Babe in the Woodshop by Ashlyn Kane, Claudia Mayrant, & CJ Burke: Release Day Review and Guest post (9/29) TBR Denise

September 30, 2016 by Denise

babe-in-the-woodshop-coversynopsisWhen long hours and crushing stress push Bellamy Alexander to his breaking point, he walks away from his consulting job and drives until he runs out of gas. Fortune deposits him in front of Antonio’s, a place with decent pizza and an opening for a delivery boy. Even better, he finds an apartment right across the street from his new job. And best of all, Chris McGregor, the property manager who runs the custom furniture shop below Bell’s new digs, is super hot—and super into Bell.

It seems too good to be true—and maybe it is. Things aren’t exactly going smoothly. Bell avoids telling his mother the truth about his new job because he doesn’t want to hear how he should go back to the corporate world. On the other hand, he doesn’t think he wants to deliver pizza forever either. He’d like to think about settling down, but Chris runs hot and cold. Between Bell’s uncertainty and the hang-ups Chris refuses to talk about, they have their work cut out for them. Fortune may have caused their paths to dovetail, but it will take more than wood glue to hold them together.

Guest Post

Hello, everyone! Ashlyn Kane, Claudia Mayrant, and CJ Burke here, thrilled to be making a guest appearance for Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy (we can relate, except in number, of course!). We’re here to talk a little bit about our upcoming release Babe in the Woodshop.

When long hours and crushing stress push Bellamy Alexander to his breaking point, he walks away from his consulting job and drives until he runs out of gas.

Now that you’re all caught up, we’ll turn the keyboard over to CJ, who’ll tell you a little bit about what the stars say about our heroes.

CJB: I’ve often found horoscopes to be an interesting way to develop characters, especially when trying to figure out where the rough and smooth elements fall in their relationships. So first I took a look at when and where Bell and Chris were born.

Bellamy Alexander: Born 8:20 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 1991, San Diego, California.

Chris McGregor: Born 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 1984 in Berea, Kentucky. When the book opens, Chris has just turned 32, and he’s feeling his years.

Bell Alexander is a Taurus with moon in Pisces and Gemini rising. Mostly that means Bell’s a nice guy but is going to stand up for himself, and he used to be ambitious but he’d rather have good friends and a real life. He’s not exactly running away, but he hasn’t yet figured out where he’s headed. Luckily, his sun sign keeps him grounded, while his moon in Pisces gives him a vivid imagination—both in his work and in his personal life.

When Bell meets Chris McGregor, he’s intrigued by this handsome craftsman who seems quiet and focused on his work, but who surprises Bell in a variety of ways. Chris is a Virgo with both moon and ascendant in Capricorn, giving him a strong sense of practicality and responsibility. He’s generally solitary and needs someone to bring out the fun side. He’s cautious about relationships, but once he’s in, he’s in and it’s peaceful and fulfilling.

Their composite chart has some interesting elements. They share the sun in the fourth house, Venus in the fifth house, and the moon in the eleventh house, all of which indicate a relationship that includes both friendship and love. However, they also share a sun in opposition to Neptune, an indicator that they’re both keeping secrets from each other, and possibly even from themselves.

denise review

This slow burn, sweet and sexy love story is just what I needed while dealing with life. I will say there was a big surprise (interestingly enough, found in the closet) waiting for Bell and the reader, which brings loads of humor in to the mix…and one reader heading online to see if they are really out there. 🙂

I loved that Bell left the big city stresses behind, to try to find some peace and balance for himself. He recognized that he was on a treadmill that he wouldn’t be able to get off until he cut the cord completely.

Chris had a side to him that you didn’t expect in the first time or two of seeing him. 😉 I loved that sexy, innuendo laden side. It was fun to read, and enjoy the interactions in regards to that slightly sinful side.

These two men were a perfect mix together. If Bell had seen Chris in his other space, he likely wouldn’t have moved further with him, with everything he had going on. However, meeting him in a small town, where everyone either knows everyone else or is going to college, allowed them to connect with one another.

When you have a slow burn love story, it is sometimes hard to find the right balance between too slow and boring your reader, and burning up the pages just enough to keep the reader interested. This book rode the edge in the first half, but definitely picked up the pace, and kept me engaged through the end. Recommended. And read it again, although you can only be surprised by what was in the closet one time. 😉

excerpt

I swallow against the dryness in my throat. “We need to talk.”

No response.

Slowly, as though wading through deep sand, I cross the room until I’m standing right behind him. He grips the edge of the worktop.

“Theo?”

Still nothing. Only the convulsive tightening of his fingers shows he even heard me.

“Theo,” my voice cracks, “don’t do this.”

Theo sucks in a breath. When he replies, his tone is even. “Do what?”

“This. Shutting me out.”

“I’m—”

“And don’t say you’re not, because we both know that isn’t true.” I’m aware of my voice rising, and lower it with an effort. “Just…don’t.”

Theo exhales in a long sigh. He turns to me, his expression distant but not unkind. I wish he’d glare at me, shout, whatever. Anything to show he gives a damn.

“Luke, I’m sorry about this morning. It was a mistake. If you got the wrong impression—”

“The wrong impression? You kissed me. What impression was that supposed to give me?”

He casts a nervous glance at the window.960x350 (4)

“What’s wrong, Theo? Worried Giles might hear? I don’t blame you. He’d probably make you bathe in disinfectant for a year if he knew you’d kissed scum like me.” Theo starts to protest, but I shake my head. “You know what? Forget it. So sorry I embarrassed you.”

I need to get out of here. Humiliation, hot and clammy, coils like tar through my veins. Still, what did I expect? Theo’s made it perfectly clear how he sees me, that he thinks I’m beneath him. I grab for the nearest glass, intending to pour myself a liver full of whatever’s in that jug, but my hand shakes so much it slips through my fingers. Glass collides with oak in a minor explosion, glittering fragments flying.

“Shit.” I drop to my knees, begin picking up the larger pieces. I fumble, a jagged shard slicing my palm. “Shit.”

“Luke?” Theo crouches beside me.

“I’m fine.” I turn away from the phony concern in his eyes, fist clenched around the cut to hide it from view. Blood trickles through my fingers and onto my jeans. The pain is almost a relief.

“Let me see.” Theo holds out his hand, but I jerk away.

“I said I’m fine.”

He ignores me. With gentle firmness, he takes hold of my wrist, uncurling my fingers to examine the wound. My body stills. I scarcely breathe. Every nerve ending, every particle of my being is aware of him, the pressure of his fingers on my wrist, his warm palm supporting the back of my hand.

Kinky Sprinkles by L.A. Witt: Blog Tour, Review and Giveaway

September 27, 2016 by Denise

kinkysprinkles_600x900 synopsis

Joel has finally walked away from his abusive ex and is ready to meet new people. But that isn’t easy for a guy who’s shy, self-conscious, and struggling with his body image.

Andre has wanted Joel since the first time he laid eyes on him, and finally Joel is single. But Andre is a Dom and a sadist, and Joel is unapologetically vanilla. There’s no happy medium—either Andre reins in the kinky side that took him years to accept, or Joel grits his teeth and subjects himself to kinks that aren’t his thing. No matter who bends, someone’s going to be unhappy.

They agree to walk away, but they keep circling back to each other. Though their kinks might not line up, the chemistry between them sizzles and the emotional connection keeps getting deeper. But none of that will get them anywhere if they can’t find some kind of middle ground in the bedroom.

Heather's Review

I can’t remember the last time I had such a hard time summing up my thoughts on a book. Kinky Sprinkles combines two things I love: LA Witt and kink, which should make for a very happy day. But it is a novella, and I ran into some of the things I don’t love about shorter stories.

First, what I did love about this book:

Andre and Joel

Andre was written so well. His status as a Dom wasn’t about how he controlled anyone or how he dressed. It was simply the man he was. As Joel said at one point, he could’ve been wearing Hello Kitty pajamas and still been Dominant. It’s hard to find books where the author truly understands what makes a Dom.

On top of that, he was always mindful of his role as a Dom. There’s one scene that solidifies him as one of my favorite main characters in a BDSM story.

Joel is a bit more of a mixed bag. His visceral reactions to the lifestyle made sense given what he’d been through. At the same time, there were glimmers which led me to wonder what the future would hold for them. I give him props for being open and honest about what he was and wasn’t willing to do.

Tightly written

One of the benefits of a well-written shorter story is everything is stripped down to the bare bones. There’s no time for the author to wander along the garden path. And Kinky Sprinkles was one of those books.

Now, for what didn’t work for me:

Too many unanswered questions

If I hadn’t gotten wrapped up in the characters, I don’t know that I’d be as upset as I am at the end of the book. But I did. And I am. In the end, it felt more like the first portion of a book, where they go from being strangers (or in this case, acquaintances) to deciding they’re going to be together. But I’m still not certain they’re going to make it and there are going to be plenty of bumps in the road. My only hope is that maybe, just maybe, LA Witt has plans we don’t know about, because there could easily be a follow-up for these two.

Joel’s struggle

Yes, I know I just said I loved Joel for being honest, but by the time I read the last page, it felt more like he was sticking to his guns because he was holding onto the past. There were these passing thoughts that make me think everything will be okay in the future, but not in the way they agreed to proceed. I wish we’d had more time to see how the relationship progresses.

Even though I have mixed feelings, I’m giving this book 4 pieces of candy. LA Witt delivered what she promised and it was well written. It would’ve been a 5 for me if only there weren’t so many unresolved issues.

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who has finally been released from the purgatorial corn maze of Omaha, Nebraska, and now spends her time on the southwestern coast of Spain. In between wondering how she didn’t lose her mind in Omaha, she explores the country with her husband, several clairvoyant hamsters, and an ever-growing herd of rabid plot bunnies. She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don’t tell Lauren. David, Renewed by Diana Copland: Release Day Review and Guest Post

September 21, 2016 by Denise

david-renewed-final-cover-artsynopsis

When interior designer David Snyder buys a beautiful century-old house in eastern Washington, he is reeling with heartbreak and looking for somewhere to put down roots. Unfortunately his new home comes with a laundry list of problems: electrical, plumbing, heating… things David knows nothing about. When his mother offers him the business card of a local handyman, David pictures an overweight, balding man in his fifties. But Jackson Henry couldn’t be further from that stereotype.

Dark-haired, muscular, and handsome, Jackson left a large construction firm in Seattle to take care of his sick mother. However, his hometown still has an active “good old boy” network, and finding employment in construction is almost impossible for an openly gay man. Determined to persevere, Jackson takes odd jobs as a handyman. He’s exactly what David needs—in more ways than one.

David isn’t ready for his attraction to Jackson, not considering the way his last relationship ended. But as the two men get to know each other, it becomes clear that the heart often knows best, and it rewards those willing to listen.

Guest Post

Hello, everyone!
First, I’d like to thank the two chicks of ‘Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy’ (best site name ever, btw) for doing my release day post for me!
David, Renewed is the first book I’ve written in two years, and it’s always going to have a special place in my heart. I love all of the characters I’ve written, but there’s just something about David and Jackson. David is so insecure and heart sore (understandably), and Jackson is gorgeous and sexy and really couldn’t care less that he is. Mostly, they’re just guys. They have families that come with their own sets of issues, jobs they work hard at, friends they love. In fact, more than any book I’ve ever written, their friends hold a place of prominence.
When I started this book, it was actually supposed to be a short story. (Ha! I suck at writing anything short. Major fail in that department. I start writing short and sexy and plot creeps in.) Anyway, as it grew from short to not short at all, their friends insisted on being included in the conversation. So much so that there will be two more books, just so they can get their turn!
One of the most important relationships in the first book is David and his best friend Michael. Michael is David’s executive assistant, but they became more friends than boss and employee almost immediately. Several years younger, twink cute and snarky as hell, Michael is still infinitely more experienced with dating than David is.
Today I thought I’d share with you a scene between David and Michael that didn’t make the cut. Sometimes, even things we love don’t make it into the final novel. This scene, where Michael helps David get ready for his first date with Jackson, was just such a scene.

tco exclusive

DELETED SCENE:
When David emerged from the shower ten minutes later wearing nothing but a towel Michael was lying on his bed with a bowl of microwave popcorn between him and Bootsy and some of the reality crap he loved on the television. David was grateful he’d gotten an old blanket out of the hall linen closet and covered his expensive comforter first. He opened his closet and looked at his clothes, and had no idea what to wear. He turned to Michael.
“Help?”
Michael gave an exaggerated sigh but patted Boots on the head and scooted off the side of the bed. “Okay, what are we going for?”
“He told me to wear something sexy.”
Michael smiled in delight. “Did he now?” He all but rubbed his hands together in glee as he began to study David’s wardrobe. He shifted through the hangers where David’s pants hung neatly, pausing on a pair of black jeans. “Have I seen these before?”
David leaned over his arm. “Probably not. They’re kind of tight.”
“Can you sit in them?” David nodded. “Perfect.” Michael laid them on the foot of the bed. “Now, for a shirt.”
It took him longer to go through each of David’s many shirts, but finally he paused on a long sleeved pale green button down with a delicate dark gray lace pattern overlaid. He pulled it out and laid it on top of the jeans.
“You don’t think that one’s a little… girlie?”
Michael looked at him, one mobile dark brow cocked above the rim of his glasses. “Really? You want me to answer that?”
David rolled his eyes. “Shut up.”
Michael turned back to the closet and picked through David’s array of sweaters. He found a v-neck in dove gray and tossed it to the growing pile on the bed.
“Scarves? Jackets?”
“Other side.”
Michael slid the door over then studied what was revealed, patting his lower lip with his index finger as he looked between the clothes and David. Finally he pulled a dark gray scarf from a hanger and tossed it over his shoulder, rifling through the jackets.
He paused with his fingers on the shoulders of one. “Oh my God, where did this come from?”
He pulled the grey wool pea coat from the closet and held it up, staring raptly at the darker metal buttons and flipping back the side to admire the satin lining.
“I bought it for Trevor, but he never wore it.” David shrugged. “I didn’t figure he’d miss it.”
“Would you?” Michael held it up in front of him, then fingered the soft wool with a sigh.
David pondered for a moment. It really was more Michael’s style than his. “Probably not. You should take it.”
Michael’s eyes lit up like it was Christmas morning. “Seriously? Because I so will.”
“It’s all yours.”
Michael grinned in delight and hung the jacket aside on the bedroom doorknob. “Okay, back to making you sexy.” He shifted hangers to the side one at a time, then stopped again. “Hello, there. Where did this come from?”
He pulled a black leather motorcycle jacket from the closet and held it up.
“I bought that one for Trevor, too. He probably will miss it, but it was four hundred dollars.”
Michael laughed in delight. “I like the new and bitchier David.” He laid the clothes in a careful line, tucking the shirt inside the sweater, laying the scarf and jacket next to them. He studied them seriously, then picked up the scarf and went back to the closet. David frowned.
“I liked that one.”
“Too drab.” Michael returned it to the hanger and pulled out a woven infinity scarf with every shade of green imaginable melded. He lay in on the sweater, studied it, then nodded.
“You don’t think all of that is… too much?”
“It’s cold, David. Hence, layers. The jeans will hopefully show off your ass to advantage and the greens will bring out the color of your eyes. Now shut up and get dressed, because Prince Charming is due here in ten minutes.”
“What, so now I’m Cinderella?” David crossed to his dresser and pulled a pair of black briefs out of his top drawer, stepping into them and tossing the towel into the hamper.
“If the slipper fits.” Michael climbed back on the bed and Bootsy scooted closer and laid his chin on Michael’s thigh as he watched David get dressed. When David started to tuck his shirt tail into jeans that had been harder to get up his thighs than he liked to acknowledge, Michael made a noise of irritation.
“Don’t tuck it in. You aren’t heading to the office, David.”
“But the shirt is longer than the sweater.”
“I know. Layers, man. Layers. Hurry up or we’ll never get your hair done.”
“My hair?” David pulled the sweater on over his head. “What’s wrong with my hair?”
“Well, right now it looks like it was styled with a hand mixer.”
David gave him an irritated look and pushed the damp blond strands off of his face. “You know what I meant.”
Michael stood, lifting Boots carefully down from the bed, then grabbed David’s arm not nearly as carefully, pulling him down the hall into the faintly steamy bathroom. Boots sat in the doorway, watching avidly.
“I know what you meant,” Michael said, standing behind him and looking at David’s reflection over his shoulder in the mirror. David had to admit he’d been right about the shirt; it did make his eyes look greener than their usual stormy sea foam color. “And for work there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the ‘gee, ma, I combed my hair so nice for my sixth grade picture’ style you usually wear.” David gave him an irritated look. “However, you’re about to go out with a very sexy man.” He looked around the bathroom. “Please tell me you have styling gel somewhere?”
David pointed to a cupboard next to the hundred-year-old claw foot tub. “In there.”
Michael opened it. “If I thought for one second I could get away with it, I’d unhook this tub and carry it out over my shoulder.”
“There’s a mental image I want to savor,” David quipped.
“Shut up.” Michael came back to him, a large can of thirty dollar styling mouse David had used exactly once in his hand.
“That stuff makes my hair stiff,” he complained.
“Dur.” Michael pressed the pump and sprayed an artful spiral in his hand. He set the can aside and rubbed the mouse gently between his palms, then began to massage it into David’s hair. While it was still standing up in artless spikes, he picked up David’s wide toothed comb and began to arrange his hair from the natural part into a rougher, messier style than he usually wore. He worked carefully, the tip of his tongue between his teeth, then paused studying David’s head carefully. “Okay, you’re done.”
David looked in the mirror, his nose wrinkled. “It looks like I just woke up.”
“Exactly!” Michael grinned in triumph. “Now, go put on your shoes. And don’t wear those ugly loafers. Put on those sexy half boots you’ve worn like… once.”
“Those loafers were expensive,” David griped, heading back towards his bedroom.
“Let me guess; Trevor picked them out.”
David stopped and turned back. “How did you know that?”
“Because they look like something he’d wear.”
David vowed to wear the ‘sexy half boots’ more often and retire the loafers.
The doorbell rang and David stiffened as Boots ran toward the door, barking brightly. David looked at Michael, panic flashing through him.
“Go finish getting ready,” Michael said. “I can entertain him for five minutes. And spritz some cologne on before you come out.”
David rushed into the bedroom. He heard Michael, then a responding deep voice. Pleasure made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end and he quickly put on socks and the black boots. Slipping into the jacket he hesitated over the scarf, but then looped it over his head, haphazardly arranging its folds. Michael clearly knew more about dressing stylishly than he did. He was about to leave the room when he remembered Michael’s prompt and picked up a bottle of cologne from his dresser and added one short spritz. He wasn’t much for colognes, but this one was a subtle blend of cedar and musk and he liked it. More nervous than he’d anticipated, he took a deep breath and walked out of his room.

denise review

Diana Copland was new to me as an author, but I loved the premise of starting again, after such an ugly breakup. Finding love where you don’t expect it, is one of my favorite tropes, and this one is perfect.

I really appreciated that the author did not have these men fall instantly in love. They needed time. time to learn about each other. Time for David to trust Jackson, but most importantly, time to trust himself and see himself as a worthy individual once again. That was hard to do with Trevor hanging out in the woodwork, causing trouble. However, with each successive encounter with people who cared about him, he learned that he was worth every amount of love that he was showered with.

I also like that a few things were left open ended. We didn’t find out one of the little mysteries (which may or may not ever be solved, depending on the author’s concern). And we didn’t have a chance to see what Michael and Gil might grow to be. Ah, but that can always be another book in a series.

The secondary characters, even down to Bootsy all had their own stories that we learned as we went along, and it helped the reader to really see how this community of men could grow and become a family of their own making.

Diana Copland began writing in the seventh grade, when she shamelessly combined elements of Jane Eyre and Dark Shadows to produce an overwrought Gothic tale that earned her an A- in creative writing, thanks entirely to the generosity of an indulgent teacher. She wrote for pure enjoyment for the next three decades before discovering LiveJournal and a wonderful group of supportive fanfiction writers who encouraged her to try her hand at original gay fiction. Born and raised in southern California, Diana moved to the Pacific Northwest after losing a beloved spouse to AIDS in 1995. She lives in eastern Washington with four horribly spoiled cats, near her two wonderful adult children who swear she doesn’t embarrass them. She thinks they’re so cute.

Waiting for Patrick by Brynn Stein: Release Day Review, Guest Post, Giveaway

September 16, 2016 by Denise

waitingforpatrick_postcard_front_dspsynopsis

Architect Elliot Graham has bought and restored dozens of historic homes to their original splendor. As in his personal life, he loves them and leaves them, selling them off without looking back. But there’s something about the old plantation house he finds in South Carolina—a connection he can’t explain. He feels as though he recognizes the house, as if within its crumbling walls he might find something he doesn’t even realize he’s lost.

Ben Myers promised his lover and soul mate, Patrick, that he would wait for his return—and Ben has kept his word, ever since Patrick brought him to the plantation house during the Civil War. For the first time in many long years, Ben is no longer alone, and he reaches out to Elliot in dreams. Elliot tries to convince Ben that Patrick isn’t coming back, and Ben’s devotion is about to change not only his lonely existence, but Elliot’s life as well.

Guest Post

I just finished a blog tour for Waiting for Patrick yesterday. I’m offering giveaways of one signed copy, one electronic copy, and a choice of one title from my backlist. It’s not too late to enter. I will choose and announce a winner at 5PM EST on September 16th, the release day of my book. Feel free to go around and comment on as many blogs as you want. One comment, one entry.

Crossword Puzzle

So, I just finished my blog tour, and had a wonderful time. But I find I’m running out of blog post ideas. But, never fear. I was a teacher for thirty years before becoming a mental health counselor. So, I created a crossword. The information needed for the crossword is all in one or the other of my blog tour posts (listed below) or in the blurb.

Try your hand at the crossword here: http://crosswordlabs.com/view/waiting-for-patrick-2

If you prefer a little less of a challenge, go to the shorter version here: http://crosswordlabs.com/view/waiting-for-patrick

If you give up, “Patrick” is the password for both that will give you the answer key.

Have fun.

denise review

My favorite period of history, bar none, is the American Civil War. It has always fascinated me, and I have researched and read many different thing on it. So, when I read the words “Civil War” in the blurb, I knew I wanted to read it, and wanted a guest post on it. I wasn’t disappointed.

This book is a ghost story, along with some other little spots of surprise, but all in all its a love story. I don’t read ghost stories. Ever. Not in my comfort zone. Not something I even really want to read. Why? Because they don’t have happy endings. I need my HEA. That is why I read romance. You gotta give me a happy ending or I am out! So, I was nervous. But Waiting for Patrick was just what I needed. There was a beautiful HEA, which I won’t lie, left me BAWLING at the end of  the book. But I got what I was looking for, my HEA.

The love story of Ben and Patrick was told beautifully through the dreams that Elliott sees when he sleeps. Two men that never really questioned their love. And when Ben died after being injured in the Civil War, and Patrick left, Ben waited in that house for Patrick’s return. He was devoted to Patrick and would not deviate. He was waiting for Patrick without question.

Elliott meanwhile falls in love with the ghost of Ben, and Ben returns his feelings. A love triangle like none other. Yet you don’t feel angst, because you can feel the emotions, and you can see where this is heading. It doesn’t hurt any less as you get there, your heart will be ripped apart, but the love is so strong that you can’t help but feel joy as to what you know is coming.

This book was a bit longer than it needed to be, I think, with a few scenes that could have been cut, or reduced to just the necessary components. Although it didn’t detract from the story, those extra pieces did not add to the story as they should have.

All in all, though, I really loved this book. I loved the story, both past and present. I loved seeing how easily Elliott was able to find love when he’d felt uneasy about it his entire life. I will be re-reading this book at some point. Thank you to Brynn Stein for giving me a ghost story I could love. 🙂

meet the author

Brynn has always loved to write about strong male characters and their close friendships. When she found the world of m/m fiction, she fell in love. Finally, a way to bring those strong male characters together and let those emotional connections spill over into deeper relationships. Sometimes her characters go through the emotional wringer, but they always have each other.

Brynn lives in Virginia near her two grown daughters who support her writing and sometimes act as proof readers. Both of her daughters are also aspiring writers and hopefully it’ll just be a matter of time before they have their own author’s biography.

Brynn was a teacher by profession for thirty years. She worked in special education with children with emotional disabilities. She has recently changed careers and is now working as a mental health counselor to this same population and their families. When she is not working or writing, she loves to draw and paint. She also gets outside as often as she can, reads anything that doesn’t move out of the way, and is always looking for her next story.

Whit by Cora RoseNew release and review!Whit by Cora Rose was my first book by her and I believe her first book. And I was really impressed. It's not easy to find a first book that I don't nit pick. But I really enjoyed it and she has been quite the prolific writer since.Caleb is the same story told from Whit's point of view. (Whit was Caleb's point of view)This is a good young adult (21ish) romance, opposites attract, gay for you, rich boy/poor boy...all the tropes. It was fun to read the story from Whit's POV. How he was really feeling about Caleb, about meeting family, about dealing with his own family, etc. And to hear how dirty his mind really was since he's so buttoned up (figuratively) to the world.I loved seeing Caleb's family just immediately accept him as part of the family. Jokes, hugs and all.If you enjoyed Whit, you'll enjoy Caleb. Same story, different perspectives.Do I need all of her books to have this companion piece? Nah. But I'm glad I revisited these guys.4 Pieces of Eye Candy ... See MoreSee Less

✨EXCERPT: CALEB by @coraroseauthor releasing April 24th! #PreOrderNowbooks2read.com/u/4En91A I shake my head, even though it is. I feel like my heart is being ripped from my body. The choice I have to make. Is it even a choice? “I…I overreacted. I’m…I’ll be fine,” I tell him, clutching at his hand and turning it to kiss that rough palm. Because I have to be fine with whatever I choose. And I don’t know if I can choose a future with him. Not after everything I’ve been through. My parents owe me for what they put me through. I’ve earned it with my blood and tears. Can I give it all up? For him? Caleb’s thumbs rub over my cheeks. “Okay.” He doesn’t sound convinced. Not that I expect him to. I’m a liar in the worst way. Selfish, thoughtless. He will never forgive me once this is over. My eyes water, and Caleb’s face crumples as he pulls me into his chest and holds me. I should never have let him be my roommate. I should have let him go about his life, never knowing me. It would have been simpler, better. But I was too greedy. Wanted him too much. And now look what I’ve done. I’m set to ruin him. I need to pull away before I do more damage. I need to end this. Soon, I tell myself. Just one more day. Let me have one more day.#mmromance #corarose The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less
