A Veiled & Hallowed Eve (Soulbound Book 7) by Hailey Turner: New Release Review

November 16, 2021 by Denise

Death is the last lover you will ever know.

SOA Special Agent Patrick Collins has lived a life full of lies, and it has finally caught up with him. There’s no denying his past any longer, not after giving up the truth to save himself from a murder charge. But truth alone can’t set Patrick free, and time is running out to stop the Dominion Sect from turning his father into a god.

Jonothon de Vere knows survival isn’t a guarantee, but he’s desperate to keep Patrick safe, even as hope slips through his fingers. With the future unknown, Jono will follow Patrick wherever he goes, even to Salem, where a family reunion reveals a bitter secret that was never going to stay buried.

With New York City under control of their god pack, Patrick and Jono must fall back on every alliance they’ve brokered to fill the front lines of a war coming directly to the city streets. The veil is always thinnest on Samhain, and what awaits them on the other side is the stuff of nightmares. For when it tears, all hell will break loose, and the gods will be summoned to face a reckoning the world isn’t ready for.

The stakes have never been higher, failure has never been so deadly, and the Fates have never been kind to heroes. Patrick knows that better than anyone—because everything has a price, every debt always comes due, and it’s finally time for Patrick to pay his.

You need to read this entire series, or listen to it. Either way, don’t miss a single book in this series. This is not a stand alone. While the author does reference and explain things as the book goes along, you really want to make sure you read or listen to the first six books in the series. But it is not in any way, shape or form, time wasted. This is a fantastic series, from beginning to end. Hailey Turner takes world building to a new level with this series, and with the conclusion to the series, it is no less amazing. If you want to visualize the setting your MC’s are in, this author is who you want to read.

This was seriously an epic conclusion to this series. I was on the edge of my seat for most of it, as it twisted and turned through the streets of NYC, and a bit of time spent in Salem, MA.

I’m not gonna lie…Patrick leaving…well that just broke my heart. But Jono, Wade (who was the sweetest in his devotion to Patrick) and their pack did not give up any hope, knowing he would be back. They continued on in their lives, knowing he would be back home.

Patrick finally pays his soul debt, in, of course, one of the most heart breaking ways, yet absolutely how it needed to happen. I honestly would not have been surprised if the author had not planned that particular portion of the story since the conception of the series.

I do not want to give any more away, but this book, this ending…perfect conclusion to what has been an incredible series.

Also, if you get a chance, I highly recommend the audiobooks of this series, narrated by Gary Furlong. So very well done. As a good narrator can do, he enhances what is already a fantastic storyline with the varying voices, inflections and character changes.

November 14, 2021 by Denise

Opposites attract as frosty business partners become fake boyfriends in this Christmas gay romance!

After an emergency forces Ashton Sellers from his apartment, all he wants for Christmas is new lipgloss, zero contact from his abusive family, and a place to stay for the holidays. Cue his business partner begrudgingly taking him in.

Walker’s a fuddy-duddy with no sense of fun, but he does have a safe, warm home with four adorable dogs and delicious food on the table.

If it turns out Walker’s also a secret softy with a tender side and a hot body beneath his endless parade of golf shirts? Great, good, cool. And if Walker wants Ashton to pretend to be his boyfriend for his sister’s Christmas-themed wedding? Awesome, amazing.

Could Walker be the safe haven Ashton missed out on as a child? Could they be falling in love for real?

But when Ashton uncovers a painful mistake in Walker’s past, it hits too close to home. As the jingle bells quiet and the snow settles, will Ashton be able to forgive Walker, or will their relationship be over before it ever truly begins?

“Walker, was this your idea?”

Walker realized that he’d let Ashton take control of the presentation, and he lifted his chin confidently. “It was. I thought of it last night, and I think we can pull it off. And even if we can’t, even if people suspect that it’s all for show and that I’m paying him to escort me, or even just pretending to be dating him like his post suggested, that’ll be fuel enough for gossip, right? Like why would I do that? People will have a lot to say either way. And none of it about you, Tom, Morgan, or the kids.”

“And Mom and Dad?”

“There should be nothing shameful in their son bringing a beautiful man to your wedding.”

Evelyn looked between him and Ashton and then down at their joined hands. Her mouth twitched up at the corner again, and she turned to Tom. “Let’s talk in private for a minute? In the hotel lobby? We’ll be right back.”

Walker thought Ashton would let go of his hand as soon as Evelyn and Tom left, but he didn’t. Instead he traced Walker’s knuckles with his thumb, saying, “I can’t believe they think I can’t do this. I mean, I could absolutely make anyone believe I’m in love with you. It wouldn’t even be hard.”

“But what about me?” Walker asked gruffly. “Maybe I’m not as great an actor.”

Ashton looked up at him, his green eyes shining in the candlelight. He searched Walker’s face and grinned. “Ah, no, just look at me like that! And everyone will believe we’re madly in love! That’s perfect, Walker. You’re a really good actor already, see?”

Walker almost gaped. He wasn’t acting right now? And he wasn’t in love? He was just…impressed by how much he’d missed about Ashton before. By focusing on all the ways Ashton was different from him, by feeling uncomfortable with Ashton’s dissimilarities instead of appreciating them, he’d almost missed out on a really cool person.

Ashton sighed happily, gazing up at him. “Man, the person you look at like that for real? They’re gonna be so lucky.” Then he released Walker’s hand and took up his drink.

Walker’s skin tingled where Ashton had been touching him, and he wanted to wrap their fingers together again. But he lifted his bourbon and sipped it instead. Weird how lines got so easily blurred when a person was lonely. He needed to keep that in mind.

Tom and Evelyn returned from the lobby, Evelyn with a grin spread across her face like Christmas-come-early, and Tom with a smirk directed at Walker that he didn’t quite know how to interpret.

“We’re in,” Evelyn said. “Right, Tom?”

Tom nodded, his eyes on Walker. “Yup. We’re good to go with this plan. Initiate Operation Fake Boyfriend.”

Ashton squirmed with excitement next to Walker. “Fantastic! Now we just need to decide on the details.”

Immediately, Ashton and Evelyn began to plot. Tom kept sneaking indecipherable looks at Walker but saying nothing. It wasn’t long before they all needed another round of drinks.

“Okay, so like how crazy can I go?” Ashton asked, leaning forward over the table toward Evelyn, hand to his chest. “I assure you I don’t ever want to take attention away from you as the bride—”

“No, please do!”

“Okay, I could wear this for example? To the wedding?” Ashton flipped his phone around and displayed a picture of himself in the most flamboyant suit Walker had ever seen. It was a sky-blue skinny tuxedo with orange and white koi fish printed all over it. Why did Ashton even own this atrocity? And why did Walker suspect that Ashton would actually look smoking hot in it?

“God, that’s perfect. Perfect,” Evelyn cooed. “Oh, Tom, just think of everyone’s faces. Your Uncle Dave will shit a brick.”

“Or maybe this one?” Ashton turned the phone around again, flipped through some of his photos, and then found what he was looking for. “Too much? Or just right?”

“Oh God, it’s great, but almost not enough.”

How could it not be enough? In the photo, Ashton wore a fitted, burgundy suit that was so tight through the legs and ass that it made Walker feel a little…well, a little aroused and tingly, and he wasn’t sure that was what he wanted to feel on his sister’s wedding day.

Nor did he think he wanted to feel that way about Ashton at all. Though it seemed to keep happening. Like the other night when he’d been unable to tear his eyes away from Ashton’s collarbones, or when he’d had to shift around as he’d massaged his feet to keep from getting hard.

“I have another more exciting option,” Ashton said. When he presented the next photo, Walker’s legs went numb and a cold sweat broke out in the small of his back. Fuck. That suit was some kind of high-fashion bondage gear combination. How had Ashton even afforded these pieces? They all looked like they were incredibly pricey. Plus, was Ashton into that? Bondage and all that went with it? Because Walker absolutely wasn’t.

Why did it matter? They were just friends! What was going on in his head?

Not gonna lie…when I saw how many pages this book was, I was a bit intimidated. Lately long books have taken me at least two weeks to read, and my expectation was that it would take me at least that or more for Mr. Jingle Bells. Nope! Three days, and it flew by. I couldn’t put this book down! I loved both these characters, the side characters, and especially the dogs. 🙂

Ashton was so unapologetically himself, and I loved that for him. He had a bad childhood, one that few people really understand the depths of, even when reading it. He worked hard to get where he was, even with little to show for it monetarily, because of his trust in the wrong person. He knew where his boundaries were, and didn’t allow others to cross into it, even if it hurt him. He was strong from the inside, and someone any of us would be proud to be friends with.

With Walker, he had his own boundaries but still managed to have a huge heart and would do almost anything for someone he cared about…or even someone he barely knew, when he took in Ashton.

There was so much going on in this book, it could have been difficult to keep everything straight, but it absolutely was not. Everything was weaved together seamlessly. Ashton’s moments of pain, one after another. Walker being there to pick up the pieces. Evelyn and Tom’s upcoming wedding. Even down to Walker’s grandfather, as a bit of a catalyst. It was so well written, that as the story wound through one portion then another, it flowed through each storyline, building upon itself.

There were a few pieces I didn’t understand. How did Ashton and Walker end up in business together if they really didn’t know each other at all, not something I could see doing. I also didn’t quite see how their idea of trolling people at Evelyn’s wedding would pay off in the end. It came together, but still wasn’t something I couldn’t quite grasp for myself. However, those were small issues, and did not take away from the story at all.

This book was not just about two men falling in love, but the redemption and changes they both needed in their lives. For themselves, and then for each other. And the sticky sweet ending will have you wondering why we can’t have Christmas books all year long. It was sigh worthy. (But also bring a few tissues to the reading of the book…you’ll need them in a few places, for sure.)

In the end, I think I loved this book even more than the previous two in this series, and that’s saying a lot, because I loved them as well. So well done, and you won’t regret a minute of sitting down, reading this, and ignoring all the other things you “should” be doing, for the thing you want to be doing. 🙂

Never Fade Away by EL Esch: Blog Tour, Exclusive Excerpt, New Release Review and Giveaway

November 9, 2021 by Denise

Until death does us part, but it’s knocking on our door…

I’d had enough. That’s how I found myself in a dingy alleyway with my revolver in my hand. I was sick and dying anyway, and there was nothing I could do about it. Nothing except maybe taking back some shred of control by going out on my own terms.

One deep breath. Two… Three… Four…

Surrounded by the darkness of my own mind, this was the only solution I could see, but before I could do something I’d regret, rock star Anno Goodkind crashed into my life and flipped it upside down.

It was supposed to be one casual hookup. No complications and definitely no feelings. No, the most logical thing to do would be to stuff my emotions down so nobody got hurt. Especially not him. But nobody told me that love didn’t give a damn about logic.

CONTENT WARNING: This story has a HEA but deals with heavy themes of illness, suicide, anxiety, and depression. Reader discretion is advised.

I opened my eyes and turned toward Anno. He’d retrieved a guitar from the SUV at some point and was now plucking the strings gently with his fingertips. It was the same one he’d been playing at the concert.

“Haven’t heard this one,” I said.

The multicolored rubber bracelets on Anno’s wrists shook as his hands moved expertly in and out of notes. He rocked his torso to the tune as he played, humming softly. The soft light of the moon traced his face as he moved, accenting his nose and jaw. Looking at him, I felt happy. He seemed so content, so in his element that he radiated a contagious aura of tranquility.

But all at once he stopped, and then he swore. The aura dissipated.

“None of it feels right lately.” He reached into the back pocket of his jeans and pulled out a lighter and a pack of cigarettes. He offered me one, but I held up my hand in refusal. After a long drag on a cigarette, he sighed deeply on a puff of smoke.

“It sounded good to me.”

“Ha, thanks.” Another long draw on the cigarette and then he tossed it to the ground and stomped out any lingering embers.

“It was a nice riff. Comfortable, soft… sort of haunting. I dunno, I liked it. Made me feel good.”

“You really think?” He hopped back up on the hood of the SUV and turned on his side toward me.

Why did he sound so uncertain? He was a popular artist. People loved his music. Yet I could hear the quiver in his voice when he asked me if I really believed what I’d said.

“I do.” I nodded. “And I haven’t felt comfortable in a long time. But maybe that’s the booze.” I started to laugh, and then I noticed Anno leaning toward me.

His lips were inches from mine. I could smell the beer we’d been drinking on his breath. He tilted his head and our noses brushed ever so slightly.

Shakily, I slipped my hand around the back of his head. His hair felt freshly cut and prickled along my palm as I gently pushed to close the gap between us.

If you’ve read my reviews you know I love angst. I want to FEEL the emotions. Good or bad. But also, I don’t want to read about fabricated angst. Those dumb fights that the couple has so they break up for five minutes and it’s called conflict just so they can get back together. No. I want real. I want gritty. I want to cry because I am so in their world that it feels like I know them. It’s been a while since I’ve gotten that. Until this book.

Vincent is sick and dying. Although we don’t find out exactly what he has and what is killing him for quite a while. When Anno finds him, Vincent is about to take matters into his own hands. Knowing he is dying anyway, why make it drawn out? Instead Anno shows up…and basically never leaves.

Anno has his own issues. And while this could absolutely lead to some serious codependence, it doesn’t. They call each other on their crap. Vincent doesn’t care that Anno is famous. Anno doesn’t care that Vincent lives in a tiny apartment. They learn about each other, what their demons are and they don’t try to fix each other. I was waiting for that. Waiting for Anno to try to throw money at the “problem”. Wanting to send Vincent to the best doctors, second, third and fourth opinions. But he doesn’t. He respects that Vincent is a grown man who can make his own decisions about his own life.

And they are grown men. Mid- late 30’s and early 40’s. THAT was refreshing.

I almost- almost- hated knowing that this would be a happily ever after. Because, how? I looked down at the percentage left and wondered how. How was this going to wrap up and not be rushed? But the author did it. The epilogue was just the perfect ending. Realistic and not “omg a miracle!”.

So yes, I ugly cried while reading. A lot. A lot a lot. Which just shows how invested I was in these men. Not only as a couple, but individually.

Silly things like Vincent and his bestie met in college and stayed besties. And I get it that whatever he was in college for he went into construction because he loved it. But his bff is a stylist. So…I don’t know what she was doing in college? Or what she did and then went to cosmetology school?

Yes, I am picky. That is well established. Sorry, not sorry.

I’m a huge gamer, a lover of books and art, and have a fascination for lizards and other small critters that borders on an obsession. Which is probably why I already own 3 and have to actively stop myself from getting more.

I began writing because I always loved the idea that words can create entire universes and characters from nothing but a blank page and an idea. Like one day you have an empty Word document and then in as little as a few minutes—boom! You just created a snarky art school graduate with purple hair whose blood may actually be 90% coffee.

I write Male/Male adult romance. My books usually focus on realistic life topics—stuff everyday people go through and struggle with. I like when we as readers can feel connected to the characters we’re reading about. When we can understand their feelings and then suddenly they become truly human.

Code Red by N.R. Walker, Narration Nick J. Russo: Audiobook Review

November 8, 2021 by Denise

Maddox Kershaw is the main vocalist of the world’s biggest boy band. He’s at the top of every music chart, every award show, every social media platform, and every sexiest-man-alive list. He’s the bad boy, the enigma, the man everyone on the planet wants a piece of.

He’s also burned out and exhausted, isolated and lonely. Not in a good headspace at the start of a tour.

Roscoe Hall is Maddox’s personal manager. His job is high-flying, high-demand, high-profile, and he loves it. Maddox has consumed his entire life for the past four years. Roscoe knows him. He sees the real Maddox no one else gets to see.

He’s also in love with him.

When the tour and stress become too much, when the world begins to close in, Roscoe becomes Maddox’s lifeline. But as Maddox knows already, and as Roscoe is about to learn, the brighter the spotlight, the darker the shadow.

I admit that I am an NR Walker junkie. I just love how prolific she is, always writing LGBT (MM) romance, but the tropes are always different. This one is probably classified as a rock star romance, but it’s a group of 5 guys who make up the band. And besides Maddox playing guitar, I think on stage they sing and dance, no instruments. I hesitate to call it a boy band, but…

I read the book when it came out and really enjoyed it. So of course I had to listen to the audio version. Kind of an epic task for Nick Russo as there are 5 members of the band, 3 hands on management people, a couple of big wigs from the record label and a couple of security people who are in the background but still have dialogue. And it was really well done.

As for the story, the 5 members of Atrus are about to embark on a world tour. For the 5 guys there are 3 hands on managers/handlers. Maddox has been pushed to the forefront as the face of the band and as such has his own manager Roscoe. The other four guys are split between the other two managers.

Throughout the tour Maddox has really bad anxiety issues and Roscoe becomes his rock. Maddox also flirts shamelessly until Roscoe caves. Not that Roscoe wasn’t into it- but it is strictly forbidden and part of his contract.

We follow them on their tour, different cities and countries. Going out sight seeing, fighting jet lag, bodies pushed to the max. Roscoe really does try to do the right thing but can’t deny Maddox.

The book shows a pretty good glimpse into what celebrities go through. From how hard they really work to how they are stalked in real life.

As for the narration. As I said, he did a really great job. The nuances between the voices were subtle, but there. I knew who was talking easily but none of it was over the top. I have no idea how narrators keep all the voices straight. Amazing.

Elliot, Song Of The Soulmate (Love, Austen Book 5) by Anyta Sunday: Blog Tour, Exclusive Excerpt, New Release Review and Giveaway

October 29, 2021 by Denise

When you have the love of your life, you hold on tight.
You don’t let go.

Debate champ extraordinaire Elliot Anneston is a master in persuasion. He wins at everything. Until he meets sexy Scottish transfer Wentworth McAllister. Suddenly he doesn’t know what’s up and what’s up. The world is a whirlwind of feeling, and when it comes to the debate of his life, to lose is inevitable. How can he not, when his argument is a lie?
I can’t love you. I don’t.

When you lose the love of your life, you don’t get a second chance.
Or do you?

~ ~ ~

“Elliot, Song Of The Soulmate” is a contemporary gay retelling of Jane Austen’s “Persuasion”.

Amazon – Kindle Unlimited

Their first official date was a midnight picnic at the beach. They chose a full moon and a sheltered bay, and they shared their hopes and dreams over crackers, grapes, cheese, and Elliot’s mum’s lemonade.

“What do you want to do when . . . well, when you’ve finished school?”

“Study psychology, and travel the world.”

Waves rushed to shore and breezes sprayed sand over them. Wentworth hooked his arms behind his head and stared at the stars, smirking. “You can do that living on a boat, you know.”

Elliot snickered, shaking his head. Wentworth, Wentworth, Wentworth. “Let’s make a rule.”

Wentworth rolled onto his side and propped himself on his elbow. “What kind of rule?”

“The kind we follow and don’t break.”

“What is the purpose of this rule?”

“To discourage distorted expectations.”

“Why do I have a feeling I won’t love this?”

Probably because he wouldn’t. “Rules are meant to be respected, not loved.”

Wentworth grumbled. “You’ll make an excellent Head Boy next year.”

“I might not get elected.”

He scoffed. “You’ve more than convinced the student body. Now what rule do you want me to follow, Head Boy?”

Elliot felt as light as the breezes around them. “I want us to enjoy each moment.”

“Done!”

“And, not talk of the future more than a week ahead.”

“But—”

“Promise me.”

“Two weeks ahead?”

“Wentworth.”

Wentworth pressed his lips together on a laugh, and nodded. He caressed a lock of hair off Elliot’s face. “Whatever makes you happy, bumblebee.”

These books keep getting better. This is the first of the series that I don’t know of or haven’t read the book it is loosely based on. But no matter. And even though this is book 5, it stands alone really well.

I feel like this is the first book in this series that was really ANGSTY. Meeting in school as teenagers, Elliot and Wentworth were practically inseparable. Wentworth made a declaration the night the met about their future. But they knew they were 17 and had a lot of life to live first. But they still wanted to do it together. Until life got in the way and Elliot broke Wentworth’s heart.

Fast forward 15 years. Wentworth followed his dreams and became a fairly famous singer/songwriter. And his most popular song was about their break up. But life brings them back together again. With a lot of hurt feelings, words unsaid and a love for each other still there but hiding under the pain.

Watching the navigate work together without being together, other people flirting with them, keeping an emotional distance from each other- ugh. It all just broke my heart. Because it just felt so real. They didn’t come back together after 15 years, throw out some “I’m sorrys” and jump into bed together.

There was a real maturity about both of them that they got from the 15 years of life they had apart and in the end, I felt that it made them that much stronger together.

Bad At Love by Aimee Nicole Walker: New Release Review

October 18, 2021 by Denise

Bad at making decisions or bad at love? Either way, Kendall Blakemore doesn’t trust his judgment. He falls too hard, too fast, and always for the wrong guy. Needing a major shakeup, Kendall moves into his own place for the first time and seizes a new career opportunity. But everything he thought he wanted turns out to be the last thing he needs. When loneliness threatens to derail Kendall’s good behavior, he decides to rent out his spare bedroom. What could go wrong? Try a tenant who’s temptation incarnate.

Bad at commitment or born to roam? Either way, US Deputy Marshal Kurt Dandridge feels trapped. Maybe staying in one place for too long is the source of his unhappiness, or maybe it’s because he’s engaged to the wrong person. Finding his fiancé in bed with another man takes care of one problem but creates another. Ridge needs a place to live. He’d leave Savannah altogether if not for his vow to apprehend an elusive fugitive. Renting a room from Kendall Blakemore seems like the perfect solution until Ridge finds himself falling for the alluring man. Would one kiss derail his course? And could he stop at just one?

Hurts so good. Chemistry burns between them—hot, consuming, and impossible to ignore. And why should they? Kendall and Ridge are consenting adults who know the score. Being bad has never felt so good, but it’s a slippery slope to navigate. One misstep could have disastrous consequences for both men.

Bad at Love is a standalone novel within the Sinister in Savannah universe where both characters first appeared. It is not necessary to read that series first. Bad at Love is a romantic suspense that’s heavier on the romance than the suspense.

Amazon – Kindle Unlimited

So it might’ve taken me a minute to remember who Kendall was. Ok, and Ridge. But that is on me and my really bad memory. But it all came back. Two minor characters in a previous series get center stage and their happily ever after.

Kendall and Ridge meet quite by accident, which is kind of funny because Ridge’s friends have been wanting to set them up forever. Guess they were right.

They meet up again, also by accident. They immediately had chemistry and played off of each other really well. No one was playing coy. Both of these men know what they want. Which is pretty much just sex because they are both convinced they are bad at love. But at the same time they didn’t put up the proverbial walls to keep people out.

Turns out they have 2 things working against them. One I won’t mention because spoiler, but the other is that Ridge plans on moving back to Montana where his family is. Of course he has been saying that for five years.

Kendall is also a bit in flux with his life. Not loving being a paralegal. Then he is promoted to manager at the club and he is able to give up the office job. But he still doesn’t feel like it is a fit for him.

Of course there is drama. Ridge wants to catch the fugitive that has eluded him for years. Kendall’s mother wants to reconcile after basically abandoning him when his step father threw him out. Then another giant case happens that Ridge is in on. Lots of little things happen, several big things happen, and even though I am really thrilled at how Kendall and Ridge find their happily ever after together, I feel like there are loose ends. Yes, of course we can assume that they are tied up at a later date as they don’t really have anything to do with Ridge and Kendall personally, but I like closure.

I am willing to completely overlook those loose ends if there ends up being a book 2.

Overall it was a really good story, good plot points, some really hot scenes, self discovery and some romance. These men were really equals in their partnership and I loved that.

Fans of Aimee Nicole Walker will love it.

✨TEASER: HEARTSMASHED by @brookeblaine1 releasing June 11th! #PreOrderNow Amazon U.S. amzn.to/4sljgbq Amazon Worldwide mybook.to/Heartsmashed Why you will love this book…🔥Fake Boyfriend/Fake Dating🔥Mistaken Identity 🔥Opposites Attract 🔥Jealous Ex 🔥Forced Proximity 🔥Emotional Healing 🔥Fake Escort Mix-Up 🔥Heartbroken Radio Host 🔥Late Night Love Advice Gone Wrong 🔥“I Didn’t Mean To Fall” 🔥MM RomanceHe hired a fake boyfriend for the weekend. The man who showed up wasn’t the escort.Sawyer Montgomery spends his nights broadcasting heartbreak on his prime-time radio show—spinning sad songs, giving terrible love advice, and pretending he’s totally over the ex who shattered his heart.(Spoiler: he’s not.)But when he needs a fake boyfriend to survive a weeklong family celebration with that very ex, hiring an escort seems like the perfect solution.Simple. Efficient. No emotions required. The only problem? The man he mistakes for the escort… isn’t one.Beckett Calder walks into the hotel lounge expecting to meet his blind date. Instead, he finds Sawyer—a romantic disaster who clearly thinks Beckett is the escort he hired.Beckett should correct the misunderstanding. He should walk away.(Spoiler: he doesn’t.)Because there’s something about Sawyer—maybe it’s the sarcasm, the bruised heart, or the way he looks like he could really use someone on his side—that makes Beckett say yes.Now he’s pretending to be Sawyer’s devoted boyfriend. For an entire week.Which would be manageable…if the chemistry between them didn’t feel so dangerously real.Because the longer they pretend, the harder it becomes to remember it’s all an act.And when the week ends, Beckett might be the one mistake Sawyer never wants to stop making.✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up here to promote this awesome release: bit.ly/heartsmashedsignup#coverreveal #brookeblaine #mmromance The Author Agency ... My review of:Betrothed in Fury by Devon McCormackListen, I know there are a lot of fans of this author. I quite like the books he coauthors with Riley Hart. But the ones he writes by himself are super hit or miss for me. And this one was a pretty big miss.First, almost no background. Two mafia families, one giving protection to the other after the death of the patriarch. BUT there are other mafia families. So, like, how many mafia families are there in this town/city?Forced marriage. Ok, we've seen that trope. But Killian (the mafia family that protects) calls Logan (protectee) wife, wifey or bride CONSTANTLY. And he uses, uhm...slang words for female body parts for a part of Logan's body. It was just soo degrading. The beginning of the book was everything I hated about reading traditional MF romances. Just awful. There seems to be a big back story with Killian but we only get bits and pieces. Just not enough. Also a big backstory with Logan that offers up a surprise that was, honestly, the only redeeming quality of the book. Had it been done earlier in the book though, it could have added a lot to the plot instead of them just having sex. Constantly. There's also very little "mafia stuff" in the plot except for one big scene. I got through it, read the whole thing. Even the ending made me roll my eyes.2 Pieces of eye candy ... ✨Let’s celebrate! It’s release day for BETROTHED IN FURY by @devonmccormack! Grab it in KU!#OneClickHeremybook.to/BetrothedinFuryWhy you need to #ONECLICK this book…🔥MM Dark Mafia Romance🔥Grumpy/Psycho-Sunshine🔥Bi-awakening🔥Arranged Marriage🔥Mob-Bosses-to-Lovers🔥Morally Gray Men🔥Touch-Him-and-Die (like, tied up in a sack, thrown into a lake, and left for dead)🔥Frighteningly Possessive MC🔥"Oh, what did that contract say?"🔥Anything-for-the-Family Vibes🔥Torture-as-Foreplay (just mob bosses doing what they love)🔥"Did I say you could have mashed potatoes?"(iykyk)LOGANCharming. Sexy as sin. Out of his damn mind. That sums up Killian Lorde, one of the most powerful crime bosses in Fury's underworld.Since his father passed, he's stepped into his role as head of the family business.A role which I, the golden boy of the Wilde clan, more than understand. Forced by birth into a life of corruption and moral bankruptcy, I exist for one purpose: to protect my family at all costs.Only this time, the price is my freedom.Unbeknownst to me, to maintain my family's alliance with the Lordes, I've been betrothed to Killian.I've always known him to be a bastard, but this arrangement brings out the worst in him. He's a monster. Pure, unfettered evil.He doesn't just want to marry me. He wants to control and possess me, and when his curiosity becomes obsession, we struggle for power as he demands the one thing I can't give him.My complete and total surrender.CW: During the book's preorder period, the complete CW can be viewed via the author's website.#newbookalert #mafiaromance #devonmccormack #mmromance The Author Agency ...
