Only for Ollie by Lisa Henry: RB, Exclusive Excerpt, and Giveaway

March 5, 2022 by Denise

Xander Finch is a top-ranked MotoGP rider, desperate to get back to the circuit after an injury. He’s going stir-crazy in his parents’ house in Ventura while he works on his recovery. Xander has tunnel vision when it comes to his sport—it’s all he’s ever wanted to do in life. When he hires a massage therapist to help speed up his recovery, he’s not expecting the guy to completely flip his universe on its head.

Ollie Baker is living in his car after a disastrous break-up, and jumps at the chance to earn some extra cash through massage. Xander Finch might be hot as hell, but Ollie’s not going there. He’s never going to let some rich guy screw him over again. Besides, Xander’s straight. Isn’t he?

When their friendship deepens into something more, Xander discovers that Ollie makes him feel a way that nobody ever has before, and maybe motorbikes aren’t his only passion after all. Navigating Xander’s newly discovered demisexuality isn’t the only challenge they’ll have to face if they’re going to be together, because Ollie’s been burned before. It’s hard for him to trust Xander, to believe that he’s really willing to make room in his life for Ollie as well as his racing—assuming he recovers enough to race at all.

Only for Ollie is the third book in the Star Crossed series, where regular guys meet famous ones, and sparks fly.

Ollie waved off Xander’s protestations and loaded the dishwasher. Then he said, bending down with his back to him, “So you’re going back to the Netherlands?”

“That’s how it works.” His chest ached. “I race, and when I’m not racing, I go back to Assen, and I train.”

That was how it had always worked. Not with all the guys, maybe, because most of them had made space for partners and kids in the gaps in their lives between track time, but Xander had only ever filled that space with more training. He was the engineers’ darling. If they needed a rider to test drive something, he was their guy because he was always at the track, always learning, always striving to be better. There were rules in place that limited the riders’ time on their race bikes, but Allard had a dirt track where their guys could practice on different bikes, and he was there as often as he could be—it was the reason he’d moved to Assen. The dirt track reminded him of the motocross tracks he’d loved so much as a kid, except there were no jumps.

Ollie stood up and turned to face him, leaning against the kitchen counter. He took his glasses off and cleaned them with the hem of his T-shirt, the movement allowing tantalizing glimpses of the pale skin above the waistband of his jeans. He put the glasses back on. “Your dad isn’t very happy about it.”

“They don’t like that it’s dangerous,” he said. He didn’t want to talk about how his dad felt about his return to racing. He wanted to know how Ollie felt about it. He wanted to know what they were to each other, or could be. “What you said earlier, about not thinking I was gay.”

Ollie froze, staring at him like a meerkat.

“I’m not,” he said. “At least…shit, I don’t know. There’s a lot of different words, you know?”

Ollie’s startled look said that no, he very much did not know what the fuck was he talking about.

“I’m demi,” he said. “That’s what fits, I think. So I’m not attracted to random people, you know?” He scrubbed a hand over his head, his face burning. “Except I didn’t figure it out until really recently because I literally had no idea what I was missing.”

Ollie’s throat bobbed as he swallowed. “Until?”

He winced. “I don’t want to be a creep, Ollie.”

Ollie closed the distance between them and stood on the other side of the counter to Xander. He planted his hands on the granite, his fingers splayed. The index finger of his right hand almost brushed Xander’s left. “Until?”

He lifted his gaze and lost himself for a moment in those wide, dark eyes. “Until you.”

Ollie’s intake of breath cut through the air as sharply as a knife. And then, just when Xander thought he’d ruined everything, Ollie twitched his finger so that it rested against his. “You’re not a creep, Xander.”

His eyes stung and watered. He looked down to where Ollie’s finger pressed gently against his own. Ollie had beautiful hands. “You don’t have to leave. I’ll be going soon, so it doesn’t have to be uncomfortable here for you. I—”

“Xander.” Ollie’s eyes were bright. He curled his fingers around Xander’s hand and drew it upwards. Leaned in and pressed his mouth to his knuckles, and that faint, warm brush of his lips sparked electricity inside him, sharp and brilliant and burning in a million different arcs. The blood roared in his skull as Ollie smiled and kissed his knuckles again. “Shut up. You don’t make me uncomfortable. I like you, Xander.”

And then, as though he was making sure that Xander couldn’t misinterpret that, he turned his hand over in his grasp, uncurled his fingers as carefully as if he were unwrapping a fragile treasure, and pressed another warm, smiling kiss to the fleshy part of his palm.

Xander’s heart stuttered over a few beats before it remembered how to do its job.

Another moment, and this was a big one. He would remember this one for the rest of his life because this was the precise moment when he fell head over heels for Ollie.

Catch-up on the series with Book 1:
Not Until Noah

Carter Westlake is on the brink of being Hollywood gold. Cast as the lead in a highly-anticipated sci-fi trilogy filming in Australia, he’s primed to be the next A-list action hero: all-American, hot as hell, and straight. The problem is, Carter can only check off two of those boxes. But that’s okay—his bisexuality can remain a secret until these movies are behind him.

Childhood educator Noah Jones has a plan. Work as a nanny for six months, make some extra cash, and move to the UK to teach. He doesn’t expect his new boss to be a Hollywood star. And he certainly isn’t prepared to fall for the guy.

One kiss sends them tumbling into a secret relationship, even though they both agree it can be nothing more than a fling. Carter needs to stay in the closet for the sake of his career, and Noah’s leaving. But when their feelings continue to grow into something deeper, Carter has a decision to make. Knowing that exposing his sexuality could cost him his career, would he rather carry on living a lie, or risk it all to stand tall in his truth?

Not Until Noah is the first book in the Star Crossed series, where regular guys meet famous ones, and sparks fly.

Honeymoon Ever After by Ariella Zoelle: Blog Tour, Exclusive Excerpt and Giveaway

February 28, 2022 by Denise

Rory’s never been attracted to a man before, but Kieran changes everything from the first moment they meet. Will he be able to embrace his unexpected feelings for the Hollywood celebrity?

Rory Kinsella

My new life plan is going great:

  1. Dump my awful fiancée who was in love with her best friend and not me? Done.
  2. Celebrate my newfound freedom and happiness by going on a solo “me-moon” honeymoon? Great, that should be awesome.
  3. Fall in love with a famous Hollywood action hero when I’m straight? Wait, what?!

Besides being absurdly handsome and incredibly charismatic, Kieran looks at me with his magnetic and captivating green eyes in a magical way that makes me feel like I’m the only person in the world that matters. But is that really enough to make me forget that I’m normally attracted to women?

Apparently, the answer is “Yes!” However, it’s not only his gorgeous good-looks that sway me into switching teams. No, what really makes him tempting is something much deeper than that. How can an academic nerd like me resist someone as sweet as a man who wears TARDIS pajamas and wants to shower me with all the love my ex-fiancée never gave me?

Kieran Aiello

My hide out from the paparazzi “vacation” plans:

  1. Go to Sweden to escape from a scandal? Easy, I can do that.
  2. Stay in my hotel room without leaving for any reason per my manager’s orders? Yeah, that’s not happening.
  3. Find a hot Swede to hook up with in a sauna? Definitely doable.

But things take a surprising turn when I accidentally run into Rory instead, a cute grad student who actually sees the real me that most people don’t believe is hidden under all my Hollywood muscles. He wasn’t part of my original plans, but what could be more tempting than that?

I always thought the insta-love romances I portrayed in my movies were a little hokey, but Rory turns me into a true believer. The chemistry between us is undeniable, but I want more than just a physical relationship with him. If he’s willing to take a chance by opening his heart to me, then why should I settle for anything less than a true romantic ending of a lifetime of love together?

Honeymoon Ever After is the fifth and final book in the Suite Dreams series and part of the Sunnyside universe. This novel features a bi awakening, insta love, celebrity/regular guy, age gap, forced proximity, gay romance. If you love cute sweetness, sexy fun, and no angst stories that will make you laugh and swoon, you’ll enjoy this satisfying HEA without cliffhangers. Each book can be read as a standalone or as part of the series in order.

Chapter 3: Rory Kinsella

“Can we please talk about something else now before I combust into flames from how hard I’m blushing?” I asked.

Kieran laughed heartily. “Fair enough. Why don’t you tell me about what you’re hoping to do once you graduate with your PhD? That seems like a nice, safe, unsexy topic of conversation.”

It was a relief to move into the safety of academia. “My degree guarantees I’ll be teaching at university, since it’s not good for much else. But I’d love to make my own graphic novel series someday when I’m not up to my eyeballs in research for my dissertation.”

“That’s an amazing idea!” His genuine enthusiasm caught me off guard.

“Jude and I have talked about collaborating before. I can illustrate, but I’m not the best storyteller. But he’s an incredible writer, plus we work well together. I think we could make something awesome if we ever find the time to do it.”

“I’m in full support of this idea. You guys need to make that happen for real.”

I tilted my head as I studied him with curiosity. “Why? For all you know, I could be a shitty artist and he could be a terrible writer.”

“No, you’re too remarkable to be anything less than stellar. Not to mention you’re probably a perfectionist who will only accept absolute perfection.” He stated it with so much confidence that it stunned me.

“I think calling me remarkable is a bit of a stretch. I’m pretty ordinary, especially compared to people like Jude or my brothers.” They all were far more spectacular than I could ever aspire to be.

“With all due respect, I strongly disagree. There’s nothing ordinary about you.”

“That’s sweet, but once you’ve known me for more than twenty-four hours, I suspect you’ll have a very different opinion.”

“You’re right. I’ll probably think you’re even more amazing than I first gave you credit for.” He looked at me with such an earnest belief that it astounded me. “Clearly, we need to work on your self-esteem.”

“It’s easy to be confident when you’re you.” I gestured at all of his incredibleness. “But I’m me.”

My breathing hitched when he reached out and cupped my face in his hands to look deep into my eyes. “There is nobody better at being you than you are. Your kindness, your passion, and your empathy make you stand out from everyone else I have ever encountered. You can see the real me that most people don’t believe exists under these muscles. That counts for a lot in my book when the Hollywood veneer blinds everyone. But you don’t care about any of that.”

The warmth in his green eyes as he tried to convey his sincerity got me all twisted up inside, as his touch filled me with nervous butterflies. I wasn’t sure what to say to such sincere praise, but the knock on the door and someone calling out “Room service” spared me. Kieran tenderly caressed my cheekbones with his thumbs before he got up to get the food.

I drew in a shuddering breath as my heart hammered in my chest like a hummingbird’s wings on fast-forward. The experience had been too intense to process. I tried to remember how to act normal while Kieran had the bellhop put our lunches on the small table off to the side. I waited until they left to go over and join him.

Kieran handed me a bottle of chilled cider and held his up in toast once we sat down. “Here’s to exciting new friendships.”

“I’ll drink to that. Cheers.” I clinked my bottle against his before we both took a sip.

The Ballot Boy by Larry Mellman: Release Blitz, Excerpt, and Giveaway

February 20, 2022 by Denise

Venice, 1368.

War hovers in the wings with the fate of the Republic at stake when the old doge dies. Fourteen-year-old Nico, a street urchin from the poorest Venetian parish, is chosen at random to tally votes in the upcoming election for a new leader. Uprooted from his old life and transplanted to the doge’s palace, Nico becomes an alienated outsider at the mercy of scheming nobles.

Andrea Contarini, sixtieth doge of Venice, wants the ducal throne less than Nico wants to be ballot boy. Both walk a golden tightrope over treachery and deceit. When he witnesses a court clerk burned at the stake for being gay, Nico despairs. His romantic attraction to men is as powerful as his fear of fiery death and an eternity in Hell.

Taking advantage of the fraught transition in the Doge’s Palace, the hostile duke of Austria pushes Trieste to rebel against Venetian domination, jeopardizing her mastery of the Adriatic Sea. The Venetian nobles split, trapping the doge between hawks rabid for war, and rich merchants desperate for peace. With his own life on the line, Andrea Contarini opts to attack decisively and end the crisis swiftly, but his gambit is sabotaged. Trusting only the boy at his side, Contarini sends Nico to Trieste to be his eyes and ears. As the Venetian commanders wrangle over tactics, Nico falls for Astolfo, the young, charismatic lord of Castle Moccò, an indispensable but unreliable ally.

Will Nico return to Venice a celebrated hero? Or will he be forever haunted, guilt-ridden, and still concealing his deepest secret?

I’m running as fast as I can, but I can’t catch the thief. If I don’t, Alex’s life is over. The necklace the thief snatched from my hand gives away the game. Alex will be exposed. Locked up. Maybe even killed because Alex’s father, Francesco Barbanegra, has the temper and manners of a pirate. Alex’s family is rich. Very, very rich. Richer than most nobles. But they are common, like my family, which consists of my mother, who takes in laundry. She gets paid in pennies. I understand why she wants me to be ballot boy, but that’s her dream not mine. I don’t want to be ballot boy. I want to be me, whoever that is.

Only heartbeats ago, Alex and I had moored our boat to the wharf and staggered ashore, covered with mud. When Alex took off the necklace to give me—the gold dolphin on its golden chain, ruby eye glinting in the early light—the thief burst from the shed, yanked it from my hand, and took off like a demon down the deserted embankment.

“Go home,” I shouted to Alex over my shoulder, “before it’s too late,” and I tore after the thief.

The dolphin is fatal. If the thief tries to sell it at a Rialto pawnshop, the whole world will know. I can’t risk it.

Our feet slap on the mud, startling a flock of ducks. They flap their wings, burst up from the salt marsh, and take to the icy winter sky.

The thief is taller than most Venetians, with long spindly legs, no shoes, and a striped turban. He doesn’t look down; he doesn’t look back. He barrels down the embankment in the direction of the Customs House. My legs are a foot shorter than his, his stride worth two of mine. I suck air like I’m drowning and exhale prayers like I’m dying.

Queen of Heaven, hear my pleas. St. Nicholas, grant me thine aid.

When I manage to close the gap between us, he speeds up. No matter how fast I’m going, he goes faster. He clutches the gold chain in his fist, the dolphin dangling free, its ruby eye sparkling.

That dolphin is a pledge of brotherhood between Alex and me, the seal on our secrets, and a promise that I won’t be selected ballot boy because if I am, last night was our final meeting, maybe forever.

“Please, Nico.” Alex’s eyes had implored me, and I could never refuse. “You’ve been on the sea many times. I’m thirteen years old, and my father owns great galleys, but I’ve never seen the sea. This could be my last chance.”

“It’s not your last chance.”

“If you’re selected, it is.”

“Look at me. Do you think Ruggiero Gradenigo would pick me? I look like a muddy clown.”

“Anything can happen.”

Alex’s pleading eyes broke me every time.

Stars filled the sky, and the moon, hovering high above the mountains beyond the lagoon, sprinkled diamonds over the water. I’d been explaining the lagoon to Alex, showing off, I guess, paying no attention to the tide. I didn’t notice the moon pulling the lagoon out from under us until stranded fish danced a desperate tarantella on the exposed sandbars. A mile of mud separated us from the beacon fire atop St. Mark’s campanile. We jumped from the boat and sank up to our knees. We couldn’t walk, nor could we reach the shore until the morning tide swept back in and filled the lagoon. Alex would never get home without being discovered; I would never be in St. Mark’s Square in time for the selection, and my mother would kill me.

I breathe in, out, in, out, in, out, pushing myself harder and harder until I hit a wall and explode and pick myself up and keep going until it happens all over again. The thief took one look at the stupid costume Mama had sewn me for selection day, all torn and wet and muddy, and he must have figured me for a drunk noble, a pushover. Mama is convinced the costume will make Ruggiero Gradenigo select me. She believes in magic. Her eye is on the prize.

He’s waiting for me to collapse, this thief. He’s making a big mistake. He doesn’t know that every day since I turned eight, six years now, I row across the lagoon and back before the midmorning bells, and I will kill him if I have to.

He makes a move to outrun me on the straightaway in front of the old shipyard. We pound over rough planks, wobbly pontoons, and a muddy bog tangled with bramble. I’m glad he’s barefoot. It must hurt like hell. He can hear my sandals slapping the ground.

The buildings crowd close along the levee. The bogs and brambles disappear under wooden docks and wharves. Merchant galleys and cogs are moored all the way to the Customs House. The ground tapers to a point where the Giudecca Canal meets the Grand Canal. Keeping running and your turban floats.

He hasn’t lost me, so he squeezes between buildings with barely a foot between them, and I follow, the mortar between the bricks shredding my tunic.

The big bell at St. Mark’s, the Marangona, starts tolling to summon the Great Council to pray for God’s grace on the election of the doge. All 1,200 nobles are members of the Great Council. Their names are inscribed in the Golden Book. After Mass, Ruggiero Gradenigo, the youngest member of the Great Council, will walk out of the church, onto St. Mark’s Square, and pick the first commoner he lays eyes on, age fifteen or less, to be the ballot boy. That’s the law. The old doge is dead, and we can’t elect a new one until a ballot boy is selected at random to count the votes and make sure the nobles don’t cheat.

I squeeze out of the crawlspace and glimpse the thief’s turban disappearing down a dark lane the sun never reaches. Several lanes lead into this small square; all but one dead end at the water. He doesn’t know where he’s going and probably doesn’t care as long as he stays ahead of me. He’s as desperate as I am. My heart beats a battle tocsin.

I struggle to master my breath as Abdul taught me. I’m dog-tired from fighting the moon, the tide, the mud. Sweat floods my face. The salt burns my eyes. I wipe them with my muddy sleeve, squeeze them shut, and listen. This quarter is silent. Everyone is at St. Mark’s for the selection.

The thief’s bare feet, bloodied from running the embankment, leave a trail winding through a labyrinth that will lead him back to me. That’s how Venice is. Outsiders always go in circles, even we do occasionally outside our home parish.

The old doge died last week. He didn’t last very long; he was eighty-two when they elected him back in 1365. That’s old even for a doge. I was twelve then. Mama knew I was going to be selected his ballot boy. She’d worked it all out with the Blessed Virgin and St. Mark. She took to bed for a week when I wasn’t selected, but she never gave up. She started praying for the new doge to die before my fifteenth birthday. I heard her, every night. First, she prayed forgiveness for wanting him dead. Then, she begged heaven for him to die. Now, she believes a miracle has happened. I’m going to be ballot boy. She knows. The Virgin interceded.

If I’m not in front of St. Mark’s when Ruggiero Gradenigo selects the ballot boy, I will be dead to her. She will curse me for spoiling her miracle.

The thief backs into the little square. He doesn’t see me. He sees a glint of sun on water at the end of a narrow chasm of brick. He takes off toward the water, and I get there first, waiting, as he staggers onto the wharf. On the opposite bank, mothers and their sons clog St. Mark’s Square, tricked out like piglets at the Ascension Day fair, each one praying for the job I don’t want.

The thief ducks between the pilings of the empty ferry dock. None of the ferries, trapped on the water, can move for all the other boats. Nobody is going anywhere. Every eye will remain on the Doge’s Palace until a new doge is elected. Venice is the richest city of all; the stakes are high. Mama says anything can happen.

I charge, pin the thief against a striped pole stuck in the Grand Canal, and grab for the dolphin in his hand. But he twists free and hurls himself off the dock, crashing into a boat below. The boat rocks wildly, the passengers scream, he steadies himself. Before anyone knows what’s happening, he leaps into the next boat, and the next, and the next. As fast as he can, he bounds across St. Mark’s Basin toward the twin columns at the water’s edge framing the Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s Church, and the greatest square in the world. Executions and burnings take place between the columns, and walking between them brings a curse upon your head, which is why we call them the Columns of Doom. I saw a murderer executed there when I was seven. They chopped off his hand first, in San Barnaba Square, where he’d killed someone, strung his hand around his neck, and rowed him back here. They hung him, quartered him, and left the pieces out to dry here between the columns.

I jump from boat to boat to boat after the thief. People squawk, but I’m out as fast as I’m in, never stopping, my eye always on his bobbing turban. He scrambles up between the columns and pushes his way toward St. Mark’s Square through the bodies packing the Piazzetta.

The church doors aren’t open yet. The thief towers above the mothers and sons, his turban threading through the Piazzetta toward the church. Arsenal men in leather armor hold the crowd back, creating some space for Ruggiero Gradenigo to come out and pick. Mothers fight for places directly in front of the church.

The big bell tolls.

Mass is finished. The crowd surges forward, a wave of anticipation silencing them. The stones beneath our feet vibrate with the wild clangor of bells.

He made a big mistake, and now he sees just how big. Bodies block him on all sides. I elbow my way through the crush as the church doors swing open. The crowd gasps. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Mama desperately looking for me. She’s furious I’m not up-front and center with her.

I leapfrog a tangled knot of eight-year-olds and their mothers, grasping for the thief’s throat. He panics and hurls the dolphin over the crowd. I vault, twist, and grab the dolphin out of the air by its chain. I can’t land on my feet. I come down sideways, rolling over bodies onto the cleared pavement. The guards can’t stop me.

Never Have I Ever…Gone Skinny Dipping, by Riley Hart

I ordered, then sat down and waited. How did one man ask another man to go skinny-dipping with him? Oh, yeah. A date. I should start with a date, and holy hell, what made me think I could ask Ronan Winters on a date?

“My favorite customer is back,” he said, breaking through my internal freak-out.

I looked up at him. Ronan’s arms were crossed. God, he had sexy arms. It looked like he spent his time doing manual labor instead of hitting the gym.

I took my glasses off and chewed the end.

“Are you flirting with me, Freckles?” he asked with a grin. “Because that is so damn cute. I love the glasses thing.”

He loved it…which basically meant he would want to do some naked swimming with me.

“Willyougoonadatewithme?”

“Huh?”

Huh was right. I had no idea what I’d just said, only I did, and I shouldn’t have said it there, in the middle of his shift, but…he wasn’t wearing his Extra Shot shirt.

“Never mind.” This was stupid. What in the hell had made me think Ronan Winters would want to go on a dinner/skinny-dipping date with me?

“Yes,” Ronan said.

“Excuse me?” I put my glasses back on.

“Yes, I’d love to go on a date with you. Isn’t that what you asked?”

“You would?” I wouldn’t want to go on a date with me if I were him.

He chuckled. “Yeah, I would. In fact, I’m free right now if you’re not busy plotting world domination on your laptop. I’m convinced that’s what you’re doing, by the way.”

“But today is your workday. I’m not stalking you, I swear. I just…come here enough that I’ve learned your schedule.”

“It changed this week.”

“Are you sure?”

“That I’m not currently working? Yes.”

“No, that you want to go on a date with me.”

“Yes, I absolutely want to go on a date with you.”

“I absolutely want to go on a date with you too,” I replied. “Clearly, since I asked.”

About the Heart2Heart Anthology Series:

Since 2018, and across four volumes, the Heart2Heart anthology has donated more than $100,000 USD to LGBTQ+ charities around the world. From large organizations such as Rainbow Railroad and the Trevor Project, to community programs like Kind Space and One-n-Ten, we’re honored to support their work.

A true passion project, Heart2Heart wouldn’t be possible without the incredible efforts and generosity of our support teams:

  • Cover design by Kelley Fox at Sleepy Fox Studios
  • Beta reading, editing, and proofreading by the team at LesCourt Author Services and other incredible volunteers
  • Promotion by Gay Romance Reviews
  • The readers who never fail to bring their creativity when offering suggestions to inspire the authors.

And of course, the author’s time and efforts and the organisational overlord of the project; Leslie Copeland.

As with previous editions of the anthology, we’re honored to be donating our net profits to three deserving charities.

More information on the Charities chosen for Volume 5:

PFLAG Canada

‍🌈 Pflag Canada is a national charitable organization, founded by parents who wished to help themselves and their family members understand and accept their LGBTQ2S children.

The “coming-out” process can be a critical time for families. When the adjustment period is particularly long or painful, relationships can become permanently damaged, resulting in a lifetime of emotional scars. People cannot always rise above the challenge of accepting themselves or their family members, and the results can be devastating, even fatal.

CHEW Project

‍🌈 The CHEW Project’s vision is to provide frontline support, opportunities for health and wellness, and to help find hope for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and emerging adults facing barriers related to:

  • Mental health
  • Oppression
  • Poverty
  • Homelessness
  • Substance use
  • Sexual health
  • Sexual exploitation/sex work
  • And others

Pride Centre of Edmonton

‍🌈 The Pride Centre of Edmonton provides a non-judgmental, welcoming space where people of all attractions, identities, and expressions can be themselves, find support, meet new people, and be part of a caring community. The Centre offers resources, education, volunteer opportunities, counselling, and sensitive and expert information and referrals for those seeking help. The Centre also organizes programs to help improve the social, mental, and physical health of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

The Magnolia Murders by Aimee Nicole Walker: Cover Reveal and Giveaway

January 14, 2022 by Denise

Everything old is new again in love and murder.

Work together, live together, and play together is the name of the game for Royce Locke and Sawyer Key. But one of those things changes when Chief Mendoza taps Sawyer to lead the newly formed cold case unit. His first task: solve the Magnolia Murders that spanned three decades and suddenly stopped in 2000.

Chaos ensues when a fourth Magnolia Queen contender is murdered during a preliminary round. With the pageant’s one hundredth anniversary looming, the pressure is on to produce results. Royce and Sawyer, along with their new partners, have to team up to solve the Magnolia Murders—old and new.

As the investigation continues, a surprise visitor and an unexpected phone call force the men to face painful things from their pasts. The future Royce and Sawyer dream of is within their grasp, but first, they’ll need to uproot the seeds of discontent they’ve buried deep.

The Magnolia Murders is the first book in the Matrimony and Mayhem trilogy, the second story arc for Royce Locke and Sawyer Key. ** New readers should start with the Zero Hour trilogy before reading Matrimony and Mayhem. ** The Magnolia Murders is a continuation of Royce and Sawyer’s happily ever after as they move into the next phase of their lives—professionally and personally. Though some storylines span the trilogy, this book does not end in a cliffhanger. Heat, humor, heart, and homicide abound. You have been warned. 18+

Because of Ben (Star Crossed, Book 2) by Lisa Henry: RB, Exclusive Excerpt and Giveaway

January 11, 2022 by Denise

Marco Chase is the lead singer for Static, one of the world’s most famous and successful rock bands. Marco’s bad boy rock star image isn’t just one he’s cultivated for his fans—it’s Marco all over. Marco’s past is full of one night stands, bad decisions, and blackouts. Marco never saw a cage he didn’t want to rattle—and from the moment he lays eyes on him, he really wants to rattle sweet, innocent Ben Selden’s cage.

Ben Selden comes from a fundamentalist Baptist family. Ben is struggling under the weight of knowing that he’s gay, and a lifetime’s teachings that tell him that his God will condemn him, and his family reject him, if they ever find out. With a future he doesn’t want already mapped out for him, Ben’s at a breaking point when he meets Marco.

Marco’s teasing, flirting, and obvious interest awakens a hunger in Ben, and he knows this might be his only chance to act on his attraction to a man—if he’s brave enough to risk his future, and his family, to take it. He doesn’t expect Marco to be his savior, but maybe a savior isn’t what Ben needs—maybe he just needs someone to believe in him enough that he’s willing to save himself.

Because of Ben is the second book in the Star Crossed series, where regular guys meet famous ones, and sparks fly.

Marco was playing around with the bridge of the song when his room phone chimed. He set the guitar aside and climbed to his feet—he liked working on the floor and always had—and crossed to the bedside table to pick up the phone.

“Hello?”

“Mr…McClintock,” said someone who very obviously knew that wasn’t his name, “this is Hannah calling from reception. I have a young man here at the front desk who says you’re expecting him.”

Ben. Thank fuck for his recording software because he immediately forgot everything he’d been working on for the past few hours.

“Yeah,” he said. “Thanks. Let him know I’ll come down and see him.”

And to slide a fifty across the front desk with a thanks to Hannah for being discreet. Not that he’d ever cared who knew he sometimes invited pretty things up to his room, but Ben wasn’t some enthusiastic fan who’d be screaming it from the rooftops himself.

He grabbed his room card and wallet and headed downstairs.

The elevator took an age to arrive, and Marco shared it with a couple of parents who were too preoccupied with their gurgling baby to pay him any attention. He held the doors for them when they reached reception so they could get the stroller and their suitcases out.

Ben was sitting in one of the comfortable chairs scattered around reception, shoulders hunched in, one sneakered foot tapping anxiously against the floor.

Marco veered quickly past the front desk to thank Hannah and leave her a tip, and then he walked over to Ben. Ben watched him approach with wide eyes, like a rabbit frozen under the stare of a predator. “Hey.”

“Hey,” Ben echoed.

“You want to come up to my room?”

Ben opened his mouth to reply, and maybe the words got stuck because he gave a jerky nod and pushed himself to his feet.

They headed back to the elevators, and once they were inside, Marco hit the close button. He didn’t want to share this ride.

“Come here,” he said when the doors rolled shut. He held out his hand.

Ben’s hand was shaking when he took it.

“Nothing’s gonna happen that you don’t want, okay?” He tugged Ben forward, relishing his gasp as they collided gently. “Is this okay?”

Ben closed his eyes, his breath shuddering out of him. He nodded, and Marco slid an arm around his waist and turned him so that they were both leaning on the wall of the elevator, their sides pressed together. A casual pose for Marco, but he could feel Ben vibrating with tension like a guitar string wound too tightly. He didn’t try to move away, though, which meant they were on the same page here. Ben knew what Marco wanted, and he’d come looking for it. He could work with that. Hell, even if they didn’t end up doing anything, lunch had been a lot of fun. It wasn’t as though spending time with Pretty Boy Ben was any hardship, even if neither of them got off. All the same, Marco was definitely hoping to see Ben shiver apart as he came. He was just so fucking gorgeous.

Lisa likes to tell stories, mostly with hot guys and happily ever afters.

Lisa lives in tropical North Queensland, Australia. She doesn’t know why, because she hates the heat, but she suspects she’s too lazy to move. She spends half her time slaving away as a government minion, and the other half plotting her escape.

She attended university at sixteen, not because she was a child prodigy or anything, but because of a mix-up between international school systems early in life. She studied History and English, neither of them very thoroughly.

She shares her house with too many cats, a dog, a green tree frog that swims in the toilet, and as many possums as can break in every night. This is not how she imagined life as a grown-up.

Lisa has been published since 2012, and was a LAMBDA finalist for her quirky, awkward coming-of-age romance Adulting 101, and a Rainbow Awards finalist for 2019’s Anhaga.

Whit by Cora RoseNew release and review!Whit by Cora Rose was my first book by her and I believe her first book. And I was really impressed. It's not easy to find a first book that I don't nit pick. But I really enjoyed it and she has been quite the prolific writer since.Caleb is the same story told from Whit's point of view. (Whit was Caleb's point of view)This is a good young adult (21ish) romance, opposites attract, gay for you, rich boy/poor boy...all the tropes. It was fun to read the story from Whit's POV. How he was really feeling about Caleb, about meeting family, about dealing with his own family, etc. And to hear how dirty his mind really was since he's so buttoned up (figuratively) to the world.I loved seeing Caleb's family just immediately accept him as part of the family. Jokes, hugs and all.If you enjoyed Whit, you'll enjoy Caleb. Same story, different perspectives.Do I need all of her books to have this companion piece? Nah. But I'm glad I revisited these guys.4 Pieces of Eye Candy ... See MoreSee Less

✨EXCERPT: CALEB by @coraroseauthor releasing April 24th! #PreOrderNowbooks2read.com/u/4En91A I shake my head, even though it is. I feel like my heart is being ripped from my body. The choice I have to make. Is it even a choice? “I…I overreacted. I’m…I’ll be fine,” I tell him, clutching at his hand and turning it to kiss that rough palm. Because I have to be fine with whatever I choose. And I don’t know if I can choose a future with him. Not after everything I’ve been through. My parents owe me for what they put me through. I’ve earned it with my blood and tears. Can I give it all up? For him? Caleb’s thumbs rub over my cheeks. “Okay.” He doesn’t sound convinced. Not that I expect him to. I’m a liar in the worst way. Selfish, thoughtless. He will never forgive me once this is over. My eyes water, and Caleb’s face crumples as he pulls me into his chest and holds me. I should never have let him be my roommate. I should have let him go about his life, never knowing me. It would have been simpler, better. But I was too greedy. Wanted him too much. And now look what I’ve done. I’m set to ruin him. I need to pull away before I do more damage. I need to end this. Soon, I tell myself. Just one more day. Let me have one more day.#mmromance #corarose The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less
