I will start this review by admitting that I was a bit hesitant to read Double Alchemy. I have only read one other paranormal book,
and it was far more comedy than paranormal.
I enjoyed it, but it did not instill a love of paranormal. However, because it was Susan Mac Nicol, I knew this was a must read. In fact, I had previously
hesitated on a few of her books, for no real reason other than my own fears! Susan writes so deeply and with such
intensity that sometimes the book description has scared me off a little, although after reading them, I have no idea why. That being said, I have read all of her M/M
books now, and after finally reading Saving Alexander, I said that I would no
longer hesitate, and immediately bought Double Alchemy. As always, Susan did not disappoint.

This story is about Cade, an anthropologist, who happens
upon Quinn, the Warlock King, in the woods.
Quinn immediately knows that Cade is his soulmate, but he also has
Sprite in him, making them irresistible to each other. Their attraction is immediate, animalistic,
and HOT!!!! When these two men come
together, sparks fly.

“Cade’s head swam and he had no idea how he
suddenly ended up totally naked, his clothes in puddles at his feet, with Quinn
busy stripping down with demonic speed…Fuck, the man must have big feet. I don’t know how that’s ever going to fit
inside me.”

I absolutely loved these Cade and Quinn together. Although Quinn was the Grand Master, Warlock
King, and full of magyck, Cade would not let him get away with even the
slightest things. Cade saw Quinn as the
human, with faults and annoying habits, and loved him anyway. Cade was never nervous about telling Quinn
where to put those bad habits, either, no matter who was around. And they were able to enjoy each other, have
fun and laugh together.

“’Hell, Cade, you are trouble. I knew that the minute I saw you in the woods
that day.’ Cade’s mouth curved in a sexy smile and Quinn’s cock pushed against
his zipper. ‘That’s trouble with a capital T, girlfriend,’ Cade camped up.”

Quinn, on the other hand, although a true Alpha male, adored
Cade, and would do anything for him, even risking his life to save Cade. They were great opposites who fit together
perfectly like two halves of a whole.

One of the things that I enjoyed about this book was the
action. There was a lot going on, and
things kept brewing up, would be settled, then more would come up. However, my concern with paranormal has
always been that I wouldn’t quite understand what was happening (okay, that
might have been just my own fear) but Susan made sure that the reader
understood all the magyck as the men worked through all their trials and
tribulations. There were so many
layers to this book, and yet Susan made it possible to not only follow
along but kept you wondering as to what else could come up!

Although, there is not a cliffhanger, there were definitely
enough unanswered questions that I can smell a Warlock King and Fey Sprite
Volume 2 ahead. And I, for one, can’t
wait! (I might have seen a posting somewhere that the “Climax” is in edits. Woo Hoo!)

If I had one thing that I would say on the other side, it
would be that there were a few errors in the book that perhaps should have been caught during editing, but not
enough to take away from the heart of the story.

For my first true paranormal book, it was really a great
adventure. For a Susan Mac Nicol, it was
another amazing book. It was full of
lots of undeniable love, hot sex scenes, action and interesting secondary
characters (I am sure there is more to Marco than appears initially!).

I am giving this book a solid 4.9 pieces of eye candy.

Book Review and Giveaway!!!: The Sergeant by Christa Tomlinson

Well, where to start? What would Dr. Suess say? At the beginning!

I will tell you that I had no idea this book was coming out. I found it on a sister blog, Sinfully Sexy Book Reviews (which if you don’t follow them, you are seriously missing out!!!!) go check them out, right now! Go ahead, I’ll wait!!! Okay, now that you are back…The Sergeant was mentioned in their new release blog post them put out for M/M releases over each weekend-my favorite email I get on Saturdays, I’ll tell you! I read the blurb (never underestimate the power of a good blurb), and I was immediately on Amazon one clicking like a total fan-girl-yes, I purchased the book, I did not receive an ARC. That being said, I was in the middle of another two books and had to wait until I got to NYC to start reading it while I was on vacation. Well, if you have ever been to NYC, you know that you will be taking lots of subway trips, which we did, and my phone was out every second I could to get that book read. I could NOT put it down!!! I seriously read it every single extra moment I had, fortunately, the hubby was kind enough to pull me out of traffic if I wasn’t paying close enough attention to the world around me, which I usually was not.

The premise of this book is a SWAT team based in Texas, the Sergeant, Logan, is a former Marine and Dom who has never collared anyone, because he has always wanted Clay, a Corporal on his SWAT team to be his submissive. Clay is bisexual and never has been in a relationship longer than a few months, a smartass guy who loves to have fun, but works his tail off. A former Navy man, with some issues from his past, he has no idea that he is submissive. One night they kiss and everything changes. They enter into a D/s relationship that is intense to say the least. “You’re the only one I want to control. The only one whose submission I want, need, crave, with every part of me, every second of every day. I don’t ever want to be with anyone else.”

Back when I was a reader of m/f regularly, I read a lot of D/s books, and enjoyed many of them. There are some fantastic authors out there who really have done some research into the lifestyle. I was seriously impressed with the manner which Ms. Tomlinson portrayed their relationship. And it was not just in the sex scenes (which were super SUPER SUPER H-O-T-!-!-!-!, by the way) but also in how their relationship moved into that realm, and progressed. It wasn’t instantaneous, it was a command here, a strong look there, which progressed to many of the things that would later become sticking points for Clay.

“Tell me right now, what you want.” He slowed his thrusts even more, dragging his cock out of Clay’s hot, gripping channel before pushing back in at the same deliberately slow speed. “Do you want me to go faster?”

Clay shook his head and opened his eyes to look up at Logan. “I want…oh god…I want whatever you want, Sir,” he gasped.

Fuck! Logan loved hearing those words from Clay and they set him off like nothing else could have.

Because Clay had never been submissive before-he was a strong SWAT team member, after all-he really didn’t believe that he had it in him. Later questioning whether he truly was, or if he wanted to be. And this to me was the most believable part of the story. Ms. Tomlinson gave these two men real emotions and real questions about a lifestyle that many consider “kinky” and “perverted”. This lifestyle is not for everyone, and you have to be able to accept yourself as you are, and be open to what your needs are. If not, it can lead to problems. This was portrayed so well in this book. I felt like the author really GOT that Clay was having issues with believing that he should be in this type of relationship, despite all the good feelings he felt while he was in it.

The characters were so well drawn in their current lives, including the supporting characters, you really felt that you understood why the issues were there, and couldn’t fathom how they could get around those issues to find their HEA. I found myself reading this book completely as a fan, not trying to find good quotes until late in the book. Just enjoying an amazing story that riveted me from beginning to end. It was not a “cry” book…well, I might have shed a tear or two, but it could have been my allergies…but what it was was REAL. You wanted things to work out, because you had two people who you liked as people, and obviously were meant to be together, trying to find their way into the right relationships for themselves.

Clay took a deep breath and then slowly sank to his knees. His talk with Carlos had cleared his head and opened his eyes. He wanted to be with Logan and the only reason he was holding back was because of fear. But he’d never lived his life in fear before and he wasn’t about to start now. Not with something as important as his relationship with this man on the line.

This is a definite re-read, and there are only a handful of books (well more like authors) for me that are automatic re-reads. I’m not sure if there is another book coming, but judging from the great work done on this book, I would pick up any future work by this author.

Now, here at Two Chicks Obsessed, our rating system is 0-5 pieces of eye candy. If I could, I would give this book about 10 pieces of eye candy, and not regret it at all. (okay, so it’s my blog, I will!)

Book Review by Denise: With Chase by J.J. Scotts

The first thing I have to say is J.J. Scotts is a bit devious. Book 1, Being Chase, and Book 2, Following Chase, both ended with my face in horror and something along the lines of “NO!!!! You can’t end a book like that!!!!” running through my head, followed by perhaps one or two words that my father would be proud to hear my say, and my mother, not so much. Thank goodness Ms. Scotts has not left us waiting interminably for Book 3.

That being said, I have loved this series from the very beginning. Chase is a rather intriguing character. You really have a hard time liking him initially, but as you get to know him a little, and the people he has around him, you start to, if not understand him, at least see that he is really a good guy at heart. And Liam, well, he is an entirely different character. You love him from the start, and feel bad for his circumstances, and the fact that he is in an uncomfortable situation.

Now, I will not give spoilers, however if you haven’t read books 1 and 2, you may want to skip ahead just a bit. It would be hard to do this review without giving away something from the first two books. So, I will assume you have read them and move from there. At the end of book 2, Liam finds himself in a rather precarious position. That is where book 3 picks up. Liam awakening to find his (**spoiler right here if you haven’t finished book 2!!!!) kidnapper standing there with quite an agenda. I will not give anything else away, but let’s just say A) the kidnapper is bat shit crazy and B) we meet another of Chase’s relatives, this one not quite as likeable as Nicole and Josh.

Side note: I saw this book, in my mind, a bit like a two act play. The “situation” and the “follow up event”.

As the situation continues to unfold, Liam becomes a pawn in another’s game merely for Being Chase. The end of the situation comes following some rather unpleasant times and Liam ends up injured. He is then transported to a private hospital room for his care.

The follow up event is where it gets pretty damn HAWT. 🙂 Chase shows up at the hospital and all hell breaks loose. Well, let’s just say Liam may have broken through Chase’s walls.

Chase flicked off the light and I jolted slightly in surprise when I felt him slide into the bed behind me with a sigh.
Nothing I like better than a long, drawn out bedroom scene and Ms. Scotts provides one in spades. I realized when I was nearly done with the book that I was reading merely for enjoyment, based on the fact that I didn’t highlight any quotes until I was nearly finished. Not because there weren’t any but because I was just reading to enjoy the read.

The way he’d touched me, not gently, exactly but…almost tenderly. Fierce, but tender. Like I-me, Liam Collins-meant something to him. The way he kept asking me to let him, let him touch me, take care of me. He’d seemed to really crave that.

I’d always believed actions spoke louder than words, and Chase didn’t act like I was just a plaything, a ‘pet.’

Of course, we are left with a cliffhanger, although not quite to the extent of the last two books, as I believe Ms. Scotts is planning about six books total in the series.

My final determination, if you like some HAWT M/M scenes grab this book when it releases on Monday 4/28.

Review of Christi Snow's book Snowcroft Lost

I will admit that this book lingered in my TBR for about a month, being pushed down by books that, in the end I could have not read and been okay with. I finally determined this weekend that I wouldn’t let it hang out there any longer. And now I am mad at myself for allowing it to linger so long. Once I began this book, I only put it down when necessary, at a birthday dinner, in the restroom (okay the last part isn’t true, isn’t that why we have a kindle?), but then I picked it right back up until I finished it. I just had to know how it ended.

Now, I’m going to start by saying I could not give this 5 pieces of eye candy and Ms. Snow knows exactly why, she even addresses it in her authors notes (so don’t read those first!!!!). However, I will say I am willing to trust her to have done the right thing for the series.

So, I started with the negatives (as vague as the description was) and now I will get to what I really liked about this book–everything else!!!! The premise of this book is that Jamie, a construction business owner, has been best friends with Trevor, a forestry investigator, for 14 years, and has been in love with Trevor the entire time. Trevor meanwhile is straight, a man-whore actually, and has no idea his best friend is in love with him. He’d been jealous of the trail of one-night lovers Trevor had rotating through his bed like he had to set some sore today record. Trevor had so much more to offer. Jamie wanted more for him than just physical sex and it had been hard for Jamie to remain quiet about it. As Jamie decides to give up and move on, in another city, Trevor has an accident and loses his memory. Trevor wakes up and starts to heal, Jamie is the only one who is there for him, and Trevor just knows that his new self is gay, no question. As Jamie and Trevor begin to unravel the mysteries in Snowcroft, they also begin to fall in love.Was it possible? There had been signals but he thought he’d just misread or hoped too much. Fourteen years. It had been fourteen years and Trevor had never once shown any sign of being gay. Could a blow to the head change a person that much? And if is what happened when he got his memory back?Now, let’s face it. We have all seen amnesia stories on TV and movies, but more often than not they are rather hokey and difficult to believe. Ms. Snow makes this believable though, in quite a few ways. First, she has Trevor wake with a bump on the head, a true way to develop amnesia. Also, she has Trevor regaining his memory over time, and not in one Eureka! moment. He retrieves snippets and small pieces as he begins to unravel the mysteries of his life, his family, as well as the small mountain town he and Jamie live in.I was incredibly impressed with how Ms. Snow takes a challenging premise and makes it believable. It also leads Trevor to realize that he wasn’t quite the nicest person before his accident and was determined to change his ways. He wanted to find his way to being a great man for himself and his love. Why he still held out hope that he might be a deeper person, he didn’t know. Everyone had already told him that he was a pretty shallow guy. They all agreed. He didn’t know how he ended up there, but one thing about this accident…he wanted to be a better man now. Specifically he wanted to be more with Jamie. I’m a sucker for an HEA, and if a book makes me cry along the way to that, well I’ll grab my tissues. And there were a few tears (see “negatives” above) the story grabbed you from the very beginning and gave such a strong story, you will want to see who the bad guy is and how he gets his comeuppance. And although that was less than wholly satisfying (from the vengeful side of me), I still felt it was fitting, because in real life people that deserve to have a visit from karma may not ever get it, and you have to learn to live with that. Besides you never know what book 2 will bring!!!My favorite line: “Fuck,” Trevor moaned . “You’re a guy. How can you cock-block me? Both of us?”Snowcroft Lost receives a strong 4.8 pieces of eye candy from Denise. And left me begging for more. Review of Payce’s Passion by Piper Kay-reviewed by Val

I absolutely loved this book .
The beginning starts off basically where A Perfect Passion left off . We get to hear from Damien and Dax, as well as Damien’s crazy ex-boyfriend, Aaron.
Damien calls in Payce to help him find Aaron who has been stalking both him and Dax. We meet Payce, who initially seems to be this hard well structured guy but once he is asked to help search for Aaron, things take a turn and we see a different side of Payce .
Payce is led to Braxton’s Tavern and Grill which happens to be owned by Braxton, the one man who Payce has never been able to get out of his heart .
This story shows how two people, who have not had any contact for over seven years due to unfortunate situations, connect and try to trust and start over again .
I have to say the scenes between Payce and Braxton are scorching and quite passionate. You have to read this to get the full effect of how things work out .
We meet other characters also that will have you laughing hard. We meet the firecracker, Serge, (nicknamed Sparky), through Payce and also Braxton’s right hand man Ash.
I enjoyed this story so much. I was very anxious for it and Piper did not disappoint.

I gave this 5 pieces of eye candy and would highly recommend it.

Brax lowers to kiss
