Sigh…. I just love every single thing I’ve ever read by this author…

Cal and Troy have been best friends since they were teenagers. Having feelings for one another but to worried about ruining their friendship, neither of them wanted to say anything. Sure, there were times when both of them wanted to say something, but it never seemed like the right time. Now, Cal and Troy and a couple of their other friends a camping trip to just get away for a while.

Both of them are finally single at the same time and their friends use that as an excuse to get them alone together for the weekend. Seems like everyone realizes how they feel about each other, except each other…. So, at the scheming of the friends, they set off on their fishing weekend alone together.

It starts out just the same as I suspect every other trip goes; they hang out, fish, camp and all that… but then one notices the way the other looks at him and thinks, hmmm.. maybe our friends are right… They joke back and forth about hookin’ up, like guys do, but suddenly there’s a seriousness along with it… THEN, a night in the tent together proves to tempting to not try…

Of course, when they come back, some doubt and worries have things awkward for a time, but everything works out in the end; they’re too cute together not to.

I’m such a sucker for a HEA and these guys got a good one. Best friends to lovers is the best. I could have read pages and pages more about these two, and when they finally get together… shew! Hot!

denise review

Why do I continue to allow N.R. Walker to surprise me? There has not been one of this author’s books that I have been disappointed in, even ones that I would likely not have picked up if someone hadn’t said “read this!” And yet, I continue to be surprised by this author each and every time I read her books. She writes with such passion, and shows such character growth, that I wonder if she has a degree in human psychology, and if not, then she truly understands human emotion.

This book could have easily been a trope of “man finds he’s switched at birth, and falls in love with the man he was switched with”, which would have left me the feeling of a Hallmark movie. Instead, it was a story about family. It was about how one event, more than two decades before can determine family, how you see family, and what makes a family whole.

Switched was not your average male/male romance. It was a story focused on the growth of one character, Israel, after a circumstance that is almost impossible to understand all of the ramifications of. It also happened to have a hot, sexy lawyer who Israel realized he was in love with…and damn, those were some HAWT sex scenes.

In the end, though, to see how Israel found a way to love his parents, and to love himself, as well as letting in the love of another family, was heart warming. Israel worked hard to get there. It wasn’t a snap fix, as can sometimes happen in similar books. He was willing to put in the effort, and believe in what he could see of himself, and his family. The author gave the reader what they needed to really understand this character, time to learn where he came from, time to see where he was headed, and how he made himself get there. The journey the author brings you on sets you up from the beginning to understand how much change Israel needs in his life to feel whole, and to feel loved.

I cried several times in the book. Sometimes happy tears, sometimes tears of sadness, but as always the tears that N.R. Walker can so often bring to my eyes. She works magic in books that I only find with a few authors. I promise I will NEVER doubt again!!!! 🙂

12 Days of Kissmas: N.R. Walker

December 18, 2016 by Denise

TCO is so excited to bring you 12 Days of Kissmas. We have 12 of your favorite authors ahead over the coming days, bringing you beautiful pictures of men kissing that the authors have chosen themselves, along with exclusive posts, excerpts, and giveaways. The idea sprang from a conversation with an author that just turned into a “what if…”, and when I started asking a few authors, they immediately said they were in. Make sure you enter the giveaways, as there are lots of them! Thanks for stopping by, and a HUGE thank you to all the authors for their generosity, and loving spirit. Happy Holidays to everyone!

Affectionate young gay couple kissing together while sitting at their kitchen table in the morning

The pic I’ve chosen is a sweet, innocent kiss. For me, there’s something beautiful about it. Sure, hot and steamy kissing pics are always fun, but a you’re-so-damn-cute-when-you-eat-cornflakes kiss is intimately sweet.

My newest release, Switched, focuses on the evolving relationship between the main character, Israel Ingham, and his best friend, Sam. They’ve been best friends forever. Sam knows all of Israel’s secrets and fears, he knows what makes him laugh, he knows what foods and loves and hates; he knows everything.

Except what turns him on, what he tastes like, what he’s like in bed.

Taking the first step from friends to lovers is always risky, but Israel’s about to learn that the best things in life always are.

Switched will be out on December 27th, exclusive to Amazon.

She is many things; a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer. She has pretty, pretty boys who live in her head, who don’t let her sleep at night unless she gives them life with words.

She likes it when they do dirty, dirty things…but likes it even more when they fall in love.

She used to think having people in her head talking to her was weird, until one day she happened across other writers who told her it was normal.

I absolutely adore N.R. Walker’s books so when it came up for review, I almost wanted to beg for a chance at it. Fortunately, I didn’t have to lol. This story was incredibly sweet and I loved every second of it.
Henry was just dumped by his partner of 8 years because things had just got stagnant. Of course, the ex was rather rude about it saying Henry was old and fat; and at 35, he wasn’t old by any means but he was a bit overweight. It seemed like their relationship was over long before it actually was though and it was good that it ended. It left Henry feeling pretty sorry for himself though and he knew he needed a change. He was heartbroken and had low self-esteem, so he decided to join a gym. Good thing he did, that’s where he met Reed.
I loved Reed. He was patient and encouraging. He was such a good friend to Henry and the two of them were hilarious together. I mean, everything that came out of Henry’s mouth was hilarious, he literally made me LOL several times…. But their banter and flirty-ness, their friendship and the way they encouraged each other. That’s what I liked. They didn’t automatically jump into anything, they got to know each other and got comfortable with each other. Henry got to realize some things about himself and about his previous relationship that he needed in order to get over it and heal from it. He learned to accept himself the way he was accept that Reed liked him for who he was too.
They were seriously, so very perfect together. There wasn’t drama and angst in this book. There was no exes that came out of the woodwork and caused trouble or tried to be snarky and petty and mean. Although it was nice when they ran into him at the grocery store and he got to see how happy Henry was and how hot his new guy was…. That’s always satisfying lol , but even Henry was mature about it and it wasn’t about bitterness and hurt feelings, he was a good guy like that, and Henry just wanted him to be happy because, he, himself was happy….with Reed.
I also loved all the friends, Anika and her boyfriend Sean; Henry’s co-workers who were so supportive and nice and Reed’s best friend Emily… I wish we’d have gotten to meet Reeds mom, as she sounded like a nice lady and I also wish Henry’s mom would have gotten to meet George Clooney LOL, I can see where Henry gets his sense of humor and lack of flitter from.
Overall, I adored this entire story from start to finish. It was entertaining and hopeful and sweet. I wouldn’t mind reading more about these two and their crazy made family.

Blood & Milk by N.R. Walker : Pre-Release Day Review, Excerpt and Giveaway

June 21, 2016 by Denise

Title: Blood & Milk
Author: N.R. Walker
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: June 23, 2016
synopsis

Heath Crowley is an Australian man, born with two different coloured eyes and the gift—or curse—of having premonition dreams. He also has nothing left to live for. Twelve months after having his life upended, his dreams tell him where he needs to be. So with nothing―and no one―to keep him in Sydney, he simply boards a plane for Tanzania. Not caring if he lives or dies, Heath walks into a tribe of Maasai and asks to stay. Granted permission, he leaves behind the name and heartbreak of Heath and starts over with the new Maasai name of Alé.

From the day of his birth, Damu has always been an outcast. The son of the chief and brother to the great warrior leader, Damu is reminded constantly that he’s not good enough to be considered a man in the eyes of his people. Ordered to take responsibility for Alé, Damu shares with him the ways of the Maasai, just as Alé shares with Damu the world outside the acacia thorn fence. But it’s more than just a cultural exchange. It’s about trust and acceptance, finding themselves, and a true sense of purpose.

Under the African sky on the plains of the Serengeti, Heath finds more than just a reason to live. He finds a man like no other, and a reason to love.

PROLOGUE

It was twelve months on. A full year had passed, yet my world had stopped completely. The men who stole my life were charged and would serve time for their crime. No one called it a hate crime, but that’s what it was. If I was expecting some sort of finality to come with the court findings, I didn’t get it.
I was still hollow. I was still numb to the world, and I was still alone.
I was also awarded damages, civilian victim and medical.
A nice healthy sum that meant I could pay off my debts after not working for twelve months, and more. Though no amount of money would make this right. No amount of money would bring him back.
My mother came along for the final hearing, though I could only guess why. I had barely spoken two words to her in the last year. Maybe she came so she could vie for the sympathy card with her friends. Or maybe she thought she could have one last twist of the knife…
“Now it’s all over,” she said, nodding her head like her words were wise and final. “You can put all this homosexual nonsense behind you.”
I looked at my mother and smiled. I fucking smiled. I raged inside with a fury to burn the world, and maybe she saw something in my eyes―maybe it was a ferocity she’d never seen before, maybe it was madness―and my words were whisper quiet.
“You are a despicable, bitter human being, and you are a disgrace to mothers everywhere. So, when you go to your church group, instead of praying for my soul, you should be praying for yours. You have only hate and judgement in your heart, and you are doomed to an eternity in hell.” I leaned in close and sneered at her. “And I hope you fucking burn.” I stood up and stared down at her. She was pale and shocked, and I did not care. “If you think my words are cold and cruel,” I added, “I want you to know I learned them from you.”
I walked away, for the final time. I knew I’d never see her again, and I had made my peace with that.
I didn’t care for the money. I didn’t care for anything. I longed for sleep, because in my dreams, I saw him. And that night, almost one year to the day since he was gone, in our too-big bed, in our too-quiet flat, in my too-alone life, I dreamed of Jarrod.
He sat on our bed and grinned. I longed to hear his voice, just once. It’d been a year and I craved the sound of his voice, his touch. But when I reached out for him, even in my dream, as in my waking nightmares, he was gone. I sat up in our bed, reaching out for nothing but air. He was gone, really gone.
But in this dream, on the bed were he’d sat, was a plane ticket. Mr Heath Crowley, it said. One way ticket to Tanzania.

paula reviewNR Walker just blew me away again. She created a stunning place for me to visit for a while. Her characters were incredible. Heath Crowley was such a strong character. After something horrible happens to him he decides to go to a remote part of a country and live with natives, based off a dream. He has courage, heart and compassion and it shows. It shows in his anger about what he perceives as injustice in how Damu is treated by his people. It shows in how he tries to help this village of Maasai people. He starts of so lost and broken, then we get to watch him heal and it is beautiful. We get to see his heart begin to be put back together and watch him fall in love again. Damu was also a brilliantly written character. He is basically relegated to the bottom rung of the group because of something he had absolutely no control off. However, he isn’t angry about it, he just accepts it as the way it is. He still has joy and happiness. He was just what Heath needed. I really like the way he seems to blossom with Heath. I though the book ended exceptionally well, and I really hope that we get another book about these two guys. I would love to get more of their life outside the village.

Whit by Cora RoseNew release and review!Whit by Cora Rose was my first book by her and I believe her first book. And I was really impressed. It's not easy to find a first book that I don't nit pick. But I really enjoyed it and she has been quite the prolific writer since.Caleb is the same story told from Whit's point of view. (Whit was Caleb's point of view)This is a good young adult (21ish) romance, opposites attract, gay for you, rich boy/poor boy...all the tropes. It was fun to read the story from Whit's POV. How he was really feeling about Caleb, about meeting family, about dealing with his own family, etc. And to hear how dirty his mind really was since he's so buttoned up (figuratively) to the world.I loved seeing Caleb's family just immediately accept him as part of the family. Jokes, hugs and all.If you enjoyed Whit, you'll enjoy Caleb. Same story, different perspectives.Do I need all of her books to have this companion piece? Nah. But I'm glad I revisited these guys.4 Pieces of Eye Candy ... See MoreSee Less

The choice I have to make. Is it even a choice? “I…I overreacted. I’m…I’ll be fine,” I tell him, clutching at his hand and turning it to kiss that rough palm. Because I have to be fine with whatever I choose. And I don’t know if I can choose a future with him. Not after everything I’ve been through. My parents owe me for what they put me through. I’ve earned it with my blood and tears. Can I give it all up? For him? Caleb’s thumbs rub over my cheeks. “Okay.” He doesn’t sound convinced. Not that I expect him to. I’m a liar in the worst way. Selfish, thoughtless. He will never forgive me once this is over. My eyes water, and Caleb’s face crumples as he pulls me into his chest and holds me. I should never have let him be my roommate. I should have let him go about his life, never knowing me. It would have been simpler, better. But I was too greedy. Wanted him too much. And now look what I’ve done. I’m set to ruin him. I need to pull away before I do more damage. I need to end this. Soon, I tell myself. Just one more day. Let me have one more day.#mmromance #corarose The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less
