Summerfield’s Angel (The Christmas Angel Book 2): Blog Tour, New Release Review and Giveaway

December 6, 2018 by Denise

After the hard winter of 1888 ended Alby Boyle’s work as a Nebraska ranch hand, he returned to New York City in search of his long-lost family. His mother and brothers are nowhere to be found, however, and after Alby’s years of absence, Five Corners no longer feels like home. His prospects seem as dim as the nighttime alleys.

When Alby pauses to admire an angel ornament in a department store window’s Christmas display, he meets Xeno Varnham-Summerfield. Wealthy, handsome, and enthusiastic, Xeno brings Alby some temporary cheer. But for Alby to achieve his dreams of love and a real home, well, that may take a bit of holiday magic.

Christmas Angel is back at it again…

When Alby comes back to New York to find his mom and brothers, he stumbles not only into Xeno, who is the complete opposite of his hard-working, barely able to make ends meet, ranch hand without a ranch, having self; but also, a beautiful Christmas tree Angel that gives him a little pep talk, and a kiss on the forehead… and a little Christmas magic, I suppose.

Xeno comes from a wealthy family, and is so open and outgoing, it was impossible for Alby to not become enchanted by him.. and Xeno seemed fascinated by Alby and his story…which was a heartbreaking one… After pointing him to a place he could stay and be warm, Alby decides to look for a job while he’s in town. Little meetings with Xeno turn into long nights in a private room at the Y, and even though they both feel for one another, they know something long term isn’t likely. People would talk, speculate, and all this was a time where you could be jailed, or worse for the crime of homosexuality. How thankful I am that the times have changed, but how heartbreaking that would be…

When the angel appears once again to warn Alby that Xeno is being hurt, everything changes… when Alby saves Xeno’s life, everyone is so grateful, Xeno’s family offers them a perfect solution… I love how accepting they are, his dad and sister, and I was cheering for them the whole time. Alby even gets to reconnect with one of his brothers. A Christmas miracle!

Awesome addition to this little series… I can’t wait to see what the Angel has in store for the next couple!

Kim’s novel Brute was the 2013 Rainbow Award Winner for Best Gay Fantasy and tied for fourth place for Best Gay Novel.

After having migrated back and forth across the western two-thirds of the United States, Kim calls the boring part of California home. “ALEXANDRE, GOOD morning.” Charles Bonfils, the patriarch of Bonfils Bibendum, the highly prestigious London wine merchants, a cousin of an English baronet, and a personal multimillionaire—if he ever had the poor manners to share actual financials with anyone other than his personal advisors—inclined his distinguished, salt-and-pepper-haired head at the young man sitting on the other side of his desk. “Good of you to turn up on time.”

Alex Bonfils inwardly winced. His father was one of the few people who could, without fail, make him feel four years old again. He resisted rubbing his palms dry on his designer slacks, but only just, and nodded in reply. “Papa, when you call, I come. Of course.”

Charles lifted one eyebrow; that was all.

It was enough.

“Father.” Alex took a deep breath and ran his hand through his blond hair, inevitably destroying the artful work of his personal stylist. “Okay, so I know I haven’t been your most reliable son—”

“I only have two,” Charles murmured. “And all I ask is that they are both full participants in the family business. Or any legitimate business, for that matter.” He sounded calm, but his fingers tightened dangerously around his antique ink pen.

“Yeah.” Alex assumed this summons was something to do with him missing the latest Bonfils management meeting. Or maybe it was because of those embarrassing paparazzi pictures taken in the nightclub last weekend with the twin male models. Or when he gate-crashed the Queen’s garden party last summer, or the fact that Alex had never bothered to finish his university business management course, preferring to go backpacking in Ibiza, or… or… oh, many more examples of how he continued to disappoint his august Papa.

“I think the time has come to face facts,” Charles said.

“Yes? I mean, it has? What about?”

Charles grimaced, obviously struggling to keep his temper. “You have shown little enthusiasm in the business to date, whereas Henri….”

Alex bit back a snort. Henri. His revered, very sober and sensible elder brother, with a gorgeous aristocratic wife and two precocious children to carry on the Bonfils family line. Henri was their father’s chosen heir to the business dynasty. Henri was brighter, smarter, more reliable, more respectable, more predictable—

“Alexandre? Are you listening to me?”

Alex jolted back to attention. “Sure. Go on. You were talking about Henri. How does that affect me?” He hadn’t meant to sound snappy, but constant comparison to a preferred sibling would do that to a guy.

“He’s Bonfils’s CEO for a reason, Alex. He’s committed to the company, a fierce supporter of the industry. He listens, and he learns. Then he works hard.”

The implication was there—Henri was and did all the things Alex wasn’t and didn’t.

“I can work hard.” Alex wished he sounded less defensive. He could work hard. He was just so rarely inspired to. Or rather, he was distracted by things more exciting, more dramatic, more intriguing than profit and loss accounts, stock turnover ratios, and five-year operational budgets.

He hid his shudder at the mere thought.

Surprisingly, his father didn’t scorn his protest. Instead, his gaze almost softened. “Believe me, I know you can. And you do, for the things you love. You have many excellent qualities, and the good intention of using them. But I can’t rely on mere intention for the continuing, successful management of this company. It needs to be your life’s work.”

Alex blinked hard. What was Charles saying? “Jesus, Papa. Are you firing me?”

Charles blew out a tight breath. “I cannot fire you, as you so quaintly put it, when you have a unique position as my son. However, I see no reason to burden you with an operational role any longer.” His tone hardened. “Alexandre, I think you should find yourself a new, personally satisfying project. You will no longer be needed at the monthly management meetings. Your personal allowance will continue—it was your mother’s last wish that all members of the family are supported, regardless of their role in the business—but I think it best for both our expectations if you distance yourself for a while from Bonfils’s Bibendum.” He placed his pen down on the desk blotter with exaggerated care.

Alex was speechless. It was an unfamiliar status.

For a long moment, Charles was still. Then he stood and half lifted his hand from his side, as if he was about to shake Alex’s hand or maybe—just maybe—pat him on the shoulder. Instead, he sighed deeply and gestured gently toward the door for Alex to leave. “And now, if you’ll excuse me, I have an appointment elsewhere.”

Mmmkay, so I didn’t read the first two in this series, so I’m not sure if it took anything way from the story, but I don’t feel like it did.  I’m not usually one to read “millionaire” books, cuz they all seem so pompous and holier than thou, and that just gets on my nerves….
While Alex doesn’t seem to have much ambition at first, or really take things like his job seriously… he didn’t have the jerky quality that most entitled people have LOL, I was glad for that.

So, if you read any of my reviews, you know how much Jennifer digs hot dads, or father figures. That’s what we get in Tate. He’s taking care of his siblings and working at the company that Alex just got fired from, that his father owns.

Alex kind of seems like he has more money than sense…. So, he’s surprised when his dad lets him go. Instead of going like his dad requested, he instead decides to go undercover with the company, start from the bottom and work his way up to impress his dad, but also to find out who’s been involved in some shady going on at said factory…

I saw it coming from 10 miles away, so the mystery wasn’t so much of a mystery to me… it just seemed like a “duh” moment when everything comes to light….

So, when they meet, Tate being Alex’s boss…. Of course they’re attracted to each other… Tate’s not sure about dating, having so much on his plate and taking care of his family, but Alex was pretty charming.
Their back and forth was cute, it wasn’t passionate or lovey, I would say…. But I did like Alex slid in and was so good with the family. Is there anything hotter than a hot guy with kids? I mean, really? So, I enjoyed that part.

Even though things were a bit rocky in the beginning, I did enjoy these two together and I’m glad that everything worked out for them, especially as a family…

Being part of a large LGBTQ community and landing his dream job at Inkubus, a local tattoo shop, is too big of a draw for him to turn down. But just when he thinks his new life is going perfectly, he finds out his burgeoning relationship is nothing more than a friends-with-benefits arrangement to the man he was swiftly falling for. Suddenly, everything that felt so right to him feels all wrong, and he wonders if New York, with his family, is where he is meant to be after all.

Jake has worked hard for the life he’s made for himself in Brighton Pier. His life as a bachelor is pretty set in stone. Running his own business and spending time with his family and friends is enough for him, or so he’s convinced himself. Though he’s met a man he cares for, he’s adamant about keeping his single life as is. He has his reasons for not wanting to commit to the beautiful man he’s irrevocably drawn to. He just hopes their friends-with-benefits arrangement will be enough to keep Eli in his life.

When tragedy strikes, and Jake’s world is turned upside down, his instincts lead him to lean on the one person who’s become someone special, despite his best efforts to try and push him away. Eli—unable to turn Jake away when a loss so great takes the strong man to his knees—steps selflessly into the void in Jake’s life, regardless of the toll it takes on him. As both men struggle to deal with their own emotional turmoil, their lives veering off course, they grow inevitably closer as the days pass. But even so, they are still left wondering—can two people, drawn together by tragedy, turn a devastating situation into a fresh start? Or is it too late for a new beginning?

The smile faded from Jake’s face, his defenses visibly shooting up in the blink of an eye. “We need to talk.”

“No, we really don’t.” Eli dried his hands on some paper towels, leaning back against the counter as he stared at Jake. Now or never. “Besides, I’ve got plans.” He watched the color rise in Jake’s tanned skin, his brown eyes hardening.

Jake sat up straighter in the chair, flexing his right hand into a fist. “With who?” It took everything in Eli not to laugh from the hypocrisy or shudder from the deep timbre of the man’s voice. Was it totally fucked up to think an angry Jake was tempting as hell? Completely fucked up, Eli.

Eli opened his mouth just as someone knocked on his station wall. Both men turned their heads in the direction of the sound. Eli’s pulse sped up, knowing who it would be. He’d like to say his racing pulse was a reaction to the man standing in his doorway, but that would be a lie. Instead, he refused to look at the person in the chair who was actually the cause of his rapidly beating heart and sweaty palms.

“Am I interrupting something?” The guy looked unsure about what was going on, and Eli felt like an ass.

“Hey, Chris.” Eli looked at Jake then back at Chris. “No, you’re not interrupting anything.”

“Are you ready to go?” Chris asked, flashing Eli a smile before side-eyeing Jake again.

Jake snorted in disbelief, looking up at Chris from the chair before standing and towering over the man. “You’re not serious.” Chris, to his credit, didn’t even flinch.

“Chris, can you give me a minute? I’ll be right out.” Eli prayed like hell Chris couldn’t tell how pissed Eli was at Jake.

The guy hesitated, taking one last confused look at Jake before saying, “Yeah, sure. I’ll be out front.”

The second Chris left, Eli faced off with Jake whose dark eyes were shooting daggers. “You’re seriously going out with that guy?” Jake snapped, pointing in the direction Chris had just gone. Good, he’s pissed. Now they were finally on the same page.

“Yeah, I am.” He crossed his arms over his chest, ready for whatever bullshit Jake was going to throw at him.

“Out of spite?” Jake’s voice radiated anger, his nostrils flaring as he looked at Eli like he’d lost his damn mind.

“Jesus, Novak, not everything is about you,” Eli said incredulously. Was this guy for real? For months Eli gave him space, let him make all the rules while hoping things would change. Nothing. Ever. Fucking. Changed.

“Then what the fuck is it about?”

Eli lowered his head and pinched the bridge of his nose, releasing a long, exhausted sigh. He glanced up, meeting Jake’s eyes again then shook his head. “Moving on.” He backed up a step then turned and left Jake standing there. He didn’t look back even though he could hear the man following behind him. Moving on meant moving forward…and no looking back.

Sigh…. I love this whole family!

When I saw the next one coming out and that it was a spin off from the Hard To series, I was sooo hoping it was Zachariah… but just as well, it’s his little brother Eli.
Eli moved away from his big supportive family, and found a job and a slew of friends at tattoo shop, Inkubus Tattoo’s. What he didn’t plan for, was falling for owner and best friend, Jake, who kept making it clear that he wasn’t the forever kind. Forced to listen Jake brag about his conquests and then come right back to Eli, hurt Eli so bad, but, for some reason, he just kept letting Jake in.

I wasn’t sure I was going to like Jake at first… It took me a bit to get to know him and realize at least a little bit, why he was the way he was. I still wanted to shake him and maybe throat punch him… but.. issue’s man.. we all got em!
It was just when Eli had decided that enough was enough that tragedy struck the only family that Jake had, and Eli was running right back to him. To have his back and be there for him. And Jake needed it… he needed Eli, and he the more Eli was there for him, the more he was made to realize that not did he need him, but his nephews he was now raising did too.

And isn’t it obvious how sunken I am for a hot single dad, or a hot uncle, or a sibling that takes on that role. Hot guys that are good with kids are my favorite! I love how realistically the loss was portrayed with the kids, how their grief was so different from both of them and how wonderfully it was handled. Especially because the guys were just kind of thrown into the deep end and it was either sink or swim… especially with Jake’s parents looming and being terrible people.
You will not like them…. prepare for that going in.

But, like every story I’ve read from this author… it all works out in the end, and everyone is stronger and happier because of it. I loved everything about this story…. the chosen family and how amazing Eli’s family is in accepting the new additions in Eli’s life. All of their friends and neighbors that step up and love them unconditionally…. and even the prospect of Ryder and Avery, and hopefully Zach, sooner rather than lter. I have a feeling I’m going to love him!

So, if you haven’t…. go read the other’s in the Hard To series, that this spin-off was based around, you won’t be disappointed… this one is a perfect addition.

5 pieces of eye candy from me!

I have been an artist from a very young age. From drawing cartoon characters and evolving into portraits, making jewelry, photography, and now writing. I have an amazing support system in my family and friends and couldn’t be more grateful.

I live in central New Jersey, love summers at the Jersey Shore, rock music, wine, sexy men, and laughing a lot with my amazing friends and family. Sunday dinners at my parents’ house are crazy, hysterical and you can count on a movie quote…or ten…being thrown out. Insults between siblings is how we show our love for each other!

When I’m not creating, you can find me reading books from my favorite authors. I’m a hopeless romantic, starving for passionate characters and always craving that happy ending, whether in reading or in writing my own books.

I really liked this trope. Vacation hookup that quickly becomes more. Can they make it work together at home. And I really liked that they had the opportunity to test it out at home a bit, meeting the kids, etc.

What threw me a little (and don’t get me wrong, I know it’s a holiday story, and short, so not a lot of time, but…) was that there was really no conflict at all. Everything that clearly was set up as a conflict, Warren’s adult children, who didn’t know he was bisexual, Fletcher’s keeping his job a secret from Warren, even Warren’s job traveling…none of those ever became an issue. It came “to a head” and was instantly gone. There was no real conflict to speak of. Which is absolutely fine, if that is the intent, but because all of those things were brought up many times, it seemed as if they should be.

Anyway, I really loved Warren and Fletcher’s relationship. They were instantly attracted, yet didn’t just jump right into bed. They spent time together, had fun, learned about each other, until they felt the time was right. And that the kids loved Fletcher immediately was fantastic as well, because that of course can make or break a relationship.

All in all a sweet story. 3.5 pieces of eye candy

Christmas Angel (The Christmas Angel Book 1) by Eli Easton: Blog Tour, New Release Review and Giveaway

December 4, 2018 by Denise

When John Trent, a dedicated member of the new Bow Street Runners, finds an exquisite carved angel floating in the Thames, he can’t stop thinking about it. He tracks down its creator, a sad and quiet young sculptor. But neither the angel nor the sculptor is done with John just yet. The blasted angel refuses to leave him be, behaving not at all like an inanimate object should.

Alec Allston is resigned to the fact that his love will ever be a river that flows out and never flows in. All he wanted to do was create a special gift so that a small part of himself could be with his unattainable and noble beloved, always. But when the gift keeps showing back up at his shop in the hands of a windblown and rugged thief-taker, Alec will need to reconsider his conviction that love is destined to remain an ethereal ideal.

This book is one of seven stories which can all be read and enjoyed in any order.

The Christmas Angel Series:

In 1750, a master woodcarver poured all his unrequited love, passion, and longing into his masterpiece—a gorgeous Christmas angel for his beloved’s tree. When the man he loved tossed the angel away without a second thought, a miracle happened. The angel was found by another who brought the woodcarver True Love.

Since then, the angel has been passed down, sold, lost and found, but its magic remains. Read the romances inspired by (and perhaps nudged along by) the Christmas angel through the years. Whether it’s the 1880’s New York (Kim Fielding’s Summerfield’s Angel), the turn-of-the-century (Jordan L. Hawk’s Magician’s Angel), World War II (L.A. Witt’s Christmas Homecoming), Vietnam-era (N.R. Walker’s Soldier’s Wish), the 1990’s (Anyta Sunday’s Shrewd Angel), or 2018 (RJ Scott’s Christmas Prince), the Christmas angel has a way of landing on the trees of lonely men who need its blessing for a very Merry Christmas and forever HEA.

How sweet!!

In a time where not only being who he is could’ve gotten him arrested but killed… England, in the 1750’s were brutal, and Alec Allston was heartbroken, having been strung along and then left by an affluent A-hole. Seeing no other way to live with his broken heart and loneliness that he was about to do something drastic. That was, until an angel stopped him by name and reminded him of all he had to live for.

John Trent is a cop of some sort, but before cops were cops I guess…? Maybe I’m wrong about that, but he seems to be a detective of some sort … but he finds a sculpted angel floating in the Thames, and traces it back to it’s source…. The soft spoken Alec, who had given it to the Ahole I mentioned before. When he gives it back and then acquires it for a second time, Alec declares that the angel must’ve chosen John Trent, and so the courting begins….

I love how a simple look or a holding of the arm is such a declaration of affection. Oh what simpler times… I couldn’t even imagine… it made everything so much sweeter. For the following couple of weeks, John stopped by to see Alec, bringing small tokens of his affection… it was easy to see these two fall for each other and I loved it! I also loved John’s housemates, all of them different than societal norms, but they made up the best little chosen family, all of which accepted Alec with open arms…

If you enjoy a slow romancing of two charming fella’s… this one is really cute!

Having been, at various times and under different names, a minister’s daughter, a computer programmer, a game designer, the author of paranormal mysteries, a fan fiction writer, and organic farmer, Eli has been a m/m romance author since 2013. She has over 30 books published.

Eli has loved romance since her teens and she particular admires writers who can combine literary merit, genuine humor, melting hotness, and eye-dabbing sweetness into one story. She promises to strive to achieve most of that most of the time. She currently lives on a farm in Pennsylvania with her husband, bulldogs, cows, a cat, and lots of groundhogs.

In romance, Eli is best known for her Christmas stories because she’s a total Christmas sap. These include “Blame it on the Mistletoe”, “Unwrapping Hank” and “Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles”. Her “Howl at the Moon” series of paranormal romances featuring the town of Mad Creek and its dog shifters has been popular with readers. And her series of Amish-themed romances, Men of Lancaster County, has won genre awards.

His agreement with Hayden was to work quickly to finish the bedrooms for his guests who would be coming in this evening. He promised to throw in a little extra for Tommy’s trouble, money that Tommy really didn’t need, but he really wanted a chance to work on this old house. He had plenty of money, but he wasn’t rich by any stretch of the imagination, however, he lived modestly and put money away in the event something happened that kept him from working. Besides, that buzzing in his head had plagued him most of the evening prior, a buzzing accompanied by the face of the man who owned this house.

He had given that some thought, after failed attempts to quash it down. His inability to do so made him especially grouchy. He paced the floors of his house last night, looking at the telephone. It hadn’t been late, and he was thinking of offering to make dinner for the both of them.

No one came to answer the door. So, he raised his hand and pounded on the glass pane harder this time. His car was here. Finally, he heard stumbling around. Heard Hayden bang into something and curse. Tommy snickered. The door flung open and there stood a disheveled and unshaven Hayden. His eyes were wide, and his hair stood up on end.

“S-s-sorry. Come on in,”he stammered, blinking back the light.

Tommy grinned a bit. The buzzing in his head turned into a full-out hum; he was happy to see Hayden.

Hayden was surprised he had slept through his alarm, and he was a bit horrified at the thought of the way he looked. He stood back and let Tommy walk in. The large man entered the house and immediately headed for the kitchen. Hayden followed.

“I’m sorry. I had a rough night. Can I make you some coffee?”He was stunned again by the sheer size of the man before him and found his eyes wandering down to his butt. He had a great pair of buns in the jeans that he wore. He got an even better view as Tommy leaned down to set his bag on the floor next to the countertop. He turned to answer Hayden’s questions, and Hayden’s eyes snapped up to meet his.

“I woke you up. How about you sit down there at the table and I make it?”Tommy suggested. He grabbed the coffee pot and walked over to the sink, filling it up with water.

Hayden obediently sat down at the table. His thoughts were sleep filled and he still felt a bit disoriented. He looked out into the gray morning and sighed, feeling like the weather fit his mood perfectly. He turned his head when he heard water pouring into the coffeemaker. He watched Tommy empty the old coffee grounds into the trash can on the wall and walk back over to the counter where he heaped large spoonfuls—six by Hayden’s count—into the coffeemaker and then clicked it closed and turned the pot on. Hayden smiled a little; it was a long time since someone had made him coffee.

Tommy looked up from what he was doing. “What?”

“Oh, nothing. I was just…daydreaming,”Hayden said, a little embarrassed from having been caught staring.

I thought the synopsis sounded intriguing and I hadn’t read anything like it before so I thought I would give it a try. Wow! I’m so glad I did. While the book is long and full of a ton of extraneous detail with so many characters I almost needed a chart, every character and detail help to mold the story. After just a few chapters I was hooked.

The author gives you enough detail and backstory so that you know the characters, you can recognize them and relate to them. The story was creative and unlike anything I have read before.

Whit by Cora RoseNew release and review!Whit by Cora Rose was my first book by her and I believe her first book. And I was really impressed. It's not easy to find a first book that I don't nit pick. But I really enjoyed it and she has been quite the prolific writer since.Caleb is the same story told from Whit's point of view. (Whit was Caleb's point of view)This is a good young adult (21ish) romance, opposites attract, gay for you, rich boy/poor boy...all the tropes. It was fun to read the story from Whit's POV. How he was really feeling about Caleb, about meeting family, about dealing with his own family, etc. And to hear how dirty his mind really was since he's so buttoned up (figuratively) to the world.I loved seeing Caleb's family just immediately accept him as part of the family. Jokes, hugs and all.If you enjoyed Whit, you'll enjoy Caleb. Same story, different perspectives.Do I need all of her books to have this companion piece? Nah. But I'm glad I revisited these guys.4 Pieces of Eye Candy ... See MoreSee Less

✨EXCERPT: CALEB by @coraroseauthor releasing April 24th! #PreOrderNowbooks2read.com/u/4En91A I shake my head, even though it is. I feel like my heart is being ripped from my body. The choice I have to make. Is it even a choice? “I…I overreacted. I’m…I’ll be fine,” I tell him, clutching at his hand and turning it to kiss that rough palm. Because I have to be fine with whatever I choose. And I don’t know if I can choose a future with him. Not after everything I’ve been through. My parents owe me for what they put me through. I’ve earned it with my blood and tears. Can I give it all up? For him? Caleb’s thumbs rub over my cheeks. “Okay.” He doesn’t sound convinced. Not that I expect him to. I’m a liar in the worst way. Selfish, thoughtless. He will never forgive me once this is over. My eyes water, and Caleb’s face crumples as he pulls me into his chest and holds me. I should never have let him be my roommate. I should have let him go about his life, never knowing me. It would have been simpler, better. But I was too greedy. Wanted him too much. And now look what I’ve done. I’m set to ruin him. I need to pull away before I do more damage. I need to end this. Soon, I tell myself. Just one more day. Let me have one more day.#mmromance #corarose The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less

So, of course I tripped over my tongue instead of asking for his number. And despite my friends’ numerous offers to help find him online, we’re too busy opening Lick It!, our new ice cream shop, to spare time for my non-existent love life. But when Jonathan walks through the door on a sunny Friday afternoon, I can’t help but feel like it’s fate. He’s shy, sweet, and we immediately click. Jonathan doesn’t have much experience with relationships, so I’m determined to give him the attention he deserves, even if it means I’m pulled in two directions. With summer heating up and the shop getting hectic, spending time together is getting harder and harder. I don’t know how to balance the long hours and being a good boyfriend, but I know I have to figure it out. Because meeting Jonathan is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. ✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up to review this awesome release: bit.ly/lickedsignup#charlienovak #mmromance #kindleunlimited The Author Agency ...
