Gays of Our Lives by Kris Ripper: New Release Book Blast and Giveaway

July 13, 2016 by Denise

GaysOfOurLives_600x900synopsisEmerson Robinette only leaves his apartment to get laid and go to work. Having MS—and trying to pretend he doesn’t—makes everything more complicated, especially his fantasies of coming on strong and holding a guy down. Finding a partner who’ll explore that with him isn’t Emerson’s idea of a realistic goal.

Until a chance meeting with a hipster on a bus makes him reconsider. Obie is happy, open-hearted, and warm; what’s more, he gets his kicks being physically dominated, spanked, and teased until he’s begging. It would be perfect, except for one thing: Emerson isn’t made for happiness, and he doesn’t see how a guy like Obie would settle for a cynic like him.

But as far as Obie’s concerned, the only thing keeping them apart is Emerson. Can Emerson handle a boyfriend who’s more invested in his future than he is? Emerson’s barely convinced he has a future. But when Obie’s smiling at him, anything seems possible.

Everyday History by Alice Archer : Guest Post

July 5, 2016 by Denise

EverydayHistory_BookCover_DSPsynopsisHeadstrong Ruben Harper has yet to meet an obstacle he can’t convert to a speed bump. He’s used to getting what he wants from girls, but when he develops a fascination for a man, his wooing skills require an upgrade. After months of persuasion, he scores a dinner date with Henry Normand that morphs into an intense weekend. The unexpected depth of their connection scares Ruben into fleeing.

Shy, cautious Henry, Ruben’s former high school history teacher, suspects he needs a wake-up call, and Ruben appears to be his siren. But when Ruben bolts, Henry is left struggling to find closure. Inspired by his conversations with Ruben, Henry begins to write articles about the memories stored in everyday objects. The articles seduce Ruben with details from their weekend together and trigger feelings too strong to avoid. As Henry’s snowballing fame takes him out of town and further out of touch, Ruben stretches to close the gaps that separate them.

Moving Everyday Objects

By Alice Archer

At the core of Everyday History is the idea that the objects we live with every day store our memories, and that sharing those stories can connect us with others. It’s really not a very revolutionary concept. So why did I latch onto it to the point of creating a novel about it?

By the time I was 15, I’d lived in 15 places. Dad had wheels instead of feet, it seemed, and when he was wanted somewhere else, off we went. He was a Southern Baptist minister (since then, he’s taken a remarkable trajectory through Presbyterianism, Unitarianism, and now sits outside with his wife on Sundays to talk about spirituality – they call it Church on the Front Porch).

Although I wasn’t conscious of it at the time, the way I stayed grounded through our many moves was by focusing on the things that didn’t change from one move to the next: my personal belongings. I could remember the places we’d left, and the experiences I’d had in those places, because of the stuff I had that I associated with them. Places came and went, but my things remained close at hand. Eventually, the place and the experience and the thing become one.

At this point, I’ve lived in more than 80 places. Man, that’s a lot of packing and unpacking. I don’t have a lot of stuff, which makes moving easier, but every piece is a major treasure and every piece has a story to tell me (like the Stickley desk I’m looking at right now, which my mom bought for $5 at a grocery store in Pencil, Arkansas, when she started teaching school). So many stories. So many places. So many experiences. So much love.

I wanted to write about that. Somehow. Even if obliquely. Everyday History is the result.

During a recent visit with my dad, I finally got around to confessing my novel-writing activities – including that I write M/M erotic romance and that I’d had an offer from a publisher. We were eating dinner at the time, and Dad set his fork on his plate with a clank and gave me a stern look. “Uh oh,” I thought. “Here comes the lecture.” But the guy surprised me – yet again (he’s 83; I should be more used to it by now).

“Honey, that should have been the very first thing you told us, as soon as you walked in the door. That’s wonderful news!” He went on to insist that he would read Everyday History when it was published. I asked if he was sure and he huffed. “I’ve been around, you know,” he said. “I’m not a prude.”

I’ve ordered a book for him (at this point, I’ll pause to send a nod of gratitude to Angel Martinez for our brief talk at GayRomLit in 2014 about her relationship with her father). It seems perfectly fitting for Dad to read this story. If he hadn’t raised me the way he did, I wouldn’t have needed to tell it.

In the following excerpt, Henry has been telling Ruben some everyday histories about his stove.

excerpt

Ruben stands up to get a better view of the stove. “Is there more? Are there more stories about this stove?” he asks.

“Yes. Many. But that’s enough.”

“Was it enough for Martin?”

Henry laughs. “You’ve just listened to several paragraphs more about this oven than Martin ever cared to know.”

Ruben thinks about how he was never jealous of guys who moved in on the women he was dating, but even the thought of Martin makes him want to punch Martin’s face a few times. The feeling is so novel Ruben’s not sure where to file it.

“Seriously?” says Ruben. “What was Martin’s problem?”

Henry sits down on a kitchen stool as though Ruben’s question added fifty pounds to his shoulders.

“I’m not sure it was Martin’s problem,” Henry says.

“Whatever it was, sum it up. You’re killing me here.”

Henry rubs his hands across his face and says on a sigh, “I think the totality of me got in the way.”

“Got in Martin’s way, you mean?”

Henry shrugs. “He wanted something else.”

“What kind of something else?”

Ruben watches Henry search for an answer. It takes a while. Ruben waits.

“I really care about my stove’s story,” Henry says. “I have a relationship with my stove that feels alive and real and important.” He plucks a potholder from a hook. “Things, the normal, everyday things in my life, are like that for me. They’re so full of the past and steeped with personal meaning that they’re like…. They’re my family.”

Ruben connects the dots. “Martin didn’t care about your family.”

Rockin’ It Forever by Morticia Knight: Blog Tour, Interview and Giveaway

June 14, 2016 by Denise

Bryan and Aubrey’s story continues in Rockin’ it Forever

Can the touch of a rock god last forever?

synopsis

Music journalist Bryan Gallagher’s life has completely changed in an unexpected way. Not only has he snagged a dream assignment as the memoirist to alternative music’s rock superstar Aubrey King, but he’s also promised to give the beautiful and enigmatic musician a chance for them to forge a relationship. It’s all very overwhelming for Bryan since, up until he spent a sexually charged day and night with Aubrey, Bryan has never even dreamed of being with a man.
Aubrey is completely smitten with the boyishly handsome, young rock writer, Bryan. After their instant spark grows into something more, Aubrey is desperate to keep Bryan by his side for always. He’s promised Bryan that their love is for real, that Bryan isn’t simply one of his rock star conquests.
Their road isn’t an easy one, though. Despite their deepening bond and growing need for each other, other factors intrude. Neither Aubrey nor Bryan is ready to come out, and their relationship needs to remain a carefully guarded secret. In addition, Aubrey has to answer to the demands of his profession and Bryan has to traverse the shifting waters between his personal and business relationship with his famous lover.
Then a secret is revealed and everything in their joint world implodes. When a love is so strong that two men can barely take a breath without thinking of the other, will that be enough to bridge the loss of trust? The only way they can rock their love forever is if Aubrey can reach Bryan before it’s too late.

Early response to Rockin’ it Forever…

“This book has it all: rocker musicians, incredible sexual chemistry, struggles with being in the closet, doubts regarding the relationship, intense feelings, and the amazing HEA with a forever kind of love.”

Thank you to Morticia Knight for stopping by for a little Q&A!!!
tco-author interview

Morticia Knight Author Q&A Part I

Where are you from, and where do you call home?

I’m originally from the Los Angeles area – specifically the San Fernando Valley. Yes. I am a valley girl. Deal with it.

I escaped L.A. and now live on the northern coast of Oregon with raging wind and rainstorms and very loud, barking sea lions. I make the sea lions stay on the pier though, they’re not allowed inside.

What inspired you to start writing?

Crushing loneliness. I think I was five at the time. Both of my parents worked long hours, and I was essentially an only child because my brother and sister are so much older than me. Making up stories and worlds and other people was a great way for me to spend my time. And I don’t even hear the voices in my head anymore! *snort*

How long have you been writing?

Well, I guess the standard answer is all my life, but to be specific, I started seriously pursuing it when I was twelve. As in, the other kids thought I was a freak. I wrote all the time during class (I had my trusty spiral notebook wherever I went), but after they were done making fun of me, and class got reaaaallly boring, they became curious enough to ask me to read to them out loud. Soon I had them bugging me to finish the next chapter.

So, things started out promising, but sadly, I was turned down by one of the Big Six (back when there were still six of them) I was fourteen by then, so it was one of those devastating teen moments that you don’t bounce back from easily. In other words, I was completely delusional. Then I decided to pursue something much more likely to bring me success – the world of rock and roll. My profession for the next fifteen years was as a singer/song-writer.

Once I Ieft the music industry (and anyone who reads either of the Rockin’ books will get some insight as to why!) I turned my sights back on writing. I had to force myself to no longer write in rhyme, so there was a learning curve there. So, I’ve been writing fiction again since 2011, but for ten years prior to that, I was writing music bios, press releases, reviews and articles for entertainment mags. I was also the ‘as told to’ author on one music writer and one rock guitarist’s autobiographies.

One final side note: The song lyrics from both of the Rockin’ books are ones that I performed and recorded *wink*

What advice would you give a new writer just starting out?

I always say the same thing when asked this question: write as much as you can. Write every day or as often as humanly possible. Make your muse your bitch. Don’t let her call the shots. Even if you don’t feel like writing, do it anyway. Even if its total crap and you hate it, keep going. Because writing is like any other skill – the more you practice, the better you’ll get at it.

excerpt

Aubrey Fucking King.

Bryan hid what he was certain would be a goofy grin behind his fingers. He didn’t need the older woman in the seat next to him on the plane to think he’d lost his entire mind. But the mutual masturbation with Aubrey in the shower that morning was emblazoned in his memory. Their inability to keep their hands off each other had left Bryan with precious little time to get to his hotel, grab his things then make it to the airport without missing his flight. Being trapped on the airplane for his journey from the west to the east coast was the first chance he’d had to relax and dwell on the previous couple of days filled with utter craziness. However, his immediate thoughts had landed on the visual of their slickened cocks rubbing together.

It was difficult to decide which event had him more thrilled, confused, elated, freaked out or stunned—that he’d had sex with his rock star idol or that he’d had sex with a man. He shook his head, unable to help himself.

“I’m sorry, but it’s inflight rules.”

Bryan jerked his chin up. “Huh?”

The flight attendant pointed at his laptop. “I said, you need to stow that for takeoff.”

“Oh! Sorry, I…uh, of course.”

His cheeks heated as if the pretty blonde attendant had any idea what sort of filthy thoughts had been drifting through his mind. She was the sort of woman he’d always been drawn to—confident, attractive, feminine. Another thought tried to wriggle its way into his ponderings, but he preferred putting it off for the time being. Everything had been so heated, so urgent between him and Aubrey—it had barely allowed him a moment to process the emerging lust and connection they now shared.

That was all real, right?

He idly played with the collar of his long-sleeved cotton shirt that was made up of a block plaid pattern in varying shades of blues and greens. Aubrey had commented on the colors, had said he liked the way Bryan’s lighter hair and deep blue eyes contrasted with them. Bryan allowed his fingers to travel under the fabric, to run across his clavicle. He couldn’t feel it—feel them—but he knew they were there. The marks Aubrey had sucked up on his skin. Then there’d been the rather prominent one Aubrey had asked Bryan to put on him so that everyone would know that Bryan was the one to whom Aubrey belonged.

It was silly, really, but it’d also been very sweet. People might surmise that Aubrey had been with someone, but they would have no idea it was rock journalist Bryan Gallagher. Bryan attempted to tamp down yet another unsettling thought and realized he was going to run out of space to hide from everything in his mind in an awfully short time.

No one will know because Aubrey won’t tell anyone he was with a man. But then again, neither will I.
deanna review

I was interested in seeing where this book went after reading the prequel, Rockin the Alternative. I did enjoy this book so much more than the first and I think that was because the book was longer with so much more detail.

At the end of the first book Aubrey and Bryan decide to give a relationship a try while writing Aubrey’s memoirs. Bryan is fumbling through his first relationship with a man and Aubrey is trying hard not to be a diva and rush Bryan.

The two start out strong learning new things about each other and learning to work and live with each other. They battle through having a private relationship versus the image they reveal to the public. Bryan has yet to tell his family about Aubrey and Aubrey hasn’t revealed himself to the world yet.

Someone from Aubrey’s past shows up threatening their new relationship. Aubrey has to decide if he can trust Bryan with his secret, by the time he makes that decision it may be too late.

If you could take the prequel novella and this one and smoosh them together you would have a great story. I definitely felt a stronger connection between the characters that wasn’t there in the first book.

The story was entertaining and interesting. I would love a follow up novel with Jimmy’s story, he made a great supporting character. I enjoyed the music in the book, the lyrics Aubrey wrote for Bryan were awesome.

excerpt

They found a secluded spot to sit off the main drag and scarfed down pieces of pizza and people-watched. Aaron had been full of nerves earlier, but Lucky put him at ease. He had that way about him.

“I’ve got a few minutes left,” Lucky said when they finished their food.

They got up, sipping at their drinks as they made their way through the crowd back toward Lucky’s booth. It was now or never. He had to ask, had to get the words out, or miss his shot.

“Can I ask you something?” Lucky spoke up before Aaron could. Maybe Lucky would… Aaron held his breath, nodding. “It might sound weird.”

“Sure,” Aaron replied, his heart beating a little faster. He had no idea what was coming now; what could Lucky possibly want from him? A kiss?

“Can you take your picture for me?”

Aaron blinked at him. Lucky tilted his head off to one side and Aaron turned his head the same direction. His gaze landed on a photo booth, realization sinking in. His mouth fell open, unsure what to say. It was a little weird because they barely knew each other, but also flattering.

“I’d really like to draw you again.” Lucky seemed slightly embarrassed. “I mean, I could take pictures on my phone if that’s better for you, but that seemed creepier somehow.”

Aaron couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped at Lucky’s words, even as the idea of Lucky drawing him again and again left him breathless. “Um,” he managed to get out, glancing around at the crowd. A familiar blonde head caught his eye and he nearly choked.960x350 (2)

Was Lyn at the carnival? Wasn’t she supposed to be with their mothers?

Aaron pulled Lucky by the hand into the photo booth and slid the curtain shut.

Lucky slid money into the slot as they sat down. His breath caught as Lucky’s hands touched his face gently. “Like this,” Lucky whispered, turning his head to the side. The camera flashed. Lucky’s fingers turned his head to the front, pulling away just in time for the camera to go off again. Once again, Lucky’s fingers turned his head to the side, only now he was facing Lucky, staring deeply into his eyes.

Aaron tried not to hyperventilate as he held Lucky’s gaze. The camera flashed for the last time but neither of them moved.

“Go out with me?” Aaron suddenly blurted out. He had to do something or he might do something even more insane, like kiss Lucky. Aaron so wasn’t ready for that yet. Lucky’s eyes widened and he smiled.

“Sure,” Lucky drawled after a moment. “When?”

 tco-author interview

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Kitty Stephens, author of Set Me Free.

Hi Kitty, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

My name Kitty Stephens. I currently reside in Ohio, with my husband, my son, and our three guinea pigs. I’ve been an avid reader since I was very young and started writing when I was around nine or ten. Once I had internet access, I became active in fan communities and started posting my work on various fan sites. Set Me Free is my first book.

  • Do you pay attention to literary criticism? If so, how do you handle it? I do, but only if it’s constructive. Otherwise it will just get you down and impact your writing.
  • How do you come up with your titles? I try to find a theme in the story and come up with something that reflects it the best I can.
  • What new authors have grasped your interest? I’ve just discovered the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.
  • What is the hardest part about writing? Finding the time to write! It’s so difficult sometimes, with everything else going on. It’s most frustrating when you get into a groove and can’t keep working on it.
  • Name your four most important food groups. Chocolate, pizza, salt, and fat! All of my favorites.

What About Now by Grace R. Duncan: Guest Post, Review and Giveaway

May 12, 2016 by Denise

WhatAboutNowFS

synopsis

Five years ago, everything went wrong. Braden Kirk and Rafe Jessen’s long-term relationship started unraveling. They stopped talking, fears mounted, then Braden walked in on Rafe and another man, completely misreading the situation. Without giving Rafe a chance to explain, Braden walks out. Out of their home, their relationship, and the game development company they started together in college.

After months of therapy to deal with the attempted rape Braden walked in on, Rafe begins to understand that his dominant tendencies in the bedroom aren’t a bad thing and that Braden’s submission is likely what scared his partner into silence. But Rafe isn’t ready to let go of the man he loves more than life itself. He arranges for himself and Braden to end up on the same charity cruise, knowing Braden won’t let his phobia—terror of vast, deep waters—rule him.

With a plan and twenty-eight days, Rafe is determined to get Braden back, make him see there’s nothing wrong with being submissive, and find a way to get Braden to stay with him when they get home to LA.

Today stop is the eighth on our cruise and sees our couple in Moorea, Polynesia. Let’s see what the boys got up to…

excerpt

Rafe looked up, realizing they’d goofed somehow and ended up on the deck on the outside of the ship. “Oops, wrong turn.” He spun on his heel and hurried back in before Braden could see where they were, but it was too late.

Rafe turned around again to see Braden standing frozen, facing the railing. Rafe knew what he was seeing: miles and miles of incredibly deep water. There were tiny islands in the distance, but they wouldn’t be enough to distract Braden. He wouldn’t even see them. All his brain would register was the water he feared.

Stepping closer to Braden, he touched a shoulder. Terror poured off Braden in waves. Tremors rolled through him, and his skin had turned ghostly under his tan. “Braden, baby,” Rafe said, tugging on him, but he wouldn’t move. “Braden?” Rafe shook Braden’s shoulder, but he didn’t react except to shake harder, his breath coming in panicked pants, eyes still fixed on the water. “Braden! Come on, turn around,” Rafe said, pulling a little harder on Braden’s arm.

When Braden still didn’t respond, Rafe considered whether to just pick him up. But then he wondered if something else might help. He figured it might cause less trouble than if he carried Braden back into the ship like a damsel in distress. That was almost guaranteed to piss Braden off—at himself—but by then, the damage would be done.

Instead, he dropped his voice and leaned in a little closer. “Boy, look at me!” He put every bit of the Dom in him into the words.

Braden’s head whipped around, and he immediately dropped his eyes to Rafe’s collar.

That was better, but his breathing was still too fast for Rafe’s liking. “Focus on me, boy. Only me. Who am I?”

“Sir,” Braden croaked.

Rafe ran his hands up and down Braden’s arms. “That’s it. Good, boy. Breathe with me,” he said, cupping Braden’s face with his palms. “Look up at me, boy, and breathe with me.”

Braden eyes snapped up to meet Rafe’s, and Rafe took a slow, deep breath, thrilled when Braden matched it. “Good, boy. Another.” It took several more before Braden’s muscles unlocked and he slumped into Rafe’s arms. “I’ve got you,” Rafe murmured, rubbing Braden’s back as Braden shook in his arms.

Another few moments passed, and finally Braden straightened. “I’m sorry, Sir,” he muttered, gaze somewhere around Rafe’s sternum.

That was interesting. He hadn’t expected Braden to stay in the sub mindset. Since their scene before Papeete, they’d talked about what they’d done, as well as Braden’s preferences, but they hadn’t played beyond him lightly dominating Braden in bed. Braden hadn’t called him “Sir” likely because he hadn’t used “boy” since that time at bingo. Rafe wasn’t sure how far to push with Braden, so he’d kept it light.

He wasn’t quite sure what to do with this. Did he keep up the D/s for a while until Braden changed things? Or did he try to get Braden out of it now?

He decided it would probably only make things harder on Braden if he made too big a deal out of it. Instead, he pulled Braden into his arms again and murmured in his ear. “I think I’d like to eat dinner in the suite tonight. Perhaps with you naked at my feet and eating from my hand.”

Braden’s breath stuttered, but he murmured, “Yes, Sir.” He hesitated briefly, eyes darting to Rafe’s face, then back down, and Rafe knew Braden was well aware of what he was saying. “Please, Sir.”

Rafe let the breath of relief out slowly. He’d talk to Braden about it later, but he didn’t need to let Braden know right then just how unsure he’d been. Braden needed strength. “Good. Let’s go, boy.” He stepped back, took Braden’s hand, and they moved toward the elevators. The slightest of tremors were still going through Braden, which Rafe tried to counter by squeezing the shaking hand gently. He kept an eye on Braden, but aside from the minor tremble, he seemed to be holding together okay.

When the elevator doors closed, Rafe turned to Braden. “What are your safewords, boy?”

“Strawberry and banana, Sir,” Braden replied, clearer than Rafe expected. He didn’t want to push Braden, who was obviously needing this now, but at the same time, he needed to make sure Braden knew he could stop it. He probably should have stopped it, himself, and talked to Braden, but he still wasn’t sure that was the best course of action. In all the times he’d helped Braden through his phobia, it had neither been this serious, nor involved D/s.

Rafe took another slow breath, pushing that aside for later. He wouldn’t harm Braden by doing this, and in the end, that was what mattered. “Very good, boy. When we get into the room, you’ll strip and put your clothes away. Then take two of the bed pillows and pile them on the floor by the table.”

“Yes, Sir.”

Thanks for reading! Remember to keep up with the whole cruise for a chance to win at each stop. And each entry will give you an opportunity to be entered to win one of the three big prizes!

denise review

I normally do not read books about second chance love. Not because I avoid them-although I will admit I have because quite often they are too angsty for me, but more because I always have a hard time figuring out why their love didn’t work out in the first place. What makes someone give up and just walk away?

But when I read the blurb on this it was very clear what caused the split (although finding out later there was more to it, of course), and I thought “Oh, a BDSM, which I love, and they are in a situation they can’t get out of” and I jumped on it. Boy, was I wrong…in a good way. 🙂

What you find as you go through the book is that what really caused their separation was lack of communication. They simply stopped talking to each other. We never really find out why Braden stopped talking, other than he had listened to his stupid friend Paul, but since they are men, often that in itself is enough to keep from communicating.

Braden, once he goes through counseling for the attempted rape, and finds that he is a Dom, he knows that he needs to not only get Braden back, but help him to realize that his is a sub. That in itself is an undertaking, since Braden really has no concept of what BDSM entails, other than the always thought of whips and chains.

Braden’s plan was actually fairly well thought out…start easy, friends, move to lovers, and then hope that since Braden is in love with him still that they will be able to find a way to move forward with what he felt would be necessary to both of them, a BDSM relationship. I enjoyed watching how he worked through each stage, realizing that things may not go as planned, and working through how to fix it from there.

Hella hot scenes, both without and with the BDSM. The author was able to realistically portray an entry into BDSM. Nothing is more frustrating than reading a BDSM book and finding that one of the two is new and the other just jumps in and “shows them what BDSM is”. No. Just no. Show people that they need to read on it, work through limits, have discussions, and consent before anything is done. (There is a scene where that somewhat crosses the line, but as they had had a previous relationship of unspoken domination, I didn’t find it uncomfortable.)

When all was said and done, I liked the flow in Rafe’s plan, and how he put it into place. I’d hoped to see a bit more progression in Braden’s communication, but since he had been stagnant in his life while they were not together, it isn’t surprising that he hadn’t. I would hope that after the defining incident towards the end that there would be help for him, just as Rafe was able to find help for himself.

After I was done, I went back and looked, because there were two characters who showed up on the cruise, helping Braden realize he needed to open his eyes, and with the relationship, I assumed it was from a previous book, and it was! So, I will be heading back and reading Beautiful Boy, and finding out how Mal and Kyle end up together. 🙂

Learning to Love by Felice Stevens : Blog Tour, 5 star Review, Excerpt and Giveaway

LEARNING TO LOVE
by Felice Stevens
Released May 2nd, 2016

synopsis

After ten years away from home, bad boy caterer Gideon Marks has a lot to prove. Getting the holiday catering job at his childhood synagogue is the first step in demonstrating to everyone he didn’t turn out to be the failure they predicted. What he doesn’t count on is Rabbi Jonah Fine, his high school nemesis and secret crush, stirring up old feelings Gideon thought long gone and secrets he’s buried deep for years.

An unexpectedly passionate encounter shocks Gideon, but he pushes Jonah away, convinced he isn’t good enough to be in a relationship and would never be accepted by Jonah’s father. But Jonah hangs tough—he won’t allow Gideon to hide or run away from life again. And when it comes to love, Gideon learns the most important lessons aren’t always taught in school.

 deanna review

I read a shorter version of this book as part of a holiday anthology and loved it, so I was really excited when Felice said she was going to expand on it. I don’t know how it’s possible but she managed to make this story even more beautiful.

Gideon, a dyslexic man who has fought for everything he has in life put himself thru culinary school and returns to New York with his business partner Rico to open “The Garden of Eat-In.” Gideon wants to prove to everyone from his past, including the perfect son of the Rabbi, Jonah that he has made something of himself. Gideon doesn’t count on the sparks flying when he sets eyes on Jonah again after all these years. To make matters worse, Jonah isn’t the arrogant spoiled boy he remembers from his past.

Jonah is determined that Gideon is going to give him a chance, but Gideon is used to keeping everyone at arms length. No one but his business partner knows of his disability and he plans to keep it that way. When Jonah pushes to get closer to Gideon, Gideon pulls away, often with cold, cutting remarks. Jonah quickly realizes that this is Gideon’s only defense against a cruel world he faced alone so he doesn’t give up.

Jonah and Gideon start spending more and more time together and quickly Gideon’s defenses start to crumble. After a date gone horribly wrong Gideon comes clean to Jonah about his disability, thinking that it would be the end of the relationship, but Jonah surprises him. Jonah has been waiting for Gideon for longer than he would dare admit and wasn’t about to let Gideon go for anything.

After a few mis-steps and a health scare with Jonah’s dad, Gideon has to admit to himself and Jonah how much he has come to mean to him. It will take Jonah’s persistence and undying love to convince Gideon that it’s real and that he’s in it for forever.

I love that even though Gideon felt he was weak and less than because of his disability, he never came across that way. He was a strong, confident business owner that wasn’t defined by his disability.

I loved that Jonah loved him with his whole heart regardless of the dyslexia. Seeing a young Gideon through Jonah’s eyes just showed how much and for how long he has loved Gideon.

This book made me feel so much. It’s definitely going on the permanent re-read list.

excerpt

“How did you know where to find me?”

“I didn’t. But when I went to your apartment and discovered you weren’t home, I thought to myself, ‘Where would a chef be early on Saturday morning?’”

Pleased he’d thought so carefully about me, I bit my lip to keep from smiling, then muttered with my head down, “Lucky guess on your part.”

“I’d like to think so,” said Jonah, his voice as soft as the breeze. My eyes met his, the hurt from our last conversation shimmering bright in their depths, causing a throb within me of a longing I’d never known existed. “Or maybe it was fate.”

He smiled then plucked the paper bag of rugelach out of my clutches, rummaged through it until he found an apricot one, and bit off half.

“Well, if you’re that hungry, I guess you can come home with me, and I’ll make you an omelet,” I grumbled but couldn’t stop the small grin tugging at my lips. “But I planned on browsing a bit more through the market first.”

“I’d like that.” Jonah walked beside me, and we meandered past the stands piled high with colorful peppers and squash. We strolled in silence, but every few steps I’d sneak a glance at him, expecting Jonah to speak. Instead he remained irritatingly, cheerfully silent.

I sampled some hot mulled cider and licked my lips. Spending so much time with Jonah gave me new insight. I’d always thought him superior and judgmental; perhaps I had been wrong in my assessment. He captivated me with the humor in his speech, warmth in his smile, and that unmistakable flare of desire in his eyes. Goddamn it, I wanted him.

I extended the paper cup. “Do you want a sip?” Its heady cinnamon scent remained one of my most favorite things about the fall season. To my shock, instead of answering me, he bent down and kissed me on my lips, lapping at their sticky sweetness. He stepped back, but I put a restraining hand on his wrist.

“What’s going on? Why are you really here?”

The honesty in Jonah’s face took my breath away.

“Do you really have to ask, after the last time?”

My body refused to listen to the war inside my head, kindling a deep need I couldn’t understand. I took a step forward, but unlike me, Jonah didn’t retreat. He stood firm, and I stood close enough to almost touch. Close enough to smell him.

“I’m not who you want; can’t you see that?”

“You don’t have any idea what I see when I look at you, Gideon.”

I wanted to yell back at him, No, you have no idea who I am, but I couldn’t bring myself to ruin the moment. I had no clue who Jonah thought I was, but I wanted to be that man if only to be able to have him always look at me like this. Like I was special. Like I was his. The sun beat hot upon my shoulders, and I held his gaze while contentment poured over me like a warm summer rain.

I have always been a romantic at heart. I believe that while life is
tough, there is always a happy ending around the corner. My character have to
work for it, however. Like life in NYC, nothing comes easy and that includes
love.

I live in New York City with my husband and two children. My day begins with a
lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. I practice law but
daydream of a time when I can sit by a beach somewhere and write beautiful
stories of men falling in love. Although there is bound to be a little angst along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.

Whit by Cora RoseNew release and review!Whit by Cora Rose was my first book by her and I believe her first book. And I was really impressed. It's not easy to find a first book that I don't nit pick. But I really enjoyed it and she has been quite the prolific writer since.Caleb is the same story told from Whit's point of view. (Whit was Caleb's point of view)This is a good young adult (21ish) romance, opposites attract, gay for you, rich boy/poor boy...all the tropes. It was fun to read the story from Whit's POV. How he was really feeling about Caleb, about meeting family, about dealing with his own family, etc. And to hear how dirty his mind really was since he's so buttoned up (figuratively) to the world.I loved seeing Caleb's family just immediately accept him as part of the family. Jokes, hugs and all.If you enjoyed Whit, you'll enjoy Caleb. Same story, different perspectives.Do I need all of her books to have this companion piece? Nah. But I'm glad I revisited these guys.4 Pieces of Eye Candy ... See MoreSee Less

✨EXCERPT: CALEB by @coraroseauthor releasing April 24th! #PreOrderNowbooks2read.com/u/4En91A I shake my head, even though it is. I feel like my heart is being ripped from my body. The choice I have to make. Is it even a choice? “I…I overreacted. I’m…I’ll be fine,” I tell him, clutching at his hand and turning it to kiss that rough palm. Because I have to be fine with whatever I choose. And I don’t know if I can choose a future with him. Not after everything I’ve been through. My parents owe me for what they put me through. I’ve earned it with my blood and tears. Can I give it all up? For him? Caleb’s thumbs rub over my cheeks. “Okay.” He doesn’t sound convinced. Not that I expect him to. I’m a liar in the worst way. Selfish, thoughtless. He will never forgive me once this is over. My eyes water, and Caleb’s face crumples as he pulls me into his chest and holds me. I should never have let him be my roommate. I should have let him go about his life, never knowing me. It would have been simpler, better. But I was too greedy. Wanted him too much. And now look what I’ve done. I’m set to ruin him. I need to pull away before I do more damage. I need to end this. Soon, I tell myself. Just one more day. Let me have one more day.#mmromance #corarose The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less
