Simon checked his list and wrote out the names that he thought might be a fit. “Thank you. This won’t bring the lost ones back, but it might give the families closure.”

“Don’t hope for much—a lot of folks just pass through a town like this on their way to somewhere else,” Gabriella warned him. “I might hit a dead end.”

Simon smiled. “Thank you for trying.”

Gabriella rose and rinsed out her cup. “I have no patience with people who prey on the vulnerable.” She gave Simon a shrewd look. “It seems to me you’re working three cases at once. The Slitter, the old disappearances, and whoever is sending the cursed objects. That last person is dangerous. They haven’t killed—yet. But I believe they are capable of doing so.”

“That’s what I’m afraid of, too.”
“Come with me.”
Simon followed Gabriella into the botanica. He dogged her

steps as she moved about the shop selecting items to fill a basket— some of which he recognized, and others that were a mystery. He trusted Gabriella to explain eventually.

She returned to the kitchen with a full basket and gestured for Simon to sit across from her.

“Now, we will make charms and hex bags—and I will give you the spells you asked for.”

“Do you know what kind of magic is used to connect the cursed objects to the recipient and link the long-ago misfortune to now? I’ve heard of ‘sympathetic magic,’ but never something quite this elaborate.”

Gabriella was quiet for a moment. “It is a matter of scale and power, but you have the essence of the concept. Like calls to like. There are two types of this magic—I think of them as being ‘for‐ ward’ and ‘back.’ With the backward magic, what is done to an object affects the person who once owned the item. So to burn a person, the witch would set a lock of hair on fire.”

Simon nodded. “That’s the principle behind ‘Voodoo dolls,’ right?”

Gabriella made a face. “Bastardized by Hollywood, but yes.” She drummed her fingers on the table as she thought. “What I think of as ‘forward’ magic is at work in the objects you mentioned. The curse doesn’t affect the baseball player—it touches the person who receives his card. The same with the poker chip. It’s trickier than the first kind.”

“Does it take more skill or just more power?” Simon wasn’t a witch, but he knew that even with his type of abilities, the line between native skill and raw power could make a difference.

“Depends on what the goal is,” Gabriella said. “For what you’ve described, some of both I’d wager. My guess is that your ‘copycat’ might have been an accomplice of the Slitter in some way. Maybe he saw things and didn’t report them—which he regards as actively helping. He admires the killer’s daring, which he lacks himself.”

Antagonist by Ana Ashley: Blog and IG Tour, Exclusive Excerpt, New Release Review and Giveaway

May 16, 2022 by Denise

One artist. One attorney. Two single dads.

Meeting at a bachelor auction for charity had trouble written all over it as far as I was concerned, especially when the guy that won the bid for me seemed to be after only one thing…a good time between the sheets.

Refusing Fletcher’s advances was easy the first time round. After all, we weren’t meant to see each other again.
Except I’ve just moved to Stillwater where Fletcher lives.
Except both our kids are in the same class.

Now the kids are fighting and I’m ready to throw my own punches.
If only Fletcher wasn’t as goddamn irresistible as he is irritating.
When the fight moves from the playground to the bedroom, who will come out on top?

Antagonist is book 1 in Ana Ashley’s new series, Dads of Stillwater.
Single dads, sassy kids, Ana’s usual cast of intriguing secondary characters, Stillwater has it all.

If I could get under Harrison’s skin as much as he’s already under mine, we’d have the most explosive sex known to humankind.

That was one of the many Harrison-related thoughts running through my head most of the parent meeting, which Harrison didn’t show for, and it’s been the same over the last two days.

I can’t blame him for leaving. I’m annoyed, but I get it.

When I pulled him into the supply closet, it wasn’t with the intention of kissing him. The way he spoke to Karina was…I don’t even know. I’m sure no one has spoken to her like that ever. Not even her parents, who come from a modest background and tried, even if they failed, to raise her to be a good person.

I guess she was always a law unto herself. Determined to be just like the people she admired, which is basically anyone with money, regardless of who they really are.

So, no, I hadn’t planned on kissing Harrison. At most, I just wanted to hug him and make sure we were on the same page before walking into the meeting.

Of course, as soon as we walked into the dark closet, all my intentions went up in smoke. I didn’t pick the closet on purpose. I thought we were walking into a classroom or office.

So now I can’t stop thinking about Harrison. His lips, his hard body, his long cock straining against his slacks…

Fuck.

I need to apologize.

If the few interactions I’ve had with him have taught me anything, it’s that he’s wound tight. He likes to be in control of a situation, and as much as I would give anything to see him unravel, I don’t want it to be at the detriment of our tenuous relationship.

God, the way he let me take charge of the kiss. That moment he lost the battle against his own conscience and flipped us, pressing me so hard against the door. When my hair tie snapped, I thought I was going to come right there.

Christ. Get yourself under control, Fletch.

As I turn onto the last street to get to Bittersweet, I feel hot, and not just because of the lack of breeze. Walking to George’s school rather than driving was a good idea, in principle. It’s giving me a chance to put my thoughts in order because it’s only a matter of time before I see Harrison again, and my brain needs to be in sync with my mouth.

I’m not sure it’s working though. The more I think about Harrison, the more I think about all the things I shouldn’t be thinking.

Having not read anything by this author, wasn’t really sure what to expect, but figured starting with the first book in a series was a safe bet. There were quite a few side characters that I am guessing are from a different series, since most were in a relationship, but it didn’t really make me feel lost in the story, as it really was quite focused on the two MC’s and dealing with the new world they now lived in, Stillwater…somewhere in New England, not far Boston.

I liked the varied personalities of the MC’s, although, as the reader gets to know Harrison, his personality seems to morph a bit into what is likely his “real” personality, but not one we had seen previously. I actually liked this side of him. As he became more comfortable with the bisexual side of himself, he allowed himself to be more assertive, more open.

Meanwhile, Fletcher was 100% himself from Day 1. Which honestly is my biggest issue with the book. Consent was not given on multiple occasions by Harrison, he said emphatic no’s several times, and not only did Fletcher not accept them, he kissed (and more) Harrison anyway. More than once. And while Harrison could easily stand up for himself, and did. Fletcher was much more aggressive about it than I felt he should have been. One time I can see as that hot “see, you really want me” kiss, but Harrison said no many times, and Fletcher still did it, and was convinced Harrison wanted him.

Above all, though, both men were great fathers, who put their children above all else…I mean how adorable is it that Harrison could French braid his daughter’s hair, and then even Fletcher’s? They spent time helping the school and the community, as they became closer, and both men were close to Harrison’s ex-wife (I do love a story where a previous spouse can be on great terms with their co-parent. This was a fantastic example.)

Overall, I liked the story, and am seriously invested in book 2, wanting to know how Ellis and the sweet baby toting store clerk hit it off. I want to know his story, and see how it unfolds.

Forever After (Finding Forever, Book 3) by Marie Sinclair: Blog Tour, Exclusive Excerpt, New Release Review and Giveaway

May 9, 2022 by Denise

After a fire destroys his apartment, Diego has no choice but to move in with the person least likely to welcome him with open arms: Alex, the recently divorced, presumably straight guy who didn’t take kindly to Diego hitting on him at a friend’s wedding.

Unfortunately, Alex isn’t exactly in a position to complain about the living arrangements. After his wife cheated, he moved across the country to San Francisco to start over. The place he’s living in belongs to a friend, so when Jake also offers Diego a room, Alex needs to figure out how to deal with the exceptionally hot, sex-positive, queer youth counselor whose gaydar has picked up that Alex isn’t as straight as everyone thinks he is.

Forced to live in the same house, Alex and Diego are about as combustible as fire and gasoline. But when Alex’s thirteen-year-old comes out as trans masc and moves into the house with them, Alex begins to see another side of Diego, and Diego realizes this sullen, complicated man has a heart of gold that’s been stomped on a few too many times.

Once the walls start to come down, Alex and Diego realize they have a lot in common. Not to mention an attraction that blazes hotter the more they get to know each other.

Forever After is an enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, bi-awakening story. It is Book Three in the Finding Forever series but can be read as a stand-alone novel.

Alex waited for Jesse to wind down.

“So,” he said, “you probably know some of what I’m going to say.”

“Yeah, Dad.” Jesse grinned and sat at the kitchen table, primly folding their hands on the surface. “I just want you to know that whatever you have to tell me, it doesn’t matter who you love, you’re still my dad, and I love you.”

Alex stared at his kid until they couldn’t hold back the laughter, and then he joined Jesse at the table. “I guess we are doing this a little backwards, huh?”

Jesse shrugged. “Doesn’t matter. I don’t want you coming out to me to suck as much as me coming out to Mom.”

“Thank you. So this is the part where I tell you that I’m bi, right?”

“Pretty much. And I ask, does Mom know, and is this why you guys broke up?”

“Yes, Mom knows, and no, it’s not why we broke up. At least not directly.”

“Are you going to tell her about Mr. D?”

“I think I’m going to have to.”

“You two have been like a couple since I got here. I kind of thought, at first, but it was weird because I had no idea that you…I mean, it wasn’t impossible, but…” Jesse suddenly blushed. “You guys gave off a certain…vibe. And Mr. D is really hot, so who wouldn’t want him?”

“What about me?” Alex asked and laughed when Jesse wrinkled their nose and shook their head. “Are you telling me my boyfriend’s out of my league?”

The mix of emotions that crossed Jesse’s face had Alex laughing even harder: surprise, embarrassment, but most of all, a confused mix of horror and shock. They scrambled off Alex’s lap. “Ew. Don’t make me think about the two of you…ungh. Just no. No!” They started for the stairs. “I’ve got some homework to do. Try to remember there’s an innocent child in the house when you’re with your boyfriend, Dad.”

Enjoyable book, but I feel like they should have focused on one or two things outside the budding relationship between Diego and Alex rather than a little bit of a bunch of sub plots.

Alex is newly divorced and moved back to San Francisco where he has friends from when he went to college. One of them has a beach front bungalow that is empty and offers it to Alex; he will also work on some renovations in the house.

Diego is a youth counselor at an LGBT+ center in the city. But when his apartment building burns down, he also moves into the bungalow until something better comes up. SF living is not cheap.

The forced proximity was what it was, nothing really new there. But then Alex’s oldest comes out as trans and moves across the country and in with him- and Diego. Luckily Diego has experience in this. Alex’s ex wife is a bit transphobic to put it mildly.

There are also subplots with a kid staying at the LGBT center, a new volunteer looking for a boyfriend from 40+ years ago, a house renovation that uncovers the history of a lesbian couple, one of which may have been trans, etc. There’s just all of these little things sprinkled about and while they all got closure, I don’t think any of them got the depth that they deserved.

The romance between Diego and Alex was fairly generic for a bi-awakening guy with an out gay man. It was nice, but nothing overly special.

This is book 3, but I read it as a stand alone. I don’t know if I enjoyed this one enough to go back and read the previous 2.

Marriage is Murder (Sawyer and Royce: Matrimony and Mayhem Book 2) by Aimee Nicole Walker: Blog Tour, Exclusive Excerpt, New Release Review and Giveaway

May 5, 2022 by Denise

Spring is in full bloom, love is in the air, and Cupid has taken deadly aim in Savannah.

Newly engaged, Royce Locke and Sawyer Key are ready to set the date and charge full-steam ahead into their happily ever after, but homicides and unresolved conflicts keep getting in their way. Neither detective has met a case they couldn’t solve, but their latest investigations will push their limits and challenge their faith when the line between friend and foe becomes blurred. And if that weren’t enough, a random encounter with a stranger will trigger a series of events that could either make or break the couple.

Love—often a thriller, sometimes a killer, but always worth the battle.

Marriage is Murder is book two in the Matrimony and Mayhem trilogy, the second story arc for Royce Locke and Sawyer Key.

** New readers should start with the Zero Hour trilogy before reading Matrimony and Mayhem. ** Marriage is Murder is a continuation of Royce and Sawyer’s happily ever after as they move into the next phase of their lives—professionally and personally. Though some storylines span the trilogy, this book does not end in a cliffhanger. Heat, humor, heart, and homicide abound. You have been warned. 18+

Book 1: The Magnolia Murders (Sawyer and Royce: Matrimony and Mayhem Book 1)

Book 3: Killer Honeymoon (Sawyer and Royce: Matrimony and Mayhem Book 3) (out 7/1)

When Royce had pulled up to The Pirate’s House restaurant, he figured he’d seen it all and that nothing could shock him at that point in his career. He’d gone through the usual steps of putting on his PPE, signing in at the scene, and chatting with the responding officers, Jennifer Wang and Sierra Knight, who happened to be two of his favorites. Something in their expressions had tipped Royce off that this crime scene was like no other he’d ever seen. His brows edged toward his hairline as they described arriving on location.

“Shot through the heart with an arrow?” Royce had asked when they’d finished.

Wang nodded. “He landed on the wedding cake.”

“Smashed it to bits,” Knight added. “Vanilla cake with strawberry filling.”

Tara arrived before Royce could say anything further. She greeted the patrol officers and asked them to bring her up to speed. Royce noticed what looked like the top of a hickey peeking out from the collar of her shirt. He knew Tara and Candy had gone out a few times since he’d reintroduced them two months ago, but neither had mentioned the dates to him, and he didn’t push. He really, really wanted to, though. As if sensing Royce’s attention on her, Tara rolled her shoulders and adjusted her shirt before meeting his gaze with a quirked brow.

“Shot through the heart with an arrow?” she asked Royce.

“I had the same reaction. Does that make Cupid our prime suspect?”

“Or someone living out Bon Jovi lyrics,” Tara replied.

More adventures for Locke and Key.

Both are settling into their new normal. Sawyer investigating cold cases and Royce working on current homicides with his new partner until his new program for teens is ready. The last book solved a cold case (and a current murder) so they worked in tandem. This time they are working independent cases. Sawyer is mostly closing a couple of cold cases without a ton of fanfare. But Royce has a murder to solve that has some interesting twists and turns to it.

And throughout it all Sawyer’s mother is planning their wedding. Spoiler alert: we get a wedding date!

The book was a fun read, the story uncomplicated with a lot of different loose ends being tied up. And while solving the murder turned out to be pretty interesting, it wasn’t a huge page turner. Like I said, fun. But not really gripping.

I think the next book might be the last and even though I really want them to get their wedding, family and happily ever after, I would love to sink my teeth into a juicy mystery.

Must read for fans of the series.

Play By Heart by Ariella Zoelle: Blog Tour, Exclusive Excerpt, and Giveaway

April 29, 2022 by Denise

Iason’s known worldwide for his romantic lyrics, but he never thought he’d fall in love. Will his luck change when the stars align to bring Orion into his life?

Iason Leyland

My love songs may have made me famous, but they were beautifully written lies that hid the fact I’ve never loved anyone. I had almost given up hope of finding true love, but then I meet him. Orion is all my wishes on stars who can make my dreams come true. He’s my perfect partner in every way except one: he’s straight. Why, universe? Why?

But the cosmic force that brought us together apparently knows what it’s doing based on the sweet way Orion blushes every time we’re together. Can I convince him that we could make beautiful music together that will be worthy of my most romantic ballad yet?

Orion Donati

I’ve been a fan of Iason and his beautiful voice and lyrics for years. I never expected him to know I even exist, let alone fall in love with me. But regardless of that impossibility, he looks at me like I’m the sun, the moon, and all the stars in his universe. As a straight man, I probably shouldn’t be interested, much less tempted by his flirtations. But despite that, everything in me wants a chance to be his magical muse for the songs I love so much.

Meeting him makes me realize that I’m not quite as straight as I thought. The most unbelievable thing of all is that someone as amazingly famous as him could ever want a shy nobody like me. But I don’t want to doubt his sincerity. I want to be brave enough to believe he’s interested in me for real.

Maybe I don’t have to settle for being a fan who adores him from afar. What if I dare to dream that I could be his boyfriend who loves him with all my heart instead?

Play By Heart is the first book in the Harmony of Hearts series and part of the Sunnyside universe. This novel features a bi awakening, insta love, rock star, shy/flirt, gay romance. If you love cute sweetness, sexy fun, and no angst stories that will make you laugh and swoon, you’ll enjoy this satisfying HEA without cliffhangers. Each book can be read as a standalone or as part of the series in order.

Goodreads

My heart thudded hard as I stared up at Iason in disbelief. Was he talking about me? I would never forget him singing along to that song in my car on the way back to my place after dinner that first night, but Iason couldn’t possibly mean me, right? On what planet was it possible that our first date was his favorite? I hadn’t known we were on a date!

He winked at me, leaving no doubt in my mind he meant me. Hearing him crooning along in my car under his breath was one thing. Him singing it in earnest was something else entirely.

I forgot how to breathe, how to think, how to do anything other than experience every note he sang on an intimate level. When he tossed his head back and opened up his huge voice on the big climax of the song, I almost lost the battle against my body. I experienced the fullness of Iason’s voice with the entirety of my being, leaving me trembling and on the brink of release.

When the last note faded, everyone burst into applause and cheers, but I couldn’t react. It was too much for me to handle—especially knowing he sang that song because of me. His eyes met mine, causing the theatre and crowd to disappear, leaving only us. He smiled just for me, making me swoon.

Iason lifted his gaze to stare out over the audience, allowing me to gasp for air. I hadn’t realized I had been holding my breath until that moment. They began playing another one of Iason’s songs, but I was still lost in hearing the echo inside my soul of him singing “Last Goodbye” just for me. It suffused me with warmth, serving as further proof that he treasured me in a way nobody ever had before.

He played a single off his last album, pulling me from my thoughts as I got caught up in listening to him. I was still on the brink of embarrassing myself from my body’s intense reaction to him. While I had always had sensitive hearing and had been to concerts before, no one’s voice had ever affected me on such a sexually stimulating level before.

Now, his voice intimately penetrated me, with every rise and fall of his vocalization a satisfying thrust. The desire pent-up inside me became more unbearable with each song he sang. How would I make it back to the hotel without coming first?

I lost myself in the experience of being surrounded by Iason’s magnificent voice, which filled the enormous theatre space with its fullness. I forgot about everything that wasn’t him as I let him carry me away with his music.

Not a Boy (All American Boy Series) by Elle Keaton: Blog Tour, and Exclusive Excerpt

April 27, 2022 by Denise

Henry should have kept on walking by when he spotted the younger man sitting alone on the beach. He should never have stopped, never sat down, and certainly never kissed him. Because now Henry is experiencing feelings. And he doesn’t like it one bit.

Things happen for a reason, even random hook-ups. Ben was supposed to get off work early that night. It was no accident the sexy stranger stumbled on his beach hiding spot. The Kiss was destined, as well as what happened afterward. It wasn’t as if Ben believed in love at first sight, but this was damn close.

It’s a good thing Henry lives three-thousand miles away or he might do something stupid, like ask for Ben’s phone number.

Ben’s hometown boss begs him to return and he agrees, only regretting not being able to say goodbye to his snarky divorce lawyer. But all the wanting in the universe isn’t going to bring them together again, he doesn’t even know Henry’s last name. Besides, home is on the west coast, not Maine.

Sometimes the universe is a funny place.

“Ben leaned as close as he could and whispered in Henry’s ear. “I’m twenty-six, Henry Carr, not a boy, and if I want to exchange bites with the sexiest man at this table, I will. If you’re worried about Chuck because of something he might say or do to you, let me know, and we’ll keep the whole thing under wraps. But before you make your choice, let me be clear. I want to go home with you tonight. The only good about this…” he glanced around the table, “travesty of a wedding is the fact that it brought you here to me. I’ve missed you and since I didn’t know your last name, where you worked, or what city you lived in, I couldn’t find you. It’s rare for me to buy into Marigold’s tarot readings, but we’re meeting again for a reason, and I’m going to make it hard for you to say no.”

Henry’s mouth opened and closed. “Yes.”

“Yes?” Ben leaned back, giving Henry space.

Now Henry closed the distance between them. “Yes. I want you to come home with me tonight. I want to spend the weekend with you. I want you naked and in my bed.””

Grab it in KU!#OneClickNowa.co/d/0io1BhPZWhy you need to #ONECLICK this book…🔥Friends to Lovers🔥Only One Bed🔥Sexual Awakening🔥Hockey Goalies in love🔥Grumpy/Sunshine🔥Hockey Bro Banter🔥Praise Kink“For five million dollars, would you send a relative to jail?”"Bud, I would pay five million dollars to send a few there."Problem number one: Almost everything the world thinks they know about me is a lie.Problem number two: Two people know the truth.Problem number three: One of those two is a stalker and he's having a blast using that informationagainst me to get his way.The good news is, the second person who knows the truth about who I am seems pretty dedicated totaking my stalker down. The bad news is, it’s NHL goalie Vanya Maximov, and he and I had a one night stand that I can’t stop thinking about. And while Vanya might be walking sunshine so bright he can make even my blind ass see light, we have no business being together.I’m a mess, and while Vanya is everything I’ve ever wanted in a partner, he deserves better than me.If only he was willing to listen to reason. If only he was less stubborn and able to give up on a lost cause. But with his ability to give me exactly what I want—a little pain with my pleasure—and his refusal to treat me like I’m fragile, something dangerous starts happening.I’m beginning to think that maybe—just maybe—he’s right, and I am worth everything he sees.Hat Trick is the second book in the Punk as Puck spin-off series, Legends and Fury. It’s a high heat, friends to lovers romance with a sunshine NHL goalie who also might be a golden retriever in disguise, a PPHL goalie with big black cat energy, a stalker, and no faith in himself, hooking up in a friend’s car, praise and pain, high stakes romance, hockey bro banter, tons of chirping, and the swooniest happily ever after.#newbookalert #emlindsey #mmromance The Author Agency ... My review:Shadows Never Leave (Shadows duet book 2) by Lark TaylorThis is book 2 of a duet and you must read book 1 first...a.co/d/06h9mALvThis one was a bit tough for me. Mostly because I enjoyed book 1 so much I was expecting more from book 2.A note that cheating doesn't really bother me in books. But I felt that having Ryan engaged when Dominic returns was a bit too much...After 10 years Dom (and Max) are back. Dom wants to win Ryan back. Max wants his twin back in his life. But Ryan isn't that 18 year old kid anymore. And he isn't taking anyone's crap either.Dom is totally annoying at first. Ryan jokingly calls him a stalker, but there were stalker vibes there. Which fit with his personality but still.Too much of the book is them just rehashing what happened when Dom left and the fact that they have had zero communication in that time. Over and over and over again. It got to the point where I was ready to throw my kindle if Ryan said "BUT YOU LEFT!" one more time. And it is sooooooo obvious that he and his fiance Katie don't belong together. They liked each other. Probably loved each other. And they were the type of couple to make it work and make it look perfect on the outside. But they would have ended up miserable. So yes, we get the HEA. But we had to trudge through some mud to get there.3 pieces of eye candy ... See MoreSee Less

New release and my review for:Seven Minutes by Raquel Riley At times this was a difficult read for me (stress for ME). But that didn't make it a bad book. Quite the contrary. Any book that stirs feelings in you is a book that hits home.We aren't yet privy to the relationship between Adrian and Eli when a horrific car accident brings Eli to Adrian's emergency room. (maybe a nitpick here but how did none of the staff know it was his husband??) The title refers to the 7 minutes after you die when your brain is still functioning. Which is really kind of scary to me. But it is through those 7 minutes of recollection by Eli that we get most of the back story.Being that this is a romance, I don't think it is much of a spoiler that Eli survives. But what comes next is picking up the pieces of their lives, and more importantly, their marriage. There are fights and apologies and explanations.... Eli is still ready to give up despite his love for Adrian. Adrian is not giving up because of his love of Eli.You don't appreciate what you have until you lose it. Or almost lose it.4 Pieces of Eye CandyOne click here 👉 a.co/d/0e1X1vOC ... See MoreSee Less
