Tide To You (Destination Daddies Season Two) by JJ Harper: Blog Tour, Exclusive Excerpt, New Release Review and Giveaway

August 16, 2022 by Denise

.                                  .

When a much-needed holiday turns into so much more than sun and sand.

Hudson

Why have I even entered that competition? I never win anything. Ever.

Colour me surprised I won a weeklong holiday in a resort for Daddies and boys. And at the right time too.

A break from work.

A break from bad choices.

A break from being seen only as a sugar Daddy.

The Hôtel Plaisir looks the perfect place to unwind, relax, and have some fun. Even more perfect is the beautiful young man waiting for me. He’s everything I’ve ever looked for. He’s also the host for the week, which makes him out of bounds.

Doesn’t it?

Yannick

The chance to organise my own event and prove to my father I can be trusted to run our family hotel landed in my hands thanks to Cuffd and their competition. The winner gets an all-inclusive week at our resort.

I didn’t expect him to be my dream Daddy.

I didn’t expect to hurt so much when he played with the other boys.

I didn’t expect to give myself to a man who will leave.

But it is too good to pass up. Even if it breaks my father’s trust.

Tide to You is part of the Destination Daddies Season Two multi-author series. It features an older, jaded Daddy and a boy who knows he has more to lose than his heart. Each book can be read as a standalone, but there are so many destinations and Daddies to discover, why not grab them all?

Title: Tide To You
Authors: JJ Harper
Length: 56K
Series: In the Destination Daddies, each standalone
Genre: Contemporary, Kink.
Tropes: Holiday romance, Daddy/boy. Includes some mild BDSM.

I can’t tear my eyes away from the erotic and compelling sight. Hudson looks up, his lips still on Roddie, but his eyes blaze and fix on me. I turn and flee the room, rush through the gardens, past the pools, and onto the beach.

I come to a halt, drawing long breaths into my lungs, then drop onto the still warm sand. I sit with my knees bent, my forearms resting on them, and stare out at the ocean. I love it here. Even as a child, I would sneak out to listen to the soft swell of the water as it broke on the shore. It calms me, even though I know the current is treacherous, that under the smooth surface, the undertow could take you away before you’re even aware. I lie back and gaze up at the stars. The sky seems to be so full of them tonight, each shining as dazzlingly as it can. The brilliant, almost full moon casts a silver glow over all it touches.

My anxiety slips away. I’m in no hurry to go. I have nothing I need to be doing. The twinkling stars and the gentle laps of the water on the sand soothe me. My mind empties.

A cool wind picks up, and goosebumps break out over my skin. Time to go inside. I’ve got a busy day tomorrow.

After brushing as much sand as I can from my clothes, I stroll back to the hotel. On the terrace, a solitary figure walks towards the rooms. The moonlight lights up his silver hair. Hudson.

He’s alone. Where is Roddie? I thought they would be spending the night together, for sure. My heart lifts a little, knowing he isn’t wrapping his strong arms around another body tonight. I go through the private door, a small smile on my lips.

After my shower, as I lie in my bed, the smile is still there. Sleep comes quickly.

This book is part of a multi-author series, Destination Daddies, Season Two, where the winners of a contest on the Cuffd app receive a weeklong vacation in resorts around the world. I love the premise behind this, and did read a few of the books from Season One. Men meeting other men with the same wants and needs, Daddy/boy.

This one is based around a business owner and architect from the UK, choosing his holiday in Southern France, where he meets and falls in love with the part owner of a luxury hotel that caters to many special weekends, one of them being a Daddy/boy weekend.

One of the best things about this is that it isn’t just about what Hudson and Yannick are looking for, but also the friendships they develop with the other Daddies and boys through the week. As in, I am definitely curious to see if any of those characters make another appearance in the future. 🙂

This book had insta-love, with both men realizing what they wanted within two days of Hudson arriving at the hotel, and they never really questioned it. There was no back and forth, does he love me or not. They knew almost immediately that they had found their other person, and it was left to them to figure out how to make it work with the two of them having successful businesses in two entirely different countries.

Along the way, we learn a little bit about the actual fathers that Yannick had, and how they both lived their lives somewhat neglecting Yannick. I was slightly confused during the early parts of the book, as it seemed that the father (Thomas) Yannick lived with was stern, but still loved him. Later it turns out that the absent father is the one Yannick is able to turn to when he’s struggling with Thomas about running the hotel. There was also one other piece that I didn’t quite understand why it wasn’t presented a bit earlier in the book, as I felt it was key to understanding why Yannick felt so passionate about the hotel.

Yannick and Hudson, despite their 20+ year age difference, had a lot in common, and seemed to fit right from the beginning. Although days one and two were…a bit difficult for Yannick to see, they did find their way into each other’s arms, dealt with the absent father, and his unpleasant husband, and decided how to move forward with their HEA.

A good beach read, especially with the beach being so prominent in the story. 🙂 Sit back and enjoy the silver fox, and his sweet boy.

The Barkeep and the Bookseller (Campo Royale #3) by V.L. Locey: RB, New Release Review *2 and Giveaway

August 7, 2022 by Denise

Can two men move past their shattered dreams and create a new future together?

Corduroy Lopez is a hard-working man. He has to be. There really is no alternative. He’s a single father with a beautiful special needs daughter to support. His mother and grandmother help when they can but he’s a proud Pan man who is determined to make it on his own. When his daughter is accepted into a prestigious developmental education preschool Cord needs cash and he needs it yesterday. When the cute owner of the new bookstore mentions wanting to start a drag story hour Cord leaps at the chance. He’s done drag before. Once. Performing on stage at the Campo hadn’t really been his thing but donning a wig and dress to sing children’s songs while strumming a ukulele should be a much more enjoyable experience. Also, the bookshop owner is adorable, newly single, and spending a great deal of time sitting at Cord’s bar sipping virgin piña coladas after the bookstore closes.

Jagger Collins never meant to end up here. He’d been a happily married man with a swanky job in a Philadelphia bank just two years ago. Then the bottom fell out of his life. His marriage combusted, his job quickly followed, and he found himself with only his dog Hamish, his brother, and half the cash from the home he thought he would be starting a family in. Taking the advice of his elder sibling to heart he left the big city and bought a small brick building in downtown Wilmington. Trading in ties for tomes, Jagger is now embracing the simpler things in life. Reading, biking, knitting, and admiring the lithe bartender at the Campo Royale. Cord is ticking all the right boxes in a big way but Jagger’s not sure if he’s ready to put his heart on the line again.

The Barkeep and the Bookseller is a single father guy next door gay romance that features a hard-working dad, a learning-to-love again bookdealer, a precocious preschooler, high heels, loving family, flashy floral fashions, and a ukulele rich happy-ever-after.

Okay, first, I have to start off by saying that I haven’t read the others in this series and I’m coming in completely blind… but I saw a single dad and I’m a sucker for those, so I had to give this one a chance!

So, first, we meet Cord, his mother who is also his neighbor and babysitter and cuter than cute toddler, Paloma. Cord is a single dad, with a lot of help from his family, but he’s working every single day of his life trying to support his darlin girl because, well… we all know how expensive life is, especially now days, but Paloma also has a form of down syndrome that the state will only half provide for, so he’s working himself to death to keep her in a special school that is better equipped for her needs.
He’s a good dad, you can see that right off and I’m so glad he has his family right next door.
Also, he’s the barkeep in this scenario 😛

Next we meet Jagger in his bookstore, along with his besties, Wattley (his brother) and Nate, (a billionaire) who are hilarious together and Jagger’s people. Oh, and his little pupper Hamish as well. He’s the bookseller and a handsome and sweet, semi-damaged one at that. So, you know I’m gonna love him right away! I did.

I hope these other boys have their own stories because I want to read all of them now! Nate, might be the one I’m most looking forward to, so fingers crossed for me on that one!

So, okay…their meeting is cute and their dynamic as the complete opposite of what I kept expecting and I really enjoyed them getting to know each other and then spending time together when Cord works so much and has a daughter to take care of full time … it wasn’t always easy, but I loved Paloma’s relationship with Jagger and the way that developed and just the whole.
It was so very very cute.

I’m honestly about to go check out the others in this series because I must know more about all of these people. I enjoyed all of them, they were all meddlesome and pushy and overbearing, but in all the best ways that your bestie-made family can be. It’s their job, right?

I loved how supportive everyone was even though there are a few references to past trauma, I just found myself wanting to hug both of these guys, the cute girl and wiley puppy too. It was a super cute story, would definitely recommend! Off to see who’s next!

4 Pieces of Eye Candy

First off, this is book 3. I haven’t read book 1 or 2 and I was completely fine. ALSO the cover is exactly as Jagger is described and I love that.

Jagger has some serious damage. And while there are glimpses and one story told of what he went through with his ex, a lot is left unsaid. But it’s made clear that he was in a very abusive relationship and it has had lasting effects on him.

Cord is a pretty well adjusted guy considering his dad died, the mother of his child took off, he is raising a special needs child and he gave up his career dreams. He is the first to say that giving up that dream was completely worth it if it meant keeping his daughter. Which he did.

This is a very slow burn romance. But I really loved that it was. There was flirting and romance. Innuendos and smoldering looks across a bar. I feel like they got to know each other and people and friends first. Which also gave Jagger a look into what Cord’s life was really like. Living with his mother and grandmother and daughter.

And his mother and grandmother are really great strong women. I love seeing strong women like them represented.

Back to our couple. I love how in tune to Jagger Cord was. I think a lot of that has to do with his daughter and how he needs to be in tune with her needs. But he was never condescending. He was just chill.

I adored Jagger’s best friend Nate and seeing that his book is next made me happy.

If you don’t fall a little bit in love with Paloma, Cord’s daughter, there might be something wrong with you. I kid, I kid.

There was a happily for now vibe but I kind of wish it went further into their relationship to see how things progressed. But maybe we will get some hints in future books. That is why 3 1/2 rather than 4. I needed more at the end than I got. Too many “but what about…” questions.

I didn’t get a chance to read the first book in this series, Breakaway, about Ducky’s brother (the non a-hole one apparently), because well that period of time reading was just in RL for me. However, it does seem like one I might be interested in going back to. But I liked the idea that Ducky and Chad had been gaming friends, and as it turned out, they were best friends, but had never actually met in person.

There wasn’t a lot of angst between the characters, once they finally met each other. Although it took a really long time for them to realize they wanted each other (around 70%?) Each main character had personal issues to deal with, but in the case of Ducky, I feel like perhaps I missed a piece from book 1. I didn’t really understand where his motivation for giving his money away came from. Meanwhile, Chad had, as he put it, daddy issues. Which this was actually fascinating! How often have you ever read the romance of someone, with kids and the HEA. Then read one of the children’s romance and he has daddy issues. Don’t you always think that they must be perfect parents? Good to have the reality of, yes, parents F up, and kids may take those issues upon themselves.

Once the two characters went to Hawaii, I felt like it was a bit redundant, until they got together, but then it was all the feelings pouring out of Chad, and Ducky “same”. (Which made me laugh, btw…think Han Solo “I know”). Ducky, though, noticing how Chad could calm him when he was anxious, similar to his brother Dallas was sweet.

This book wasn’t as deep into the characters as most KA books, but at 60K words, that’s to be expected. However, I did feel like there was a missing element in this book. I would have loved to see just a bit more interaction between the MC’s prior to meeting up, or getting together. It made it hard to believe the chemistry was as strong as it was. Sex scenes though…SMOKING!

This is a good beach read…which is good since they are in Hawaii for half of it. 3.5 pieces of eye candy.

Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It’s always a surprise to see what’s coming next!

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!

Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.

I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.

That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

The Shepherd (The Game Series Book 6) by Cara Dee: RB, Excerpt and New Release Review

June 15, 2022 by Denise

The Game Series Book 6 Standalone High-Protocol M/s Family MMM

Get cozy and strap in for the family side of a kinkster’s life puzzle, where the kids have homework before the grown-ups can sneak in some playtime, where three men share a dream they barely dare believe in, and where you bring out the toy bag when the little ones take a nap.

I was fresh out of boot camp and somewhere in the desert when I started picturing what my life after the Marines would look like. I’d always wanted a big family and a place out in the sticks.

At forty-five, I could only scratch my head and wonder what the hell had happened. I knew I should be grateful. I had my farmhouse. Rescue dogs and chickens too. I had a rowdy bunch nieces and nephews. I had amazing friends. I’d started a kink community with some of them. But it killed me to come home to an empty house at the end of the day. It hurt that nobody seemed to be interested in anything beyond pain sessions and casual playtime. Even my best friend Sloan pulled away from me. He was struggling to make ends meet with four kids, and I had a big house. They should move in with me, dammit.

I guess it made perfect sense that after so many years of wondering, waiting, and grumbling, a single week changed it all. My “the one who got away” showed up at a kink event, and Sloan shared a drunken confession that screwed with my head.

It was time to improvise, adapt, and…start believin’ in pipe dreams.

The Game Series is a BDSM series where romance meets the reality of kink. Sometimes we fall for someone we don’t match with, sometimes vanilla business gets in the way of kinky pleasure, and sometimes we have to compromise and push ourselves to overcome trauma and insecurities. No matter what, one thing is certain. This is not a perfect world—and maybe that’s why the happily ever after feels so good.

Kingsley and Tate saw me before I pulled over to the curb, and Sloan bent over to hurl again. Then Tate said something to Sloan that made my buddy flip him off, so that had to be good. I was glad they were on friendly terms on the first night they’d ever met.

I got out of my truck as soon as I’d killed the engine, and I couldn’t stick to one of the many fucked-up emotions that simmered below the surface. Relief, wariness, a shit-ton of annoyance… Exhaustion won out. I was fucking tired.

“Hey, gorgeous.” Tate grinned at me.

That sparked some humor at least, and I smirked a little on my way to Sloan. “Hey, kid. Sorry for sending y’all on a midnight adventure.”

“Don’t be,” he replied quickly. “I’m highly invested now.”

I snorted, not surprised. He and Ivy were the gossip slingers in our community—and I meant that in a fairly affectionate way. Aside from being too nosy for their own good, they meant well and wanted what was best for their friends. They didn’t spread bullshit, just theories about people’s love lives.

Approaching Sloan, I saw he was clutching a Coke can in one hand, and he had a half-empty bottle of water next to his feet.

The beanie on the sidewalk looked like his too.

He groaned and retched once more.

I sighed and placed a hand on his back. “You realize I’m done listenin’ to you, right?”

He coughed and croaked. “What’re you talking about?”

Wasn’t it fucking obvious?

“I’m talking about you pushing people away when they wanna help you.” I could hear the impatience seeping through. I had to cool it. “I ain’t doin’ it anymore, Sloan. You’re coming home with me, and tomorrow we’re picking up the kids.”

He straightened up again, and he flicked me a drunk, guarded look before he chugged from his Coke.

I noticed he’d put some piercings back in. A handful in his ears, the barbell between his eyebrows.

He made a cute, rugged, hot drunk. Bloodshot eyes included.

He wiped his mouth and peered down at the ground. He was wearing his supposed lucky All Stars. They were green and had passed their expiration date by a few years. But it had to be pure luck he hadn’t thrown up on them.

“I can’t stay with you, Shep,” he muttered hoarsely.

Nope, we weren’t doing this.

“I beg to differ.” I extended an arm and pointed to the truck. “Let’s get you outta hea’.”

“No,” he snapped. He nearly stumbled over the water bottle as he took a few steps away from me. “I’m goin’ home. I can walk.”

That was funny. “You’re gonna walk to Ashton Heights?”

It would take a sober person at least twenty, thirty minutes. Sloan wouldn’t make it past this street before he passed out in the gutter.

He made a face and sought out the nearest street sign. “Where are we?”

“Crystal City,” Tate answered.

“Oh. Right.” Sloan looked like he was gonna be sick again.

“I’m guessing you’ve been at Carol’s,” I said. Once in a blue moon, they had dinner together with the children, and it usually ended in a fight.

“Whatever,” he mumbled, clearly not wanting to talk about it. “Just take me home.” He pressed a hand to his stomach, his face contorted in discomfort, and he picked up his beanie and walked unsteadily toward the truck. “Not goin’ to your fuckin’ whore ranch…”

Oh-ho. My eyebrows went way up there. I invited my new partner to stay with me, and now I was running a whore ranch. Damn.

With a heavy sigh, I turned to Kingsley and Tate. “You’ve done more than enough—you can head on home. I’m sorry I woke you up.” Really, I was.

“No problem at all, buddy,” Kingsley assured.

“I’m not going anywhere,” Tate stated bluntly. “We’re staying until—”

“And you know what?” Sloan interrupted forcefully and turned back around to stagger toward me. “I’m sick of you not seein’ me.” What the fuck? “You bitch about bein’ lonely, but what am I? Shit under your shoe? A seat filler until you bring home the next bottom? Hell, I could be a bottom for you.”

No, really, what in the fresh fuck.

He didn’t just say that.

I frowned. My brain slowed down when I needed it to do the goddamn opposite—but he did not fucking say that.

“What did you just say?” I managed to get out.

This installment in The Games series gives us something we don’t always see a lot of stories about. Total Power Exchange (TPE) and/or domestic servitude. Previous books dealt with other kinks with the main kink being some sort of D/s situation. Which plays out different. Master/slave, Daddy, little, Dom/sub. Etc.

Greer is a founding member at McLean House. A kind community of some 150 or so members. And while he is well known in the community as a Dom who is always there for a demo, or a private session, he hasn’t had a relationship in far too long. He had all but given up on his dreams of a family because he thought being 45 was too old to start.

We start with a flashback of Greer meeting Archie. It was fun and sweet but then ended and we go to present day. And while we do revisit their meeting and what happened, I think it would have packed more of a punch to see it played out in real time. Then we would really know WHY Greer had cut himself off from maybe having a relationship.

Greer is also in love with his best friend. But either doesn’t know it or won’t admit it. But everyone else knows. The biggest issue there is that they are both Doms. Ok, and he doesn’t want to mess up the best friend thing.

In a pretty convoluted way, Archie and Greer meet up again, make amends and almost immediately begin a trial run of a M/s TPE situation. It seemed very one sided. Which Greer actually addresses. But Archie seemed to just jump right in. Yes, he did it part time on weekends with a couple for a bit. But he literally doesn’t do anything wrong. There’s no correction, no guidance.

Greer also wants to push Archie’s limits but hasn’t yet. Book 2 is coming.

And then we also get Sloan! I’ll just let you read about what happened there. But suffice it to say 2 went to 3 and are going to become 4. Should be interesting.

I liked the story and all of the characters. I am wondering if what happened at the end of the book at McLean will be a plot point and if so how. Overall I wanted more romance, more of the TPE dynamic playing out, just…more. But again, I think I will get this in book 2.

I’m often awkwardly silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.

There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly.

Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve.

I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I’m a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, cooking, baking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and family, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

One artist. One attorney. Two single dads.

Meeting at a bachelor auction for charity had trouble written all over it as far as I was concerned, especially when the guy that won the bid for me seemed to be after only one thing…a good time between the sheets.

Refusing Fletcher’s advances was easy the first time round. After all, we weren’t meant to see each other again.
Except I’ve just moved to Stillwater where Fletcher lives.

If I could get under Harrison’s skin as much as he’s already under mine, we’d have the most explosive sex known to humankind.

That was one of the many Harrison-related thoughts running through my head most of the parent meeting, which Harrison didn’t show for, and it’s been the same over the last two days.

I can’t blame him for leaving. I’m annoyed, but I get it.

When I pulled him into the supply closet, it wasn’t with the intention of kissing him. The way he spoke to Karina was…I don’t even know. I’m sure no one has spoken to her like that ever. Not even her parents, who come from a modest background and tried, even if they failed, to raise her to be a good person.

I guess she was always a law unto herself. Determined to be just like the people she admired, which is basically anyone with money, regardless of who they really are.

So, no, I hadn’t planned on kissing Harrison. At most, I just wanted to hug him and make sure we were on the same page before walking into the meeting.

Of course, as soon as we walked into the dark closet, all my intentions went up in smoke. I didn’t pick the closet on purpose. I thought we were walking into a classroom or office.

So now I can’t stop thinking about Harrison. His lips, his hard body, his long cock straining against his slacks…

Fuck.

I need to apologize.

If the few interactions I’ve had with him have taught me anything, it’s that he’s wound tight. He likes to be in control of a situation, and as much as I would give anything to see him unravel, I don’t want it to be at the detriment of our tenuous relationship.

God, the way he let me take charge of the kiss. That moment he lost the battle against his own conscience and flipped us, pressing me so hard against the door. When my hair tie snapped, I thought I was going to come right there.

Christ. Get yourself under control, Fletch.

As I turn onto the last street to get to Bittersweet, I feel hot, and not just because of the lack of breeze. Walking to George’s school rather than driving was a good idea, in principle. It’s giving me a chance to put my thoughts in order because it’s only a matter of time before I see Harrison again, and my brain needs to be in sync with my mouth.

I’m not sure it’s working though. The more I think about Harrison, the more I think about all the things I shouldn’t be thinking.

Having not read anything by this author, wasn’t really sure what to expect, but figured starting with the first book in a series was a safe bet. There were quite a few side characters that I am guessing are from a different series, since most were in a relationship, but it didn’t really make me feel lost in the story, as it really was quite focused on the two MC’s and dealing with the new world they now lived in, Stillwater…somewhere in New England, not far Boston.

I liked the varied personalities of the MC’s, although, as the reader gets to know Harrison, his personality seems to morph a bit into what is likely his “real” personality, but not one we had seen previously. I actually liked this side of him. As he became more comfortable with the bisexual side of himself, he allowed himself to be more assertive, more open.

Meanwhile, Fletcher was 100% himself from Day 1. Which honestly is my biggest issue with the book. Consent was not given on multiple occasions by Harrison, he said emphatic no’s several times, and not only did Fletcher not accept them, he kissed (and more) Harrison anyway. More than once. And while Harrison could easily stand up for himself, and did. Fletcher was much more aggressive about it than I felt he should have been. One time I can see as that hot “see, you really want me” kiss, but Harrison said no many times, and Fletcher still did it, and was convinced Harrison wanted him.

Above all, though, both men were great fathers, who put their children above all else…I mean how adorable is it that Harrison could French braid his daughter’s hair, and then even Fletcher’s? They spent time helping the school and the community, as they became closer, and both men were close to Harrison’s ex-wife (I do love a story where a previous spouse can be on great terms with their co-parent. This was a fantastic example.)

Overall, I liked the story, and am seriously invested in book 2, wanting to know how Ellis and the sweet baby toting store clerk hit it off. I want to know his story, and see how it unfolds.

Marriage is Murder (Sawyer and Royce: Matrimony and Mayhem Book 2) by Aimee Nicole Walker: Blog Tour, Exclusive Excerpt, New Release Review and Giveaway

May 5, 2022 by Denise

Spring is in full bloom, love is in the air, and Cupid has taken deadly aim in Savannah.

Newly engaged, Royce Locke and Sawyer Key are ready to set the date and charge full-steam ahead into their happily ever after, but homicides and unresolved conflicts keep getting in their way. Neither detective has met a case they couldn’t solve, but their latest investigations will push their limits and challenge their faith when the line between friend and foe becomes blurred. And if that weren’t enough, a random encounter with a stranger will trigger a series of events that could either make or break the couple.

Love—often a thriller, sometimes a killer, but always worth the battle.

Marriage is Murder is book two in the Matrimony and Mayhem trilogy, the second story arc for Royce Locke and Sawyer Key.

** New readers should start with the Zero Hour trilogy before reading Matrimony and Mayhem. ** Marriage is Murder is a continuation of Royce and Sawyer’s happily ever after as they move into the next phase of their lives—professionally and personally. Though some storylines span the trilogy, this book does not end in a cliffhanger. Heat, humor, heart, and homicide abound. You have been warned. 18+

Book 1: The Magnolia Murders (Sawyer and Royce: Matrimony and Mayhem Book 1)

Book 3: Killer Honeymoon (Sawyer and Royce: Matrimony and Mayhem Book 3) (out 7/1)

When Royce had pulled up to The Pirate’s House restaurant, he figured he’d seen it all and that nothing could shock him at that point in his career. He’d gone through the usual steps of putting on his PPE, signing in at the scene, and chatting with the responding officers, Jennifer Wang and Sierra Knight, who happened to be two of his favorites. Something in their expressions had tipped Royce off that this crime scene was like no other he’d ever seen. His brows edged toward his hairline as they described arriving on location.

“Shot through the heart with an arrow?” Royce had asked when they’d finished.

Wang nodded. “He landed on the wedding cake.”

“Smashed it to bits,” Knight added. “Vanilla cake with strawberry filling.”

Tara arrived before Royce could say anything further. She greeted the patrol officers and asked them to bring her up to speed. Royce noticed what looked like the top of a hickey peeking out from the collar of her shirt. He knew Tara and Candy had gone out a few times since he’d reintroduced them two months ago, but neither had mentioned the dates to him, and he didn’t push. He really, really wanted to, though. As if sensing Royce’s attention on her, Tara rolled her shoulders and adjusted her shirt before meeting his gaze with a quirked brow.

“Shot through the heart with an arrow?” she asked Royce.

“I had the same reaction. Does that make Cupid our prime suspect?”

“Or someone living out Bon Jovi lyrics,” Tara replied.

More adventures for Locke and Key.

Both are settling into their new normal. Sawyer investigating cold cases and Royce working on current homicides with his new partner until his new program for teens is ready. The last book solved a cold case (and a current murder) so they worked in tandem. This time they are working independent cases. Sawyer is mostly closing a couple of cold cases without a ton of fanfare. But Royce has a murder to solve that has some interesting twists and turns to it.

And throughout it all Sawyer’s mother is planning their wedding. Spoiler alert: we get a wedding date!

The book was a fun read, the story uncomplicated with a lot of different loose ends being tied up. And while solving the murder turned out to be pretty interesting, it wasn’t a huge page turner. Like I said, fun. But not really gripping.

I think the next book might be the last and even though I really want them to get their wedding, family and happily ever after, I would love to sink my teeth into a juicy mystery.

Must read for fans of the series.

Whit by Cora RoseNew release and review!Whit by Cora Rose was my first book by her and I believe her first book. And I was really impressed. It's not easy to find a first book that I don't nit pick. But I really enjoyed it and she has been quite the prolific writer since.Caleb is the same story told from Whit's point of view. (Whit was Caleb's point of view)This is a good young adult (21ish) romance, opposites attract, gay for you, rich boy/poor boy...all the tropes. It was fun to read the story from Whit's POV. How he was really feeling about Caleb, about meeting family, about dealing with his own family, etc. And to hear how dirty his mind really was since he's so buttoned up (figuratively) to the world.I loved seeing Caleb's family just immediately accept him as part of the family. Jokes, hugs and all.If you enjoyed Whit, you'll enjoy Caleb. Same story, different perspectives.Do I need all of her books to have this companion piece? Nah. But I'm glad I revisited these guys.4 Pieces of Eye Candy ... See MoreSee Less

✨EXCERPT: CALEB by @coraroseauthor releasing April 24th! #PreOrderNowbooks2read.com/u/4En91A I shake my head, even though it is. I feel like my heart is being ripped from my body. The choice I have to make. Is it even a choice? “I…I overreacted. I’m…I’ll be fine,” I tell him, clutching at his hand and turning it to kiss that rough palm. Because I have to be fine with whatever I choose. And I don’t know if I can choose a future with him. Not after everything I’ve been through. My parents owe me for what they put me through. I’ve earned it with my blood and tears. Can I give it all up? For him? Caleb’s thumbs rub over my cheeks. “Okay.” He doesn’t sound convinced. Not that I expect him to. I’m a liar in the worst way. Selfish, thoughtless. He will never forgive me once this is over. My eyes water, and Caleb’s face crumples as he pulls me into his chest and holds me. I should never have let him be my roommate. I should have let him go about his life, never knowing me. It would have been simpler, better. But I was too greedy. Wanted him too much. And now look what I’ve done. I’m set to ruin him. I need to pull away before I do more damage. I need to end this. Soon, I tell myself. Just one more day. Let me have one more day.#mmromance #corarose The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less
