Nothing Special VII: Ex Meridian by A.E. Via: Audiobook Review and Excerpt

August 23, 2020 by Denise

Police Lieutenants, God and Day are under intense pressure from the chief to take back control of Atlanta’s streets. The last thing their task force needs is a pair of trained killers in town with a personal score to settle.

Take a man and strip him of his ability to feel compassion, empathy, remorse, or any of the emotions that make him human, but leave the ones that ignite rage and aggression and you have the perfect killing machine—now imagine two of them.

Code names Ex and Meridian are synonymous for ‘guaranteed death’ to international terrorists. Two broken men from the same crooked streets, recruited into an unsanctioned government program that few know about. Trained to operate most efficiently—lethally—together.

When Ex returns from an op in Bolivia to learn his little brother has been accidentally killed in a feud between drug gangs, he’s stateside before he can consider the rules he’ll be breaking, and of course Meridian is right beside him. There’s mayhem on the streets of Atlanta and the police are losing control. If Godfrey and his elite team of detectives can’t get the job done then they’d be happy to lighten their caseloads for them. And Ex nor Meridian care about doing it quietly.

“I know who you are.” The man grunted when Ex turned to leave. “You’re the fucking devil.”

Meridian walked past, glaring one final time. “Say that loud enough… maybe God will save you.”

But after their first run-in with the big lieutenant and his protective husband, Day, Ex and Meridian start to reevaluate their own relationship. Wondering if they could be even deadlier if they let loose the feelings for each other that they’ve been forced to suppress for years.

Meridian’s dark eyes stayed locked on his, “A man who can fight beside the one he loves doesn’t make him weaker, Ex—it makes him more dangerous.”

No multiple pairings. No cliffhangers. Ends with a HEA.
Note: This is a partners-to-lovers, out-for-you, action romance.

Neither of them spoke while they ate. Ex never felt the need to fill their long moments of silence with idle words, and his partner wasn’t a big talker. Besides, Ex could enjoy Meridian by him simply being there. His presence was just that powerful.

“So, what’s next?” Meridian asked after he’d pushed his empty plate to the side.

Ex drank some of his water, the coolness feeling good to his parched throat, but he wished he had something stronger. He reclined in his seat, mimicking Meridian’s posture and trying to appear casual.

“First and foremost, we go to Virginia and get our supplies. My contact there is ready for us, we should be in and out,”Ex explained. “Oay night. Of course, flying would be faster but we can better stay under the radar if we avoid TSA. Amtrak will be easiest to transport our cargo as well.”

“Works for me. He knows what we need?”

“Yes. As soon as we get back we can start to have some conversations around town. We’ll backtrack over the task force’s recent arrests and see what we can find. I also wanna keep an eye on that deputy district attorney. Something seems off there to me,” Ex said.

“Agreed.”Meridian put his cigarette into his mouth and finally lit it. He blew the aromatic smoke away from Ex but he still caught the robust scent of cloves.

Ex thought the smoking habit was atrocious, but he found he liked it when Meridian did it. The addiction made him seem less programmed. It was something his partner did when he was battling on the inside, and it was also something he only showed Ex.

Meridian’s eyes were half covered by his long black eye lashes, appearing as if he was enjoying what he was doing. He had one arm braced on the back of the seat and Ex could see the shiny Italian silk lining of Meridian’s jacket and the butt of his chrome Wesson Valor resting against his rib cage.

This story was overwhelming and intense while I was reading it… but hearing it? Experiencing it through this deep voiced narration had me ON EDGE. In the best way of course, but I”ll tell ya, these two make God, Day and their crew of crazies, look like kittens compared to America’s most savage defenders. Ex and his partner Meridian are the types of guys they make movies about. Jason Bourne type of guys, chemically and physically modified to be killing machines for our country. They’re the baddest of the bad, because they’re basically robots… or they should be… but when Ex’s baby brother is killed in God’s neck of the woods, the guys go rogue in order to exact vengeance on his killers. Sounds cray, right?

And oooh, what a ride it is. These two have been through everything together, they’re like two halves of the same person, so naturally, when one wants revenge, the other is at his side. Being off on their own without their handler in their ear, Ex goes through the loss of one of the only few people in the world who ever meant something to him and it was messing with his head. He felt it. Which meant Meridian felt it as well.

It opened up all kinds of feelings he didn’t know he possessed, and the biggest of that, aside from anger, guilt and pure rage at the persons responsible for his brother’s death, is his love and need for his other half. Now, I’m a reader. I read and I narrate in my own mind and it’s good. I think I’ve got a good imagination on a good day… but hearing the emotion and the longing and the torture of doing what you feel you should and doing what you need, and it was a need… I had zero words. It honestly left me speechless and when in the world has that ever happened to me? I’ll tell ya, not often.

it wasn’t one sided either, which I loved. Mere would do anything for Ex, including this off the radar mission to get justice for Ex’s baby brother. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as easy as getting in, getting messy and getting out… Nay, we were up against dirty DA’s, dirty cops and God and Day’s crew to get around, because as we know, if anything goes on in God’s city, he knows about it and he and his guys go above and beyond to stop it. It was fun to see God’s crew stumped for a change… it made things more exciting, though, it was a lot to handle. They weren’t prepared for how dangerous these guys are at first… And it all plays out like the most gloriously action packed audio.

I wish I could tell you this whole story…but honestly, it needs to be experienced first-hand. We get to see all the guys and their guys, we get the guns and explosions and heart-stopping emotions that I’m just not used to when I’m simply reading myself. It’s about a thousand times more intense because these guys don’t have rules, they don’t have red tape, they don’t have anyone to answer to… not even God and Day and Aiden Snow is a master at conveying every feeling you’re supposed to have and ones you weren’t even ready for. And this is coming from someone who doesn’t even like audio books! I wasn’t converted until I heard this narrator and I swear to you, every time, he’s different.

And I’m borderline obsessed with these guys…They get in, they get messy and they get out, before anyone even knows they’ve been there. It was impressive and scary and it makes you think about how real these kinds of guys are and how terrifying it would be to come face to face with one, but how badly I want to do it anyway.

What a frickin ride this one. I’m still flummoxed lol I’m impressed and I cannot wait for Fox and Bull. Every book is my new favorite, though I still have such a soft spot for Ruxs and Green, and if you haven’t, you should listen to all of them too.  I have a feeling that we’ll be seeing more of these guys in the future, too, and I am READY for it!

Overall, I wouldn’t suggest skipping any book in this series, but if you do… make sure it isn’t this one. This one deserves all the stars.

A.E. Via has been a best-selling author in the beautiful gay romance genre for six years now, but she’s no stranger to MM. She’s been an avid reader of gay literature for over twenty years before she picked up her laptop to place her own kiss on this genre. A.E. has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Virginia Wesleyan College that she used to start her own paralegal firm after she graduated in 2008. She spent five years preparing and filing bankruptcy petitions for struggling blue collar workers who couldn’t afford to file with a lawyer. A.E.’s novels embodies everything from hopelessly romantic to adventure, to scandalous. Her stories often include intriguing edges and twists that take readers to new, thought-provoking depths.

Union (Torsere #2) by Annabelle Jacobs: New Release Review

August 23, 2020 by Denise

Can magic save them before it’s too late….

After the defeat of the Lowland Army, King Seran is still at large, and Torsere needs the Elves’ protection more than ever. Nykin returns to his duty as a dragon rider and accompanies Ryneq to the Elven city of Alel to witness the joining of their two realms through marriage.

As the wedding approaches, the dragons sense a malevolent presence lurking at Alel’s borders. Nykin and Fimor take to the skies to patrol the magical city, but as the evil grows more potent, the enchanted boundary protecting Alel grows weaker.

Working alongside the elven guard, Nykin and Ryneq once again ride headfirst into danger as they struggle to protect Torsere from Seran’s thirst for revenge.

Amazon – Kindle Unlimited

I am always aware that authors are stuck between a rock and a hard place when they come to write book two of a trilogy. It’s neither a beginning or an end. I gave the beginning five stars, and even with knowing this was book two and inherently problematic because of that, I was still heading towards the five star direction before the last chapter.

Nykin is officially King Ryneq’s consort. They have the problem of the Elven wedding and the baddy rearing its ugly head. (I don’t rehash the plot in my reviews – it’s hot men riding dragons, read it.)

Everything’s going to plot and plan and then it stopped. If I had months to wait for book three I’d be annoyed, but I don’t think this will be the case.

What I would have liked is some more character development. Relationship wise they seem to be in the same place in book two as they were at the end of book one, with a little more sex, but having said that I’m still reaching out with grabby hands for book three.

One Cup of Daddy and a Dash of Love by Victoria Sue: New Release Review and Giveaway

August 23, 2020 by Denise

Can an accidental Daddy love a boy for real?

Jensen Cartwright managed to get to forty-seven years old thinking he would never meet a man that wanted the sort of relationship he craved until Dashael literally fell into his arms.

Homeless, and convinced adulthood is some cruel joke forced on him to make him lonely, Dash is overawed by the sexy older man who seems to offer him everything he’s ever wanted including story time, bath time, and special play time.

One Cup of Daddy contains an overworked businessman who finds out that cuddling a sweet boy and keeping him safe might be the best thing he’s ever done, and a scared boy who discovers that finding a Daddy and holding on tight might just be the best recipe for love ever written.

It’s just so cute, this story. I reckon I was in the mood for light and fluffy and very cute because I found Dash so incredibly cute. That’s just the best way to describe this whole thing. See, Dash, who’s real name is Dashael, has had the worst time growing up, yanked away from his grandma, who he loved so much and was really the only person to show him any love or kindness, when he was a child, his father, who he’d never met, comes and takes him to a life of alcohol and abuse. Plagued with debilitating fears of just about everything, when Dash’s grandma dies and leaves him her bakery and home, he’s forced to sell within six months because people are always taking advantage of him and it was just too much to do on his own.

I did not understand how this woman manager got away with the ways she took advantage of him, I didn’t like that he didn’t get retribution for that… I hate when bad guys get away with being bad guys… His father as well, but… we’ll come back to that in a second.

Now, losing everything that’s when he meets Jensen… a very wealthy investor who finds Dash in the bakery he’s thinking of purchasing, hiding from him in a cupboard. Literally. It was the saddest thing, but thankfully, Jensen sees this tiny boy with his teddy, scared out of his mind and much too skinny and pale, so he takes him to the hospital and then home with him because other than the connection he feels immediately, he knew that Dash didn’t need to be on his own. He very obviously wasn’t doing a good job taking care of himself, so he stepped in.

Now, it takes Dash a bit to trust Jensen and he’s not used to anyone doing anything nice for him, especially for no reason. And it takes him a while to be comfortable, though he does love the little cottage and the safety that Jensen offers him.

I love that everything between these two happens so naturally. Jensen is very patient and he seems to adore Dash from the minute he sees him. He wants what’s best for him, which is the first thing that any good Daddy wants for his boy, but having never had that type of relationship before, he’s unsure how to go about everything….it’s okay though because they learn together. New to both of them, when invited to a little’s night at a club where Jensen’s sister and her wife/little and everything just kind of clicks into place for both of them. It’s what they needed, and Dash was seriously just the cutest little. If you haven’t caught on yet, it’s all just really cute!

There were a few things I didn’t care for, Dash’s dad being one. I thought a few things felt out of place and just unlikely to happen, but it was what the story needed to throw a wrench in things and create a problem, and again, we don’t get any real justice for the wrongdoing that Dash went through and that bugged me, but Dash didn’t seem to care, as long as he had Jensen.

I’d be interested in seeing more about these two, they were just so sweet and cute together, it was a nice change. Everything seemed so natural and perfectly timed, it was just a really cute read for me. Okay, I’m going to end this now so I’ll stop saying cute. If you like Daddy/boy relationships with little angst and a cute ending, I’d recommend this one!

Loving Logan (Writing Our Love Novella Book 4) by Sammi Cee: Quick Review

August 21, 2020 by Denise

Logan’s life changed forever six months ago when he lost his best friends and support system. Now it’s up to him to raise the two-year-old son they left behind.

Creed’s family teases him for being a serial dater, but that’s because he refuses to settle. He’s searching for the right person to fall in love with, but no one fits—until he meets the tattooed giant behind the bar.

Logan may look like a tough guy, but he has a shy, vulnerable side that sparks protective instincts Creed didn’t even know he had.

When Creed pursues Logan full stop, will the other man’s insecurities get in the way or will Creed get the love he’s always longed for?

Amazon – Kindle Unlimited

Super sweet romance about a single man raising his 2 year old nephew and a man who up until now hasn’t been able to make any relationship stick.

Logan is still reeling after losing his cousin and his wife, trying to pick up the pieces and raise his 2 year old nephew. Just going through the motions; working as a bartender during the day and spending every second he can with Jakey trying to keep his life as close to normal as possible.

When Logan fills in at the spur of the moment for an evening shift at work he meets Creed. Hot, successful, personable Creed. The exact opposite of the way Logan sees himself. Creed is enamored at first sight and asks Logan out for coffee after his shift, not taking no for an answer.
The two will have to find a balance between getting to know each other and Logan’s need to be the best parent he can to Jakey. Logan soon learns that together is so much better than trying to forge his path alone.

This one is so good. There is family and romance, cute movie dates watching Finding Nemo. I really enjoyed this story. The characters were well developed, the storyline was engaging and makes me want to read it again.

Love Me Daddy by Elouise East: Quick Review

August 21, 2020 by Denise

Will their pasts stop them from striving for a future?

Being homeless makes finding a safe Daddy experience difficult, which is confirmed when Nathan is almost knocked out after calling out the word during a liaison. When Loren steps in to aid him, Nathan is ready to let the strong man take charge. But he won’t ask for what he really needs, not when the reaction could be so extreme.

With many failed relationships in his past, Loren yearns for the perfect boy to cherish, but it’s a fantasy in more ways than one as far as he can tell. Nathan’s vulnerability calls to his protective instincts, but he refuses to cross the line. And then he finds Nathan’s need of him is very real.
When Loren assumes control, it centres them both but as they explore their way through this new dynamic, Nathan needs to learn if he’s going to be Daddy’s good boy or Daddy’s little brat.

Amazon – Kindle Unlimited

Cute novella about a down on his luck young man looking for a daddy and a daddy looking for a boy to call his own. Nathan has been homeless for quite so time but a small accident has Loren running to his rescue. Loren brings Nathan to his house to recover. Taking care of Nathan has all of Loren’s protective daddy instincts rising to the surface. Nathan has never been so looked after in his life. Both of them have some soul searching to do. Nathan will need to find the courage to ask for what he wants and Loren will need to trust Nathan enough to know that’s he sure about his feelings.

Great story line, the characters were well developed and interesting. The daddy/boy dynamic is just what I was looking for.

August 20, 2020 by Denise

Today, to celebrate the release of A Guy Walks Into My Bar by Lauren Blakely, we have an EXCLUSIVE excerpt reveal AND a giveaway for a SIGNED paperback of A Guy Walks Into My Bar, for you. I cannot wait to dig into this one! It looks super hot, fun, and sexy. Check it out below and make sure to enter the giveaway!

A sexy, passionate, utterly addictive standalone MM romance from #1 NYT Bestseller Lauren Blakely!

Every bartender should follow one simple rule—don’t go home with the customers.

That’s been easy for me to stick to, until the night a cocky, confident, and sinfully charming hockey star walks into my bar. This sexy athlete is too hard to resist, especially when he makes it clear how much he wants the “sarcastic, witty, hot AF” guy behind the bar—also known as me.

Still, I’m not keen on breaking my own rules since I know where that can lead—no place good. But when that man makes his case with one bone-searing kiss on the streets of London, I throw resistance out the window.

What could go wrong with a hot, no-strings-attached fling before he leaves town in five days? Trouble is, soon our nights together lead to days, to long conversations, to getting to know each other, and to something I never expected—falling ridiculously hard for a man who’s getting on a plane to America when I live a world away.

My life is here. His is there. And no amount of falling or feeling will change that one big problem.

Warning: contains hot hotel nights, loads of dirty talk, PDA all over London, and two sexy, witty, charming heroes…

Fitz scrubs a hand across the back of his neck, his voice hoarse. “You’re killing me. You are the sexiest man I’ve ever met. You know that, right?”

People say things in the heat of the moment, but he looks like he means it.

“I suspect it’ll be hard for you to walk right now. Why don’t I go ahead and I’ll meet you in the lobby, and you can think about tea cakes or the queen or something on the way over?”

He shakes his head. “Nope. Don’t care. And I’m not letting you out of my sight.”

He pays the bill and rises, an impressive impression in his trousers.

Well, I’m not complaining about that.

✨TEASER: YARD SALE by @authoremlindsey releasing August 27th!#PreOrderNowa.co/d/06QyQOeF Why you need to #ONECLICK this book…🔥Enemies to Lovers🔥Hockey Bro Banter🔥Sports Reporter/Hockey Player🔥Hurt/Comfort🔥Only One Bed🔥MM Romance🔥Fake Relationship“Would you rather be trapped in a cabin with your arch enemy, or not be allowed to shower for a hundred days?”Problem number one: My arch enemy is the jackass reporter who keeps making up lies about me.Problem number two: He’s also absurdly hot so the idea of being trapped in a cabin with him gives me ideas.Problem number three: As much as he pisses me off, Aravind Gupta might actually be right about a few things: namely that my career in hockey is probably over.A poorly timed check might have robbed me of being able to retire old and with nearly half of my original teeth, and Aravind was right there on the front lines to tell the world about it.In a wild attempt to get away and figure out what comes next, I find him on my same ferry, heading out to a quiet island where I planned to do nothing but bed rot.Aravind has other ideas though, and he makes those known before we’re even off the boat. And while it’s not like me to want to sleep with a man I can’t stand, somehow, he’s turned into the only bright light in the dark shadows my terrible family casts.I might not be used to believing in myself, but with Aravind’s quiet and gentle persistence, I’m starting to think that despite what I’ve always been taught, I deserve my happily ever after.Yard Sale is the third and final book of the Legends and Fury trilogy. It’s a rivals to lovers romance featuring a tired, injured D-man with a crappy family who is failing to cope at life, a reluctant reporter with a thing for lace and silk who is doing his best to figure out who he is and what he wants, sandcastles, walks on the beach, making unique use of panties, the joys of too many aunties coming to visit, and a steamy, swoony happily ever after.✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up here for this amazing release: bit.ly/YARDSALESIGNUP#emlindsey #mmromance The Author Agency ... ✨TEASER: TOPPED by @charlienwrites releasing September 3rd!#PreOrderNowmybook.to/lickitthree Why you need to #ONECLICK this book…🍦Former “Enemies” To Lovers🍦False First Impressions🍦Communication Is Sexy 🍦A Pet Snake Named Elizabeth Bennet🍦Ice Cream Gifts🍦“Teach Me To Say Please”🍦ADHD Rep (Diagnosed & Undiagnosed)🍦Rejection Sensitivity Rep🍦Supportive & Nosy Friends🍦Spicy & Swoony🍦MM romanceTop It With Cream & Say PleaseHaving spent the summer antagonising Rupert, the gorgeous sweet shop owner next door, I’m ready to make amends. Unfortunately, he thinks I’m a prick. Rupert might be uptight and annoying, but he’s also the most interesting man I’ve ever met, and I’m utterly intrigued by him. When one casual hangout blossoms into friendship, I can’t help feeling I’ve misjudged the man I’ve spent months annoying. But Rupert guards his heart carefully. He’s convinced nobody wants to be around someone so prickly and sensitive, and refuses to let anyone in. I’m not one to back down from a challenge, and I know there’s more to the bright, beautiful man next door than he’s ever let anyone see. It won’t be easy, but I’m determined to show Rupert he’s not the unlovable irritation he believes himself to be. In fact, we might just be perfect for each other.✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up to review this awesome release: bit.ly/toppedsignup#coverreveal #charlienovak #mmromance The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less

Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
✨ EXCERPT: HEAL ME, LOVE ME by @authorkimberlyknight & @rachellynadams releasing August 3rd! Pre-Order now at your favorite book vendor as it will be exclusive to Amazon on release day! #PreOrderNowAmazon a.co/d/0aP00Kac Apple apple.co/4b8fn3H Nook bit.ly/4alb3Om Kobo bit.ly/44usF6U When we reached the airport, the sun was shining over the terminal. Cars stopped in the drop-off zone, trunks popped open, and people dragged suitcases to the curb, trying to look more awake than they felt.I found an open spot and parked. Rowan reached for the door handle first, and then I got out too. I walked around to the back of the car and lifted his suitcase and gym bag from the trunk while he adjusted his backpack’s strap. People walked past us toward the sliding glass door, not paying any attention to us as we stood on the sidewalk and stared at each other. He studied my face, taking his time, as I did the same with him. He looked tired, his hair was a mess, and his mouth was set in that stubborn way it got when he was trying not to let too much show.It was annoying how much I loved him.I’d spent years telling myself Rowan was something I’d survived, a mistake that taught me not to trust the good shit when things finally went my way.Now he was standing in front of me, a boarding pass on his phone and my hoodie in his bag, and all I could think was that I’d finally gotten him back, just in time to have him leave all over again. He reached for me, and my arms went around his back as his wrapped around my waist. I pressed my face into his neck, breathing him in like I could savor his scent until I saw him again.“I don’t want to let go,” I whispered.“Me either.”“Then don’t make me do it first.”He hugged me harder. “Okay.”💙Start book 1 in this duet, Fight Me, Break Me, available now in KU a.co/d/0aSoP40p #coverreveal #kimberlyknight #rachellynadams #mmromance The Author Agency ...
