the other hand, research is sometimes necessary.

I research kind of like I write – I’m not an outliner, I’m a pantser. In research terms that means I’m not a research aheader, I do it on an as needed basis. So when I come across some details that I don’t have at the tip of my brain, I will look it up. Occasionally, I will leave myself a note in the manuscript – look up what frozen meals Swanson makes – to look up when I am doing my read-through before submitting, but I have often found that I need the information I’m looking up to inform what happens in the next few chapters, so it’s usually easier to just look stuff up as I get to it instead of saving it for later.

For Emergency Services, this wound up being some medical stuff, and a bit of how shifts work for firemen here in Canada.

In a perfect world, I would have all the time in the world for research and then I’d just read books on all sorts of subjects, some of which would hopefully come in useful for the writing, too. One day, right?

Guest Post

Thank you so much for hosting me. This will be my third GayRomLit retreat but the first time I’ll be coming as a featured author.

image009The first time I sat behind a table with my books set out in front of me so people could connect my face with my stories, I was scared. In my community I was an educator, the person greeting preschoolers and their parents at the classroom door. No one knew I was bisexual, that I moonlighted as a writer, and that I passionately supported LGBTQ+ equality. No one knew I wrote MM Romance. Thankfully that first experience was at my local Pridefest, so an interested and open audience surrounded me.

I quickly learned that I had no clue how to sell my books. People would ask me what I wrote, and aside from saying contemporary MM romance, I had no effective way to share my stories so they sounded appealing, and it all came down to how I was raised.

Be humble.

I’m not a saleswoman, and with each person I engaged, I felt this hot feeling in my gut because I was talking myself up. When I shared this experience with my friend and fellow MM author, Teegan Loy, she expressed the same feelings. We were both raised with Midwestern humility stitched into our very fiber, so talking ourselves up was very much out of our comfort zone, even if it meant more readers. Sending out release day notices and writing blog posts was easy, but face-to-face interactions? Yikes!

My first GayRomLit was a few months after Pride, and I came as a supporting author. As I sat in Chicago at the book signing, I was still nervous, even in a setting where I was expected to chat myself up. So I kept on going to events. Last year, I attended a local authors’ meet-and-greet and went to GRL in San Diego. Then this summer I went to Twin Cities Pride, where I sat in a booth for two days talking to people about books. I watched other authors sell their books as well.GRL Featured Author

What I walked away with from all these experiences is that I needed to simplify. As the author, I know all the subtext, symbolism, and the messages I was hoping to convey, but that makes for a lousy introduction to the books. I write novels because it takes 80,000 words to tell that one story, and I occasionally write series because the story can’t be told in one novel. It doesn’t help that I write books across the board too, from angst to fluff to kink.

So as GRL in Kansas City has been approaching, I’ve been trying to find a better way to tell you, readers and potential readers, what you can expect from my books. First, I reworked all of my taglines. Second, I focused on the tropes in each book. Third, I decided to take advantage of visuals. From reviewers’ comments over the years, I know I write meaty stories that are not easy to boil down in a few lines, so that got me thinking about food. At GRL and on my website, I will give you a reduction sauce of my books: one taste so you know what you’re getting. 😉 One thing led to another, and I ended up with a quick flavor system for my books represented by food. What else?

posyratingsystem

Sweet stories will be fluffy and light-hearted. Spicy stories will have some kink in them. Savory stories—which are my bread and butter—are full meals, dark and earthy in spots, but with a nice finish at the end. And bitter or bitter-sweet (because I write romance, I will never leave you hanging) will have moments of angst where the characters suffer on their way to change and growth. Many stories have a fusion of flavors as well. I know there are times I crave a fluffy, light-hearted story, and other times I want to feel a character’s experience all the way down to my toes, so this will help with that as well.

I’m in the process of creating mini cards to bring to GRL to let you pick your flavor, and I’ve created a page on my website for the same purpose. Here’s a sampling so you can see what to expect. I’d love to hear what you think. I can’t wait to talk to you face-to-face. I’d love to learn about what you like in a book so I can help find one of mine you can savor. 😉

I just finished a blog tour for Waiting for Patrick yesterday. I’m offering giveaways of one signed copy, one electronic copy, and a choice of one title from my backlist. It’s not too late to enter. I will choose and announce a winner at 5PM EST on September 16th, the release day of my book. Feel free to go around and comment on as many blogs as you want. One comment, one entry.

Crossword Puzzle

So, I just finished my blog tour, and had a wonderful time. But I find I’m running out of blog post ideas. But, never fear. I was a teacher for thirty years before becoming a mental health counselor. So, I created a crossword. The information needed for the crossword is all in one or the other of my blog tour posts (listed below) or in the blurb.

Try your hand at the crossword here: http://crosswordlabs.com/view/waiting-for-patrick-2

If you prefer a little less of a challenge, go to the shorter version here: http://crosswordlabs.com/view/waiting-for-patrick

If you give up, “Patrick” is the password for both that will give you the answer key.

Have fun.

denise review

My favorite period of history, bar none, is the American Civil War. It has always fascinated me, and I have researched and read many different thing on it. So, when I read the words “Civil War” in the blurb, I knew I wanted to read it, and wanted a guest post on it. I wasn’t disappointed.

This book is a ghost story, along with some other little spots of surprise, but all in all its a love story. I don’t read ghost stories. Ever. Not in my comfort zone. Not something I even really want to read. Why? Because they don’t have happy endings. I need my HEA. That is why I read romance. You gotta give me a happy ending or I am out! So, I was nervous. But Waiting for Patrick was just what I needed. There was a beautiful HEA, which I won’t lie, left me BAWLING at the end of  the book. But I got what I was looking for, my HEA.

The love story of Ben and Patrick was told beautifully through the dreams that Elliott sees when he sleeps. Two men that never really questioned their love. And when Ben died after being injured in the Civil War, and Patrick left, Ben waited in that house for Patrick’s return. He was devoted to Patrick and would not deviate. He was waiting for Patrick without question.

Elliott meanwhile falls in love with the ghost of Ben, and Ben returns his feelings. A love triangle like none other. Yet you don’t feel angst, because you can feel the emotions, and you can see where this is heading. It doesn’t hurt any less as you get there, your heart will be ripped apart, but the love is so strong that you can’t help but feel joy as to what you know is coming.

This book was a bit longer than it needed to be, I think, with a few scenes that could have been cut, or reduced to just the necessary components. Although it didn’t detract from the story, those extra pieces did not add to the story as they should have.

All in all, though, I really loved this book. I loved the story, both past and present. I loved seeing how easily Elliott was able to find love when he’d felt uneasy about it his entire life. I will be re-reading this book at some point. Thank you to Brynn Stein for giving me a ghost story I could love. 🙂

Some wounds never heal. George Zajac grew up in a religious family with a father who beat “the swish” out of him. At thirty-eight he’s a troubled man. Escaping his miserable life as a banker in New York, he moves across the country to start again in Los Angeles as the catering chef for a prestigious French Restaurant. Kenny Marks, a writer who’s currently waiting tables, is everything George cannot be—flamboyant, proud and sexually confident. Enthralled by Kenny, and against his own better judgment, George agrees to a date. Sparks fly. The sex is amazing. But even after the two get close, George is crippled by humiliating sexual hang-ups. Still haunted by his childhood, he lingers in the closet and can’t commit to a relationship with Kenny.

Love is the great healer, but is it enough? George’s emotional scars could drive Kenny away, and with him, George’s last chance at happiness.

**Bread, Salt and Wine was previously published by Loose ID in June 2013, but is being re-released with a fabulous new cover, designed by Jordan Castillo Price.**

As the elevator door opened I saw Kenny and another waiter standing by the door, each carrying a large tray of dirty glassware.

“I don’t even know if he’s—” Kenny broke off as the door opened. His eyes widened when he saw me. He blushed. Kitchens can be capricious places. Maybe the last catering chef had discouraged talk among the waiters. I gave them both a nod and a smile and held the door open to show that it was fine with me. As long as the guests didn’t hear, what did I care what they talked about? Kenny was a good waiter. I made a mental note to have him on crew as often as possible.

I write contemporary gay romance. My characters are flawed and damaged adult men who may not even know they’re looking for true love, but when they meet their bershert, their true love, their lives are transformed. My stories are set in the real world where gay men have gay friends, families who do or don’t accept them, personal histories they’re not necessarily proud of and a myriad of experiences that have made them who they are.

I live in Northern Wisconsin with my Boston Terrier and Chicago spouse. I’ve published short stories, poetry, newspaper articles and academic papers and have worked in nearly every profession from restaurants to retail to open-water diving and now write m/m romance out of my fascination with love, courage and gender.

On the Streets of New Orleans by Lynn Lorenz: Cover Reveal, Excerpt and Giveaway

September 12, 2016 by Denise

Guest Post

Hello to Two Chicks!! I’m thrilled to be here doing a cover reveal for my new Dreamspinner duo anthology On the Streets of New Orleans.
As a native New Orleanian and a transplanted Texan, I’ve written quite a few books set in both Texas and Louisiana. Both places hold pieces of my heart, but New Orleans definitely edges Texas out (sorry my Texas peeps!). It’s where I’m from and my true home.
With a little over 40 books/novellas under my belt, these books are some of my dearest.
I’m so honored to have my cover reveal here and so proud of the beautiful covers the amazing artist AngstyG produced for me. It was so easy working with AngstyG and as you can see, the results just sing!
This is one of my re-released stories and I’m so proud to say it’s coming out with DSP. They are a company I’ve admired and wanted to join for a few years, but never had the opportunity. I’m so glad they enjoyed my stories enough to give me this chance. I hope there will be many more stories to come!

giveaway
For my reveal, I’m offering a ebook copy, in choice of format, for a lucky commenter to the blog. I’ll let Two Chicks do the selecting, but I’ll ask when you comment, let me know if you’ve ever been to New Orleans or wanted to go there. It’s one of the places I never get tired of visiting, and those who know me, know I plan all my trips there around the food. If you’ve been, tell me about your favorite meal!
Thanks again to Two Chicks for letting me crash and show off my cover!

TCO: Thank you to Lynn for stopping by with this amazing cover and excerpt! Great job by AngstyG.

synopsis
Anthology Novella

Breakfast at Tiffany’s Waffles and Wings
A year after Hurricane Katrina, Scott is back in the city he loves, the city that offered him sanctuary from rural Louisiana and its prejudices, but living in a homeless shelter can be almost as dangerous as the streets.
The storm cost Tony his family, his home, and his direction in life. Now he’s squatting and stealing to make ends meet, and he’s lost all hope of things getting better.
When Scott and Tony meet, they realize it’s time to stop merely surviving. It’s time to start living again. Together.

Charlie’s Mission
Charlie is an ex-addict plagued by memories of the past. He’s doing penance working at a homeless shelter, staying away from men, drugs, and anything resembling happiness. He’s convinced he doesn’t deserve more.
Devon is determined to keep the dealers out of his neighborhood. No one operates there without his permission. When he brings a sick young man, who was selling drugs, to the mission he meets Charlie and can’t stop thinking of the man with the haunted eyes. He’s determined to give Charlie a taste of pleasure, despite Charlie’s claims that he’s not worthy of it.

excerpt

The kid had stopped running, and now he quick-footed it. Tony managed to get within a block of him. They were coming up on the Café du Monde, and when the smell of the frying beignets hit his nostrils, his tummy growled. Yeah, they sure would taste some good right about now.
And he had the money to buy them. And a cup of good café au lait too.
He licked his lips as he paused on the sidewalk across from the place. All he had to do was cross the street, sit in a chair, and order up some.
Tony glanced back at the kid. He’d crossed to the next block, and soon he’d be out of sight.
With a deep inhale, Tony sucked in the aroma of the beignets, then took off down the block to catch up with the white guy. He’d get the food on the way back, for sure.
He closed the gap between them. Where the hell was this guy heading? Esplanade Avenue was just ahead, and once he crossed that, he’d be in the Fouberg Marigny.
The kid stopped for a lone car, then crossed Esplanade, the shadows of the huge oaks plunging him into darkness. For a moment Tony thought he’d lost the guy, but he stepped up on the far sidewalk and back into the light.
Tony smiled and hurried on.
Two blocks in, his target turned into an alley and disappeared.
Halting, Tony stared at the sign over the two-story building, his mouth hanging open, watering at the sight and the smells.onthestreetsofneworleans_fbprofile_small
Tiffany’s Waffles and Wings
Breakfast served all day
What the hell? That was a damned long way to walk for some breakfast. What was the kid up to?
Tony moved forward, scanning both sides of the street. Light poured out from the two large windows that fronted the sidewalk, the door to the place between them. Parked cars lined both sides of the street, belonging to either residents or customers; he didn’t know which. Didn’t care.
He crept to the window and peeked in.
The place was crowded, not full, but at four in the morning, not bad at all. He glanced at the table nearest the window and moaned.
The biggest, most bodacious waffle he’d ever seen sat on a huge platter, three pats of butter melting on it, surrounded by three of the most golden, succulent-looking, mouth-watering, crispy fried chicken wings.
Sweet Jesus. He’d died and gone to heaven.

Scott pulled his apron over his head and tied it around his waist.
“Where y’at, sugar?” Miss Tiffany greeted him as she looked up from the counter where she tended a row of six waffle makers. “You late.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Scott nodded as he checked out her latest hair-do. This morning, she wore dozens of braids decorated with black and gold beads. They matched the black and gold Saints jersey she wore over black leggings. He’d never seen a woman with so many different ways to wear her hair, and he suspected most of them weren’t really hers.
She frowned at him. A beep sounded, and she rotated a waffle machine to cook the other side of the waffle. Then she brushed off her hands and came over to him, snatching his chin and head in her large red-brown hands as she stared at the marks on his face.
“Who did this, dawlin’?” Storms swirled in her deep amber eyes.
“Someone jumped me and took my money. I’m fine.” He knew better than to try to jerk away from her. She was strong as hell from lifting forty-pound bags of waffle mix and gallon jugs of milk. But the rest of her was round as a peach and soft as a goose down pillow.
“He got yo money?” She tsked, shook her head, and let him go.
“Just five dollars.” He shrugged. He had more in a savings account in the bank, where he kept most of his money. But it was the weekend, and no banks were open. Any cash he’d need would have to come from his tips today.
“You call the po-po?”
“No. No police.” He shook his head, and she nodded in unspoken agreement. What was the point in calling the police? The cops were overworked and stretched thin. Scott and Miss Tiffany both knew nothing would be done, and then he’d just have the cops noticing him.
Not good.
“Damn. Can’t a boy walk down the street without gettin’ mugged?” She gave him a quick kiss on his cheek and a slap on his ass as she turned him around. “Go on. Get in there. I got tables need busin’. Then you can wait tables.”

Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
My review of:The Den by Cora RoseThis is an interesting and different kind of series. I am not always the biggest on shifters or ABO, but let's be honest. I will read anything Cora Rose writes.I was hooked with book 1 which broke my heart into pieces but put it back together again. This book had a different vibe, although I still enjoyed it.We all know the "omg he's my boss" trope. Except this time the boss is an omega and the employee is an alpha. And they've...had relations ;) that were a bit unconventional.Arbor, the omega boss, is different from a traditional omega. I won't say here but because of that his mother had stressed over and over and over that alphas weren't to be trusted and they were only after one thing and will treat you badly. But alpha Glenn is so not like that at all. There was a lot of push pull. I want it, no I don't, etc. on Arbor's part. A bit more of his background with his mother would have cemented that discord better for me.I really liked how Glenn stood up for himself and didn't just blow off something Arbor had done. I hate when characters are stepped all over in the name of love. But that didn't happen here.I definitely want more about the other half of Arbor, which we definitely get hints of. It definitely interesting with the werewolf packs (actual shifters), a shaman, ABO and others. And not everyone fits into their born into roles. This one didn't make me feel like the first one did but it was still a good read.4 pieces of eye candy ... See MoreSee Less

My grip is tight and sure, and suddenly the goal of this is lost to both of us as Cielo thrusts his hips up into my fist and I watch him do it.I can’t look away.I can’t stop.Fuck, this was supposed to be about measuring him. About trying to get the information I need for the sex toy. I should pull my hand away.My movements falter slightly, but Cielo lets out a frustrated moan that burrows deep beneath my skin, making my cock twitch.I’m so turned on.I want to crawl up on top of him, slot our cocks together, and stroke.I could measure his cock that way. I could—I should—fuck it.I let go of him, and his tail grabs onto me tighter, pulling me close, his eyes almost wild. They’re almost purely black, his lips raw from biting them. A bit of blood sits where his fang pierced his lip“I know, baby. I know,” I say as I crawl up onto him and pull my pants down slightly. Cielo watches me do it, his nostrils flaring. “I’m going to do this, okay? I’m going to make it so good for you. Is that okay?”✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up here for this amazing release: bit.ly/tasteEMLCRsignup#corarose #emlindsey #monsterromance The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less
