Chance at Life Trilogy by Havan Fellows : Reviews Book 1 and 2

chancesynopsis

chance at trustChance at Trust:

The strength to walk away from an abusive long-term relationship proves Em is a survivor. But surviving isn’t necessarily living, and Em has created a life on a plateau of his own making, not even entertaining the idea of a new boyfriend. When he shows interest in a very sexy barista, his best friend sees a chance to open Em’s eyes to the possibilities in life.

Penn couldn’t help his double and triple take when the sexy man walked into his mother’s coffee shop. Priding himself on always remaining calm and collected in all situations, Penn is surprised by the strength of his attraction for this stranger. When the stranger’s loud-mouthed friend proposes a way for Penn to see Em again, he takes it.

While Em comes with baggage—his eyes tell a story of pain and distrust—Penn isn’t one to shy away from a challenge, especially when his heart is so quickly getting tied up in the equation, and he’s prepared to break through Em’s walls and give him a chance to trust.

This was my first read by Haven Fellows.   I try to stay away from short reads as I feel there is no way they could give a decent story with only 60 or so pages.   I would like to apologize for my close minded self…..I really enjoyed “Chance of Trust” even though it was a quick read.

Here is who we have for our viewing pleasure…..

Em (short for Emery) –  shy, sexy and dealing with a nasty breakup for last 2yrs.

Penn – funny & gorgeous business man who occasionally steps in as sexy barista.

Joss – Obnoxious, yet funny as hell best friend to Em.

The beginning starts out with Em & Joss, going to into a coffee shop, having a friendly disagreement.    They catch the eyes (and ears) of the patrons, along with one-sexy barista.    Penn overhears the conversation and is immediately drawn to Em.  Em shakes the feelings he gets once he gets a look at Penn and passes it off as being celibate for the last 2 years.    Joss sees the reaction they have to each other and decides to be a sneaky SOB and make a plan of attack on how Penn can get Em on a date.   Joss is hysterical and the way he gets Em to agree is comical.

I really enjoyed get front row seats as Em & Penn go on the dreaded first date.  Em cannot fathom why someone like Penn would want him – feeling as if he would be better off with someone like Joss.   Penn knows what he wants and is quickly falling for Em, but Em is too afraid to let go of the past.   All Penn ask is for Em to trust him…… and with that…… the book ends.    Knowing this is book 1 in a trilogy made it ok to end that way, but I was just getting into it (insert sad face here) *******runs away to start book 2*****

If you are looking for a quick read, that has a good plot and some wonderful characters than I would recommend Chance of Trust, but be prepared to want to start book 2 immediately.

YAY…..Book 2 of the Chance at Life Trilogy….AND of course I immediately starting reading this after finishing book 1.     Chance at Love starts out with Em & Penn being in a relationship since book 1 ended.   I was literally laughing out load with the way Em rambles – I think it is adorable and sweet.   Penn is the ever so serious and fun loving boyfriend, but he is starting to question how he should speak to Em.  (side note: Whoever said verbal abuse is not abuse is completely wrong.  Penn has to deal with how to interact with Em on a daily basis just so he doesn’t set Em back to the horrible time in his life)   The title speaks for itself and we follow Em & Penn as they navigate through the world to try and find what has been missing from both their lives. LOVE!

Their story is sweet and new, but add in Em’s horrible excuse for parents and a deceased great-uncle and things get very interesting.…..NO….I am not giving away a darn thing – YOU need to read it for yourself, but I promise you will be covering your mouth from shock and you will love Em & Penn even more.

This is not standalone book so make sure you read Chance at Trust first!   Again, I will reiterate that this is a quick read, but so worth it.   I am giddy with excitement to read book 3 and hope we do not have to wait long!

Sexual Frankenstein by TC Blue : Book Blast

synopsis

Tony & Darian have been friends and playing together in their band, Sexual Frankenstein, for a few years, and while they really are friends, they’ve never crossed that line — no matter how much they may want to — because of their band and friendship, as well as not thinking the other is interested.

The apparent interest in one of them, from their hot and very glam new singer, brings things to a head as long-buried jealousies push to the fore, leading both Tony and Darian to reevaluate what they already have and what they so desperately want.

This story previously appeared in the Po’boys Anthology, published by Torquere Press.

excerpt

Yeah, the voice was bad enough because it was so good, but even worse was the fact that Andy was too fucking good-looking and not at all shy. Andy would never sit around for two years, yearning for someone who had never once seemed to be interested, just because he was too scared to make a move. No, Tony was pretty sure that Andy, with his make-up and highlights, his dramatic wardrobe and even more dramatic nature, would just stroll up to whoever caught his eye and say something to make that person laugh. Something to make their blue eyes shine and crinkle at the corners. Something to have that person’s slightly wavy, collar-length dark-blond hair moving wildly while that same person’s soft-looking, pink-lipped mouth opened in a grin to reveal almost perfect teeth, aside from the one lateral incisor on the left that was crooked and overlapped that left front tooth just enough to be cute and quirky rather than snaggly.960x350

Add in the stage moves that Andy somehow kept managing to pull off without stumbling or tripping over his own feet — or any of the numerous cables covering the stage — and Tony definitely hated the bastard. More than hated him when the jerk took each and every opportunity to maneuver over to Darian’s side and rub up against him, singing into his eyes, looking wicked and delicious. Eight times so far, because Tony was keeping count, and Darian didn’t seem to mind even a little, damn it.

My own fault. Should have manned up and taken my shot before, and now it’s too late. I’m a fucking idiot. And how appropriate was it that the next song on their playlist was the old Cinderella ballad “Don’t Know What You Got”? Not that Tony had ever broken anyone’s heart, but he totally understood the emotion behind the chorus.

Maybe I’m jumping the gun here. What are you into?

Nathan wasn’t quite sure how to answer that. He leaned back against the kitchen counter and stared at the keypad foBannerTemplate (1)r a second before responding. Guys?

Ding…. I’m literally shaking my head at you right now….

Ding…. Josh instantly followed up his last text. I meant what turns you on about a guy. Eyes? A nice ass? I need to know what I’m working with here.

Nathan felt like the entire world could see his words as he typed his response. I think men’s feet are sexy.

Ding…  Josh responded, apparently not fazed at all by Nathan’s answer. All right then, let’s start at the toes and work our way up.

Character Interview Questions

  • Now that you’ve gotten together, what comes next? “Meeting the family!” Nathan’s own family wasn’t a fan of him so he didn’t have high hopes for meeting David’s. (The Seattle Chronicles: Say it with Ink, you will get to see Nathan meet the family.)
  • What was the hardest thing for you to overcome that you didn’t expect to be an issue? “Dating a hot guy. Since I never thought a hot guy would date me in the first place.
  • Who or what makes you laugh out loud? “Josh. Every time.”
  • What is your favorite ice cream flavor? “Dairy hates me”
  • What movie will you watch over and over again? “Well I’m not sure if I’d watch it over and over but I definitely have to watch Poltergeist now, to see why David hates clowns.”

denise review

Okay, I have to admit that the title of this book intrigued me to no end. I mean how could you title something “Imposter in Zebra-striped Briefs” and not want to know what the book is about. So, when I saw this blog tour, I jumped on it. Glad I did!

This was a fun story, full of little misunderstandings by poor Nathan who was trying to get out from under his mother’s thumb. His entire life he felt inferior, as if he was an embarrassment to his family, and taking the opportunity to come out (again!) by leaving that nest and venturing into life was frightening for him, and yet he jumped in with both feet.

Isn’t that what we would all want to be able to do in that situation? Be strong enough, brave enough, confident enough to do that? I’m sure Nathan would say he wasn’t any of those things, he was frightened to pieces, but that is exactly what made him such a wonderful character. You wanted him to succeed in his new quest, to find his gay side, and enjoy it, and all life had to offer. He was not willing to sit back and wait for life to come to him, he was finally willing to go out and find that life he wanted for himself.

I devoured this book in one sitting, and found myself wanting to know when the next book was coming, which I don’t often do, even with books I love. It’s a novella, so normally I move forward with them, and don’t concern myself with another story. This one, though, had me wanting to know more about Nathan, and the entire crew of guys as they move forward.

Definite 4 pieces of eye candy for the quirky character of Nathan, and his merry friends. Can’t wait for more!

About the author:

I write painfully awkward, usually embarrassing, romance because long confident gazes followed by sexy dancing never happens to me.

I am a native of the Pacific Northwest, and will probably never leave since I’m a hypochondriac sundae, with claustrophobic sprinkles, and a cherry of anxiety on top. I read and write to relax my mind and I love getting lost in someone else’s story, even if it is only for a little while.

Cardeno C. Author Spotlight: Three Novella Reviews

June 22, 2015 by Denise

A Shot at Forgiveness by Cardeno C.

Sometimes to find love, you must first learn forgiveness.

A dozen years, two thousand miles, and a law degree after high school, Rafi Steiner continues to harbor resentment toward Isaac Jones, his childhood bully turned NBA star. When Isaac appears at Rafi’s favorite restaurant acting like a long-lost friend, Rafi bluntly dismisses him.

But Isaac is tenacious and hshot at forgivenesse has his heart set on the grown-up version of the boy he always wanted and never forgot. The way Isaac sees it, he and Rafi are perfect for each other, if only he could sink the most important shot of his life: his one shot at forgiveness.

denise review

This started out feeling somewhat sad. Rafi, when he first sees Isaac after so many years, is filled with anger and hatred. Isaac had bullied him during their years in school together, relentlessly. Rafi saw no reason to reaquaint himself with the man who had tortured him for so many years.

Isaac, however, still had a relentless streak, but this time it was in his pursuit of Rafi. Showing up at his house, entering because he had seen Rafi enter the code, bringing food, and just finding ways to be sweet. And as they began to bond again, Isaac helped Rafi realize that maybe his memories were slightly skewed, and that there were many ways that Isaac had found to protect him.

Isaac was sweet and loving, and turned his life inside out to come back for Rafi. I truly enjoyed watching Isaac break down the walls that Rafi had put up all those years ago.

Places in Time by Cardeno C.

A relationship-challenged actor unexpectedly finds love in the arms of his childhood best friend.

“Sexiest Man Alive” and Golden Globe winning actor Ethan Baker lights up the screen but fizzles in his personal life. When his latest giplaces in ntimerlfriend breaks up with him, Ethan turns to his one “forever” person—Jude Harrison. But as Ethan makes the familiar drive to his best friend’s house, an unexpected detour and a bewildering passenger take him through places in time he’d long forgotten. Suddenly Ethan sees Jude’s actions over the years from a different perspective, but it’s his own reaction that’s the biggest surprise.
denise review

Okay, I will admit, I have a super soft spot for stories that include time travel of some sort. And this hit all my buttons perfectly!

Ethan and Jude had been friends since they were teenagers, but had never ventured past that friend zone. Whenever something happened in Ethan’s life, Jude was the person he turned to. And as a lovely redheaded lady guides Ethan through visions of important events that happened during his life, Ethan learned how much Jude had truly sacrificed for him, and how much Jude truly loved him.

Ethan learned from this, and became aware of what Jude truly meant to him. By growing and seeing the sacrifices, he was able to bring himself to finally love Jude.

I rarely give novellas 5 pieces of eye candy. I am a full length novel kind of girl. That being said, for me a 5 piece of eye candy story is one that I will re-read again, and I imagine this will stay to the top of my TBR for quite a while as a re-read.

All of Me by Cardeno C.

To bond with his destined mate, an Alpha wolf must look past what he sees and trust what he feels.

Bonded by their parents before they were conceived, wolf shifters Abel and Kai adored each other since they were children. As teens, thall of mee two future Alphas took the next step in their bonding process and vowed to remain true to one another until Kai came of age. But when tragedy struck, Abel felt betrayed and ran from Kai instead of completing their mating.

Abel never stops yearning for the man who was supposed to lead by his side and after years without contact, Kai returns, broken and on death’s door. If Abel wants to fulfill their destiny and merge their packs, he’ll need to look past what he saw and trust his heart.

morgan review

Lots of heart wrenching tears, anger and finally happiness for our Alphas. All of the characters were very likable, I just wish we could have seen more from Kai’s perspective. The story felt rushed and I feel it could have been even better if it was a bit longer, but it was a pretty intense little read. The romance was sweet and the story was very well written. I have always liked everything I have read from Cardeno C and All Of Me was a great little way to get though the afternoon.

✨EXCERPT: DON’T FALL by Author E.M. Lindsey releasing July 1st!#PreOrderNowa.co/d/00RZxM7K “Leo,” I murmur. I have no idea what I’m doing. I have no idea what’s meant to come next. All I know is that he wants me and that he fist-fought his own brain to admit it.And I don’t think the moment will last if I hesitate for even a second. This is my first and only chance with him.“Lean back,” I tell him. I have no idea where any of this is coming from, but the way he obeys me is fucking heady. It’s going to ruin me for the rest of my life, for any other person I ever sleep with after this.I’m going to leave most of my heart and part of my soul on this bedroom floor, and I won’t be coming back for it.Leo stares up at me under his long, dark lashes. He’s the same man I’ve always seen: shattered, exhausted, shaped by injury and grief. The man who doesn’t believe he deserves a second happily ever after. But he’s also something else now.Not quite mine, but I’m allowing myself to say he is, only for this moment.Lifting higher onto my knees, my hands creep along his thighs and I begin to tug the robe open. He doesn’t stop me. He watches with fevered eyes, one turned in slightly, but still so fucking focused on the way I’m touching him.I’m terrified something I say or do is going to break this spell and he’s going to banish me from this space, so I take my time drawing the tie on his robe open so I can see all of him.And every inch is fucking gorgeous.#emlindsey #mmromance The Author Agency ... Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
✨TEASER: DRIPPED by @charlienwrites releasing July 9th!#PreOrderNowmybook.to/lickittwoWhy you need to #ONECLICK this book…🍦Boss x Employee🍦Hooking Up For Stress Relief🍦“Just For The Summer”🍦Late Night Kitchen Dates🍦Friends To Lovers🍦Oops We Caught Feelings🍦Supportive & Nosy Friends🍦Pet Names🍦Spicy & Sweet🍦MM romanceFulfilling my childhood wish of opening an ice cream shop is meant to be a dream come true, not a stress-inducing nightmare. And it’s not meant to make my friends concerned for my health either. But I’ll be fine! All we have to do is survive the summer and then I’ll be able to breathe again. My employee Owen has a different idea, though. He’s seen me watching him swim every morning, and he knows I think he’s ridiculously hot, so he proposes a simple solution to my stress: a summer-long, no-strings hook-up arrangement. It’s the perfect plan on paper. Except, the longer summer goes on, the more I’m developing feelings for the sunshine swimmer who loves my dream as much as I do. But I can’t tell him that. Because Owen doesn’t plan to stay. And I can’t ask him to. Even if letting him walk away would be the worst decision I’ve ever made. Meet Darcy and Owen in the second book of the Lick It! series, set around an artisan ice cream parlour on the Yorkshire coast. It features a stressed out shop owner and his very laid back employee who’s determined to help his boss relax, a ‘just for the summer’ hook-up, late night kitchen dates, friends to lovers, oops we caught feelings (but we’re not talking about it), supportive and nosy friends, pet names, delicious ice cream, and plenty of sweetness and spice. ✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up to review this awesome release: bit.ly/drippedsignup#charlienovak #mmromance The Author Agency ...
