new release

Apex Predator (The Game Series Book 11) by Cara Dee: New Release Review

February 8, 2023 by Denise

The Game Series • Book 11 • Primal Play • MMMM • D/s • Second Chances • Hurt Comfort • Vacation Romance
Pack your sunscreen and strap in for a wild ride and a kinky vacation that doesn’t go as planned.

Lane Sawyer had no complaints. Not really, anyway. After all, he’d just been invited to spend a week down in sunny Florida with his amazing boyfriend Macklin and some of his kinkster buddies. That was exactly what Lane needed. Uncomplicated fun and the promise of no drama—and hopefully a close encounter or two with the apex predator of the Everglades, the Burmese python. He loved, loved, loved reptiles.

But Florida was home to more than one apex predator. When Lane arrived, he found himself face-to-face with their host for the week, his high school girlfriend’s dad. The man who’d once made Lane realize he was into men.

Macklin McKenna couldn’t wait to get away. The problem was, he needed a vacation from himself more than DC. But maybe a week in South Florida with his friends and his adoring boyfriend Lane could distract him from the fact that he was never getting over the man he was still technically married to.

Unfortunately, Macklin’s friends were fed up with his personal agony, and they’d ensured another apex predator was on his way down South.

The Game Series is a BDSM series where romance meets the reality of kink. Sometimes we fall for someone we don’t match with, sometimes vanilla business gets in the way of kinky pleasure, and sometimes we have to compromise and push ourselves to overcome trauma and insecurities. No matter what, one thing is certain. This is not a perfect world—and maybe that’s why the happily ever after feels so good.

The characters in the Game Series cross over in multiple books, as we follow not only new love interests but the background friendships and dynamics of a thriving kink community. The story of Lane, Ty, Macklin, and Walker begins here—but if you’re interested in secondary characters and the Mclean House journey, you won’t regret starting at the beginning.

Amazon – Kindle Unlimited – All Regions

I’ve really enjoyed this series. Some books more than others, of course. But they are always entertaining. And while I liked this one, it is probably my least favorite of the series. Too much and yet not enough.

The too much to start. There was a lot of reptile talk. Like, a lot. And I get it. That was part of the story, the guys going to the Florida everglades to hunt and kill invasive species. But I know more about snakes than I need to.

The not enough. Not enough GAME. They are also down there to get their kink on. And what the Doms have planned just isn’t enough. It was fun for sure, but not nearly enough.

The different dynamics is interesting. Lane and Macklin are boyfriends but not super kinky with each other. Macklin is still in love with his husband, but they only get along while they are in a kink setting. And Ty. He won’t put a label on himself (his prerogative), but he is very Dom like and toppy. He was the lone wolf at this gathering, but certainly doesn’t stay that way.

Which makes me growly because something something, I don’t do spoilers, but omg really?

There were a lot of people to keep track of. Besides those 4 there are 2 more triads. And since they are all together you do have to keep track. It made my head spin a bit.

It was an easy read, moved some plot along (mostly Macklin and Walker), sexy times and snakes. And iguana. And giant monitors. Shudder.

You should read it if you are invested in the series, but it’s kind of a meh from me.

“Are you okay?” Luis asked.

Charles sighed. “Sorry. I’m a bit nervous, I guess.”

The laughter that came from Luis made Charles jump. “What?” He frowned.

“You’re Charles Worthington,” Luis explained. “Nothing gets to you. I’ve watched you swagger around the world for fifteen years.”

He didn’t know if Luis was mocking him or not. He didn’t like it. “I’m not sure if you got the memo,” he muttered. “There’s new management in town.”

The jovial expression dropped from Luis’ face. “I’m sorry, Charles. I didn’t mean to laugh. Of course I know how the last few years have been for you. Damn, we seem to have a habit of saying the wrong things.”

He sipped his coffee thoughtfully. Charles breathed a sigh of relief that he didn’t grimace after.

“I think we’re being too careful around each other,” Charles declared.

“Too careful?” Luis replied, shocked.

“Yes,” Charles continued. “I really want this to work. Meera and Barnaby have taken a chance on me, and I want to repay them. You have contract negotiations this year.”

He noticed Luis bristle at this, but it wasn’t a secret.

“And you think we’re trying to be sickly sweet to make it happen?” Luis considered this. “Well, we’ve made a right fuck-up of that.”

I have written for as long as I could write. In fact, before, when I would dictate to my auntie. I love to read, and I love to create worlds and characters.

I live in the English countryside. When I’m not writing, I like to get out there and think through the next scenario I’m going to throw my characters into.

Inspiration can be found anywhere, on a train, in a restaurant or in an office. I am always in search of the next character to find love in one of my stories. In a world of apps and online dating, it is important to remember love can be found when you least expect it.

A Different Kind of Love by Nicola Haken: Release Blitz with Teaser

February 1, 2023 by Denise

.                              .

Despite growing up without it, William Walker knows all about love. He loves his wife. He loves his children. He loves the cat. He has the perfect family, and all he had to do to get it was push aside one pesky little feeling.

Unfortunately, love doesn’t pay the bills.

Following redundancy, an opportunity thrusts the amiable electrician into a world he’s only seen on the big screen, a world he’s now a part of creating. As a spark on a movie set, William is enthralled by the challenge. The freedom. The possibilities. And, in particular, by one very charismatic actor…

Laurence Cole.

The trouble with Laurence is that he makes that pesky feeling resurface. Worse, the longer he sticks around, the stronger it grows, the more it changes. Into what, William doesn’t know. It’s not love. William Walker knows all about love.

Unless…

It’s a different kind of love.

David was sitting in Zaphod’s Restaurant, waiting for his Big Breakfast of three eggs, three pieces of bacon, and the best home fries he’d had in his forty-four years. That was when his cellphone rang.

Ivy sat across from him, telling a story about a client who wanted a photo shoot with a leopard-print background, while wearing that same leopard print, and she’d had to perfectly align the two to fit the creative brief. Her mouth hung open midword, and David glanced at his phone.

It was a Montreal number, so it had to be Nicolas Leduc.

“Sorry,” he said. “I have to take this.” Then, into the phone, “Hello?”

“Yeah, is this David?” The voice on the other end didn’t sound French at all, more like a midrange California accent.

“Yeah. Is this Nic?”

“Listen, I’m having second thoughts.”

David’s heart sputtered. His eyes must have widened because Ivy leaned closer, making a circle with her hand like she needed more information. GQ had hired him to write an article about Nicolas Leduc, a twenty-six-year-old Québécois director who everyone expected to be nominated for an Academy Award. The Canadian committee still had to choose his film as the country’s foreign language entry, but Leduc had won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, so it seemed like a formality. David had a last-call notice from his landlord on his table back home, the result of a freelancing dry spell, and the GQ article was the only income standing between himself and eviction.

“Why?” he said. “It’ll be fine. I’m heading out there today.”

“I’m just not that into doing interviews right now, that’s all.”

David stammered and found his words. “But it’s great publicity. It’s exactly what you need leading up to the awards. It’s a major magazine.”

“I know.”

Leduc went silent on the other end, and David imagined a clock ticking. This was the second conversation he’d ever had with Leduc outside of email. The first was when he got his hands on a press pack for Leduc’s latest film, Elle, and called the number. Instead of getting a public relations person, he got Leduc’s personal cell. Leduc had been riding north in the passenger seat of a convertible at the time. Through the howl of the wind, he’d agreed to an interview scheduled for some time next month. Now, that interview was tomorrow.

“We’ll go at your pace,” David said. “Whatever you want to talk about, we’ll talk about. It’ll be great. I promise.”

During the next pause, the server brought their breakfast, and David smiled and waved his hand before she walked away. “It’ll be great,” he repeated.

“Okay. But I don’t want to meet at my place. I want to meet at my favorite restaurant. It’s called Les Crêpes, near Mount Royal. You can google it, right?”

“Yeah, yeah, I can google it.” David searched his pocket for a pen but didn’t have one, so he repeated it. “Les Crêpes. Same time?”

“One p.m. See you then.” And with that, Leduc hung up.

David exhaled. “Jesus. I thought he was going to cancel.”

Ivy smirked, tapping some salt onto her home fries. “He’s difficult. Terry says he is.”

Terry was Ivy’s new husband, a camera operator who worked on Canadian movies and TV shows. His last job had been on a Sarah Polley film. Ivy’s first husband had been David.

“He’s flighty, I guess,” she continued. “He’s demanding, and he changes his mind a lot.”

“Well, he can’t change his mind about the fucking article.” David stabbed his eggs and put a forkful in his mouth. He was thankful Ivy still did breakfasts with him. Terry came sometimes, too, and sat, quiet and polite, as they talked about their families or the days when they’d worked in the same Toronto Sun newsroom. When David first made eye contact with Terry in one of Zaphod’s emerald-green booths, he’d watched him for some sign of jealousy.

Terry had just smiled and asked questions like Who will be in your next article? Ivy had told him that David was gay. She’d never specified, but it was inevitable. David had told Ivy himself in the last year of their marriage as they’d sat on a bench in a park near the Danforth.

I’ve never dated a guy. I’ve never kissed a guy. But I’m forty-four. I know.

“Leduc will be an interesting article,” David said. “Have you seen any of his films?”

“Oh, yeah. His films are great. Which ones have you seen?”

“All of them. Research. I’d seen a couple already. I think, The Key to Infinity.”

“Everyone’s seen that one.”

Leduc had seven films so far, starting with the one he made when he was seventeen that premiered at the Director’s Fortnight at Cannes. He’d released them at a nearly annual clip ever since—cascading dominoes of stories about a young gymnast who was transgender; dueling mothers wanting to take control of a child; a mathematical prodigy who holed himself away, à la the Unabomber, and established a romantic relationship with the kindergarten teacher living next door. Each film included a colorful montage that made audiences wipe away tears.

David had seen Elle in a tiny art house theater at Yonge and Eglinton, sitting in the back with his long legs stretched out, looking over fifteen heads in front of him. When the gymnast, Persephone, broke down in a hospital hallway, collapsing from emotional exhaustion, he’d folded and unfolded the napkin in his hand, tightening his jaw to prevent tears. When the lights came on, he’d wished Greg was there.

Up To Snow Good: An MM Christmas Romance by Charlie Novak: Audiobook and New Release Review

January 25, 2023 by Denise

.                                .

This Christmas, Trouble Tastes Like Chocolate

Maximillian Arthur Felstead is up to no good.

Having taken it upon himself to plan an anniversary surprise for his brother and his fiancé during their annual December ski trip, Max realises nothing happens quickly this close to Christmas. Deciding chocolate is the answer, Max accidentally incurs the wrath of chocolatier, Luca, who’s having a pre-Christmas nightmare of his own.

Luca is short staffed and short on patience, and he isn’t enamoured with Max’s clueless demands, even if he is utterly gorgeous. So when Max reaches out to apologise, Luca can’t help but be drawn in by his charm and Max’s offer of help, especially when their chemistry is hot enough to melt the ice on Mont Blanc.

With their time together running out, can a little Christmas magic help Max and Luca find what they’ve been searching for?

Up to Snow Good is a 49,000-word, low-angst MM contemporary Christmas romance featuring snow-topped mountains, Christmas market cuteness, delicious chocolate, and plenty of sweet, steamy moments.

Audible

This was just a fun, fluffy, enjoyable listen. I really like Dan Calley’s narration, as his accents really hit the mark for me. However, in the end, it’s the story that has to work best, right? And this one does for me.

It’s a holiday book (yes, I like to read/listen to them at any time of year), that has Max surprising his brother and best friend with a surprise during their ski trip. Initially, Max doesn’t make the best impression on Luca, in his chocolate shop. He does end up going back and apologizing, and once Luca has a spare minute, they fall into bed, and begin to have fun together. (Side note, I’d like to see the Christmas market).

Luca, after his cousin flakes out on him, is doing his best to keep his shop running, with the help of his snarky assistant, but is on a short timeline for the holidays and cannot seem to work enough. Once Max offers to help, it doesn’t solve the problem, but helps Luca immensely and allows them a little more time together. It also gives Max time to think about what he wants out of his life.

There were some funny parts (I haven’t heard “butt munch” in a long time and it made me lol), but it was mostly just a sweet story, with some heat, and a lovely MC in Max that you just want to give a huge hug to, as he decides how he wants to move forward with his life. Spoiler alert: there is an HEA 🙂

Sit down for a bit to read this, have a cup of hot chocolate in honor of Luca, and enjoy this one.

Aisle Be There (Runaway Grooms Book 1) by Charlie Cochet: Release Day Review

January 25, 2023 by Denise

They say your wedding day is the beginning of your happily ever after.

But I’m pretty sure they never stood on a sweltering Florida beach getting ready to promise forever… only to change their mind at the last minute and be assaulted by a crustacean while fleeing the scene.

Once upon a time, I was a respected Navy officer. A guy who made a career out of managing chaos.

Now, I am the chaos, a groom on the run from my ex-fiance and his dad’s goons. Oh, and the guy driving the getaway car? That would be my ex-boyfriend, Jett.

Gorgeous. Brilliant. A guy I couldn’t help falling in love with twelve years ago.

The guy I realize I’ve always loved.

Did I mention he’s also a famous rock star on a sold-out summer tour?

This situation has disaster written all over it. But if I can manage the chaos, maybe I’ll get my happy ending after all.

Amazon – Kindle Unlimited – All Regions

I’m a big fan of Charlie Cochet. I was hooked from the first page of THIRDS Hell and High Water. And I’ve really enjoyed her other series. This one is loosely connected to the Kings Security series, which is fun and you don’t need to have read them to read this.

But…

The contemporary series are just starting to look too much alike to me. Was it a fun book? Sure! Likeable characters? Yup. Laugh out loud moments? Absolutely. And it was a good second chance romance.

There was also a fear of certain animals, pratfalls, 80’s music and a lovable main character who seems to constantly be in competition with his siblings. I’ve read that. From this author. A few times.

I did really enjoy the second chance romance. Jett and Gage dated before Jett was the lead singer of a famous band. His dead father’s famous band. By complete coincidence, Gage ends up in Jett’s arms again. And he agrees to go on tour with them for a month as Jett’s (fake) boyfriend.

Jett and Gage together were fun. There’s no doubt about that. They seem to have picked up right where they left off. Except they have the bonus of some maturity and experience. Even with that maturity and experience they do dumb things. No spoilers. But it’s really time to move past that plot device. Especially men who are pushing 40 who know better.

A fun, enjoyable read. Just don’t expect anything new.

Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
My review of:Don't Fall by EM LindseyI liked this book. I enjoyed the fact that one character is a virgin at almost 30 and the other is a widower with a TBI at 27. Both have trauma inside and out and they just...belong together.North is a nurturer. Leo wants to be independent. North bought a foreclosure fixer upper without much time or money to fix it up. Leo bought a turn key house with money he got from life insurance and a legal settlement. North is always trying to help his family. Leo and his brother basically have no relationship with their parents. North befriended crows. Leo has fish.See where I am going with this? But somehow it works. After they get past all of the assumptions each made about the other. They had fun banter, a lot of chemistry and I just really liked both guys. The best friend's brother angle is always fun too. Waiting for the protective older brother to find out. Tee hee. There was a bunch of set up for other stories with the different characters we met in the book. And honestly, they all sound interesting and fun. If they go where I think some of them are going. So yes, jump into this new series in a small town outside of Boston.*quick aside because you know I am picky AF. At the beginning, the alarms go off at the firehouse and North takes his damned time going from the parking lot talking to someone to inside and suited up ready to go. Not cool man, not cool. Basically I didn't find most of the firehouse stuff all that believable.4 pieces of eye candy One click here: a.co/d/03n5SDglThe Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less

✨Let’s celebrate! It’s release day for DON’T FALL by @authoremlindsey! Grab it in KU!#OneClickNowa.co/d/00RZxM7KWhy you need to #ONECLICK this book…🔥Enemies to Lovers🔥Forced Proximity🔥Only One Bed🔥Praise Kink🔥Grumpy/Sunshine🔥Grumpy falls first🔥Hate Sex🔥Best Friend's Brother🔥MM Romance That’s it. My neighbor has to die. There’s no other way around it. The man must be killed—and I’ll even find a way to do it gently, but this cannot go on.Okay, maybe I’m a bit dramatic, but living next to my brother’s best friend who decided to befriend the crows that spend all week spreading garbage across my lawn is not what I signed up for.I wanted quiet.I wanted peace.I wanted to stop fantasizing about the gorgeous man I couldn’t stand.Unfortunately for me, North is a big presence with an annoyingly sunny smile and a way of making life sound like it’s worth living. And as a widower who wants to spend the rest of my life wallowing, the last person I want around is one who makes me question my new life’s purpose. But these feelings can’t be real, can they? I had my great love, and I lost him. So that’s supposed to be it for me.Isn’t that the way things go?I can’t seem to stay away from North, even when I know I should. And when he starts to make me feel like maybe there’s another happily ever after out there, I find that as cautious as I’ve taken each step, I’m on the verge of falling once more.Don’t Fall is the first book in the small town, enemies to lovers, heavy yearning, MM romance series, Storm Season. It features a virgin EMT whose smile is hiding a lot of things, a disgruntled, grieving writer who just wants solid sleep and a good meal, neighborhood crows wreaking havoc, cooking lessons, hurt/comfort, and a toe-curling happily ever after.#newbookalert #emlindsey #mmromance The Author Agency ... Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
✨EXCERPT: DON’T FALL by Author E.M. Lindsey releasing July 1st!#PreOrderNowa.co/d/00RZxM7K “Leo,” I murmur. I have no idea what I’m doing. I have no idea what’s meant to come next. All I know is that he wants me and that he fist-fought his own brain to admit it.And I don’t think the moment will last if I hesitate for even a second. This is my first and only chance with him.“Lean back,” I tell him. I have no idea where any of this is coming from, but the way he obeys me is fucking heady. It’s going to ruin me for the rest of my life, for any other person I ever sleep with after this.I’m going to leave most of my heart and part of my soul on this bedroom floor, and I won’t be coming back for it.Leo stares up at me under his long, dark lashes. He’s the same man I’ve always seen: shattered, exhausted, shaped by injury and grief. The man who doesn’t believe he deserves a second happily ever after. But he’s also something else now.Not quite mine, but I’m allowing myself to say he is, only for this moment.Lifting higher onto my knees, my hands creep along his thighs and I begin to tug the robe open. He doesn’t stop me. He watches with fevered eyes, one turned in slightly, but still so fucking focused on the way I’m touching him.I’m terrified something I say or do is going to break this spell and he’s going to banish me from this space, so I take my time drawing the tie on his robe open so I can see all of him.And every inch is fucking gorgeous.#emlindsey #mmromance The Author Agency ...
