Educating the Professor by Sean Michael: New Release Review

February 19, 2019 by Denise

Kenneth Brannigan is a small-town history professor. He’s happy with his life, loves the classes he teaches, and lives in a tiny apartment in a converted house with his best friend, Tim, next door. He’s still recovering from a bad breakup and is content to stick to his comfortable routine. It’s Tim who insists he come to the Queer Alliance’s Rainbow Mixer.

At the mixer, Kenn meets David Burgundy, a new-to-town TA who is working on his masters. Dave is drawn immediately to Kenn and is thrilled when Kenn offers to show him the best pizza place in town. One meal leads to two, which leads to Dave and Kenn spending most of their free time together… and Kenn loosening his self-imposed rules regarding dating and sex for some kinky fun.

Kenn’s ex isn’t going to just let Kenn be, though, and the happier Kenn is with Dave, the less the ex likes it. Will Kenn continue to run away from his past, or will his relationship with Dave help him face it head-on?

Love this story!

This story has it all: a little bit of kink, a little bit of drama, one hell of a good story. The characters are well developed with great backstory. Even the secondary characters were entertaining. The story is believable and thoroughly enjoyable.

Once I picked this one up I couldn’t put it down which is why Sean Michael has become one of my favorite authors.

Educating the Professor by Sean Michael: Exclusive Guest Post and Excerpt

February 5, 2019 by Denise

TCO is happy to have Sean Michael stopping by with a guest post about finding the unexpected when writing a new book, and an excerpt that’s quirky while setting up the story nicely. Educating the Professor looks like it has all the sexy of a Sean Michael BDSM book, and a bit of intrigue to round out the romance. Can’t wait! Thanks for stopping by Sean!

Thank you to Two Chicks Obsessed for hosting me today!

I love it when a book surprises me as I write it, and Educating the Professor is one such book. I had no idea Kenn’s ex was going to be involved. I knew that Kenn was a sub, but one who was reluctant, who hadn’t done a whole lot. And I knew Dave was his one and only and would be a great Dom for him. They were made for each other.

Then, when I thought the book was about Kenn learning about the lifestyle he’s so fascinated by (online at any rate), his ex showed up and suddenly there’s a very good reason why Kenn hasn’t ever done anything in the lifestyle, why he doesn’t even ever talk about it with anyone. It was a good surprise for sur and I’m glad there was more to the story than I thought.

My characters are good at that – they all come with their own baggage and stories and let me know it on a regular basis!

I hope you enjoy Kenn and Dave’s story; they’re sweet and kinky boys and I had a blast writing them.

Dave grabbed his beer and took a sip before wandering away from the bar. He had to give it to the Queer Alliance—they really knew how to decorate for a Rainbow Mixer. It totally looked like a unicorn had barfed all over the place.

His newly self-appointed best friend, Anita, sidled up next to him. “Looks great, doesn’t it?”

Given that she was on the event committee, he knew she’d had a hand in the decorations.

“Very colorful,” he told her, hoping she didn’t press him. He didn’t like lying, but he didn’t want to hurt her feelings either. He was generally more of a black leather and silver buckle sort of man, but this was… impossible to ignore.

She was happy with his answer, bouncing and kissing his cheek.

He was new to the campus, coming to the university to do his masters, and had found a room with five other TAs who lived in a great big old house—frat style, really. And honestly, he was grateful Anita had latched on to him. She knew everyone and everything about the school. She’d been the one to insist that the mixer was the best way to meet people.

It was certainly well-attended—undergrads and graduate students, along with professors, some of whom had the confident joviality of tenured faculty while others appeared more anxious to please. Impressive.

Anita took hold of his arm and began dragging him around, introducing him to everyone. It was a good thing he had a knack for putting together self-reminders for names and faces because he must have met a hundred people in less than an hour. His beer was long gone, and Anita seemed determined to ensure he met absolutely everyone before letting him go get another.

“Have you met Drs. Brannigan and Parker? They’re from the history department.”

“My first history profs,” he joked. He shook their hands, giving the slender blond a longer smile. Pretty. Very pretty.

“I’m Tim, this is Kenneth.” The redhead was bouncy, all kinetic energy. “Anita, you have outdone yourself.”

Dave wondered for one brief moment what it would take to tame that vivacity. A little bondage? No, a lot of bondage. But most of his attention remained on the much quieter Kenneth. With this man the trick would be to make him lose control. It could be a delicious challenge.

“Thank you, Dr. Parker,” Anita said. “I appreciate it. Do you mind if I leave David here with you? I have to check on the snacks.”

“Of course. We’ll make sure he doesn’t get lost.” Tim had a quick smile. “Oh look, Kenn! There’s a reporter. Let’s go talk to him.”

“Go ahead, Tim. I’m not interested in publicity, huh?”

“Oh. Right. I got it. I’ll just go and see what’s what.”

Dave chuckled as the redhead bebopped his way over to the reporter. “If we could bottle that energy….”

“Yes indeed. We all say that twelve times a day.”

But this time, it isn’t just Stack’s demanding career as a big-cat vet putting strain on their relationship. Robin also has a new job that takes up a lot of his time.

Thank you to Two Chicks Obsessed for hosting me today!

One of the characters in The Eager Boy – Stack – rides a motorcycle. I have a neat coincidence happening. The book came out this week, and this week is also the week when our weather turned from winter to summer (yeah, we have kind of skipped over most of spring) which means that there were suddenly a whole bunch of motorcycles on the road. Given that for six months of the year the roads are fairly traitorous for two wheeled vehicles, most drivers of motorcycles only use them during the late spring, summer and early fall.

There’s something sexy about a man on a motorcycle, isn’t there? There’s the leathers they wear to keep the bugs and wind from trashing their skin, not to mention to help against road rash should they have an accident. And there’s the image of the motorcycle driver being a bad boy. Yum.

I’m not that knowledgeable about motorcycles, but even I can recognize something unique and special when I see it on the road. There’s one here in the city that is this really dark pearlized purple with always brightly polished chrome. It’s quality. That’s the kind of bike I like to think that Stack rides. Something that makes people who see it immediately think that it’s quality and it’s driver is hot 😉

Whether you’re into motorcycles or not, I hope you enjoy Stack and Robin’s story.

I do like Sean Michael’s writing. It is real, the conversations are how I would expect to hear them as if I was standing next to the characters in real life, and the issues that come up are often ones you see in your own relationships or those around you.

This book with Robin and Stack was a second chance romance, Robin having left Stack months before because Stack was not giving him the attention he needed. And Stack, when he had the chance to get his boy back, realized he needed to change. However, I felt like it wasn’t the most sincere of changes in the beginning. Stack claimed not to know why Robin left, and clearly communication was an issue, but not having spent the time to understand why he left, before trying to reclaim their love lost me somehow.

I loved that Robin decided to reclaim his independence, getting a job, and his own apartment, working out on his terms. However, when he met up with Stack again, he seemed to immediately fall into whatever Stack wanted to do, which in the short run included getting into bed, and a scene. I felt that keeping his job was essential to him continuing a path towards independence, even if they lived together.

Although, I liked the characters, and their second chance, I felt like there were some pieces missing. I would love to catch up with them later, though, and see if that has been addressed.

Daddy, Daddy, and Me by Sean Michael: Exclusive Guest Post and Release Day Review

February 21, 2018 by Denise

When Jeff agreed to be the sperm donor to his best friend Beth, he never expected a tragedy to leave his newborn and three-year-old motherless. Beth’s loss has totally thrown his life into chaos: his lover has left him, his house isn’t anywhere near childproof, and his boss feels the restaurant has been patient enough with Jeff’s time off.

Donny has always known he wanted to work with kids, and he just finished his degree in early childhood education. He didn’t count on the prejudice he’d face as not only a male nanny, but a gay one at that. Job-hunting has been frustrating to say the least, so when he knocks on Jeff’s door and is greeted by the sounds of things breaking and a pair of screaming children, he thinks maybe he can begin this particular interview with a trial by fire.

Becoming the nanny to Jeff’s children might be a dream come true for Danny and exactly what Jeff needs, but are either of them ready to really be a family?

Thank you to Two Chicks Obsessed for hosting me today.

As Daddy, Daddy and Me features a couple of kids, I thought I’d share my top five favorite kids’ books growing up. I read all the following multiple times as a kid. And yes, I adored series because that meant I got to stay in the world I loved.

Top Five Favourite Kid’s books

  1. Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. My copies of these were dog-eared. It was fascinating reading about this little girl who grew up a long time ago.

  1. The Hobbit by JJR Tokien – I read the Lord of the Rings books in my early teens, but this book in my childhood and it helped form my lifelong love of fantasy/sci-fi

  1. Z is for Zachariah by Robert C O’Brien – I remember taking this one out of the library (more than once.) If The Hobbit turned me onto fantasy, this book turned me onto post-apocalyptic fiction.

  1. Anne Of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery Anne taught me that it was good to use my imagination and that being ‘normal’ and ‘just like everyone else’ were not the be all and end all.

  1. Famous Five series by Enid Blyton – I was first introduced to these at the English bookstore in Heidelberg and loved them beyond reason. We would go back every week and get a new one until I had them all 21 of them. Then I re-read them.

There were many more of course, we started going to the library as early as I can remember and my mother stuck a book in my crib to keep me company in the mornings from six months on, but those are five that stick out in my mind.

Smut fixes everything

This one is such a sweet read with really cute kids and an awesome Uncle/manny love story.

Jeff agrees to be a sperm donor for his best friend in the world, thinking he could be a totally awesome uncle and nothing else. Until tragedy strikes and he is left raising two little people who miss their mom while trying prove life goes on without a best friend and now an absentee boyfriend.

Donny has recently graduated with a degree in early childhood education but is having a tough time finding a job. Once people find out he’s gay they can’t get rid of him fast enough. Praying this next interview is his last, Donny is surprised to find Jeff might need him just as much as Donny needs this job.

Trial by fire doesn’t even begin to cover it. Jeff is in way over his head, overworked and running on no sleep doesn’t help when dealing with grieving kids. Donny steps in to help and Jeff can see a noticeable difference in the kids in such a short time. It seems Donny has been good for all of them. Jeff just needs to stop the inappropriate thoughts he’s having about Donny before he scares him right out of their lives. Little does he know, Donny is fighting his own attraction.

When Jeff’s ex returns to cause trouble for the new couple, Jeff and Donny will need to decide if they’re stronger together or apart and what’s best for their little family.

The story is really entertaining , but I love that all the drama in the story revolves around outside characters. Donny and Jeff are pretty chill, letting the love evolve naturally. It felt so real, never forced. The was they come together as a family is so beautiful.

If ever I have wanted to throat punch a character Jeff’s ex would be number one on that list. What a tool! But his resurfacing just proves how blind a person can be and what they thought was love was just mere lust because true love makes everything else dull.

Great read. I couldn’t put it down.

With four girls, single dad Ryan Withers has his hands too full to look for romance. He’s not complaining—he loves his daughter and the three nieces he adopted when their parents died, and he would do anything for them. He’s caught off guard when his mother and daughter decide to play matchmaker.

Alex Bernot works in disaster relief, his job taking him all over the world, helping others, for extended periods of time. He’s staying with his aunt while he’s home, and she sets him up on a blind date. Finding a special someone isn’t really on his mind, but he goes to make his aunt happy.

Ryan and Alex enjoy each other’s company more than either of them expected, and they soon make a second date. Their lives are complicated, though, in very different ways, and soon family needs and their jobs conspire to pull them apart. They’ll need to figure out how to work through the things keeping them apart, but first they’ll have to decide if they even want to….

I went into Daddy Needs a Date with no information other than what I got from the cover. Kids and a dad who needs some adult interaction. These are things I understand, so I dove in.

Ryan definitely has his hands full with not only his own child, but also the three little girls he adopted when his sister died. From page one, I loved Ryan, because he has a huge heart and it’s so apparent he will do anything for his girls. Including facials with ranch dressing, which I’m not sure I fully understand or am brave enough to try, but it has to be love to let that garlicky goodness soak into your pores.

I wanted to be upset with Alex, or maybe the meddling women who set him up on a blind date with Ryan, when he found out Ryan was a father of four. But it was a realistic reaction and he didn’t bolt away from dinner. He won my heart when… okay, not telling you that, because it’s a HUGE part of the story and I don’t see how anyone wouldn’t love him.

But then he left. And I was more angry with Ryan, his mom, and his oldest daughter (the women being 2/3 of the set up crew) for being upset that he left. Yes, it sucked and the timing was horrible, but they knew ahead of time what he did for a living. It was unrealistic for them to think he could just stay.

When Alex came back, we got to see their growth as a family. Was it too fast? Probably. Would it happen in real life? Probably. Like I said above, something happens that makes it nearly impossible for Alex to not be part of their lives. And it proves that he’s a good man through and through. I love the fact that one of the girls became just a little more special to him than the others. I even liked that the teenager didn’t always love him.

Daddy Needs a Date was a great read. Some angst, but not as much as there could’ve been. My only complaint is that the book ended.

Together with law enforcement and private security, they embark on a twisting investigation to find the little girl—and who wants to hurt her and destroy both men in the process. Under the circumstances, confessing he still has feelings for Eric would be inappropriate, but Brock can’t deny what’s in his heart. He doesn’t know if their love can be rekindled or if he can even protect Eric and Josie. But one thing is certain: Brock’s determined to be the hero in reality that he is in Eric’s eyes.

Thank you very much for hosting me today!

With it being Thanksgiving, I’m thinking about how Eric and Brock would celebrate the holiday and I’m pretty sure they would approach things from very different angles.

Eric would plan ahead. He’d make up menus for the day before Thanksgiving, then Thanksgiving itself and he’d even make plans for what to do with the leftovers. He’d find recipes and by the time Thanksgiving week would arrive he’d have everything he could buy ahead bought would be purchased and he’d have all his lists made up – no doubt attached to the fridge with magnets.

Brock on the other hand would want to lavish Eric and Josie with everything possible, but rather than planning out and doing everything himself, he’d order everything to be made and delivered by a private chef.

Both men would consider what they’d done a way to show their love for their family.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my US readers, and happy November to everyone else.

smut fixes everything

Eric’s daughter is kidnapped from her daycare and left a ransom note on his car. Im not sure when the daycare noticed her missing, as Eric just picked her up and noticed she was gone, or what… but instead of calling the police, he calls Brock…his ex from nine years ago. Now, I’m not sure what Brock does, but he seems to have infinite money and “kidnapping” experts on his payroll, so…they jumped in to try to get Eric’s daughter Josie back.

Now, nothing in the beginning of this story goes by protocol at all. It’s hands down ridiculous! The handling of the kidnapping, the police, taking Josie to the hospital, Brock just being the one in charge of Josie, even though he’s not family…him taking her out of her room and out of the hospital and to other buildings…You can’t do that! Even if he was her parent, he still couldn’t do that! You can’t just take an admitted baby out of her room and walk to another building with her lol that’s insane! Then his lawyer just checked her out of the children’s hospital without being seen again or anything with a man that wasn’t her guardian?  I mean… he is her guardian, but nobody knew that yet. And that was another ridiculous thing…he was named guardian of her in case anything were to ever happen to Eric, but he and Brock hadn’t been together for near on a decade…. Could you imagine?? What if something had happened to him after a decade later and then someone showed up on his doorstep with a baby and was like SURRISE! You’re her guardian! …..all that part was just so unbelievable.

Now, if you’re like me though, and don’t care about the randomness and unlikelihood of some plot points…I can overlook a lot. I enjoy the fluffiness and the endearments, although baby and Eric’s constant thinking Brock is his “hero”…But I like a good family book, with hot guys and their baby’s. It made it somewhat redeemable. The dialogue was also kind of cheesy, lots of “lover’s” and again, the repetitive “baby’s”

Now, the people who kidnapped Josie, was…Okay, just know that it isn’t what it seems, because the first reason, the initial thought of why, was so extra, that I was like…seriously??? But putting all the pieces together later, makes more sense. Not a lot of sense, cuz the person behind it is a serious whack job, but I guess it’s more believable than the initial thought.

I also really wish we’d have found out what happened to Gordon’s partner Max. They done so much for them and I hated to think that Max got in any trouble at all for protecting them and doing his job. I know he cant get in that much trouble since he was there at the end, but I wanted to know he was okay.

And if you know me at all, you’ll know that I’m a sucker for a happy ending, and this one of course had that. I loved that they ended up happy and healthy and together. Although the story was at times over the top and a little believable, it was still enjoyable.

Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
Shadows Never Lie (Shadow Duet Book 1) by Lark TaylorMy review:Ok, going into this knowing that there is a book 2.....And I just have to start by saying I really appreciated that they are identical twins who don't get along. So often they are BFF and twin telepathy and all that. And it does happen. But not always.I have to admit I was sucked in from the start. Especially since the first chapter was present day and then chapter two starts the back story. Just from chapter 1 I wasn't expecting their younger years to be as they were. And I really wanted to hate Dominick. But once more information about his life came to light AND how he started treating Ryan, I had a soft spot for him. Max (Ryan's twin) on the other hand, can go scratch. It will take a lot for him to redeem himself in book 2 if that even happens.I kind of saw the cliffhanger coming. I still wasn't prepared. Oh my heart just broke. And I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! Good thing book 2 comes out in 2 weeks...4 pieces of eye candy ... See MoreSee Less

Avalanche (Ricochet Ridge) by Jillian Wray My reviewI really liked these two characters and how they aren't exactly what you expected.First, yes they are step brothers. But they are 4 years apart AND Stone left when he was 18. You can extrapolate that there wasn't even a crush between these two guys until this book. Hero worship, yes. Romantic crush, nah.Stone, kind of a hot shot on the mountain because he is part of the blasting crew who set charges to trigger avalanches when no one is on the mountain. He is obviously good looking and popular, but the outside doesn't necessarily match the inside. And Hanlon, babied his whole life because he has a mild case of cerebral palsy, but he also grew into a independent college senior who has a gym body, is confident, out and proud. The quiet kid grew into a confident adult and the confident kid turned into a quiet adult. There was animosity between the step brothers for different reasons. But once they pushed past that and they started feeling things, it got interesting.Again, role reversal of the stereotypical characters. And that made it so fun.It sucked that they basically had to stay in the closet. Because of family and because of work. But we all know that doesn't last forever. And I totally understand their parents feeling the way they do. But like good parents, they found acceptance in their hearts. The CP representation was done really well. Showed that there are different levels of CP and even when it isn't overtly obvious, there's still a lot that a person has to deal with.AND I learned more about avalanches.4 pieces of eye candy ...
