excerpt
Reaching across the empty bed next to me, I rode out the last waves of my dream alone. I could still feel his phantom kiss on my lips and the sensation of a hand stroking along my thigh.
The rest of it was just a blur of emotions and sticky residue on my sheets—though I could guess at it without much effort. FatBoy Newman had been a specter haunting me at work so it was no great leap to assume he’d shouldered his way into my dreams as well960x350.
In fact, he was at the root of my problem: I’d been having a hell of a dry spell.
Four weeks of near misses had done nothing but stoke my bad mood and turn my balls a lovely shade of indigo that matched my jeans…
Four weeks of dashed hopes…
Four weeks since the most romantic kiss of my life…
Four weeks of nothing.
Fuck the South and its mythology of the Southern Gentleman—if FatBoy Newman didn’t stop treating me like a delicate flower and throw me up against a wall soon, I was going to explode.
It was six days until St. Patrick’s Day, and FatBoy had until then to make his move, or I was moving on.

Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: April 25, 2016
synopsis

Martial arts expert Lewis is the kind of bodyguard who slips under most people’s radar. Quiet, reserved, but constantly on alert, he’ll do his job, keep his charges safe, then relax by reading Shakespeare in his spare time.

Alex became the envy of many when he and his fellow bandmates won second place in a huge TV talent show. He has more money than he knows what to do with, no life goals, an ex-boyfriend selling a sex tape and now, someone who wants him dead, or at the very least maimed.

synopsis

Rod Nelson is used to being someone’s good time, and that’s fine with him. Spending his days at his adult toy store, Rods-N-Ends, he never knows who he’ll meet. The second Landon Harrison walks in, he has Rod’s full attention. It seems as if Landon wants him too, so why won’t the man jump in the sack with him already?

Neither man wants something serious, but the more they’re together, the harder it is to keep their hands to themselves, until eventually they stop trying.

But flings between friends are never simple, and as they attempt to shift gears, diving into their first relationship, they’re slammed with setbacks. denise review

Crossroads by Riley Hart is one of my favorite m/m books. Period. I loved it. So, the chance to review Shifting Gears? That was an emphatic yes for me. No question. Riley Hart has an extensive collection of books, under both pen names (she writes under Nyrae Dawn as well), and I haven’t read even half of them, but everything I have read has been so well written, that I have come back to a few of them more than once for a re-read.

Shifting Gears will be no exception. These two men really tried hard to stay friends, okay, well Landon did, Rod, well he just wanted to f**k. 🙂 But they found that they connected as friends, and Landon wasn’t about to lose that. Rod, not used to anyone wanting to actually know him beyond the normal f**k, really was challenged with how to handle that. His father wanted nothing to do with him after he found out he was gay, so why would any other man?

Intimacy issues were all over the place for these two men. Trying to find what would work for them. Could they make this work? I loved that Landon was so determined to have a friend that he worked hard to bring that to life. Teaching Rod to ride a motorcycle. Helping him find one to buy. This was a true friends to lovers scenario, although not in the “traditional” sense.

Of course, with Riley Hart, there is lots of fun, sexy times. I mean with Rod owning a sex shop, it was bound to happen. With quite a bit of cameos from Nick and Bryce, it was great to see how Rod was able to keep that connection with those two after their story moved to HEA.

And this book reminded me a little of a movie…stay for the entire credits at the end, because there is a doozy of a bonus for you, if you do! 🙂

excerpt

Landon pulled softly on his arm again, and Rod got the hint. He kneeled between Landon’s legs, with his knees on the floor. “You’re determined,” Landon told him.

Yes, yes he was. At least when it came to this. “Is that a bad thing?”

Landon smiled. “Hell no. You’ve had my dick hard since the first time I saw you. Easy Ride comes in the mail too, ya know?”

“Aww, so you came to see me?”

“Shut up so I can kiss you.” The look in Landon’s eyes turned dark, hungry, urgent, and he pulled Rod closer, covering Rod’s mouth with his own. His tongue went straight for Rod’s lips, demanding entrance, and Rod gave it easily. He tasted like a mixture of coffee and mint, like maybe he’d had a drink right after brushing his teeth.

Rod slid his hands up Landon’s thighs until he got to the bulge at the apex of them and rubbed his hand over it, feeling the large bump beneath his jeans.

Landon growled into his mouth, making it vibrate through him.

He leaned back, grabbed the bottom of Rod’s shirt and pulled it over his head. “I’m so damned hungry for you. This won’t be slow. It’ll be fast and hard.”

“Were you under the impression that I wanted it slow?”

Grinning, Landon reached around and swatted Rod’s ass. “Let’s go to the room.”

“Why move when we can do it right here?” He didn’t want to give Landon the chance to change his mind. Rod reached under the couch and grabbed a bottle of lube, before pulling a condom from his wallet and tossing both to the couch.

“You keep lube under your couch?”

“I live alone. I can jack off wherever I want. Are we going to talk or do this?” But really, he liked talking to Landon, and if what Landon said was true, he liked talking to Rod as well.

“Fuck now, words later.”

Hell yes. Definitely what he wanted to hear. Rod stood up to take off his jeans. As he worked the button, Landon traced a path across his stomach with his tongue. He nipped at the skin next to Rod’s belly button, just enough to sting before he sucked the skin into his mouth again.

“Oh fuck.” Rod’s bones melted; his knees went weak.

“Get out of those pants before I rip them off of you. Want your ass.”

Rod looked down at him and nodded, letting Landon know he was good to go. Finally, his goddamned fingers started to work and he got his pants unbuttoned and unzipped. Blood rushed through his ears. His cock ached as he pulled down his jeans.

Landon leaned in. “Jesus, you’re leaking like crazy. Look at that fucking wet spot. I want your taste on my tongue again.” And then he nuzzled his face between Rod’s legs, his mouth against the growing spot of pre-come in Rod’s underwear.

“Damn, I’m going to fucking kill you if you make me come too soon.” Even as he spoke, Rod had his hand in Landon’s hair, pushing his face closer to his aching cock.

Landon smacked his ass again, before pulling back. “Get them off.”

There was a slight tingle in Rod’s cheek from the smacks. “You’re naughty, aren’t you?” The thought just made his balls even more heavy and tight.

“For some reason, I doubt I have anything on your level of naughtiness.”

Rod shrugged. “It gives you something to strive for. You can practice on me if you want.”

“I’ll consider it, now get your ass out of your underwear and on my dick.”

Rod’s cock pulsed behind the tightening fabric. “Don’t have to tell me twice.”

Einstein’s Peep Show by Josephine Myles: Release Day Review

February 23, 2016 by Denise

einsteinsynopsis

Nerdy by day, naughty by night!

Nathan Wright has a secret life. During the day he’s a dedicated student, working hard for his maths degree. But times are tough, and in order to make ends meet by night he becomes “Einstein”, wooing punters with his online solo sex show. Still wounded by his last dysfunctional relationship, Nathan’s happy being single. But when his highest tipping client demands it, Einstein has to overcome his social awkwardness to rope in some extra help.

Party boy Rory Jones has never given his geeky neighbour a second glance, but he’s not one to turn down the offer of a free blow job, even when Nathan tells him it’s going online. Once on camera, Rory discovers his exhibitionist streak and the two of them are so hot together, the one-off becomes a regular gig.

But being neighbours with benefits isn’t without its challenges. Nathan’s client keeps wanting more, and he finds himself pushed into a role he’s not prepared for. Meanwhile Rory’s growing affection leaves him worried his ultra-rational lover won’t ever be able to share his emotions. If he and Nathan can’t find something more than great sex in common, they’ll be left with the square root of absolute zero.

This was a cute quick read. It was entertaining without getting too deep.

Nathan Wright is putting himself thru school by working in an online chat room. When his highest paying client asks for something specific Nathan will have to put aside his introvert ways to ask his party-boy neighbor Rory Jones. As one request leads to more, Rory and Nathan realize that first impressions can be deceiving and they have more in common than they thought. Nathan needs to decide whether he can put aside his fear of emotional attachment see where things lead. Rory is struggling to discover if Nathan only likes him in front of the camera because of the money or if his feelings are genuine.

This story was good. The banter back and forth between Nathan and Rory had me laughing out loud at times. If you’re having a bad day this is a great pick me up.

denise review

This is Josephine Myles‘ first venture back to writing since the birth of her son a year ago (she discusses this in more detail in the Author’s Notes at the end of the book). She really ventured out and gave it a go. I really love Jo’s work. She has made me laugh and cry so many times before. One of my all time favorite books in this genre is still How to Train Your Dom in Five Easy Steps (which reminds me, I may need a re-read of that now! 🙂 ). So, I was very excited to be asked to review this new book of hers, and she didn’t disappoint.

This was a fun, flirty, sexy novella (about 1200 locations) that had all the elements that I enjoy about Jo’s books. There was banter, sexiness, great sex scenes, connections between the characters, and a real distinction between the MC’s. You could tell which POV the reader was reading, merely based by the thought process. Nathan had such a scientific mathematical mind, he didn’t understand emotion, had never cuddled. Rory was a cuddler, and had no problems with showing the emotions that he felt, although his concern was whether Nathan actually liked him, or just needed the money that “Big Man” provided.

I enjoyed this novella a lot, and am glad to see that with Einstein’s Peep Show, Jo is jumping back on her writing wagon. She is a talented writer, and so glad to see her able to find her muse again.

English through and through, Josephine Myles is addicted to tea and busy cultivating a reputation for eccentricity. She writes gay erotica and romance, but finds the erotica keeps cuddling up to the romance, and the romance keeps corrupting the erotica. Jo blames her rebellious muse but he never listens to her anyway, no matter how much she threatens him with a big stick. She’s beginning to suspect he enjoys it.

Jo publishes regularly with Samhain, and now has over ten novels and novellas under her belt. Her novel Stuff won the 2014 Rainbow Award for Best Bisexual Romance, and her novella Merry Gentlemen won the 2014 Rainbow Award for Best Gay Romantic Comedy. She has also been known to edit anthologies and self-publish on occasion, although she prefers to leave the “boring bits” of the ebook creation process to someone else. She loves to be busy, and is currently having fun trying to work out how she is going to fit in her love of writing, dressmaking and attending cabaret shows in fabulous clothing around the demands of a preteen with special needs and an energetic toddler.

paula review

This was an intriguing story to read. I think the author did a great job with the plot. I thought Eric and Jake were very well written. I enjoyed the spiritual elements in the book. The author did a good job keeping the story moving and entertaining. I also enjoyed the secondary characters in this story as well. The author did a very good job of dropping little “bombs” on us throughout the story. This is the first I have read by this author but it definately won’t be the last.

excerpt

Heath swallows, playing over an idea that had formed shakily in his head after he saw Frankie, since Art walked through that door and possibly longer without him being fully conscious of it. “Maybe it’s time I was honest. Tell them that I don’t want to marry Ginny or work with my father. Let the pieces fall where they may.”

“You would do that?”

“If it meant being with you, I would do anything.” Heath sits up and the sheets fall to pool around his waist. “I know what I want, now. And it’s you and whatever a future with you brings.”

tco-author interview

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Suzey Ingold, author of Speakeasy.

Hi Suzey, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

Thank you for having me! I’m a writer and linguistics student, currently based in Edinburgh. I’ve been writing for years and had my first short story, The Willow Weeps for Us, published in 2015, in the Summer Love anthology from Duet Books. Speakeasy is about a recent Yale graduate who must discover what he really wants when he meets the owner of a unique Midtown speakeasy in 1920s Manhattan.

  • Tell us something about your character’s friends.

Heath’s best friend Frankie is something of a character. He’s got a large personality and a sharp sense of humor. He’s flirtatious and charming and he cares for Heath very deeply, as though they were family. Heath’s other close friend is his younger sister, Amelia. She teases him something awful, but that’s in her nature. She’s more hotheaded where Heath is calmer, and can be very stubborn when she wants to be.

  • What is your character’s favorite meal? Favorite dessert? Favorite snack food?

Heath’s favorite meal is roast duck; especially the way their cook, Louis, makes it. He has a little bit of a sweet tooth and loves ice cream—his favorite dessert of all is the Brooklyn Bridge ice cream sundae he can get from the soda fountain downtown. There’s chocolate, ice cream, cream, and syrup involved—perfect to satisfy his sugar cravings. If he were hankering for a snack, then he’d stick with the sweet things and have a PB&J sandwich.

  • What activity does your character absolutely hate?

Heath can’t stand athletics. At Yale, his best friend, Frankie, was on the track team and he tried to get Heath involved too—he told him it would be a wonderful way for him to get out of the library, to get some exercise. Heath went once, to appease him, and came out sweaty, red-faced, and sore all over, and swore he’d never do it again. The closest thing to athletics Heath will do is a leisurely stroll through Central Park in the middle of the day.

  • What other author’s book do you think your character would be good in?

I recently finished reading Small Wonders by Courtney Lux, which is also set in New York City, but in the present day. I think Heath could be a great friend to someone like Nate Mackey—although I think he’d be a little alarmed if he met Trip Morgan!

  • What’s your favorite decade and why?

Probably unsurprising given Speakeasy, but it has to be the 1920s. There was magic to that time. The war was over and the Wall Street crash was yet to happen and there was a view that every day should be lived as though it were to be your last. I often wonder if I spend too much time fantasizing of the past, though. There’s a line in one of my favorite movies, Midnight in Paris, that sums up my nostalgia perfectly: “…golden age thinking: the erroneous notion that a different time period is better than the one one’s living in. It’s a flaw in the romantic imagination of those people who find it difficult to cope with the present.”

Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
Shadows Never Lie (Shadow Duet Book 1) by Lark TaylorMy review:Ok, going into this knowing that there is a book 2.....And I just have to start by saying I really appreciated that they are identical twins who don't get along. So often they are BFF and twin telepathy and all that. And it does happen. But not always.I have to admit I was sucked in from the start. Especially since the first chapter was present day and then chapter two starts the back story. Just from chapter 1 I wasn't expecting their younger years to be as they were. And I really wanted to hate Dominick. But once more information about his life came to light AND how he started treating Ryan, I had a soft spot for him. Max (Ryan's twin) on the other hand, can go scratch. It will take a lot for him to redeem himself in book 2 if that even happens.I kind of saw the cliffhanger coming. I still wasn't prepared. Oh my heart just broke. And I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! Good thing book 2 comes out in 2 weeks...4 pieces of eye candy ... See MoreSee Less

Avalanche (Ricochet Ridge) by Jillian Wray My reviewI really liked these two characters and how they aren't exactly what you expected.First, yes they are step brothers. But they are 4 years apart AND Stone left when he was 18. You can extrapolate that there wasn't even a crush between these two guys until this book. Hero worship, yes. Romantic crush, nah.Stone, kind of a hot shot on the mountain because he is part of the blasting crew who set charges to trigger avalanches when no one is on the mountain. He is obviously good looking and popular, but the outside doesn't necessarily match the inside. And Hanlon, babied his whole life because he has a mild case of cerebral palsy, but he also grew into a independent college senior who has a gym body, is confident, out and proud. The quiet kid grew into a confident adult and the confident kid turned into a quiet adult. There was animosity between the step brothers for different reasons. But once they pushed past that and they started feeling things, it got interesting.Again, role reversal of the stereotypical characters. And that made it so fun.It sucked that they basically had to stay in the closet. Because of family and because of work. But we all know that doesn't last forever. And I totally understand their parents feeling the way they do. But like good parents, they found acceptance in their hearts. The CP representation was done really well. Showed that there are different levels of CP and even when it isn't overtly obvious, there's still a lot that a person has to deal with.AND I learned more about avalanches.4 pieces of eye candy ...
