Night Prince by Felice Stevens: RB, Excerpt, New Release Review and Giveaway

November 17, 2021 by Denise

From Lambda Literary Award winning author Felice Stevens comes a sexy paranormal stand-alone romance.

A vampire who’s lost everything meets a man who has nothing to lose.

For centuries, Massimo D’Alba, banished prince of the Fold, has wandered through life frozen in darkness and pain. Betrayed by his younger, power-hungry brother, he’s existed for centuries but not lived. A rain-soaked night brings smart-mouthed New Yorker, Damion Avery, to his doorstep and suddenly he’s riding spin bikes, shopping for yoga pants, eating ice cream…and falling in love.

Damion Avery can’t figure out why Prince Tall, Dark, and Incredibly Sexy wants him as his personal assistant, but he’s not going to second-guess his good luck. Even though he has to work all night and sleep during the day, the job is too good to be true. But where does Massimo sneak off to in the dead of night? Is he a spy, an assassin, or something else? And what’s with those glowing purple eyes? Damion knows he shouldn’t fall for his boss. But Damion was never one to follow the rules.

When duty calls him home, Massimo must return to save his kingdom, forcing a life-changing decision: leave Damion behind forever, or reveal his deepest, darkest secret to the man who has become his everything, who owns a part of Massimo he’d thought gone forever…his heart.

Massimo glanced up from reading the newspaper as Damion bounded down the stairs.

“Where are you off to? You look like you’re on a mission.”

“I’m going across town to Macy’s. They’re open late tonight—until nine-thirty, and I need some new clothes.” He pointed at his ripped jeans. “I only have one other pair, and I need some shirts and stuff, especially now that you want me to sit in on your video conferences with you and not remain in the background. It’s my dinner hour, so I won’t be taking time from work.”

Massimo set the paper down, frowning. “First of all, you should not worry about doing personal things during your free time. I do not own you, Damion. You work for me. Second of all, I think that is a good idea. Are you sure they will have what you need?”

Damion snorted. “They’re only the biggest store in the world. I think I’ll find something.” His blue eyes twinkled, and Massimo fought that internal war that made him want to grab Damion and kiss him, while knowing it was wrong. It was exhausting to fight this attraction, and instead of it waning as he’d hoped, it was gaining strength.

Damion snapped his fingers. “Hey. I have an idea. Why don’t you come with me? You can help me pick out stuff and tell me what looks good. I’m hopeless like that, and you have a great sense of style.”

Massimo was hesitant. “You want me to go clothes shopping? I’ve never done that before. I wouldn’t know what to do.”

Damion’s eyes bugged out, and he stood mute for a moment. “You’re kidding. You’ve never been in a department store?”

Massimo shrugged. “Why would I? I have a tailor come and make my suits and shirts. Anything else I need, Claudio orders for me. Stores are crowded with people.” He made a face. “Why would I want to go?”

“Because you can try stuff on you might not know you even want. I love impulse-buying. Please? Come with me?”

It was pointless to try and resist those big blue eyes. And that was how Massimo D’Alba, prince of the Fold and one of the most powerful vampires in the world, found himself in a dressing room in Macy’s, wearing a hot-pink T-shirt that said: Yoga is my superpower, and an indecently tight pair of gray sweat pants.

“I think not.” He exited the dressing room to show Damion, who stood in front of the three-way mirror in a tank top the color of his eyes and biker shorts.

When their eyes met, Damion’s jaw dropped, and he spun around.

Massimo shifted under his heated stare, and his cock hardened. Mortified, he took a step away, praying Damion hadn’t noticed. “I can’t believe you made me try this on.”

“Oh, loosen up. Lots of guys wear this when they exercise.” Damion cocked his head. “You look good. Really good.”

“I look as ridiculous as I feel. I’ll stick to what I have, thank you. And we came here for you, not me.”

Damion turned to his own mirror, and Massimo’s gaze fixed on his perfect ass, hugged by the second-skin material of the biker shorts. Massimo had enough trouble with the damn spin bike; did he need to be tortured by Damion wearing next to nothing while they exercised? Having a hard-on while spinning was a singularly painful experience he tried to avoid.

For an author who is a contemporary writer, this was a fun read. Delving into the world of vampires hundreds of years ago and then a time jump to today’s world. Great world building that didn’t rely on stereotypes (except the whole sun thing. ouch). They lived in secret, ensconced within their own boundaries. There were several factions and royalty ruled. They even had a spiritual figure that they respected.

Massimo, first born son and heir to the throne is banished from The Fold for a seemingly minor transgression. While everyone, including himself, thought he would die, he in fact ended up thriving. Building various business empires so that he never had to worry about money.

Damion is the complete opposite. An orphan who had a very difficult childhood with a religious foster family until he ran away, living on the streets of NYC until finally going back to school to get his GED. Where he met his best friend. Even though Damion had a few friends, got his GED, went to college, his life was still a mess. He lost a good job, lost his apartment and then lost his best friend who was moving to another country for his boyfriend’s job. Serendipity brings him to Massimo’s brownstone.

Massimo offers Damion a job as his personal assistant and a room to live in. Being that Massimo is nocturnal and does all of his work at night, having Damion there makes more sense.

They were, of course, immediately attracted to each other. But Massimo held back because, yanno, vampire, and Damion held back because that is why he lost his job- getting seduced by his boss who then turned on him.

But they settled into a fun working relationship. Damion getting Massimo to work out with him on Peleton bikes was hilarious. Massimo’s butler (also a vampire) was such a perfect side character. I actually really hope he gets his own happily ever after.

Massimo finds it harder and harder to resist Damion AND to keep his secret. But he is being called back to The Fold to oust his brother and right the wrongs that have been done. His brother was a horrible person who is destroying everyone and everything in the town.

I won’t tell you more, but they way that Massimo returned, having Damion with him, hundreds of others willing to fight with him, it made for a great story. You could feel that they were just meant for each other. They never used the words mate or soul mate or anything like that. They didn’t HAVE to tell us that they were soul mates. We could tell. It was obvious. Just their immediate connection. They always wanted to be with each other, well before it became a sexual relationship.

The author even made sure there were no loose ends for when Damion was going to return to The Fold with Massimo. Little details that make Type A me so happy.

Even if vampires aren’t really your thing, this isn’t super vampire-y. It felt more paranormal than that. But it was a good story and I would definitely read a second book.

Drew:

I shouldn’t have been surprised by his presence in such a vampire-heavy town, but a vampire serving humans was unusual to my eyes. Seeing an apex predator doing something so mundane struck me as odd. I made my way to the bar and slid onto a stool, the vinyl cracked and fraying.

“Hi there,” I murmured, my voice low. I smiled at the tall, blond bartender, whose wavy hair would have reached his shoulders if it hadn’t been tied back. He looked very much like he could have come out of a picture book about Viking times, except he wore a snug-fitting t-shirt with Blood Money’s logo emblazoned on it, and jeans that perfectly cupped his very firm ass.

“What can I—?” He ended abruptly and tilted his head to the side. His eyes narrowed as he took me in, and I ran a hand through my damp, close-cropped hair. When he spoke again, his tone was cold, closed off, and his expression was carefully neutral. “Are you—?” he shook his head. “Can I help you?”

“You work here?” I knew it was a stupid question. He was behind the bar, of course he worked there, but I couldn’t help asking. I couldn’t wrap my mind around a vampire serving humans willingly.

He nodded. “And I’m busy.” He grabbed empty glasses off the bar top and put them in a tray, then grabbed a rag and began to wipe the bar down.

“Oh, yeah, totally. I can tell.” There were no patrons asking for his attention at that moment and I fought the urge to roll my eyes.

“I’ve never seen you around here.”

I laughed a little. “Don’t worry, Tex, I’m not looking to steal your territory.”

He shook his head. “No territory to steal. It’s not like that around here.”

“Then what’s it like?” I leaned forward and slid my fangs out with a smile. I wanted him to see I meant no harm.

He dropped his voice to a hiss, leaning in close. “Put your fangs away, for fuck’s sake. Nobody needs to see that.”

Fangs Like Me by Lyssa Dering: Quick Review

March 28, 2017 by Denise

fangssynopsisLane, a newborn vampire, still feels the pain of betrayal. Two years ago, a faithless boyfriend took his life, and now, Lane’s Maker has also left him behind. The pain of separation burns strong when all Lane wants are arms to hold him and enough warm blood to satisfy his voracious appetite. At a shifter party, Lane is drawn to a hunky Alpha werewolf who tries to console him.

Parker is more than a thoughtless hookup. Since his family disowned him for finding boys just as hot as girls, all he wants is someone to love and look after. The sweet little vamp calls to his protective instincts, but he sure is jumpy. Cuddling with boys is new and delicious, but when this boy also wants him as a food source, things get complicated.

Vampires and shifters aren’t supposed to get along, and Parker’s rough dominance triggers bad memories for Lane. But Parker’s wolf wants Lane, and he knows he can give Lane what he needs. Can Lane learn to navigate his past and give the thing growing between them a chance? Or will the very real possibilities of heartache, abandonment, and even death, keep them apart?

michelle review

Shifter and vampire books are starting to become my drug of choice. I love how every author does the world building and characteristics differently but also stays within the “norm” of Paranormal. Lyssa Dering does it a tad different than I am use to with Vampires so it took a bit to get into the blood as sweat and tears.

Lane is a “vamp baby” who is still dealing with how he was changed. He was bitten and left for dead by his vamp boyfriend. Theo, his maker, turned him instead of leaving him to die. Parker is an Alpha wolf shifter who left his pack to do to his family not approving of his choice of men over females. Lane & Parker meet at a party and from there we follow them through their story.

The writing was good and the story flowed smoothly. The issues I had were that Lane was depicted as more of a child losing his parent as Theo, the maker, is never around. He wants to be loved and be part of a family but he feels he doesn’t have anyone. Parker wants everything that comes with mating but without the actually relationship. Of course there is hot steamy scenes, knotting, biting and claiming but it wasn’t in the form of a growing romance until towards the end. Lane has certain “tastes” in the bedroom whereas Parker is a lover and caretaker. It was nice to see them work around the issues.

I enjoyed the book but wished there was less aggression and more romance. I am excited to check out other books by the author.

Book reviews: Angel of Darkness and New Years Dream by Tyler May

February 2, 2015 by Morgan

Blurb for Angel of Darkness:

“Sleep, my boy, our time is coming soon.”

As a boy, Christian Bowman was obsessed with vampires and the paranormal. After a tragic event in his life, he found solace in reading and dreaming of the dark and mysterious tales.
Now twenty-one, his fantasy becomes a reality when he meets Zander―a blind vampire. Christian now has the chance to live the fantasy that up until now, he has only been able to dream about. Will his dream turn into a nightmare when he sees just how dark and dangerous a real vampire’s world can be?
Christian is in love with his Angel of Darkness. But is their love strong enough to withstand obstacles that come with loving a vampire? And more importantly, is there a happily-ever-after in a vampire’s world?
A vampire and a soul that never died; Darkness stole their past, but can his light save their future? M/M paranormal erotic romance. Not suitable for readers under 18, due to language and explicit sexual situations.

Morgan’s Review:

I want to start off by saying; I was very impressed with
this story.  I have read a lot of paranormal
stories and this has clearly become one of my favorites. Tyler May has created
a fascinating world. The attraction between Christian and Zander was explosive
and I fell in love with these two right away. The love and loyalty Zander has
for Christian is so intense. I was drawn into this story right away and
finished it in one sitting. Mystery, suspense, and even a little action,
Christian and Zander’s story will keep you on your toes and have you looking
forward to what’s next. This will be a definite reread for me and I am so
excited about the next installment. If you haven’t done so, make sure you check
out this series. Totally worth it..

Final determination is 5 pieces of eye candy.

Blurb for New Year’s Dream:
One night. One wish…..darkness disappears.
If you could have one wish, what would it be?
Christian thinks he has it all.
Billy knows what he is missing.
And Zander only wants one thing.
Will their dreams come true?
New Year’s is a time for reflection, change, and resolution….that is, if you’re human. In a vampire’s world, New Year’s is a time of birth. Once a year, vampires celebrate their existence, and it’s going to be one hell of a party.
With Christmas over, Christian prepares to celebrate with Zander for their first New Year together. Little does he know that Zander, with Billy’s help, has other plans.
The countdown has begun.
New Year’s dream is the second installment (novella) of Angel of Darkness.

18+ for language and sexual content. New Year’s Dream is the continuation of Christian and Zander’s story. It works better to have read Angel of Darkness first.
Morgan’s Review
New Year’s Dream is another fantastic addition to the
paranormal world Tyler May as created. This time we get to view things through
the eyes of Zander and Billy. We also get to hang out a little more with some
of the characters from Angel of Darkness.

New Year’s Eve is approaching and the Vampires consider this
a very special night, A Birthday for them, so to speak. It is also considered
by others to be a night that can bring out different types of powers in humans
and paranormal alike. You just have to be willing to use it. The downside is  it’s only for a short amount of time.

Be ready for a sweet read where we can revisit the
heartwarming and passionate relationship between Christian and Zander. I also
fell a little more in love with Billy. He may seem so hard on the outside but
he has a really big heart and he is starting to prove it. Wonderful little read
that will have you psyched up for the next installment.

Final determination is 5 pieces of eye candy.

Tyler May was born and raised in the great state of Michigan, and still happily resides there. She is a stay at home mom to her three beautiful children. Tyler’s passion for reading came later in life when she found a love in romance novels, more specifically the male/male genre.  After drawing inspiration from some wonderful authors and encouragement from friends and family; she penned her first full length novel: Angel of Darkness.  Tyler draws inspiration from the simple things in life and will never take that for granted. My reviewSuck by Cora Rose and EM LindseyI really wish we could do half stars because this was a solid 4 1/2 for me. And I am not one to read monster or alien books. I did read the first couple of chapters of this when the teaser was released and I couldn't wait for the whole story. It's a post pandemic world and Everest has lost his parents and is living with a very strict aunt and uncle. There are some time jumps which are done really well. From when he first lost his parents up to when he turns 18 and can move out and finally present day when he is 21 and can "do his duty". And I can't say a lot about that because I will be censored but see title and I'm sure you can figure it out.At first Everest was intrigued. And then a little freaked out. Then angry. But he still followed through with what Rathyn wanted. Which was him basically at his beck and call. They definitely developed a relationship that went far past their original agreement even though it wasn't explicitly allowed. Everest didn't really know that at first because the alien world was kept from humans for the most part. Very little was known and what was known, humans had to sign an NDA.The world building was really well done. Both on Earth and Erethar. Earth sounded so desolate after the last pandemic but Erethar sounded just beautiful. What kept that 1/2 a star from my rating? Two things. First, Everest basically abandons his best friend. Yes, he does call and see him after a while- but it is after some time. These guys were bff. Moving into an apartment together when they turned 18, hanging out together all of the time, etc. Didn't seem right. And even though Everest identified as straight at the beginning he moved right into being bi (or gay or pan or whatever just not straight) with Rathyn and didn't do any questioning of it. I know, monster alien but still. A little soul searching maybe. So yes, I thought it was a super fun read that was sexy and swoony and kept me turning the pages. Can't wait for book 2!4 1/2 pieces of eye candy ... See MoreSee Less

✨EXCERPT: LICKED by @charlienwrites releasing May 12th!#PreOrderNowmybook.to/lickitoneThis was a date. A romantic date. One that I desperately wanted to go well. So well that Alfie might even be open to kissing me. That would be wonderful. I just couldn’t get my hopes up, because if it went badly, or even if there was no kissing, I’d be devastated. I tried to think about other things as I walked into town towards Vito’s, a small Italian restaurant in the middle of town where we’d agreed to go for dinner. I’d been there before quite a few times and always enjoyed the food, although it could get a little loud and overwhelming at the weekend when it was busy, simply due to the size of the space. But no matter what I tried to turn my thoughts to, they all came stubbornly back to Alfie and how I wanted tonight to go. Eventually I gave up trying to think of anything else, and instead let myself create a list of questions or talking points, just in case we ran out of things to say. Which seemed impossible considering how much we messaged, but it was always good to be prepared. When I rounded the corner to Vito’s, I stopped dead in my tracks, my eyes not fully processing what was in front of me. Alfie was stood just outside on the cobbles in a pair of cream trousers and a pale pink shirt, his honey-blond hair clearly styled… and a bouquet of deep red roses in his arms, wrapped in paper and tied with black ribbon. He looked so gorgeous it stole my breath, but the roses… I’d never had anyone bring me flowers before. #charlienovak #mmromance #kindleunlimited The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less
