Zac’s Mulligan by Ann Lister: Quick Review

August 20, 2016 by Denise

zac's mulligansynopsis

Zac Mulligan is a former Marine now providing personal security for the infamous rock band, Black Ice. Seeing all the guys around him in committed relationships reminds him of his childhood best friend . . . the only person Zac has never managed to get out of his head or his heart.

Ben Holland is an artist. Falling deeply in love with his best friend in his teens, Ben is left alone when Zac leaves him for the military. Ben heads off to college and lives his life “out and proud” as a gay man and creates a brand name for himself with his artwork. Throughout all the years that pass, Ben never forgets his childhood friend, Zac, or the feelings they once shared.

Zac realizes a decade is too long for Ben not to have a presence in his life and finds Ben living on Cape Cod where they spent their summers as kids. Meeting each other as adults stirs up a lot of memories for both of them.

Zac is looking for a mulligan, a “do over,” with his childhood best friend. The question is: Can Ben find a way to put aside his old hurts and fully open his heart to Zac for a second time? Or maybe the past is something better left buried on the beach where it all began.

morgan review

I was really excited to get my hands on the first book in Ann’s new series and she did not let me down. The story flowed and kept my interest from start to finish. The emotions were all over with his one and I caught myself pacing my living room at one point while reading. Be prepared to laugh, tear up, and bite your nails. The characters were strong and she gives enough back story on the two MC’s to help me understand their connection that much better. I loved the story line and Ann pulls off this new book beautifully.

Zac and Ben had a long way to go to get to their HEA. There were lots of hurdles they had to cross and trust had to be rebuilt. This story has a slow build with both men getting to know each other again and that makes it all the better. When they finally do get together it’s intense and heartwarming. They never lost their love for each other even after all those years.

I love when we get to revisit with Black Ice and Ivory Tower. They are one big, amazing, crazy family and it’s so fun getting to spend time with them. I enjoyed getting to know a few more of the security guys a little better too. We get a bit of a sneak peek at a new love interest for Fizzbo and I cannot wait for the next addition to this new series. I definitely recommend this one.

Guest Post

MJ’s Tropes of the Summer

Hey Everyone!!

This is MJ O’Shea talking about one of my favorite subjects… romance novel tropes 😉 I have a few tropes that I’ll always love (best friends to lovers… probably not a shock if you’ve read my books) but some come and go and I have a few that I’m totally digging at the moment!

Rivals to lovers Oh yes. Give me the athletes who want to beat each other in the arena but fall for each other off of it. There isn’t a ton of it out there but I’m definitely feeling the Olympic spirit haha!

Secret Identity Always but especially working for me right now. Is he a spy? Is he royalty? Is he a vampire… I love that moment of discovery for the other character and I never get tired of reading, or writing it. Double points if neither main character is aware of who/what one of them is and they both find out during the course of the book.

And lately I’ve been into Secret Babies. That’s become a thing. Again, I love that moment when the character finds out he’s been a father all this time and he didn’t know it. It’s satisfying to see the emotion that he goes through.

Marriage of Inconvenience actually doesn’t have any of these things…but I do love a good fake relationship to love story too. The building chemistry, the is he or isn’t he? I had a ton of fun writing it.

Here’s a tiny bit from that book! Kerry the publicist slash new fake fiancé is about to make his first formal show…

* * * *

One thing he didn’t expect was… this. He was in his room at Jericho’s house, with Tara and Abby hovering nearby examining him, acting as stylists. They’d brought over a suit earlier, one that had been painstakingly tailored to play up every one of his best assets and probably cost more than a couple months of his rent. The suit was dark charcoal gray with tiny ecks of an almost shimmery pale gray and the shirt underneath was a vibrant fuchsia that they’d chosen because of how it would show off his pale skin and dark hair.
“You look gorgeous, babe,” Tara said. “Everyone’s going to drool.”
“What’s Jericho wearing?” he asked.
“Black and white with a pocket square to match your shirt.”
“Seriously?”
Tara grinned. “Yes. We want to present a cohesive team with you two. It’ll be romantic.”
“You don’t think it’s corny?” Kerry thought it was corny.
“No. You two will be perfect together.”
Kerry wasn’t so sure about that. They were pretty much toxic together, no matter what the public seemed to see in carefully set up pictures. They could pull it off one snap at a time, but how the hell were they going to act like a loving, comfortable, engaged couple live, on video, for the entire length of the red carpet?
“You ready?” Jericho asked from the door.
Kerry nearly swallowed his tongue. Jericho always looked hot, annoyingly so, but with a suit and his hair pulled back so perfectly, he looked like a god. Kerry hated that he was so attracted to him. At least in his moments of weakness.
“I’m ready.”
As ready as I’m going to be.

* * * *

That’s all!! Thank you for letting me stop by! I’ll leave my social media links below  I’m always up for a chat.

xoxo

I really enjoyed this second chance romance. Malcolm was beautiful. He was so serious and kind of stiff. Hans was the perfect counterpart to him. He loosened him up a little, but also accepted him and his introverted ways. Malcolm had such a challenge to pull himself out of his grief. Hans was so great with Malcolm. I really like how understanding and accepting Hans was towards Malcolm’s feeling. He dealt with Malcolm insecurities very well. These were very real characters. The story was told very realistically. I felt for these characters.

Christa-tomlinson-jayaheer2016-Finalimagesynopsis

Chance “The Chancellor” Gerhardt is a mainstay for Frontier Professional Wrestling. He’s won multiple championships and has the respect of the locker room. But after ten years at the top, Chance is looking for a new challenge. The one he gets, mentoring FPW’s young rookie, is both unexpected and unwanted.

Devin Jacobs is a hot new talent signed by Frontier Professional Wrestling. He’s always been a fan of The Chancellor, and not just because of the older man’s skill in the ring. He has it bad for the steely eyed veteran wrestler. Unfortunately for Devin, The Chancellor isn’t looking to get involved with anyone. Or is he? During long nights traveling and working together, Devin catches more than one secretly admiring glance from The Chancellor…

Devin is determined to earn victories and championships in the ring. But he’d also love the opportunity to win Chance’s heart. Can the two of them navigate their way through the hyper masculinity and backstage politics of professional wrestling to the most important victory of all? Or will their shot at love be defeated 1-2-3?

Guest Post

Hello everyone! My name is Christa Tomlinson. And my latest release, Showing Him the Ropes is now available. Showing Him the Ropes is the story of two men, Chance and Devin, who find love in the chaotic and hyper masculine world of professional wrestling. Today, I’d like to share with you all an excerpt from their story.

Devin was back on the road with Chance. The start of the loop had gone well tonight, with a successful live TV recording. It had been a long day; flying into Philadelphia, working out, practicing in the ring to get adjusted to FPW’s style, then watching and studying the two-hour show from backstage. But the day was nearly over. He just had to get through this long drive to Harrisburg.

He looked at the clock then at the speedometer. At the rate Chance was driving, they had about another forty-five minutes before they reached the hotel. Chance apparently was happy to listen to music the entire drive. Devin wasn’t. He reached forward and turned the radio down.

“You and Pollux mesh well in the ring. You guys had my favorite match tonight.”

Chance’s eyes flicked to the stereo then to him. He looked back at the road before he answered. “Thanks, he’s a good hand to work with.” He started to reach for the radio to turn it back up, but Devin spoke again.

“Although I have to say, probably my favorite match of all time was you versus Mike Abbot. That feud was amazing, and the final match you had was brutal. I remember at the end, Abbot caught you with an enzinguri kick. He busted you open, and it was obvious your bell was rung from the way you stumbled back and weaved on your feet.”

Devin thought back to that match. It wasn’t hard to do. He’d only watched it about twenty times. Chance had looked legitimately dazed. But he’d forcefully shaken it off and finished the match. With blood streaming down his face, he’d grabbed Abbot and carried out his finisher. Once he’d tapped, Chance had thrown him to the side, grabbed the top rope and roared right into the camera. It was completely unexpected and out of character for The Chancellor, who was usually calm and smug in his acceptance of victory. That roar was usually the moment when Devin… He coughed and cut off that train of thought.

“But you kept going, blood dripping down your face onto your chest, and finished the match. It really put a stamp on the brutality of the feud.”

“Thanks. It took seven staples to close up that gash. I think I had a headache for a week straight.”

“But you didn’t miss any shows.”

“You know better than that,” Chance said in a dry voice.Showing Him The Ropes Square

Devin smiled because he did know. In their business, everyone worked with minor injuries. Sometimes they worked with major ones until there was a good place in the script to write them off. Or in the case of broke indie wrestlers, money to pay for the surgery. It was a fact of wrestlers’ life. “True. What’s the most hurt you’ve ever worked?”

“A partially torn meniscus would probably be the worst. But the most aggravating was breaking two fingers on my right hand. They were taped pretty good, but every time I had to grab somebody it hurt.”

Devin winced. “That was about five years ago. I remember seeing your hand taped up.”

“You sure know a lot about me.”

“You were my favorite when I was watching in high school,” he said with a slightly embarrassed shrug. “I know you were a history teacher wrestling in the indies on the weekends when Mr. Mercer found you. He convinced you to go full time for his new company and within a year you were the top heel for FPW. You’re from Memphis, but over the years you’ve reined in your Southern accent on your promos. You’ve been the tag team champion twice. The last reign ended when you turned on your partner. You’ve held the Heavyweight Championship six times. Your last run with it was two years ago until you lost to Garret, which gave him his first title win.” He paused to look at Chance out of the corner of his eye. “What can I say? I was a proud Chancellor fan boy.”

“Is that right?”

“Yep. I had your t-shirt and everything.”

“You said were. I’m not your favorite anymore?”

As soon as the words were out of his mouth, Chance immediately wished he could call them back. It’d be alright if they’d come out casually, like he was joking. But they hadn’t. His voice was low and husky, and in the quiet privacy of the dark car, it sounded like he was flirting. Which he was. And he didn’t know why he kept doing it.

After a moment, Devin responded, his voice as low as Chance’s had been. “Maybe you still are. I like watching you now just as much as I did then.”

That’s my boys! As you can see, Devin isn’t shy about his attraction to Chance. And although Chance doesn’t want to admit it, he feels something for Devin as well. I had fun writing these two guys. Devin was such a cutie with his unashamedly over the top flirting and poor beleaguered Chance really did try to resist him. I hope you’ll check out the rest of their story to see how it all plays out between them.

Thanks for reading!

I do love Christa’s writing. This was such a fun read. You don’t have to be familiar with wresting to enjoy this book. Christa provides us with a section containing terms and thorough explanations to keep you from getting confused. There is so much emotion in this first book and she tells an amazing story. As I sit reading, I keep catching myself with these huge grins stretching my face and I swear I look like a mental patient. The massive grins just keep coming. The banter between Devin and Chance is hilarious.

Deep down Chance is a nice guy but can be rough around the edges and a real ass sometimes just like his on screen character. He never wanted anything to do with relationships. Seeing him slowly fall in love with Devin made my heart melt. Devin is such a fun, happy and outgoing person. It doesn’t take him long to grow on Chance. The attraction between them from the first moment is intense and when they finally give in to each other it’s damn hot as hell. Be prepared to hose yourself down or catch fire, lol. Christa knows how to write an amazing sex scene.

I also enjoyed getting to know some of the other wrestlers in FPW. They seemed like a big family with all the drama that goes with it. Tre’ really grew on me and I can’t wait to see how his story unfolds.

I did NOT want this to end. What a fantastic start to what I’m sure is going to be an awesome series. I still have unanswered questions and I cannot wait for the next release. Definitely a reread for me.

House of the Rising Son by Trevann Rogers: Book Blast, Excerpt and Giveaway

August 16, 2016 by Denise

25808967synopsis

Sex. Rebellion. Rock and roll.

Cheyenne is a half-human incubus whose star is on the rise in the Unakite City rock scene. His father, the leader of the supernatural races, would prefer he keep a “low profile”, but screw that. Cheyenne has as much music in his veins as royal incubi blood.

Alexander’s future is all set—finish law school, join the family firm, and marry someone who’d be good for business. Not that he has a say in any of it. He’s barely met the woman his father expects him to marry.

As Cheyenne’s musical career takes off, his carefully constructed life begins to unravel, exacerbated by an ex-lover who can’t let go, a crotchety barkeeper with a dirty mind and a pure heart, a drag queen who moonlights as a nanny, and Alexander—who’s not sure if he’s falling for the incubus or the rocker.

Cheyenne denies who he is, while Alexander hides what he wants. Together, they learn that getting what they truly want means being who they truly are.

excerpt

Cheyenne reached the corner of 77th Street and looked up at Alexander’s building. He had a lobby and an elevator ride to figure out what to say. He didn’t let many people into his life, but the big guy had wandered in and taken a seat, and Cheyenne wasn’t going to let him go like this. He would find a way to help Alexander make sense of his life and be happy again.

When he let himself into the apartment, he found Alexander with a beer in hand, stretched out on the sofa, the darkness broken by the light of the television. Cheyenne retrieved a bottle from the refrigerator and sat in a chair next to him.

“Your door was open.”

Alexander shrugged. “Pretty sure I could handle an intruder.” He pointed at his chest. “Were-tiger.”

“Good point.” He felt Alexander’s eyes on him. “Who’s winning? And please tell me that was the right question to ask. I’m not much of a sports guy.” And spectacularly bad at small talk.

“It wasn’t a wrong one. The Raiders. And it’s DVR’d. They won.”housersbanner

Cheyenne nodded as if he had some idea what he was talking about. They sat in silence. When the game was over, Alexander turned on a lamp and powered off the TV. “Why are you here, Chey?”

“To make sure you’re all right. You didn’t seem to be when you left.”
Alexander swung his feet around to the floor. “No, I’m not all right. I just realized that my life is shit. Wait, no, I suspected it before. But at least getting married and being a lawyer, that life I understood. This life? I don’t have a clue.”

“Everybody’s life is shit, Zander. Okay, maybe not everybody’s. But everybody I know. Everybody who’s trying to live the life they want instead of what their parents, or society, or whoever, thinks it should be.”

“You’re telling me I’m in good company? Gee, thanks.”

Cheyenne scooted to the edge of the chair. “Look, if you’d been happy with your father’s plans, would you have been at the club night after night with me?”

Alexander looked away and raked his fingers through his hair.

“You knew there was something missing. You were out there searching for it.” At Alexander’s scowl, he continued, “Maybe you would have found it with a woman if you’d kept looking. But you didn’t, and your world shattered.”

“Think you’re all that? How I’m feeling, it isn’t about you.”

“The fuck it isn’t…”

deanna review

I really enjoyed this book. The premise of the book is a little unrealistic, but come on people; its fiction! The story really worked for me. Maybe it was because I just came off a really bad read, but the characters just clicked for me. I stayed up super late in a blanket tent so I didn’t wake my husband up reading. Totally worth it.

Timothy is a struggling grad student. He is quickly running out of funds and his two part time jobs are barely supplying rent money. He first tried nude modeling for the art department on campus and when that doesn’t work out he attempts stripping. That was when his roommate suggested he become an escort.

Figuring he doesn’t have anything to lose he makes an online profile and his career as an escort is born. At first it isn’t so bad, lonely men who just want to cuddle and random blow jobs until Timothy gets a call to set up an appointment for a mystery gentleman.

Timothy’s mystery man ends up being a powerful politician who for the sake of his career needs to remain anonymous. Timothy must wear a blind fold when they are together but he soon realizes who is in his bed. Once he convinces the man that he isn’t going to reveal his secret the two begin connecting on a deeper level.

One night turns into two, two night turn into a month and Timothy is quickly falling for his man. The man himself is falling for Timothy, but once someone realizes his secret Timothy is in danger. Kidnapped off the street, Timothy is held against his will. Does his man have enough power to save him? Is he willing to put himself for Timothy?

Sigh. This is like Pretty Woman meets the Democratic National Convention. I loved Timothy. He did what he had to do to continue on with his education without forgetting who he was and what he stood for. Yes he was an escort, but he never did anything that made him uncomfortable.

Timothy’s kidnapping upped the angst factor in the book but not so much it was uncomfortable or overdone. I like that there wasn’t a huge blow up over Timothy’s profession, it would have made the book too angsty. In my opinion it was perfect as is.

This was a first read for me of Michael Murphy and I was really impressed.

Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
Whit by Cora RoseNew release and review!Whit by Cora Rose was my first book by her and I believe her first book. And I was really impressed. It's not easy to find a first book that I don't nit pick. But I really enjoyed it and she has been quite the prolific writer since.Caleb is the same story told from Whit's point of view. (Whit was Caleb's point of view)This is a good young adult (21ish) romance, opposites attract, gay for you, rich boy/poor boy...all the tropes. It was fun to read the story from Whit's POV. How he was really feeling about Caleb, about meeting family, about dealing with his own family, etc. And to hear how dirty his mind really was since he's so buttoned up (figuratively) to the world.I loved seeing Caleb's family just immediately accept him as part of the family. Jokes, hugs and all.If you enjoyed Whit, you'll enjoy Caleb. Same story, different perspectives.Do I need all of her books to have this companion piece? Nah. But I'm glad I revisited these guys.4 Pieces of Eye Candy ... See MoreSee Less

My secrets and sharp edges are built to keep people out.But when he wraps his warm body around mine—needy and trusting—something in me cracks open and unfurls. And the deeper Caleb sinks into my chest, the more I know I should push him away before he sees too much. Before it’s too late. Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
✨EXCERPT: CALEB by @coraroseauthor releasing April 24th! #PreOrderNowbooks2read.com/u/4En91A I shake my head, even though it is. I feel like my heart is being ripped from my body. The choice I have to make. Is it even a choice? “I…I overreacted. I’m…I’ll be fine,” I tell him, clutching at his hand and turning it to kiss that rough palm. Because I have to be fine with whatever I choose. And I don’t know if I can choose a future with him. Not after everything I’ve been through. My parents owe me for what they put me through. I’ve earned it with my blood and tears. Can I give it all up? For him? Caleb’s thumbs rub over my cheeks. “Okay.” He doesn’t sound convinced. Not that I expect him to. I’m a liar in the worst way. Selfish, thoughtless. He will never forgive me once this is over. My eyes water, and Caleb’s face crumples as he pulls me into his chest and holds me. I should never have let him be my roommate. I should have let him go about his life, never knowing me. It would have been simpler, better. But I was too greedy. Wanted him too much. And now look what I’ve done. I’m set to ruin him. I need to pull away before I do more damage. I need to end this. Soon, I tell myself. Just one more day. Let me have one more day.#mmromance #corarose The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less

Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
✨TEASER: LICKED by @charlienwrites releasing May 12th!#PreOrderNowmybook.to/lickitoneWhy you need to #ONECLICK this book…🍦Very Nerdy Meet Cute 🍦Low Angst🍦Slow Burn🍦Lingerie🍦First Times🍦Blowjobs in Beach Huts🍦Supportive & Nosy Friends🍦Sweetness & Spice🍦“Let Me Help You” 🍦MM RomanceLick It Like A Good BoyIt’s not often you meet gorgeous gothic men at wargaming tournaments. So, of course I tripped over my tongue instead of asking for his number. And despite my friends’ numerous offers to help find him online, we’re too busy opening Lick It!, our new ice cream shop, to spare time for my non-existent love life. But when Jonathan walks through the door on a sunny Friday afternoon, I can’t help but feel like it’s fate. He’s shy, sweet, and we immediately click. Jonathan doesn’t have much experience with relationships, so I’m determined to give him the attention he deserves, even if it means I’m pulled in two directions. With summer heating up and the shop getting hectic, spending time together is getting harder and harder. I don’t know how to balance the long hours and being a good boyfriend, but I know I have to figure it out. Because meeting Jonathan is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. ✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up to review this awesome release: bit.ly/lickedsignup#charlienovak #mmromance #kindleunlimited The Author Agency ...
