“Who is he?” Nihal asked. He had never had a great interest in politics. If they looked like this specimen, he might have to change his ways.

“He’s my MP,” Bee replied. “One of us. Really nice guy. Paula went to him for help about them closing the mother and baby unit, and he got stuck in. Saved it too. He would be the dream to win. It will never happen though. He’s far too decent. Paula said he was sweet too. Makes you want to vomit, doesn’t it?”

Paula was Bee’s wife and always had a cause on the go. She made a real difference with them too. Something Nihal admired her for. It beat launching crap products that people didn’t need.

“Right. I’ll get the coffees,” Bee said, dusting off the crumbs from their shirt. “Can we grab five minutes to talk about the next month?”

Nihal couldn’t take his eyes off the man on the screen. This guy had something special about him. Of course, he was absolutely gorgeous, but that didn’t set him apart though. It went deeper than that. As photographers jostled him, he seemed lost amongst it all. He needed help and Nihal was more than happy to oblige.

“When you get a chance, give Mr Carrington’s assistant a call,” Nihal said. “Can’t hurt to see if he wants any PR representation.”

Bee nodded. “Sure thing.”

They left the office and Nihal caught Jeff’s amused expression. “What?”

“You’re as transparent as shrink wrap, Nihal Varma. He’s not your usual type though. Will you be able to cope with someone who has more between their ears than their legs?”

“Maybe I’m ready for a change.”

I have written for as long as I could write. In fact, before, when I would dictate to my auntie. I love to read, and I love to create worlds and characters.

I live in the English countryside. When I’m not writing, I like to get out there and think through the next scenario I’m going to throw my characters into.

Inspiration can be found anywhere, on a train, in a restaurant or in an office. I am always in search of the next character to find love in one of my stories. In a world of apps and online dating, it is important to remember love can be found when you least expect it.

Every greedy pass discovered something new. Perfectly sculpted abs, a tiny scar on his right hip. Rory was smooth everywhere. Ivan forced his gaze up to meet Rory’s. He arched a dark brow and tilted his head toward the bathroom in invitation. God, how easy it would be to close themselves inside and give in to their attraction. Somehow, Ivan found the will to shake his head, even if the words wouldn’t form on his tongue.

“Seems to me not everyone agrees,” Rory said, gesturing toward Ivan’s crotch. “You make it so hard for me to behave, even though I promised myself I would.”

Ivan looked down to see his thick erection jutting through the opening in his boxers. If he reached down to tuck it away, he feared he might start stroking it instead. Fuck, he needed to…fuck. “I’ll see you at breakfast,” Ivan said as he picked up his towel from the floor and stepped into the bathroom.

“Or you could let me watch you jerk off.”

Ivan slammed the door. “No.”

“Okay, what if I stay out here, and you just narrate your actions through the door?”

Ivan ignored him and turned on the shower. He would not give Rory the satisfaction of knowing he was jerking off, so he kept the water cold and his shower short.

“Guys… guys… Guys!” I had to shout to get their attention. “I’m leaving. I’m just going to pretend this never happened and finish up my day back at the office.”

Ashton moved toward me. “Bailey, wait. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have… I don’t know what came over me. It’s the meds, they’re really messing with—”

“Ashton, forget it.” I picked up my laptop and stepped beyond his reach. “I’ll get the spreadsheets finished and email it to you both, then work on the comps list to present to Rudenko so we can get a fair idea on the price guide.”

“Bailey, don’t you want to talk this through?” said Jax.

“God, no. All I want to do now is throw myself into this project. That’s the focus, right?”

I picked up several folders, tucked them under my arm along with my laptop, and headed straight for the door. “I’ll see you both in the morning. I think. Maybe. We’ll see.”

“Bailey!” Ashton and Jax both beckoned to me at the same time.

But red-faced and sore-assed, I was already out the door.. .

“You should get some sleep, sweetie,” Dusty says softly and spoons up behind me.

I let out a little hum of contentment as she starts to sing. Unlike when she’s trying to force me into doing something she wants and belts her way through chorus after chorus of West End hits, eighties chart-toppers, and sixties classics, this time she quietly croons the Mamas and the Papas’ version of Dream a Little Dream of Me to me.

Dusty’s comforting voice and the patter of the rain, mix with Jacob Marley’s rusty-old-tractor purr to wrap around me and I find myself slipping easily into sleep under her touch.

It was approaching midnight by the time he padded over Lloyd’s lawn. He cursed under his breath when he remembered he’d left his phone in MacDonald’s car.

Remembering that Lloyd had mentioned the view from his desk overlooking the street, Wesley hunted for bits of gravel and tossed them against Lloyd’s upstairs window.

It clinked and clattered, and he grinned.

He’d always wanted to do this.

Someone cleared their throat, and Wesley jerked toward Lloyd, shuffling across the grass in slippers and a robe.

Lloyd shut the door behind them, and after removing his shoes and jacket, Wesley followed him upstairs.

“Love the look, by the way,” Wesley whispered, tugging Lloyd’s robe belt. “It’s like a flash-forward into the future. You’re the grumpy old codger who loves telling off kids for making too much noise—oh wait.”

Wesley eyed Lloyd up and down by the dim light of the hall. “Maybe it isn’t a flash-forward.”

“You’re right. I won’t be like this in sixty years.”

“What will you be like?” “Grumpier.” Lloyd flicked a light on and gestured Wesley inside his surprisingly cluttered childhood room. Shelves lined an entire wall stuffed with books, board games, and more than one Rubik’s cube. Then there was the bed.

“A twin, Lloyd? We’ll sure be cozy tonight.” Without looking away from him, Lloyd pulled out a rollaway mattress from under the bed using his foot.

“Top or bottom?”

“I’m happy with either,” he said with a leer, “but I’d prefer to bottom.”

Lloyd shut his eyes. “Boy, oh boy.”

Wesley smirked and peeled off his clothes until he was down to his boxers and undershirt.

Avoiding eye contact, Lloyd grabbed him a blanket, then unrobed to a similar state of undress and flicked off the light. “I assume you didn’t come here to sleep.”

“Not quite the proposition I imagined from you, Lloyd.”

A pillow smacked Wesley in the face. He laughed as he settled onto the rollaway and stuffed Lloyd’s pillow under his head.

Glow-in-the-dark stars covered the ceiling, possibly arranged in constellations. “Guess I’m not the only one obsessed with stars.”

Lloyd rolled onto his side and peered down at Wesley. “Why are you here at midnight?”

“Hoping you might sleep-divulge your date of birth?”

“Wesley.”“I told my mom I’m quitting college once I get my undergrad.”

“Because of our conversation?”

“It didn’t come out of thin air.”

“How did you feel when you said it?”

“Guilty, then relieved. Now nervous.” Wesley bit his lip. “As my RA, do you think I’m doing the right thing?”

At the mention of RA, Lloyd folded back an inch. “Let’s arrange a date and work through some options for you.”

“I’m not good at making decisions. I’m inconsistent and terribly indecisive.”

“I’ve noticed.”

“I’m pretty screwbally.”

“Yet I like you all the same.”
