Hi, I’m Michael Gouda and I was born in London, England at the start of WW2.

In my mid thirties after a disgracefully enjoyable time in the gay pubs and clubs of London I decided to take life more seriously, went to University, obtained a respectable degree and took up teaching in the Worcestershire town of Evesham.

I took early retirement to a limestone cottage in the Cotswold hills where It lived with a series of neurotic collie dogs, a domineering cat and a determination to write. Since then I have written over one hundred and fifty short stories and published longer works with Dreamspinner Press and M.L.R. Press.

I like to introduce incidents from my own deplorable past into my stories of crime and misadventure. Being a romantic at heart though I never allow a tragic ending, however downbeat may be the indications in between.

In ‘To the Ends of the Earth’ I wanted to write a story about quite a few subjects, betrayal was actually the one that as it were rose to the surface, though of course it isn’t the real one.

I intended to write a mystery. Of course the narrator himself is a bit of a mystery for in fact we never know his real name. Not that that hasn’t been done before, notably in Daphne du Maurier’s, ‘Rebecca’.

What I had to do in ‘To the Ends of the Earth’ was to try to head the reader’s attention away from the real killer and I hoped that by maintaining contact and seeing the relationship purely from Johnny, the narrator’s point of view, the actual denouement would be something of a surprise. The fact that he has managed to take a photo of the terrorist which is published with his own name as the byline, means that he may well be on a list, though there are plenty of other suspects.

I admit that Johnny’s actual escape from death at the denouement was a little fortuitous but I thought that, in describing Johnny’s final surroundings, I had made them sufficiently sordid for the accident to be believable, especially as the villain’s madness had resulted in such erratic movements.

Excerpt: The terrorist attack.

Rail to London, Paddington Station, underground to Westminster. I emerged into the Metropolis with its smells of diesel exhaust, a flavor of curry (was it?) and hordes of people going about their business, either politely or pushing past without a ‘Sorry’ or ‘excuse me’. It wouldn’t happen in Bristol I tell you, well. Probably not.

I saw the Thames flowing smoothly if slightly murkily under Westminster Bridge (I wonder what Willy Wordsworth would think!) and was just about to turn into the road which leads past Old Palace Yard and the entry into the Mother of Parliaments, as we rather boastfully call it, when there was a disturbance behind me.

I turned and saw an old looking black taxi though it didn’t have a ‘For Hire’ sign on show careering along the pavement towards me. There were screams as it hit and knocked down several passers by. From the direction it was taking it was going to miss me by a country mile so instinctively I felt for and produced my Smart phone. Suddenly it started swerving on and off the pavement, alternately knocking people down and then missing others. I sent up a private prayer and punched in 999 shouting at the woman who answered, ‘Ambulance and Police, Westminster Bridge, Urgent’. I rang off and then switched to movies, following the taxi on its devastating path but ready to jump into any available refuge if it looked as if it was heading my way – I’m no hero!

I filmed it as a woman was tossed into the air, her pram flattened. The taxi carried along the pavement for perhaps twenty yards, knocking down a young man and a couple of boys. It then returned to the road and tried to speed off but it crashed into a building and stopped, the front left side crushed. I could hear the driver vainly trying to restart the engine. Then he got out, glanced around, shouted something and raced off into the crowds of people who were, either trying to flee or, driven by curiosity, coming to see what had happened.

I watched the scene of carnage with horror, but took a few shots of the scene. I know this sounds insensitive if not disgraceful, but the journalist in me took over and anyway I didn’t know what to do to help.

Then a thin man with gray hair stepped up with what looked like a measure of confidence. “I’m a doctor,” he said, going from one to the other on the pavement.

He looked at me and indicated the young man nearest to me. Blood was gushing from a wound in his leg. “You seem to be fairly compos mentis, hold this guy’s leg just here and press hard, until the blood stops. Then just keep hold. Has anyone phoned for an ambulance?”

“I have and the police.”

“Good man.” He was attending to the first woman who had been hit and was now lying flat on her back. I could see that he was pressing on her chest with both hands, one on top of each other.

Gradually the blood from the guy whose leg I was pressing, right up near the groin, lessened and then stopped. I could feel his penis with the back of my hand.

“Sorry about this,” I said.

He smiled weakly. “No worries. In other circumstances, I’d enjoy it.” He sounded Australian.

“The paramedics will be with you soon.”

“What’s your name?”

I told him. “I’m a reporter on the Bristol Gazette. Do you want your name in print? I’ll write it up as soon as they’ve  got you into an ambulance. Front page news.” I had an idea that I had to keep him talking. He was looking pale and drawn.

“Yeah. I’m just over from Sidney for a holiday, Europe and here – and now this!”

“You’ll be out of hospital before you know it. And if ever you’re down in Bristol make sure you look me up.”

More ambulances arrived and a paramedic took over my charge. “Thanks, cobbler,” he said. Do they really say that?

One of the boys was crying, his leg bent at an unnatural angle. ‘Broken,’ I thought but unless some other injury, would be okay, though in pain.

I shuddered at the thought of the pram and its crushed contents.

As I  did so, I heard sirens, Police cars arrived, blue lights flashing.

I didn’t seem to be able to do anything more constructive so I took some more shots and then phoned a not very coherent account back to the paper, mentioning the doctor, the Australian guy, how many wounded I could see, the crushed pram. They would sort it out.

A Sergeant had a few words with the doctor who pointed in my direction.

He came over, “ I understand you called the ambulance?” He took details and I told him that I was actually a reporter and had taken a movie of practically the whole incident, including the picture of the driver who had fled the scene. “There’s actually a shot of him turning back to look. I think I’ve got his face.”

He seemed pleased and asked if he could have my phone. Now I guard that with my life, so I said, “Better than that, I’ll phone the whole lot to your station,” and when he looked a bit doubtful, I added, “It’ll be much quicker. They’ll have everything immediately.”

Prescription For Love by Aimee Nicole Walker: Blog Tour, Excerpt, New Release Review and Giveaway

June 3, 2019 by Denise

What should’ve been an ordinary emergency call turned out to be something extraordinary.

Wanting to distance himself from his toxic parents, Trent Love moved to the quaint town of Blissville to begin a new life. What he finds is blazing chemistry with a hunky fireman who breathes new life into him.

Fearing they’re too different, Tucker attempts to extinguish the spark between them before it can ignite. How could a simple man like him compete with Trent’s life of wealth and privilege? Knowing you shouldn’t want something doesn’t make it go away, and Tucker’s desire for Trent continues to smolder.

Unwilling to accept their relationship is dead on arrival, Trent puts his resuscitation skills to good use. All he wants is a chance to prove he values Tucker’s wealth of character over meaningless material things. What do you get when you mix fire and oxygen: a five-alarm fire or a prescription for love?

Trent’s commitment to freeing himself from poisonous ties kindles a chain of events that have devastating consequences for both men. Is a relationship forged in fire strong enough to overcome these obstacles or is their love doomed to be just another bitter pill to swallow?

Prescription for love is a small-town, opposites-attract romance. It is the seventh book in the Road to Blissville series but reads like a standalone book. It contains sexually explicit material intended for adults 18 and older.

“There’s no way I can watch you squat in those shorts and not get a hard-on.” Trent had been nothing but honest with me, so I gave it right back to him. “We’ll work on our upper body today.”

Even with Trent looking deliciously sweaty, I was able to find my zone and work my shoulders, arms, back, and core abdominal muscles. Lifting weights was my version of yoga. I found my Zen and the endorphins pumping through my body would improve my mood and motivate me to keep moving throughout the day. Only when we returned to the locker room did I realize those mood-lifting hormones also amped up my libido.

“Did you want to shower here before we go to breakfast or wait until I drop you off at home?”

Trent looked over his shoulder at the shower room, which had both an open shower area and private stalls for those preferring privacy. We could so easily fit inside one of those stalls and—

“We better wait,” he said, wiping his body down to remove the sweat glistening on his skin. Damn, I wanted to lick him. A little bit of sweat didn’t turn me off at all, but he might think it was gross.

“Yeah, I want to lick you all over too,” Trent said, correctly reading the expression on my face. “And I will…someday.”

“Tease,” I groused.

Book 7 in the series, but easily a stand alone. We only get brief glimpses of previous characters.

Trent and Tucker had an almost thing in a previous book that ended badly. Badly because Trent tried too hard to impress Tucker and it just made Tucker feel inferior. Then Trent is off to his Doctors without Borders stint leaving everything up in the air.

Then Trent comes back and with a little meddling from Grammie (oh how I love Grammie and aspire to be her), Trent and Tucker get back on the same page.

And honestly, that is about it. There is very little drama- save for Trent’s parents toward the end and one other incident, but really, it was just a sweet romance.

Oh, and it was seriously hot. These two burn the sheets together! Wow. That hotness definitely offset the super cuteness of a lot of this story. Sorry, I will just never ever be a fan of cutesy nicknames for each other. That is a high school first love kind of thing.

But I digress! Grammie and the cats Boris and Natasha add some fun to the story which was a big plus. I definitely wish we could have more Grammie. Maybe Tucker is hiding a brother? I kid, I kid.

Definitely a fun beach/pool read but be ready to fan yourself during some seriously hot scenes.

Dreamspinner Press Paperback

Rowan McAllister is an unapologetically romantic jack-of-all-trades and a sucker for good food, good cocktails, rich fibers, a great beat, and anything else that indulges the senses. In addition to a continuing love affair with words, she likes to play with textiles, metal, wood, stone, and whatever other interesting scraps of life she can get her hands on. She lives in the woods on the very edge of suburbia—where civilization drops off and nature takes over—sharing her home with her patient, loving, and grounded husband, her three rescues, and a whole lot of books, booze, and fabric. Her chosen family is made up of a madcap collection of people as diverse as her interests, all of whom act as her muses in so many ways, and she would be lost without them. Whether her stories have a historical, fantasy, or contemporary setting, they always feature characters who still believe in true love, happy endings, and the oft-underappreciated value of sarcasm.

Cute story, low angst, plus a kid…

Max comes home to Sweetwater, WV (if that doesn’t give you a clue as to the cuteness level) and immediately gets pulled over by his best friend’s older brother. But from there they form a friendship, which Max tests with a kiss. Cue perceived straight boy introspection, worry about job (big manly men cops) and his daughter.

But they decide to forge forward slowly. Tyler because not only is this dating a guy thing new, he hasn’t dated in years. And Max, the proverbial bad boy tattoo artist who doesn’t commit. Well, I think he is supposed to be like that but doesn’t put up much of a fight when he ends up spending tons of time with both Tyler and his daughter.

The writing is a bit stuttery for me. (Yes, making up words again). Although I know this author has a few books under her belt, the writing just isn’t smooth. It was a decent story though. It kind of reminded me of a traditional Harlequin romance. Formulaic, sweet, some sexy scenes, the big drama to bring them closer, the misunderstanding, etc, etc.

There were a few things left hanging, some unresolved tiny plot points. I don’t want to say what they are because you might not even notice.

I’ll call this a good beach read. Easy to pick up and put down, you won’t get lost in the story, but you’ll still be entertained.

3 pieces of eye candy

A tattoo artist and a single dad/cop…. Nuff said.

Max (the tattoo artist) is back in his hometown after his mother suffers a stroke and he wants to be closer to home. I like how close he is with his family, his mom especially. Upon entering town, he gets pulled over by his old friend’s brother, Tyler.

Tyler is the cop (duh) and single dad. Should’ve been swooning my socks off, but his back and forth kind of wore on me. I get with his occupation and him being a single parent, that coming out and even accepting oneself would be a tricky log to hop over… I didn’t begrudge him that, but he didn’t feel confused about it to me, it was just yes I am, no I’m not, but I am, and let’s not bring it up again.

But, I liked these two together and their friendly banter and easy conversation, even from the very beginning was cute and felt real. I’ve never read this author before, but sometimes dialogue gets a little cringy just for filling space I fell like, and I didn’t get any of that from this story… It was low angst and slow moving, … I’m not emotionally confident enough to handle a bunch of drama in my happily ever afters.

I loved Max’s relationship with Juniper, I’m always a sucker for kids in these stories, because I too was a single mom, once upon a time and finding a guy to step in and be great with your kids is tricky and it doesn’t always work, but when a Tyler finds himself in a situation and Max moves in to help him out, I couldn’t help but fall in love with all three of them.

The only thing that really bothered me was Tyler’s view of his sexuality and the back and forth. I hoped he would seem more sure and it wasn’t just a convenience thing, because even though I could tell that they had genuine feelings for each other… and they become this happy family in the end, they didn’t even say I love you…. I kept waiting on it, and it never happened, so it felt unfinished to me. I dunno, maybe I’m being too picky.

Overall, it was a sweet read and cute for anyone like myself who enjoys hot dads, cops or tattoo artists.

Prophesy: Book II: The Bringer of Wrath (The King and Alpha Series 2) by A.E. Via: Blog Tour, New Release Review and HUGE Giveaway

May 25, 2019 by Denise

Shifter and Vampire True Mates story.

Alek’s older brother, Justice—the Alpha Zenith—was the first shifter to mate with a vampire in many generations, and it was believed the rare, fated pairing would stop at him. But, it hadn’t. Aleksei ‘Alek’ Volkov was second beta, next in succession to the most powerful shifter in the world. He was proud of his title and he took his duties seriously. It was all he had. Until his true mate literally showed up on his doorstep.

While his brother—the overachiever—excelled at having a vampire as a mate, Alek wasn’t that optimistic he would. He wasn’t averse to love, and he’d often thought of how different his life could’ve turned out if he’d ever experienced the emotion. His life was a mess and he’d worn a mask of stability for a majority of that time, only showing his siblings and pack what they needed to see—a strong Volkov alpha. Not the damaged man he was, with a tortured soul and a rogue wolf.

Alek dropped his heavy head in his hands. Now, for some reason, I’ve been granted a true vampire mate. And not just any vampire. The intimidating Belleron Liatos. Lord High to the King and the leader of his army.

Belleron ‘Bell’ Liatos had come to the states for one reason—his best friend and Vampire King, Chadwick Bentley. He certainly didn’t come to be pounced on by a wolf that could act independently of its master. Not only was his destined cherished a complicated and confused man; but he was also unaware of the powerful presence that lurked in the shadows of his soul. Bell didn’t know he’d be the key to unlocking an exceptional triad that would play a critical role in fulfilling the prophesy.

This story DOES NOT contain or even mention MPREG.
No multiple pairings. No cliffhangers. Ends with a very HFN.

Warning: This book is M/M paranormal: If you DO NOT like alpha men shifting into large wolves, or vampires feeding from their destined beloveds, than this may not be the novel for you.

Length: 87,000 words approx.

I’m not normally the biggest fan of paranormal/shifters/vampires. I mean, I like them usually, but it isn’t the first book I reach for. UNLESS it is by one of my top ten authors. Then gimme!

You absolutely have to read book 1. Do not even attempt to read this without that knowledge.

There is a lot that goes on in this book. A LOT. One of the big goings on is with Alek- the shifter of focus in this story. Honestly, I get it but I was like whaaaa? for a while. Maybe because I don’t read a lot of these types of books. Definitely interesting though.

Belleron (Bell) is his love interest. No surprise there as Alek quite unceremoniously and without warning bit Bell mere moments after seeing him. Even though Bell accepts him as his mate, there is a lot of trust issues there to unpack.

But first! Drama! A rogue coven of vampires in England are trying to take over so as to eventually oust the Vampire King Chadwick Bentley. Who is also Bell’s best friend. Oh and Bell is Wick’s number two man. And Alek is Justice’s number two. And Justice is with Wick. Vampires and shifters! A vampire that also shifts! Oh what a tangled web. This is why you need to read book 1.

While there is a lot going on in the book, there is also a lot of Bell and Alek getting to know and love each other. Even simple things like going fishing for the day or out to the symphony and dinner. Even though it was a nice break from all of the drama, I feel like the Big Bad (Buffy the Vampire Slayer™) was dealt with too cleanly with little pay off.

I was definitely sucked right into this world. When book three comes out, this book will need to be reread because there is that much in there.

Shortly, after the cock cage incident, Dad sat me down to have The Talk. I knew by then that I liked dick. At first, I thought maybe it was because I was around men all the time and hardly ever any women, but one day I pulled up cameras from the women’s locker room just to see. Yeah, even the more masculine looking females did nothing for me. I got off my dad’s laptop quickly before he caught me and went back to my room to look at the gay porn I had smuggled from the sex shop. So, my dad sits me down and I’m worried. Even as isolated as we were on the compound, I had access to the outside world. I knew how homosexuality was viewed. Yes, there were changes being made and it was more accepted now, but I still worried.

I was sitting at the kitchen table when Dad came in with a dildo in one hand and a weird looking toy in the other one. It looked scary from afar. He put them down on the table along with a condom and a bottle of lube before he sat down. I was already blushing and ready to make a dash back to my room, but he pinned me with that look he got when he was dead serious and started his explanation. He showed me how to put a condom on, which I rolled my eyes at because duh. That was proceeded with a long talk on all STDs, how you can catch them in non-sexual ways, symptoms, and pictures. He pulled up pictures on his laptop. I was mortified, but damn if I was going to make sure I used condoms no matter what.

He then picked up the item that I had been avoiding looking at. It was multicolored and just weird looking. It turned out to be a big silicon asshole more or less. It was weird. Later, I found out why it looked so weird, but that’s just not something I want to think about. Although, I did end up buying a few dildos from the fantasy dildo company it was from when I got older. But back to my horrifying sex talk with my dad. He opened the lube and briefly went over the best kinds of lube to use and when. At this point, it hadn’t occurred to me how my dad knew all this stuff. He was my dad. He knew everything as far as I was concerned. He then showed me how, if I were to have sex with another man, how to prepare them or myself for it using the silicon asshole of course. He explained things like the prostate and other key erogenous zones of the male genitalia. By the end, I knew I was scarlet and dying of embarrassment. If my dad was embarrassed in anyway, he didn’t show it. He was very clinical about it. He used his instructor voice and could have been going over the parts of a P-90, he was so unphased.

He never once said anything about women. The next day, I went to his office and asked him, “How did you know?”

He quirked an eyebrow at me and said, “Yoshi, do you really think Mr. Th (that was his assistant) got you stuff from the adult store in town without my permission?”

I turned beet red and stuttered, “No, sir.” I thought I was in huge trouble and kept my eyes on my feet.

My dad pulled me into his arms and hugged me tight, surprising me. “I’m not mad. I’m glad that you went to him rather than try to sneak off on your own or do something irresponsible. I figured you weren’t ready to talk to me about those kinds of things and that’s okay. Just know that I’m always here if you need me and I’ll never judge you.” I nodded and hugged him tight, not realizing that I had started crying. I hadn’t really thought how much I was worried about it until I felt the relief his words brought me.

“I love you, Dad.” The words came out more of a whisper than I intended.

He pushed me to arm’s length, so he could see me and wiped my eyes. “I love you too, Son. Now, go out to the range. You have a test tomorrow.” I nodded and headed to the door. I had my hand on the knob when he spoke again. “Just so you know, I’m gay too.”

I turned my head in shock. The surprise evident on my face, my eyes wide. He furrowed his brows at me. “What? Did you not think I had a love life, too?”

I tried to pick my jaw up off the ground to answer. “No, Dad. Honestly, I never thought about you having a relationship much less sex.”

Dad burst out laughing then. “Well, I do.”

I stuck my fingers in my ears and started singing, “Lalalalala. I don’t want to know, Dad.”

My dad sobered then and cleared his throat. “Do you think if I found someone I really liked that you’d be okay if I brought him round?”

I took my fingers out of my ears and went back and threw my arms around him again and squeezed tight and then let go. “Yeah, Dad.” Before things could get any more awkward, I dashed out the door and closed it behind me. I hissed traitor as I passed Mr. Th’s desk and went out to the range.

Shadows Never Lie (Shadow Duet Book 1) by Lark TaylorMy review:Ok, going into this knowing that there is a book 2.....And I just have to start by saying I really appreciated that they are identical twins who don't get along. So often they are BFF and twin telepathy and all that. And it does happen. But not always.I have to admit I was sucked in from the start. Especially since the first chapter was present day and then chapter two starts the back story. Just from chapter 1 I wasn't expecting their younger years to be as they were. And I really wanted to hate Dominick. But once more information about his life came to light AND how he started treating Ryan, I had a soft spot for him. Max (Ryan's twin) on the other hand, can go scratch. It will take a lot for him to redeem himself in book 2 if that even happens.I kind of saw the cliffhanger coming. I still wasn't prepared. Oh my heart just broke. And I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! Good thing book 2 comes out in 2 weeks...4 pieces of eye candy ... See MoreSee Less

Avalanche (Ricochet Ridge) by Jillian Wray My reviewI really liked these two characters and how they aren't exactly what you expected.First, yes they are step brothers. But they are 4 years apart AND Stone left when he was 18. You can extrapolate that there wasn't even a crush between these two guys until this book. Hero worship, yes. Romantic crush, nah.Stone, kind of a hot shot on the mountain because he is part of the blasting crew who set charges to trigger avalanches when no one is on the mountain. He is obviously good looking and popular, but the outside doesn't necessarily match the inside. And Hanlon, babied his whole life because he has a mild case of cerebral palsy, but he also grew into a independent college senior who has a gym body, is confident, out and proud. The quiet kid grew into a confident adult and the confident kid turned into a quiet adult. There was animosity between the step brothers for different reasons. But once they pushed past that and they started feeling things, it got interesting.Again, role reversal of the stereotypical characters. And that made it so fun.It sucked that they basically had to stay in the closet. Because of family and because of work. But we all know that doesn't last forever. And I totally understand their parents feeling the way they do. But like good parents, they found acceptance in their hearts. The CP representation was done really well. Showed that there are different levels of CP and even when it isn't overtly obvious, there's still a lot that a person has to deal with.AND I learned more about avalanches.4 pieces of eye candy ...
