where-we-left-offsynopsis

Leo Ware may be young, but he knows what he wants. And what he wants is Will Highland. Snarky, sophisticated, fiercely opinionated Will Highland, who burst into Leo’s unremarkable life like a supernova… and then was gone just as quickly.

For the past miserable year, Leo hasn’t been able to stop thinking about the powerful connection he and Will shared. So, when Leo moves to New York for college, he sweeps back into Will’s life, hopeful that they can pick up where they left off. What begins as a unique friendship soon burns with chemistry they can’t deny… though Will certainly tries.

But Leo longs for more than friendship and hot sex. A romantic to his core, Leo wants passion, love, commitment—everything Will isn’t interested in giving. Will thinks romance is a cheesy fairy tale and love is overrated. He likes his space and he’s happy with things just the way they are, thank you very much. Or is he? Because as he and Leo get more and more tangled up in each other’s lives, Will begins to act like maybe love is something he could feel after all.

I was honestly so excited to read this book. My heart broke for Leo in Rex and Daniels book, (I’m still mildly obsessed with Rex) But, I just knew he’d have a good story and while there were parts I absolutely adored in this; there were also parts, more often than not that I couldn’t stand.
I thought Leo was a bit too desperate; he totally was a kid with his first crush. He was obsessed with Will and Will treated him so bad. I mean, yeah, he was honest about not wanting everything and Leo just hung on like a lost puppy. But Will was rude and hurtful, and very contradictory. He’d tell Leo he didn’t want him but then kiss him and let him stay with him and all that. The whole “I’m so hot and I hate it” thing was ridiculous… like, woe is me, everyone treats me so awesome because I’m so good looking and I don’t like that. Why can’t people see me as something other than gorgeous?? Are you serious with that? And all the while, Leo is still obsessing even though Will tells him time and time again that he isn’t interested. He invites himself over, he invites himself to stay for school breaks, he reminds me of a little kid who has no boundaries or self-preservation. Leo’s mind set is…. “If I’m around enough, he’ll fall in love with me.” That’s such a juvenile way to be, and that sucks because I felt like with the way Leo’s family was… he was truly just looking for someone to love him. He wanted the kind of love that Daniel and Rex have… He was a romantic at heart and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Will was selfish…. Period….He wanted what he wanted and got mad when Leo wanted a little more. THEN he got mad at Leo for leaving when he pushed him away. Are you kidding me? Leo says, it hurts to sleep with you while you sleep with other people, one of which I walked in on. It hurts to love you so much when you constnantly throw in my face that we’ll never be anything more than FWB, It hurts me too bad to call and talk to you or spend the night or hang out or whatever and it mean nothing to Will… but it does, doesn’t it? Of course it does but instead of Will telling Leo, he gets mad again that Leo just put the clue’s together and figure it out himself…. Mind….BLOWN….
I didn’t feel like Leo was asking for too much. I mean, he was clingy and needy and pushy, but Will could have ended it at any time but he didn’t. He liked Leo being around, he liked that Leo liked him, he even admitted it that. And Leo changed. He done anything he could to be what Will wanted. He accepted Will’s terms, he done things on Will’s agenda and everything was about Will, even though it hurt Leo to do it. He’d literally take any scraps Will was willing to give for as long as he wanted to… WHAT???? And THEN when we thought we might get a good ending, it’s a HFN because Will can only promise he’ll try to not sleep with other people…. I literally cried my eyes out when I read that. And Leo acted like it was amazing! Like, oh my goodness he’ll TRY to stop sleeping around for me!
He deserved more. Leo deserved so much more than what he got and even if I can understand why Will might be a little bit the way he was. It in no way excuses his hurting people; especially with someone whom he knows loves him. It was selfish and cruel and I really wanted to see more for them. I was disappointed in the ending, even Will’s declaration of a sort was rude and obnoxious because he was irritated at even having to do it…. Jeeez, what a jerk!
On a lighter note, I loved watching Leo grow up, he had his own friends who were great and treated him with respect and kindness. They were genuine and funny and were always there for Leo when he was off pouting about Will…I loved that he had them. I wouldn’t mind the twins getting a story and especially Milton and Thomas. Both of them would have cute stories too I bet as long as there was no one like Will anywhere around!
I loved the other two books in this story, like… especially Rex and Daniel’s one…. But, this one has me on the fence, I’m more of a miss with this one only because it didn’t seem like a romance to me. It was unrequited love at its finest until the end and then it’s only a very little bit requited and I wasn’t convinced. The writing was good though, very descriptive and imaginative. I enjoyed seeing Leo get to know New York and find himself. It became home to him and I was glad to see him belong somewhere. I also loved that Rex and Daniel were still very much there for him and was there for him whenever he needed them. Overall, it’s not a bad story, but I wouldn’t call it a romance and I wouldn’t say it has a HEA… more of a “Content for now” ending. I can’t even say Happy because in no way did Will ever seem happy about it.

Of Love and Corn Dogs by Parker Williams: Release Day Review and Excerpt

September 22, 2016 by Denise

oflovecorndogs-400x600synopsis

With more money than he could spend in ten lifetimes, Darwin Kincade still couldn’t keep death from stealing his lover. A little older and a whole lot wiser, flirting with his twice-a-week waiter is the perfect no-risk substitute for a real relationship. Until the night his routine is upended by the restaurant’s newest employee.

Ricky Donnelly loves people. While being a server isn’t his dream, he’s good at it. When a grumpy man is seated in his station, Ricky sees there’s more to him than he lets on, and when the man relaxes, he’s actually sweet.

As the two men bond over a discussion about corn dogs—something Darwin’s never heard of—he realizes how much he’s missed out on in his life. He vows to open himself to new experiences—including, perhaps, a chance at finding love again.

Not wanting anything to muddy their blooming relationship, Darwin hides part of himself from Ricky. He likes the look in Ricky’s eyes, unclouded by Darwin’s notoriety. Unfortunately, the truth can never stay hidden, and when it comes out, Darwin may lose any hope of holding onto the future they’ve begun to build.

excerpt

Darwin sat at his usual table and scanned the restaurant, anxious to see Roy, his favorite server. From the soft lighting of the candelabras that dotted the walls and the gleaming hardwood bar to the deep, rich brown carpeting, everything about Asiago screamed class. As the only five-star restaurant in the area, everything had to be the best. But Roy outshone all the glitz of the dining room. While Darwin knew Roy saw him as a customer, he secretly hoped that one day the waiter might realize he hadn’t been coming for the food all these months.

He frowned when the young man who approached the table looked nothing like the raven-haired beauty Darwin had grown accustomed to seeing twice a week for the last six months. He tried to school his features to hide his disappointment, not wanting to hurt the slender blond with the wide smile who drew near.

“Good evening, Mr. Kincade. My name is Richard, and I’ll be your server for this evening. Would you like to start with a drink?”

“Where’s Roy?” Darwin growled. His cheeks heated when Richard stepped back, looking every bit the kicked puppy. Darwin winced. He knew better than to snap at people. He scratched his cheek before he glanced up. “I’m sorry. It’s been a long day. Please forgive me. I assume Roy isn’t working tonight?”

“Roy quit a couple days ago,” came the hesitant answer.

Darwin’s gut clenched. He’d been coming to Asiago simply for Roy. Truthfully, the merely palatable food hadn’t been a drawing point. Seeing Roy had become the highlight of his week, and now he was gone.

“Did he say where he was going?” A hint of whine escaped, but goddamn it, he’d been in lust with Roy.

“He and his wife moved to be closer to her parents.”book-template

Nausea rolled through Darwin. He hadn’t even considered Roy might not have been gay. Such a fool he was.

“Would you like that drink?” Richard asked hesitantly.

Darwin knew Asiago was one of the few places in the United States that had the drink he loved most. “Yes, please. A shot of Macallan M. Neat.”

Richard gasped and then covered his mouth. “Sir, that costs—”

“I damn well know the cost,” he snapped. “Bring me my drink.”

Once more Darwin’s anger had gotten the better of him. Green eyes shimmered in the dim lighting, and Darwin worried the young man might break into tears.

“Again, please accept my apologies. It’s been a rough day, and I should probably just go home.” He reached over and grabbed his briefcase, ready to stand, when Richard held out a hand and graced Darwin with a genuine and disarming smile.

“No, please. Stay. Let me get you that drink, okay? I’ll let you know the dinner special when I come back. My grandma always said any day can be made better with a good meal.” Richard hurried off in the direction of the bar without waiting for a reply.

Darwin fumed at his lack of self-control. Not only had he made a fool of himself tonight, but he’d also hurt the feelings of someone he didn’t know. Though Richard would be right to refuse service to Darwin, he’d run to get a drink. As much as he wanted to believe the attentive attitude came down to getting a decent tip, Richard seemed too genuine for that. Darwin sighed and put his briefcase back on the leather seat. His mother would be so disappointed in him.

A crystal glass thunked against the table, startling Darwin. The amber liquid rippled gently. Darwin picked it up and gazed into the glass. He’d thought about downing it in one go, relishing the burn that would inevitably follow, but he hated losing control. He took a deep, steadying breath.

“Richard—”

“Ricky.”

“Excuse me?”

“Most people call me Ricky. You can, if you want.”

How sweet this story was….
First we have Darwin; being seated in a specific section at a restaurant he visits every week to check out a hot guy only to find out the hot guy isn’t there anymore. He’s a bit grouchy about it but quickly apologizes when he sees the new waiter and feels guilty for taking out his disappointment on him.
Ricky is a new server at Asiago and he’s just met Darwin. I’ve got to say, Darwin doesn’t make a good first impression but he more than makes up for it. He’s so sweet and charming and even though I thought the whole thing was kind of unbelievable, the whole Ricky and losing his job and the deal with his boss; it was a little bit ridiculous….. at least Darwin was trying to help.
Another problem I had was the way in which Darwin told Ricky who he was and how much he was worth… why not, instead of the way he done it… just been like, listen this is who I am, this is why I was hesitant to bring it up and I really like you and didn’t want to make things awkward… or something like that. I understand completely why he just wanted to be a normal guy liking a normal guy and they’d only been out a couple times, I didn’t blame him. Although I also think Ricky’s reaction was also understandable when he initially found out, I thought he was being a little bratty when he got to experience the whole thing at Darwin’s home. Again, I can understand how overwhelming it would be and his reaction to that was also understandable… but his reasonings and the way he justified it to himself as well as Darwin and anyone else, just made me want to shake some sense into him lol960x350-1
What I loved about this story was how romantic and sweet and charming Darwin is… I love how independent Ricky is even if it makes his stubborn to the point I wanted to punch him a time or two…. I loved how Darwin treated the people in his life, how they became family and he respected them all and cared about them; especially Hensley. When Ricky said that Hensley was in love with Darwin that kind of threw me off because I didn’t get that feeling at all…. He was like a brother to him and wanted him to be happy, especially with Ricky because he saw how happy Ricky made him. I love how Ricky was so close to his mom and sister; the banter between them all was hilarious. I heard a lot about Darwin’s parents and how great they were and I know that Darwin’s father had passed but I don’t remember ever meeting his mother… did I overlook that part or did it just not happen?
Either way… this was an incredibly sweet, light read. It wasn’t too fluffy and although a couple parts were a little frustrating or unbelievable; I adored these two together and I wouldn’t mind getting to read more about them or even Hensley and Jeff. Super cute.

Hide and Seek by T.M. Smith: Exclusive Excerpt, Blog Tour and Giveaway

September 21, 2016 by Denise

synopsishideandseek-customdesign-jayaheer2016-finalimageDusty Anderson left his hometown in Justin, Texas for the Big Apple not long after graduating high school with dreams of becoming an actor. A year later, no closer to realizing his dream but pretty damn close to being broke, he comes across a flyer in a local gay bar that provides a solution to his dilemma. Six years later, Dusty has all but forgotten his dream to be an actor. The family he gained when he went to work at All Cocks and the job itself are enough for him, for now at least.

David Thompson is barely twenty-one, high on life and starting his second year at NYU as an Art student. Now that he is old enough to enjoy the city’s night life, David finds his first crush at a local hot spot in the village, The Monster Bar. Young love is laid to rest though, when David comes out to his mother and older brother with disastrous results.

A tragic incident at the hands of David’s brother changes the course of all of their lives and brings the two together, but is it coincidence or fate? Regardless of unlikely circumstance, Dusty is inexplicably drawn to David, who suddenly finds himself alone in the world. Protective of David from the start, Dusty realizes his extended family at All Cocks and his best friend Kory will not understand this new relationship. Fearing the worst, Dusty plays a dangerous game of hide and seek, risking everything to keep David safe and sheltered.

But hiding can only last for so long, and David and Dusty aren’t the only ones dealing with uncertainties. The Dimir men find that the one thing they’ve longed for might be within reach and Dusty’s father, Dean, arrives in town unexpectedly with secrets of his own. Truths come out and trust is put to the test. Can the All Cocks family find the happiness they deserve?

This is the 6th book in the All Cocks stories series, the series would read best if read in order, but each book can be read as a standalone story.

David wondered again why Dusty was with him. What was it that brought Dusty to him and made him stay with a virtual stranger? He was having trouble voicing his thoughts, Dusty’s fingers brushing his knuckles distracting him to the point of haziness. As much as he was enjoying it, David slowly pulled his hand away. There was already far too much David couldn’t grasp in his mind—the question needed to be asked: “Why are you here Dusty? I mean, why did you come here in the first place if you don’t know me?”

There was a flash of emotion in the depths of Dusty’s brown eyes, there one instant and then gone so fast, David couldn’t put a name to it. Before Dusty could answer his question, an aide came in with a small paper cup that held two tablets. “Here you are. Doc wants you to start an oral antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory for the leg.” The aide reached for the cup and pitcher of water on the bedside table. He filled the cup and handed it to David, lifting both eyebrows, eyes wandering from the paper cup in David’s hand to the cup of water.

“Oh, sorry,” David apologized, popping the tablets into his mouth and washing them down with the entire cup of water. The aide smiled, patted David on the leg then left the room, tossing the paper cup into the trash on his way out the door.

Now, where were we? The tender look he got from Dusty when he lifted his head left David flustered, forgetting that Dusty hadn’t actually answered his question. Neither of them spoke for a while, they simply sat and watched each other. Normally, David felt far too shy and awkward to hold eye contact with anyone for more than a few moments. But something about Dusty drew him in, like a moth to a flame. There was a kindness in Dusty’s eyes that David hadn’t often seen in his young life. David was utterly captivated by the man.

While David was quite certain Dusty wasn’t telling him everything, he was even more certain the good looking guy holding his hand meant him no harm. There was a flash of memory, his brother Dale growling at him, picking on him about his small stature and effeminate features. His body involuntarily shuddered. Dusty, thinking he was cold, stood and reached for the soft, white blanket, pulling it up to David’s chest and tucking it under his arms.

I was so looking forward to Dusty’s book. TM Smith did an amazing job with this story. I thought it was so great what Dusty did for David. I really liked watching the relationship between these two evolve. I loved the protectiveness Dusty displayed when it came to David. Dusty’s ability to be clear headed and not blame David for something that wasn’t his fault was heartwarming. I felt so bad for David and everything he went through. I could have smacked his mom, she was an idiot. Both of these characters had depth and substance and drew me into this story.

David, Renewed by Diana Copland: Release Day Review and Guest Post

September 21, 2016 by Denise

david-renewed-final-cover-artsynopsis

When interior designer David Snyder buys a beautiful century-old house in eastern Washington, he is reeling with heartbreak and looking for somewhere to put down roots. Unfortunately his new home comes with a laundry list of problems: electrical, plumbing, heating… things David knows nothing about. When his mother offers him the business card of a local handyman, David pictures an overweight, balding man in his fifties. But Jackson Henry couldn’t be further from that stereotype.

Dark-haired, muscular, and handsome, Jackson left a large construction firm in Seattle to take care of his sick mother. However, his hometown still has an active “good old boy” network, and finding employment in construction is almost impossible for an openly gay man. Determined to persevere, Jackson takes odd jobs as a handyman. He’s exactly what David needs—in more ways than one.

David isn’t ready for his attraction to Jackson, not considering the way his last relationship ended. But as the two men get to know each other, it becomes clear that the heart often knows best, and it rewards those willing to listen.

Guest Post

Hello, everyone!
First, I’d like to thank the two chicks of ‘Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy’ (best site name ever, btw) for doing my release day post for me!
David, Renewed is the first book I’ve written in two years, and it’s always going to have a special place in my heart. I love all of the characters I’ve written, but there’s just something about David and Jackson. David is so insecure and heart sore (understandably), and Jackson is gorgeous and sexy and really couldn’t care less that he is. Mostly, they’re just guys. They have families that come with their own sets of issues, jobs they work hard at, friends they love. In fact, more than any book I’ve ever written, their friends hold a place of prominence.
When I started this book, it was actually supposed to be a short story. (Ha! I suck at writing anything short. Major fail in that department. I start writing short and sexy and plot creeps in.) Anyway, as it grew from short to not short at all, their friends insisted on being included in the conversation. So much so that there will be two more books, just so they can get their turn!
One of the most important relationships in the first book is David and his best friend Michael. Michael is David’s executive assistant, but they became more friends than boss and employee almost immediately. Several years younger, twink cute and snarky as hell, Michael is still infinitely more experienced with dating than David is.
Today I thought I’d share with you a scene between David and Michael that didn’t make the cut. Sometimes, even things we love don’t make it into the final novel. This scene, where Michael helps David get ready for his first date with Jackson, was just such a scene.

DELETED SCENE:
When David emerged from the shower ten minutes later wearing nothing but a towel Michael was lying on his bed with a bowl of microwave popcorn between him and Bootsy and some of the reality crap he loved on the television. David was grateful he’d gotten an old blanket out of the hall linen closet and covered his expensive comforter first. He opened his closet and looked at his clothes, and had no idea what to wear. He turned to Michael.
“Help?”
Michael gave an exaggerated sigh but patted Boots on the head and scooted off the side of the bed. “Okay, what are we going for?”
“He told me to wear something sexy.”
Michael smiled in delight. “Did he now?” He all but rubbed his hands together in glee as he began to study David’s wardrobe. He shifted through the hangers where David’s pants hung neatly, pausing on a pair of black jeans. “Have I seen these before?”
David leaned over his arm. “Probably not. They’re kind of tight.”
“Can you sit in them?” David nodded. “Perfect.” Michael laid them on the foot of the bed. “Now, for a shirt.”
It took him longer to go through each of David’s many shirts, but finally he paused on a long sleeved pale green button down with a delicate dark gray lace pattern overlaid. He pulled it out and laid it on top of the jeans.
“You don’t think that one’s a little… girlie?”
Michael looked at him, one mobile dark brow cocked above the rim of his glasses. “Really? You want me to answer that?”
David rolled his eyes. “Shut up.”
Michael turned back to the closet and picked through David’s array of sweaters. He found a v-neck in dove gray and tossed it to the growing pile on the bed.
“Scarves? Jackets?”
“Other side.”
Michael slid the door over then studied what was revealed, patting his lower lip with his index finger as he looked between the clothes and David. Finally he pulled a dark gray scarf from a hanger and tossed it over his shoulder, rifling through the jackets.
He paused with his fingers on the shoulders of one. “Oh my God, where did this come from?”
He pulled the grey wool pea coat from the closet and held it up, staring raptly at the darker metal buttons and flipping back the side to admire the satin lining.
“I bought it for Trevor, but he never wore it.” David shrugged. “I didn’t figure he’d miss it.”
“Would you?” Michael held it up in front of him, then fingered the soft wool with a sigh.
David pondered for a moment. It really was more Michael’s style than his. “Probably not. You should take it.”
Michael’s eyes lit up like it was Christmas morning. “Seriously? Because I so will.”
“It’s all yours.”
Michael grinned in delight and hung the jacket aside on the bedroom doorknob. “Okay, back to making you sexy.” He shifted hangers to the side one at a time, then stopped again. “Hello, there. Where did this come from?”
He pulled a black leather motorcycle jacket from the closet and held it up.
“I bought that one for Trevor, too. He probably will miss it, but it was four hundred dollars.”
Michael laughed in delight. “I like the new and bitchier David.” He laid the clothes in a careful line, tucking the shirt inside the sweater, laying the scarf and jacket next to them. He studied them seriously, then picked up the scarf and went back to the closet. David frowned.
“I liked that one.”
“Too drab.” Michael returned it to the hanger and pulled out a woven infinity scarf with every shade of green imaginable melded. He lay in on the sweater, studied it, then nodded.
“You don’t think all of that is… too much?”
“It’s cold, David. Hence, layers. The jeans will hopefully show off your ass to advantage and the greens will bring out the color of your eyes. Now shut up and get dressed, because Prince Charming is due here in ten minutes.”
“What, so now I’m Cinderella?” David crossed to his dresser and pulled a pair of black briefs out of his top drawer, stepping into them and tossing the towel into the hamper.
“If the slipper fits.” Michael climbed back on the bed and Bootsy scooted closer and laid his chin on Michael’s thigh as he watched David get dressed. When David started to tuck his shirt tail into jeans that had been harder to get up his thighs than he liked to acknowledge, Michael made a noise of irritation.
“Don’t tuck it in. You aren’t heading to the office, David.”
“But the shirt is longer than the sweater.”
“I know. Layers, man. Layers. Hurry up or we’ll never get your hair done.”
“My hair?” David pulled the sweater on over his head. “What’s wrong with my hair?”
“Well, right now it looks like it was styled with a hand mixer.”
David gave him an irritated look and pushed the damp blond strands off of his face. “You know what I meant.”
Michael stood, lifting Boots carefully down from the bed, then grabbed David’s arm not nearly as carefully, pulling him down the hall into the faintly steamy bathroom. Boots sat in the doorway, watching avidly.
“I know what you meant,” Michael said, standing behind him and looking at David’s reflection over his shoulder in the mirror. David had to admit he’d been right about the shirt; it did make his eyes look greener than their usual stormy sea foam color. “And for work there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the ‘gee, ma, I combed my hair so nice for my sixth grade picture’ style you usually wear.” David gave him an irritated look. “However, you’re about to go out with a very sexy man.” He looked around the bathroom. “Please tell me you have styling gel somewhere?”
David pointed to a cupboard next to the hundred-year-old claw foot tub. “In there.”
Michael opened it. “If I thought for one second I could get away with it, I’d unhook this tub and carry it out over my shoulder.”
“There’s a mental image I want to savor,” David quipped.
“Shut up.” Michael came back to him, a large can of thirty dollar styling mouse David had used exactly once in his hand.
“That stuff makes my hair stiff,” he complained.
“Dur.” Michael pressed the pump and sprayed an artful spiral in his hand. He set the can aside and rubbed the mouse gently between his palms, then began to massage it into David’s hair. While it was still standing up in artless spikes, he picked up David’s wide toothed comb and began to arrange his hair from the natural part into a rougher, messier style than he usually wore. He worked carefully, the tip of his tongue between his teeth, then paused studying David’s head carefully. “Okay, you’re done.”
David looked in the mirror, his nose wrinkled. “It looks like I just woke up.”
“Exactly!” Michael grinned in triumph. “Now, go put on your shoes. And don’t wear those ugly loafers. Put on those sexy half boots you’ve worn like… once.”
“Those loafers were expensive,” David griped, heading back towards his bedroom.
“Let me guess; Trevor picked them out.”
David stopped and turned back. “How did you know that?”
“Because they look like something he’d wear.”
David vowed to wear the ‘sexy half boots’ more often and retire the loafers.
The doorbell rang and David stiffened as Boots ran toward the door, barking brightly. David looked at Michael, panic flashing through him.
“Go finish getting ready,” Michael said. “I can entertain him for five minutes. And spritz some cologne on before you come out.”
David rushed into the bedroom. He heard Michael, then a responding deep voice. Pleasure made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end and he quickly put on socks and the black boots. Slipping into the jacket he hesitated over the scarf, but then looped it over his head, haphazardly arranging its folds. Michael clearly knew more about dressing stylishly than he did. He was about to leave the room when he remembered Michael’s prompt and picked up a bottle of cologne from his dresser and added one short spritz. He wasn’t much for colognes, but this one was a subtle blend of cedar and musk and he liked it. More nervous than he’d anticipated, he took a deep breath and walked out of his room.

denise review

Diana Copland was new to me as an author, but I loved the premise of starting again, after such an ugly breakup. Finding love where you don’t expect it, is one of my favorite tropes, and this one is perfect.

I really appreciated that the author did not have these men fall instantly in love. They needed time. time to learn about each other. Time for David to trust Jackson, but most importantly, time to trust himself and see himself as a worthy individual once again. That was hard to do with Trevor hanging out in the woodwork, causing trouble. However, with each successive encounter with people who cared about him, he learned that he was worth every amount of love that he was showered with.

I also like that a few things were left open ended. We didn’t find out one of the little mysteries (which may or may not ever be solved, depending on the author’s concern). And we didn’t have a chance to see what Michael and Gil might grow to be. Ah, but that can always be another book in a series.

The secondary characters, even down to Bootsy all had their own stories that we learned as we went along, and it helped the reader to really see how this community of men could grow and become a family of their own making.

Diana Copland began writing in the seventh grade, when she shamelessly combined elements of Jane Eyre and Dark Shadows to produce an overwrought Gothic tale that earned her an A- in creative writing, thanks entirely to the generosity of an indulgent teacher. She wrote for pure enjoyment for the next three decades before discovering LiveJournal and a wonderful group of supportive fanfiction writers who encouraged her to try her hand at original gay fiction. Born and raised in southern California, Diana moved to the Pacific Northwest after losing a beloved spouse to AIDS in 1995. She lives in eastern Washington with four horribly spoiled cats, near her two wonderful adult children who swear she doesn’t embarrass them. She thinks they’re so cute.

September 20, 2016 by Denise

weight-of-it-allsynopsis

He joins a gym.
Reed Henske is a personal trainer who isn’t sure he’ll ever be ready to date again. He’s sick of guys who are only interested in the perfect body image, never seeing him for who he really is.
As Reed tortures Henry with things like diet and exercise, Henry enamours Reed with recipes and laughter. As the friendship lines start to blur, Henry is convinced there’s no way Thor-like Reed could ever be interested in a guy like him.
Reed just has to convince Henry that life isn’t about reaching your ideal bodyweight. It’s about finding your perfect counterweight.

I absolutely adore N.R. Walker’s books so when it came up for review, I almost wanted to beg for a chance at it. Fortunately, I didn’t have to lol. This story was incredibly sweet and I loved every second of it.
Henry was just dumped by his partner of 8 years because things had just got stagnant. Of course, the ex was rather rude about it saying Henry was old and fat; and at 35, he wasn’t old by any means but he was a bit overweight. It seemed like their relationship was over long before it actually was though and it was good that it ended. It left Henry feeling pretty sorry for himself though and he knew he needed a change. He was heartbroken and had low self-esteem, so he decided to join a gym. Good thing he did, that’s where he met Reed.
I loved Reed. He was patient and encouraging. He was such a good friend to Henry and the two of them were hilarious together. I mean, everything that came out of Henry’s mouth was hilarious, he literally made me LOL several times…. But their banter and flirty-ness, their friendship and the way they encouraged each other. That’s what I liked. They didn’t automatically jump into anything, they got to know each other and got comfortable with each other. Henry got to realize some things about himself and about his previous relationship that he needed in order to get over it and heal from it. He learned to accept himself the way he was accept that Reed liked him for who he was too.
They were seriously, so very perfect together. There wasn’t drama and angst in this book. There was no exes that came out of the woodwork and caused trouble or tried to be snarky and petty and mean. Although it was nice when they ran into him at the grocery store and he got to see how happy Henry was and how hot his new guy was…. That’s always satisfying lol , but even Henry was mature about it and it wasn’t about bitterness and hurt feelings, he was a good guy like that, and Henry just wanted him to be happy because, he, himself was happy….with Reed.
I also loved all the friends, Anika and her boyfriend Sean; Henry’s co-workers who were so supportive and nice and Reed’s best friend Emily… I wish we’d have gotten to meet Reeds mom, as she sounded like a nice lady and I also wish Henry’s mom would have gotten to meet George Clooney LOL, I can see where Henry gets his sense of humor and lack of flitter from.
Overall, I adored this entire story from start to finish. It was entertaining and hopeful and sweet. I wouldn’t mind reading more about these two and their crazy made family.

denise review

I haven’t read anything by Rowan McAllister before so I had no real expectations going into reading Power Bottom? other than a book about a guy finding his self esteem after the a-hole ex dumps him for something better. This came through with some additional elements that I certainly wasn’t expecting. There elements of intrigue, danger, a grumpy old man (because that always makes for a good story for me!) and a man who hadn’t stayed in one place for very long since he was 15.

It took a lot of nuts for Adrian to go back to that bar after all his ex had said to him. Even knowing that Wyatt had made his desires very clear, with the ringing taunts in his ears, it would take anyone an enormous amount of bravery to step outside his comfortable box, and embrace a moment that he never had, a situation he couldn’t anticipate, and feelings he never expected.

Adrian’s emotions were real. These were the emotions of someone, of anyone, who lost all faith in themselves. His confidence was shot, and yet he stepped up, going after what he wanted, and seeing it through.

These two men were able to connect, slowly at first, beyond their sexual relationship. The secrets between them were not insurmountable, and as a reader, they were entirely believable from the perspective of a new relationship.

The ending was fast paced, exciting, and involved a lot of danger for everyone. What a great way to continue to see Adrian’s transformation from the meek accountant with little self esteem, to a man who was willing to stand up and fight for the love he’d earned.

Whit by Cora RoseNew release and review!Whit by Cora Rose was my first book by her and I believe her first book. And I was really impressed. It's not easy to find a first book that I don't nit pick. But I really enjoyed it and she has been quite the prolific writer since.Caleb is the same story told from Whit's point of view. (Whit was Caleb's point of view)This is a good young adult (21ish) romance, opposites attract, gay for you, rich boy/poor boy...all the tropes. It was fun to read the story from Whit's POV. How he was really feeling about Caleb, about meeting family, about dealing with his own family, etc. And to hear how dirty his mind really was since he's so buttoned up (figuratively) to the world.I loved seeing Caleb's family just immediately accept him as part of the family. Jokes, hugs and all.If you enjoyed Whit, you'll enjoy Caleb. Same story, different perspectives.Do I need all of her books to have this companion piece? Nah. But I'm glad I revisited these guys.4 Pieces of Eye Candy ... See MoreSee Less

✨EXCERPT: CALEB by @coraroseauthor releasing April 24th! #PreOrderNowbooks2read.com/u/4En91A I shake my head, even though it is. I feel like my heart is being ripped from my body. The choice I have to make. Is it even a choice? “I…I overreacted. I’m…I’ll be fine,” I tell him, clutching at his hand and turning it to kiss that rough palm. Because I have to be fine with whatever I choose. And I don’t know if I can choose a future with him. Not after everything I’ve been through. My parents owe me for what they put me through. I’ve earned it with my blood and tears. Can I give it all up? For him? Caleb’s thumbs rub over my cheeks. “Okay.” He doesn’t sound convinced. Not that I expect him to. I’m a liar in the worst way. Selfish, thoughtless. He will never forgive me once this is over. My eyes water, and Caleb’s face crumples as he pulls me into his chest and holds me. I should never have let him be my roommate. I should have let him go about his life, never knowing me. It would have been simpler, better. But I was too greedy. Wanted him too much. And now look what I’ve done. I’m set to ruin him. I need to pull away before I do more damage. I need to end this. Soon, I tell myself. Just one more day. Let me have one more day.#mmromance #corarose The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less
