Fangs and Catnip by Julia Talbot: Exclusive Guest Post and Excerpt

November 30, 2017 by Denise

A romance worth fighting for—tooth and claw.

Solitary vampire Fallon Underwood gets all the social interaction he needs being the silent partner at the Dead and Breakfast B and B high in the Colorado mountains. Change is hard for Fallon, so when his business partner, Tanner, suggests hiring a new manager for the inn, he’s adamant that they don’t need help, especially not in the form of bouncy werecat Carter Hughes.

Carter is a happy-go-lucky kitty, and he loves the hospitality industry, so the D and B ought to be a great place for him. He falls for Fallon as soon as he picks up one of Fallon’s novels and begins to woo the vamp with gifts. When Fallon finally succumbs to Carter’s feline charms, the results are unexpected, to say the least. Their mating will have irreversible consequences—for their bodies and their hearts.

Hey, y’all!

I’m here to give you an exclusive excerpt to Fangs and Catnip, my very first Dreamspun Beyond from Dreamsinner Press.

Carter is the new manager at the Dead and Breakfast Inn, and he falls for vampire silent partner Fallon, who is sure they don’t need a were-cougar as a manager…

Carter bit his lip.

Should he give Fallon the gift in person, or just leave it like he had the movies? The box in his hands held just a bunch of used books, but Tanner had said Fallon loved this series….

“You going to go up there?” Jami asked. The night auditor was a slim, dapper vamp who looked like he was turned when he was maybe fifteen. Tanner said he was eighty now.

“Yeah. Yeah, I found these books….” Because he totally wasn’t smitten. Totally.

He opened the box, showing Jami, whose eyes widened. “Are they for the library?”

The five vintage Dark Shadows books by the Paperback Gothic Library gleamed a dull gold. “Not unless Fallon doesn’t like them, I guess.”

“If he doesn’t, I’ll take them. Seriously, why can’t a cute shifter woo me?” Jami widened his big blue eyes even more.

“You need a big bad wolf, man. Someone who will turn you inside out.” Jami liked to act all calm and kind of superior, but Carter had seen him dance under the moon to Enya. He was a sensitive soul.

“Yeah. I’ll be lucky to find a tentacle monster to suck me.”

Carter fought the urge to put a hand over his crotch. Ack. “Uh, do we have a lot of those? As guests?”

“No. In fact, I’ll go with never. I imagine they find it challenging to travel….”

“I guess so. I know a lot of them are aquatic.” He tucked the box under his arm. “You think Fallon will like them?”

“I don’t know him well, sweet. But if Tanner says he will…. Good luck, then. You’re doing good.” Jami patted his arm.

He hoped so. He personally thought he had lost his mind, but he couldn’t seem to stop. Fallon called to him. Carter grinned, feeling a bit self-conscious, but Jami gave him a sweet smile, so genuine he relaxed.

“Thanks,” Carter said. “I just… I want to get to know him. I like to give people things too, to make them smile.”

“You’re a good kid, honey. Seriously. So good.”

“I try. Sometimes I feel like a derp.” He chugged along most days doing his best.

“Don’t we all? That doesn’t improve with age.”

“No? Rats.” He winked. “Did you need anything before we change shifts?”

“I don’t, honey. Go with my blessing. Good luck.”

“Thanks!” He took a deep breath before charging up the stairs.

He knocked on the door, breathing in and out, calming himself down.

“Did we take in a were-water-buffalo as a guest?” Fallon asked when he opened the door.

“Possibly, but I didn’t sign him in.”

“Ha. Can I help you, Carter? I’m trying to work.” Fallon’s expression was austere, but Carter thought he saw amusement dancing in those dark green eyes.

“I found these books. I thought you might like them.” See him, see him be calm. He pulled the box out from under his arm so he could hand it over, then waited, his face flaming.

“Really, Carter, the last thing I need is more—” Fallon broke off when he looked into the box. And he stared. Without saying anything.

“They seemed up your alley. And you can never have too many books, right?”

“They’re amazing.” Fallon smiled. Really smiled, wide enough that fang slipped out. “I love these books. How did you ever find them?”

“Oh, my uncle in Boulder owns a used bookstore. I just called him.”

Fallon carefully closed the box. “Thank you.”

deanna review

My review of the book: What a great read. Julia Talbot is a new author to me and I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Matt is just days away from claiming ownership of The Treeline, a hotel he has worked hard to maintain for years when Cullen, the deceased owners grandson is found and ownership reverts to him. Cullen is a professional snowboarder and never wanted to own a hotel.

Ben, the previous owner wrote a clause in the hotel trust that Matt could never be fired for any reason. His job was and always would be secure at The Treeline. Cullen and Matt will have to work together to ensure the success of The Treeline while Cullen still has his snowboarder’s life to contend with. Along the way feelings are developed and both want to make their arrangement a little more permanent.

I loved his! It was a sweet, low angst read. I loved the progression of the relationship between Cullen and Matt. It felt real, with everyday obstacles and little to no drama.

Listening: I forgot how much I enjoyed this story until I started listening. John Solo brought Cullen and Matt to life in a way that was perfect for their story. It was thoroughly entertaining and so enjoyable to listen too.

Plaid Nights Anthology: Blog Tour, Excerpt and Giveaway

July 14, 2015 by Denise

plaidnights1400synopsis

In Plaid Nights, men in kilts are as varied as they are hot. Whether they’re caber tossers, rugby players, Highland warriors, country dancers, or time-traveling vampires, they’re up for surprises and sexy good times.

Rob Rosen starts us off with humor in “Tossing It.” Contemporary men discover love in unexpected places in “Whiskey and Want” by Megan McFerren, “Some Like It Scot” by Julia Talbot, “Perfect Working Order” by Elizabeth Coldwell, and “Off-Kilter” by Racheline Maltese & Erin McRae. We get a taste of the paranormal in “Sir WW” by Angelique Voisen, “Feumaidh Mi Ruith (I Have to Run)” by Missouri Dalton, and “Kilt in the Closet” by Logan Zachary. And we’re treated to forbidden love in historicals “Hunting for a Highlander” by Lila Mathews, “A Time to Heal” by Anna Mansel, and “As Fair Art Thou, My Bonny Lad” by McKay.

In these stories, some tartan-clad men wear their kilts in the “traditional manner,” while others are less daring. But all find love, and of course, a happy ending—especially at night, when the plaid comes off.

excerpt

From “Tossing It” by Rob Rosen:

He took a spoonful of stew into his mouth, green eyes sparkling in the daylight. He was cute in a lanky, pale, freckled sort of way. He sighed contentedly as he set the spoon back down. “Just like mom used to make.”

“Back in the old country?”

He laughed. “Back in New Jersey. Though Newark is sort of old.”

We continued eating together, side by side. His leg brushed mBadge (1)ine. It stayed brushed. I didn’t move mine away; he didn’t move his either. This was an odd turn of events. Was he gay? Not a clue. Still, most guys would’ve moved their legs away. Maybe he was simply oblivious. Straight guys sometimes had a habit of that. You just never knew. Then again, you could test the theory if you were so inclined. Me, I was always so inclined.

I pointed to a throng of kilted behemoths off to the side. “What’s with the skirted mountain men?”

He chuckled. “Caber tossers.”

“That some sort of Scottish slang for rednecks?”

He turned my way, eyes locking with mine. It was like staring into a field of emeralds. Guess I’d been too busy staring at his crotch before to notice. Shame on me. “Caber tossers. They toss logs. Poles. Big ones.” Well, he’d certainly know about big poles, I figured. “They’re up to twenty feet tall and almost two hundred pounds.”

“And they toss them? Why?”

“For sport.”

I ate a couple more bites of my fish. It was perfectly cooked, greasy and flaky. My stomach settled down. “Sport? Like tiddlywinks for giants?”

He nodded as he continued eating his stew. His eyes rarely left mine. I was all too glad to return the favor. I stared at his freckles, connecting the dots, constellations hidden in the patterns. “Something like that.”

Did you see?✨ ILY by @authoremlindsey & @coraroseauthor is available NOW! Grab it in KU!#OneClickNowbooks2read.com/u/49wOaY Why you need to #ONECLICK this book…❤️Mistaken Identity❤️Hookups to Lovers❤️High Heat❤️Murder Mystery❤️Hearing/HoH❤️Farmer/FBI Agent❤️Found Family❤️MM Romance❤️RomcomWhoever convinced me that quitting my job as an interpreter to take over my dead aunt’s farm should be covered in honey and left for the ants. Oh wait…that was me. I was burnt out and ready for a change, but I didn’t expect what came with it. An orchard full of fruit I’m allergic to.A bunch of farm equipment I don’t know how to use.And a vindictive, vicious groundhog who has made it his life’s mission to drive me to the brink of madness. But in my quest to find a permanent solution for Michael, I’ve also acquired something else I didn’t expect: a stalker. I should be more concerned that the man offering to sell me TNT has followed me home, but Thorne is the most gorgeous thing I have ever laid eyes on, and we communicate well. With our hands in ASL, yeah, but also with our lips, tongues, hips…and other parts of the body. It’s also increasingly obvious that Thorne is much more than a stalker. With my focus on trying to stop Michael from using his little paws to dig my grave, though, it’s hard to worry about his secrets. But skeletons never stay buried for long, and when everything comes to light, I can’t help but wonder if Thorne is the best thing that will ever happen to me, or the worst. ILY is the second book in the Deaf Hearts series and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. It’s a spicy, MM, strangers to lovers rom-com featuring a burnt out, not-quite farmer, a tall, dark, and handsome man with a mission and a secret, a groundhog that knows more than everyone else, and a toe-curling, feet-kicking happily ever after.#newrelease #corarose #emlindsey #kindleunlimited #mmromance The Author Agency ... ✨EXCERPT: SOMEWHERE TOGETHER by @authormandymuse releasing December 1st! #PreOrderNow a.co/d/dLGPAjx My best friend looked like hell but he had also never looked so good. His hair was a little longer, he had trimmed facial hair that gave him a more rugged look and seeing him with Sol always made my non-existent ovaries go into overdrive.I didn’t go with him into the house as he dropped off Sol, because I needed a little space and time to think about us. Was I really going to tell him that I loved him? Baring my soul to him sounded like a really bad idea. Maybe we could just kiss and make up then, maybe once we were in a better place I could casually say,“Hey I love you and want your babies.”Why was this so fucking hard?I was scared, I was being a child and I knew if I just told him then I could move on, no matter the outcome. Sam left the front door and Forest was right behind him. Nova must have said something funny because they laughed together, glancing at one another before waving as the door closed.Forest said something to Sam, making him scowl but Forest was enjoying his discomfort. I looked between them, noticing the vast differences between them. They were good looking in their own way but they were such opposites. Light and dark. A flash of them in bed together popped into my mind. Forest’s darker tan against Sam's lighter skin and them grinding together. Sam liked to top but would he bottom for Forest?Forest screamed dominant top and picturing them together had me uncomfortable in my uniform. My window was lowered as I heard them talking, my fantasy getting dirtier and ranchier.✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up here to promote this awesome release: bit.ly/somewheretogethersignup#mandymuse #kindleunlimited #mmmromance #booktok #bookstagram The Author Agency @authormandymuse ... Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
Sins of the Father by Isabel LuceroMy review: 4 POECSolid mafia book with the added twist of the priest.I am not religious at all, but I did grow up in the church. Still, it doesn't offend me at all that the priest was...gay, has a father in the mafia, is hooking up with his father's bodyguard and more. And I still think it was pretty respectful. Because Carlo, the priest, was still fighting his urges. Still praying for guidance and forgiveness. Still trying to uphold his position. But then there's a point of no return. And it's obvious to everyone.Javier is a gun for hire. Not a made man. Not officially part of any family. But Carlo's father kind of claimed him after Javier's own father was killed. That caused some friction between families but it wasn't too bad. What was bad was the rat in the family. And when it is time to suss him out and really take care of the problem, Carlo knew he had to do what he had to do.The dynamics between the different families got a little confusing for me, but that was me. I liked how the book had an actual plot and story besides Carlo and Javier. Besides the whole priest thing, mafia men aren't gay. Or aren't allowed to be gay. So let me say that THAT scene toward the end had my mouth dropping open. DAMNIf you like mafia books and aren't squeamish about religion and blasphemy, this is a good read ... See MoreSee Less
