A Forced Silence by Cate Ashwood : Blog Tour, Excerpt, Review and Giveaway

December 19, 2015 by Denise

ForcedSilence[A]FSsynopsis

For paramedic Adam Carson, his world is lights and sirens and saving lives. Pressures at work keep him firmly in the closet, and life is too busy to contend with the complications that come with dating and relationships. When a familiar face from his past turns up where he least expects it, Adam starts to question whether or not there is room in his life for those complications.

The last person forensic pathologist Sam McKenna expects to see at pub night is Adam, the guy who made his life hell in high school. The attraction is instant, but Adam isn’t gay and Sam has no interest in pursuing him. Still, the leftover animosity from their teenage years isn’t enough to extinguish the lust growing between them. After both are called to the scene of a horrific murder, Adam admits he’s not as straight as he led Sam to believe and they seek comfort and distraction in each other’s arms. One night becomes many as the murder investigation intensifies, but when Adam is faced with losing Sam, he is forced to make a choice: to break his silence, or to give up everything for the job he loves.

denise review

This was my first book by Cate Ashwood, and I will say that immediately after finishing A Forced Silence, I went an grabbed Tasting Notes to read that as well. It seems I have some books to catch up on to get through her library.

The story of these two men began in high school, with Sam (aka Dex) and Adam being at odds, an enemies to lovers story. Dealing with not only the murder of a young man, both the paramedic who dealt with it at the scene and the forensic pathologist who gave voice to the young man who died, had to find a way to not only co-exist, but quickly gave into their passion.

One thing that was exceptional to me was Adam being in the closet. Now, this is nothing new, quite often we read about characters struggling to get out of the closet, wondering how it will affect their family, friends, co-workers, etc. However, in the case of Adam, I loved how Sam reacted. He let it be. He didn’t try to force Adam out of the closet. He didn’t tell him he was silly for being in the closet. He respected his decision, and let him know that if and when he was ready to come out he would be there, but he wasn’t going to be the one to push him out.

Their relationship was well connected, as these were two very fleshed out characters, with not only history between them, but passion, and both with a need to help people.

I did find the ending rather abrupt. It had a little bit of a cliffhanger (not with the relationship), but it just felt slightly unfinished. There were a few questions that should have been dealt with, and its entirely possible the next book may deal with them. However, I did feel that at least one or two needed to be dealt with in this book, as it was specific to these characters, and not the overall arc of the secondary storyline.

In the end, I still found it an enjoyable read.

excerpt

“Ah, here they are,” Ford said, turning his head toward two men who were making their way to the table.

“Adam, John, this is Sam. Sam, these are two of the city’s ugliest heroes, John and Adam.” Ford made the introductions as John slid into a chair across from him, lifting his head in greeting.

Sam swallowed hard, barely registering anything other than the man still standing in front of him. Adam Carson. He watched as recognition dawned in Adam’s eyes and a slow smirk appeared on his face. It was the same familiar cocky expression he wore when Sam knew him a billion years earlier.

“You sure have grown up, Dexter,” Adam said, exercising the nickname he had used for him all through school.Banner300x250(2)

Sam lifted one eyebrow. “It seems you haven’t.”

“You two know each other?” Ford asked, eyebrows lifted in question.

“Oh, me and Dex go way back,” Adam supplied, never taking his eyes off Sam.

“Dex?”

Sam rolled his eyes. Ford was his friend, but that didn’t mean he wanted to rehash the shit that happened back in high school. That name was one that haunted him right through the twelfth grade. When he moved, he tucked it safely away, but tonight, it seemed, it had followed him.

“Long story,” Adam said. “It’s good to see you. It’s been a long time.”

BLURB:

After five years, Alex Stern and Rafe Hazelton have what seems to be the perfect marriage. Alex is entering his last years of residency and Rafe’s veterinary business is busier than ever. For Rafe, all that is missing is a child, but Alex, afraid of ending up to be a man like his father, isn’t as sure. He doesn’t want to make any mistakes.

When a new patient enters the hospital, Alex is drawn to the young, desperately ill single mother, who shares her fears for the future of her young son. Rafe worries about the toll on Alex becoming emotionally invested in a patient, yet he too can’t walk away once he meets the little boy, and together they vow to help in any way possible.

Families are not always born of blood— love is a gift no one can plan for. And sometimes from the darkest of tragedies, the brightest light will shine.

This is a 25k word novella in the Memories series.

denise review

Did I need tissues? Yes, of course I did, its a Felice Stevens book after all. 🙂 But they were happy tears-mostly.
Reading this was all about revisiting with old friends, Alex and Rafe, Micah and Josh, their combined families, as well as meeting new friends, Jude and the little boy that captures the heart of the family.
What I enjoyed most was not just revisiting with them, but finding new places for these men to go in their lives. Alex was so determined to keep pushing the idea of a child aside, and yet fate, despite all of Alex’s grumblings, stepped in and took over. With his residency, and his fears, the only way to get through to him was to just have fate decide for him.
I liked that it wasn’t a quick fix, or even a quick timeframe for these men to fall in love with this little boy. Felice didn’t make this happen in three days of (book) time. There was time written in, outings that happened, and even just hanging out, and learning to love each other as a family.
So worth every second. 4 pieces of eye candy

EXCERPT

“Are you asking me to walk away from it?” Sometimes in the night he’d wake up and ask himself if it was worth it, so he understood Rafe’s concern. But then he remembered Seth’s words, inscribed in his heart—if you give up, maybe that one person whose life you can help won’t make it because you aren’t there.

And that meant everything was worthwhile.

“No, of course not. I know how hard you’ve worked. It’s hard to see you sad, that’s all I’m saying.” Rafe toyed with the beer bottle. “I don’t want you to change from the happy person you always were.”

“Am I?”

His greatest fear, the one that prevented him from adopting a child and giving Rafe that family unit was losing his joy and becoming bitter and disillusioned, like so many others.

Without answering, Rafe took his hand and led him to the sofa where they sat down together, legs entwined.

“No, not yet. But I could see how easily it might happen. I know you’re doing it because of your brother—”

“No, you have it all wrong. It may have started out to beat what killed Seth, but now I want it because I feel as if I am making a difference. That if I help one person it can be the start of helping two or three.”

Alex needed this validation from Rafe, the person he loved beyond anything to ground him. While this residency was brutal emotionally, the rewards it reaped were worth the toil and he’d gladly give of himself if it helped his patients. He needed to know that Rafe wouldn’t give up on him and their marriage.

“I want to keep on with it but I don’t want to lose you in the process. If I become a different person or you see me change for the worse you need to point it out to me; smack me in the head and tell me I’m fucking us up.”

There was such tenderness in Rafe’s eyes, and his lips curved in a smile. “You’ll never lose me; I’m in it for the long haul. It’s you I worry about. I don’t want you to lose yourself.”

There was a sense of peace wrapping his arms around Rafe to hold him close; something special and wondrous in being secluded from the rest of the world with the one person who understood and never judged him, who merely loved and provided a warm and safe harbor to return home to every time.

“I’ll try not to.” He rubbed his feet over Rafe’s, warming them up against his socks. “But if I do, make sure you look hard.”

“You could never hide from me,” said Rafe kissing his cheek. “No matter where you go, I’ll always find where you are.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Felice Stevens has always been a romantic at heart. While life is tough, she believes there is a happy ending for everyone. She started reading traditional historical romances as a teenager, then life and law school got in the way. It wasn’t until she picked up a copy of Bertrice Small and became swept away to Queen Elizabeth’s court that her interest in romance novels was renewed.

But somewhere along the way, her reading shifted to stories of men falling in love. Once she picked up her first gay romance, she became so enamored of the character-driven stories and the overwhelming emotion there was no turning back.

Felice lives in New York City with her husband and two children. Her day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. Although she practices law, she daydreams of a time when she can sit by a beach and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there is bound to be some angst along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.

December 11, 2015 by Denise

Title: Jinxed
Series: The Rock Series #2
Author: Sandrine Gasq-Dion
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: October 29, 2015
synopsis

Jinx Jett is a rock superstar. As such, the hunky Skull Blasters drummer thoroughly enjoys the many perks of willing groupies, earning him a reputation as the band slut. Making it big and scoring hot women is something Jinx never expected. There’s a little voice in the back of his mind constantly reminding him of how he used to be — shy, overweight and acne prone. One night in a gay bar turns life upside down when Jinx runs into Jayden Dempsey, a kid he’s been fantasizing about since giving him his autograph at a mall. Long-held insecurities keep Jinx from fully committing to anyone, and he may lose Jayden if he can’t put his past behind him.

Jayden Dempsey always wanted out of his life in small-town Alabama. When his parents kicked him out after he told them he was gay, Jayden decided the time was right to move on. He crosses the country to try out for ‘Singers!’, a show that propels unknowns to stardom. In a twist, producers choose him and three others as winners and form a boy band called London Boys. This season, the show brings Jayden and the guys back for the finale. Surprise! The contest’s heavy metal finalist will be singing with Skull Blasters.

Jinx and Jayden’s initial meeting doesn’t go so well, and Jayden’s stunned when the guy he’s crushed on for years turns out to be a total jerk. It doesn’t stop him from falling into Jinx’s arms every time they’re alone, but Jayden didn’t sign on for one nighters. He wants Jinx Jett, baggage and all.

Can a former teen outcast put rejection behind him and embrace the acceptance standing right in front of him? How much will one boy bander put up with from his rock idol before enough is enough? Can they make it work? Or are they jinxed in love?

I really enjoyed this new addition from Sandy. I couldn’t wait for Jinx’s story. I am definitely hooked on this new series. Her characters are fun and so full of life. You never know what to expect.

Jinx has some issues he is working through and falling in love was the last thing he expected. He’s the love em and leave em kind of guy. Seeing him brought to his knees was a sight to behold.

Jayden grew up in a small town in Alabama. When he came out to his parents, it turned his whole life upside down. Jayden picked himself back up and chased his dreams. He was such a sweet guy.

Jinx and Jayden had amazing chemistry and the sex was scorching. Both of these men had struggles they had to overcome before they could make the relationship work. I loved getting to watch them fall in love.

The secondary characters in Sandy’s stories never disappoint. She makes us fall in love with each and every one. There is a sneak peek at her next book in the series at the very end of Jinxed so make sure you check out Fret if you haven’t already. Sandy always tells a wonderful story full of every type of emotion and she nailed it again with Jinxed.

5 pieces of eye candy from me.

“This book was one that I couldn’t put down once I started reading, and I absolutely loved the storyline, and it actually changed how I thought of Jinx too, he is not a shallow person at all, in fact he is the complete opposite. I also look forward to seeing how Jayden and Jinx get on together in future books too.”~ Gay Media Reviews ☆☆☆☆☆

“Well, Sandrine Gasq-Dion has done again by banging out another winner with Jinxed, her second book from her Rock Series.”~ Goodreads Reviewer ☆☆☆☆☆

“I am quite anxious for the next book in this story, Gasq–Dion has been teasing it for two books now. Definitely a must read series, full of sexy rockers that are passionate about every aspect of their lives, personal and professional.”~ Author T.M. Smith ☆☆☆☆☆
excerpt

The stall next to the one I was in opened and a man walked out. His eyes met mine and widened.
“Oh, fuck me,” he whispered.
In two seconds flat, I was back at the mall with that golden-haired hottie with the bubbled ass of fantasies. His clear, blue eyes were still fixated on me as I moved forward.
“I know you,” I said stupidly.
“Oh my God! I thought … the door closed, so I thought … holy shit! I just sucked Jinx Jett’s cock?”
“Could you not yell that?” I snapped. “I’m not … well, you know …”
“Gay?” he drawled. “Here’s a tip — don’t come to a gay club and stuff your cock into a glory hole!”
“It’s Jayden, right? You’re the guy from the mall?”
“You remember my name? Wait, okay, back up here for just a minute. Why are you here?”
“I was, um, curious?”
“Well, that’s just great. Another guy ‘curious’ about gay men.” Jayden lifted his fingers to indicate air quotes.
“I didn’t know if I should stay or what. I mean, how does this work? Do I thank you for a fabulous blowjob? Tipping seems to cross a legal line …”
“You liked it?” Jayden gaped in astonishment.
“Like it?” I laughed. “Fuck yeah, I fucking loved it.”

excerpt

“Talk.” Gareth pointed at me.
“I had sex Saturday night,” I blurted out.
“Okay, that’s not exactly ‘stop the presses’ stuff.” Gareth raised his brows.
“It was with a guy.”
“Hmmm. Still not major news.”
Hammer chuckled and my head snapped toward him. He winked at me and went back to what he was doing. What the fuck? The guy never speaks but he winks? Gareth snapped his fingers in front of me and I turned back to him.
“What do you mean ‘not major news’?” I asked curiously.
“Hello? You’re talking to little Gareth O’Donovan, remember? I was at your house a million times as a kid. I remember your secret CD collection and your love of Lance Bass.”
“Could you keep your voice down?” I leaned forward, trying to see the other guys up front.
“Whatever. What do you care what they think? They’ll have your back, and you know it. You were my hero when I was a kid. You’d always talk to me about the guys and the newest album you got. Hell, you loaned me one of them. You always had time for me.”
I stared at Gareth and he smiled. Damn, the kid had grown so much. I still couldn’t believe he was married. It seemed surreal.
“It was because of you that I realized I wanted to have sex with Justin Timberlake,” Gareth chuckled.
Hammer busted out laughing at that point and we both turned to stare at him. He shrugged his shoulders and grunted.

excerpt

“I was with Jinx Jett on Saturday night.” Evander tripped and I grabbed his elbow before he fell. His mouth opened, then shut, then opened again. I ushered him into the bathroom and checked all the stalls. I felt like I was back in high school.
“You fucked him?” Evander’s eyes were wide.
“That’d be a no. I was the catcher.”
“Wow.” Evander leaned against the wall. “I didn’t think he was gay.”
“I think he might be bi. I mean, it didn’t really seem to faze him that he fucked a guy.”
“Well, he’s never really addressed that in interviews, either. I think the last interview he did with the band, the question was raised and he said, and I quote, ‘Does it really matter?’” Evander smiled at me. “You like him.”
“Um, yeah. Did you not get that when we saw him at the mall?”
“Well, he is hot.” Evander shot me a wicked grin.
“It’s not even how he looks. Have you seen his pictures when he was a kid? He was so adorable, even back then. Those pouty lips, those eyes.” I sighed. “He’s so damn talented, too.”
“Yeah, you mentioned that in our radio interview,” Evander laughed. “I think you spent the last five minutes of it talking about Jinx.”
“Hey, they asked,” I shrugged.
“We need to get to practice.” Evander opened the bathroom door. He looked back at me. “So, no details about his dick?”
“No.”
“A guy can try.”

excerpt

“Jayden? What are you doing here?”
“I’m in the show.”
“Oh, are you a finalist? I didn’t see you in the lineup.”
“Nope. I’m last season’s winner.”
“Last season?” Jinx furrowed his brow. “I missed last season.”
Evander and the guys came back, trailed by Sebastian, Jericho, and one of the other finalists whose name I couldn’t remember no matter how many times I was reminded. Jericho winked at me and I smiled.
“Well!” Sebastian’s voice boomed over the empty stage. “I see you guys are all getting to know one another. This is Jericho, our first heavy metal finalist, and this is Scott,” Sebastian motioned to the other guy. “He’s more of an alternative kind of guy. Gareth, where are the rest of your guys?”
“Right behind us,” Gareth answered.
“Oooh, I sense some chemistry over there,” Scott crooned. “Heavy metal is joining the boy band? I didn’t know you liked them so … pretty, Jinx.”
“Wait, what?” Jinx spun around.
“Oh yeah,” Scott continued maliciously. “Jayden and his merry band of mates make up London Boys.”
Jinx spun back to me, a look of absolute horror on his face. “You’re in a boy band?” he almost whispered.
“Guilty.” I held up my hands.
“You like ’em, huh, Jinx?” Scott leered.
I wanted to slap Scott in the face. No wonder I couldn’t remember his name — it wasn’t worth remembering. Jinx backed away from me and I took a step forward.
“Don’t.” Jinx lowered his voice so that I only I could hear him. “I can’t believe you’re in a fucking boy band! You guys barely sing, you just go na-na-na-naaaa, and you don’t even play instruments!”
I recoiled as if I’d been the one slapped. Jinx was staring at me as if I were a serial killer. The anger boiled up and I lashed out.
“Fuck you, Jinx!” I stomped offstage, Evander hot on my heels.

excerpt

“Can I get some clothes?”
“I like you in a robe.” Jinx waggled his brows.
I started for the door and Jinx jumped up and grabbed my hand. He pushed me into the wall and gently pinned my hands above my head.
“Jinx …”
I gasped as his thigh insinuated itself between my legs, rubbing my balls.
“Yeah?” his breath caressed my lips.
“I … fuck … stop doing that,” I panted.
“This?” Jinx raised his knee higher and rubbed my dick.
My God, my mouth actually started watering as Jinx leaned in closer to me, letting his tongue trail my bottom lip. I wanted to taste him so fucking bad my whole body hurt. I wanted him. I couldn’t deny it.
“Fuck, you are sexy as sin,” Jinx rumbled against my lips. “Love your lips, your eyes, even your fucking hair turns me on.”
I clenched my eyes shut and tried to stay in control.
“Yeah? Even if I’m a talentless pretty boy?”
Jinx stiffened. He pulled back slowly and searched my eyes.
“I’m sorry I said that.”
“Yeah? Why did you say it? What’s your problem with me being in a boy band?”
Jinx sighed and let my hands go. He rubbed his hands down his face and exhaled slowly. I continued to speak because by that time, my word vomit had begun.
“I don’t even like boy bands, but you know what? This is where I am and fuck it! I’m successful. Do you know I auditioned with one of your band’s songs?” Jinx’s gasp was very audible in the room. His eyes widened. “Yep, that’s right. I sang Manwhore; the song fits you.”
“I deserve that.”
“Are you going to tell me what your problem is?” I placed my hands on my hips, glaring at him.

excerpt

Oh fuck.
“I thought…” Jayden blinked and shook his head.
“Are you all right, Jinx?” Achilles asked sharply.
“I’m fine.”
“Ma’am? Could you button your blouse, please?” Achilles addressed the woman with no expression on his face.
I walked around Arielle and approached Jayden. He backed up, still shaking his head.
“Jayden…” I reached out to him.
“No.” Jayden lifted his chin. “Don’t worry about it. I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”
He turned and ran down the corridor and I started to follow, but Achilles gripped my bicep and held me back. Arielle walked past us, straightening her shirt.
“Maybe next time?” she cooed, completely oblivious.
No and just … no. God, was I so wrapped up in Jayden that I couldn’t even function with women? Seemed that way.
Achilles dragged me into the corridor and shut the bedroom doors behind me. He turned to face me and I saw anger in those cool eyes.
“What?” I said in defiance. “This is who I am.”
“Bullshit,” he snapped. “It’s who you used to be. Jayden was worried you’d been drugged or something so he came and found me.”
My mouth dropped open in surprise. I’d never heard Achilles speak that forcefully. His brows were furrowed and his glare went right through me.
“Don’t play with people’s emotions, Jinx. That’s not you,” he continued.
“How the fuck do you know who I am?”
“I’ve been watching you. I know more than you think, Jinx. Jayden sees you, the real you, not the guy you show everyone else. Either let him go, or reel him in ─ but don’t fuck with his head.”

synopsis

Thornwell Shipton is wealthy, uptight, closeted, and an incurable workaholic. A tragic love affair left him terrified of relationships, so he tells himself sex is better scheduled and paid for.

Riley Dashwood is young, easy-going, and comfortable in his own skin. He’s a passionate baker and an aspiring chef, working as an escort to save up for culinary school.

They’re clearly made for each other.

When Thorne hires Dash, it’s lust at first sight. After a few scorching nights together, both men start to wonder if what’s between them is more than physical, but their age gap and resistance to romance make them afraid to change their professional relationship to a personal one. Dash pushes Thorne to admit he wants things he’s denied himself for years. Kinky things. Soft, caring things. Things that force him to open his heart, not just his body. To move forward, one or the other must take a risk and ask for what he really wants.

denise reviewI’ll admit it’s been a while since I had a solid, without question 5 pieces of eye candy review. I’m not sure if it is due to my reading patterns lately, or a mood, or the sun and the earth being separated from each other more than they were 3 months ago. But I do know it has been some time. With me, one of the ways I know for sure its a 5 star read is if I know it is a re-read, and this book is definitely in the re-read category.

This was my first Silvia Violet read. I was more than impressed. I think she did a fantastic job, creating a storyline that was realistic, super sexy, and showed a slow burn love.

Now, this was not a slow burn when it came to the sex, since Dash was an escort, and met with Thorne the first time when he was scheduled to join him on a Friday night, for an evening of sex. But working from sex to love, took time, along with a lot of growth with these men. They had to learn to love themselves, and live with their choices, before they could fully embrace the love they felt for each other.

I do love a good erotic romance, and this was by far, one of the best I have read in ages. Sexy, hot, and surprising are all words I would use to describe this book. You would not have expected a man who was twenty years his junior, to have found the buttons that pushed Thorne so perfectly, so quickly. Dash was comfortable in his sexuality, as well as his temporary job choice, and had no problems with finding what flipped Thorne’s switch and dominating him, just as they both wanted.

How have I missed Silvia Violet’s books up until now? I have no idea, but I will say, that I am going to be looking at her backlist and finding a few more of her books to put in my TBR.

Without question, 5 pieces of eye candy, and I’m already trying to squeeze in a re-read. 🙂 Thank you Silvia!

excerpt

Thorne’s workweek was just as bad as he’d expected it to be. At least, the memories of Dash and the anticipation of what was to come once he was back in town on Friday made it bearable, more than bearable actually. He’d jacked off every single night in the hotel, thinking of Dash while he finger-fucked himself and pretended it was Dash’s cock inside him.

That afternoon, he’d had a final tedious meeting with the client who claimed to want his advice but argued with him every fucking step of the way. A delay at the airport did nothing to ease Thorne’s annoyance. His neck and shoulders ached with tension by the time he landed in Atlanta. He couldn’t wait to see Dash. After coaxing, pushing, and manipulating clients all week, he wanted to let go and concentrate on nothing but pleasure. He was so eager to be held down, forced, and used that he had to move his jacket in front of him to hide his hard-on as he stood in the taxi line.

He reached home with barely time to clean up and change before Dash arrived. When he emerged from the shower, he slipped on his plush terry robe, another one of the luxuries he afforded himself. The robe had cost more than some of his colleagues’ suits, but he had the money, and he loved the feel of the soft fabric against his skin. He figured there was no need to dress since he hoped to be naked within minutes of Dash arriving. This time he wasn’t going to let Dash distract him. He was going to get down to business right away.

The buzzer alerted him to a visitor before he had a chance to pour himself a cocktail, but that was fine—even the best bourbon was no match for Dash.

“Mr. Dash is here to see you, sir. Shall I send him up?” Michaels asked.

“Yes, thank you.”

“You’re welcome, sir.”

Thorne frowned at the agitated state of his stomach. Butterflies. Fucking butterflies. He’d hired this man, and he was—oh fuck, why’d he have to think of that—twenty years younger.

Dash knocked, the same two sharp taps as last week.

Once Thorne let him in, Dash eyed him appreciatively. “Dressed for the occasion?”

“And why shouldn’t I be?” Thorne asked as he pushed the door shut.

“It’s a good look for you.” Dash’s gaze traveled down Thorne’s body. “You have beautiful feet.”

“Is that a thing for you?” Thorne asked, wiggling his toes.

Dash laughed. “So you can be playful after all.”

Thorne snorted at his impertinence.

“And my thing is whatever my client wants.”

Thorne raised a brow, challenging him.

“It’s not a particular fetish of mine—though I appreciate beauty in all forms and places—but I aim to serve my clients’ needs.”

“Or to tell them what those needs are.”

“Is that what you’d like me to do today?” Dash asked. He seemed to grow a few inches taller as he let the commanding persona settle over him.

Thorne ignored him. Dash had his messenger bag with him again, but he was also carrying a white paper bag that smelled of cake—rich cake.

“What’s that?” Thorne reached for the bag.

Dash slapped his hand away. “It’s a surprise for later.”

Thorne frowned. “Why do I feel like you wanted to tack ‘if you’re a good boy’ on to that sentence?”

Dash laughed. “Maybe I did.”

“I told you I—”

“Don’t do submissive. And I told you I wasn’t so sure you didn’t.”

Thorne hated how right Dash might be. “Look—”

Dash held up a hand. “I have an idea for tonight. Would you like me to run with it and see where it takes us, or are you going to wrestle control?”

Why the fuck did that sound so sexy—grappling with Dash, fighting for who would be on top. “Is both an option?”

Dash grinned. “We’ll have to see.”

“Worried about an old guy’s stamina?”

“You don’t seem the least bit old to me.”

Dash’s statement caught Thorne off guard, because it wasn’t made in the same playful tone. It sounded serious, heartfelt. Or maybe Thorne’s brain was too clouded by lust to tell. “I’d like to hear your idea.”

Dash set the paper bag down on the coffee table and unzipped his satchel. He pulled out a plug—not the giant vibrating one that had caught Thorne’s attention the week before—a basic one that was large enough to make a man really feel it but not scare him.

Thorne inclined his head toward the plug. “I like it so far.”

“Then turn around.”

Thorne almost protested. But he was the one who’d insisted they get right down to business.

“Kneel on the couch and brace yourself on the back.”

After a few scorching nights together, both men start to wonder if what’s between them is more than physical, but their age gap and resistance to romance make them afraid to change their professional relationship to a personal one. guest review

This wasn’t my first time reading Silvia Violet, and it certainly won’t be my last! One thing I’ve come to expect from her writing is hot, well-written scenes, but never to the point of excess. I read books for the storyline, so I’m easily turned off if there’s too much heat and not enough substance.

I knew going in that Dash and Thorne’s story was going to be sex heavy. After all, they did meet because Thorne was looking for a rent boy and Dash showed up at his door. That story would’ve been pretty lame if there hadn’t been copious amounts of steamy sex.

What drew me in was the way Dash kept chipping away at Thorne’s defenses. So many times, seeing one man trying to push another into submission crosses that icky line and it feels like forcing someone to do what they’re adamantly opposed to. Silvia Violet never once crossed that line. Instead, she created a wonderful young man with dominant tendencies and the ability to read his partner like a book. Yes, he wanted to push Thorne out of his comfort zone, but not so much that it was uncomfortable to the reader.

It was refreshing to see the communication between them, at least when they were naked. Dash always made sure Thorne knew there was a way out, even though he was going to push. He talked to Thorne about what he had planned. And Thorne submitted beautifully, even when he did resist.

Thorne and Dash have a complicated relationship. The scenarios which may have annoyed me under different circumstances worked well in Professional Distance. I can’t wait to see what happens with their relationship in the second book. Which, by the way, can’t come out soon enough!

deanna review

I can’t say enough good things about this book. I absolutely adored it.

The story of a closeted Thornewell Shipton who due to a tragic loss has buried his grief under an impossible workload and effervescent Riley Dashwood who is working as an escort to put himself through culinary school.

Thorne only allows himself Friday nights to indulge with an escort service. When his usual escort retires he is forced out of his comfort zone by Dash. Dash instantly recognizes that Thorne is only existing, not really living. He makes it his mission to show Thorne what he is missing out on, whether he likes it or not.

Dash and Thorne must each come to terms with their growing feelings and decide if they want to leave the safety of a “professional” relationship.

I loved the chemistry between Dash and Thorne. Dash was able to bring Thorne “back to life” essentially while still being sensitive to the fact that he wasn’t “out of the closet.” The sex scenes were super hot without taking over the whole story. Silvia Violet was able to create a perfect balance of steamy scenes and character build up.

excerpt

Thorne’s intercom buzzed. “A Mr. Dash is here to see you. He says he’s expected. Shall I send him up?”

“Yes, Je-Michaels, thank you.” Michaels had only been working as a doorman in Thorne’s building for a few weeks, yet Thorne had lost count of the number of times he’d almost called the man Jeeves. Michaels’ British accent and starched appearance simply begged for it. Years ago he’d loved to watch and re-watch the Masterpiece Theatre version of Wodehouse’s Jeeves and Wooster, with Clint, his—boyfriend was certainly not right, even lover didn’t fit—boss. His boss whom he’d occasionally fucked. Now, he couldn’t remember the last time he’d watched anything but videos of junior consultants’ meetings.

Two crisp knocks at the door signaled that Dash had made the long elevator ride to his penthouse apartment.

Thorne’s pulse sped up. He resented how very much he needed this respite from work, these moments where he actually let go of all his clients’ woes and indulged himself. Yet he kept paying for it, every week that he was in town. He imagined being fucked roughly, hands held down, as Dash whispered dirty words in his ear. By the time Thorne reached the door, he was already hard. Dash damn well better work out; but whether or not Thorne requested him to come back, he was going to get fucked tonight.

He checked the peephole out of habit, although Michaels and the other doormen were quite strict about checking credentials before allowing anyone in the building. The young man standing at Thorne’s door appeared to be in his early twenties, as were most of the service’s employees. He had dirty-blond hair that curled loosely and was longer than he could have worn it if he’d worked in Thorne’s office. His hazel eyes had a mischievous look to them that held promise. His smile, however, wasn’t at all what Thorne was expecting. It was fresh and sunny and it reached his eyes, a true smile, like he was meeting a friend, not conducting illicit business.

Quit trying to read so much into him. This isn’t a business meeting where you have to size up the clients. It’s a fucking hook-up that you paid for.

Thorne opened the door.

“Mr. Shipton?” the boy asked.

Thorne nodded and stepped back so Dash could enter.

“I’m Dash; Sheila told me you were a client of Marc’s.” Dash lifted the strap of the messenger bag he carried over his head and sat the bag against the wall in the entryway.

“That’s right,” Thorne answered. “He suited my needs perfectly.”

“And you think I won’t?”

Fuck. Was he that transparent or was this kid that good? “What I think is that the rapport I had with Marc was hard to find.”

“He’s a switch and a damn good one.” Dash’s look said he knew that from personal experience.

“Correct.”

“So am I.” Dash smiled, and Thorne reacted as if he’d wrapped his hand around Thorne’s dick.

Thorne’s gaze moved down Dash’s body. He was shorter than Marc, who’d matched Thorne’s six feet, maybe five feet nine or five feet ten. His body was lean but not without muscle. If Thorne had to guess, he’d say Dash was a runner. His tight black pants clung to his body, giving the impression he had a rather nice package.

“Shall I make you a drink while we discuss exactly what you’d like tonight?” Dash asked, wandering toward the kitchen.

It took a few seconds for the words to register in Thorne’s brain. Dash was…hot, fucking hot. But there was something else about him, something Thorne couldn’t define, that had Thorne salivating to get him naked and in bed. If Thorne believed in anything as hokey as “auras,” he would’ve said Dash had a powerful one. Thorne pushed the thought away, disgusted. Too much work and too little sex must have fried his brain. He’d been so busy that week he hadn’t even found time to jerk off.

“I don’t need a drink, and I don’t want to talk.”

Dash grinned and propped himself against the bar in the kitchen area, cocking his hip out. The pose was obviously calculated to make Thorne appreciate his slim waist. “That eager, huh?”

“I realize some people hire escorts for companionship. They want to know someone is listening to them. I’m sick of talking: to clients, to employees, to fucking airport desk agents. I don’t need you to pretend to be my friend. I need to be fucked.”

“Sure of that, are you?” Dash asked, walking around the bar and entering the kitchen.

“Yes.”

synopsis

Two very different men with a tumultuous history must overcome challenges from all sides and see past their society’s rules to realize they are destined for one another.

Raised to become alpha of the Yafenack pack, Samuel Goodwin dedicates his life to studying shifter laws, strengthening his body, and learning from his father. But despite his best efforts, Samuel can’t relate to people, including those he’s supposed to lead.

When Samuel meets Korban Keller, the son of a neighboring pack’s alpha, he reacts with emotion instead of intellect for the first time in his life. Resenting the other shifter for throwing him off-balance, Samuel first tries to intimidate Korban and then desperately avoids him. What he can’t do is forget Korban’s warm eyes, easy smile, and happy personality.

When a battle between their fathers ends tragically, Samuel struggles to lead his pack while Korban works to break through Samuel’s emotional barriers.

denise review

Usually I skip by shifter stories. Sometimes they are so complicated to understand, and the rest of the story doesn’t make sense to my analytical mind. But I am enjoying the Mates collection by Cardeno C.

Samuel was a complicated, yet very simplistic character. He tries, but just can’t connect to his people. He truly does not understand people’s emotions, their need for him as a person, not just a leader. And upon his meeting with his true mate, he doesn’t connect with him then, either. He assumes that Korban is out to get him, or has some sort of agenda.

Korban waits patiently, and finally you see Samuel beginning to grow as a person, finding the connection with his mate, after the tragedy between their fathers occurs.

Watching Samuel not only become a person who can connect with people, but someone who was willing to look outside the box and see that not everything that is real is necessarily written down or visible, was so enjoyable. As a reader you wanted to see not only his HEA with his mate, but you wanted to see him find himself, see that the world is there to be lived in, not merely lorded over.

I really like Charlie David’s narration. He has strong vocabulary, and I love his voice. It has such a smooth quality that just sucks you into the story.

I can’t wait to continue to dig into this collection.

Whit by Cora RoseNew release and review!Whit by Cora Rose was my first book by her and I believe her first book. And I was really impressed. It's not easy to find a first book that I don't nit pick. But I really enjoyed it and she has been quite the prolific writer since.Caleb is the same story told from Whit's point of view. (Whit was Caleb's point of view)This is a good young adult (21ish) romance, opposites attract, gay for you, rich boy/poor boy...all the tropes. It was fun to read the story from Whit's POV. How he was really feeling about Caleb, about meeting family, about dealing with his own family, etc. And to hear how dirty his mind really was since he's so buttoned up (figuratively) to the world.I loved seeing Caleb's family just immediately accept him as part of the family. Jokes, hugs and all.If you enjoyed Whit, you'll enjoy Caleb. Same story, different perspectives.Do I need all of her books to have this companion piece? Nah. But I'm glad I revisited these guys.4 Pieces of Eye Candy ... See MoreSee Less

✨EXCERPT: CALEB by @coraroseauthor releasing April 24th! #PreOrderNowbooks2read.com/u/4En91A I shake my head, even though it is. I feel like my heart is being ripped from my body. The choice I have to make. Is it even a choice? “I…I overreacted. I’m…I’ll be fine,” I tell him, clutching at his hand and turning it to kiss that rough palm. Because I have to be fine with whatever I choose. And I don’t know if I can choose a future with him. Not after everything I’ve been through. My parents owe me for what they put me through. I’ve earned it with my blood and tears. Can I give it all up? For him? Caleb’s thumbs rub over my cheeks. “Okay.” He doesn’t sound convinced. Not that I expect him to. I’m a liar in the worst way. Selfish, thoughtless. He will never forgive me once this is over. My eyes water, and Caleb’s face crumples as he pulls me into his chest and holds me. I should never have let him be my roommate. I should have let him go about his life, never knowing me. It would have been simpler, better. But I was too greedy. Wanted him too much. And now look what I’ve done. I’m set to ruin him. I need to pull away before I do more damage. I need to end this. Soon, I tell myself. Just one more day. Let me have one more day.#mmromance #corarose The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less
