Counting Daisies by Nicola Haken : Blog Tour, 2 TCO Exclusive Excerpts, and Giveaway

August 1, 2016 by Denise

Title: Counting Daisies
Author: Nicola Haken
Genre: MM Romance
Release Date: August 1, 2016
synopsis

Dylan Roberts and Cameron O’Neil were good kids. Growing up together, they shared everything. By the age of fourteen they were more than best friends – they were in love. They dreamt of their future, of success, marriage…happiness. They were going to grow old by each other’s side.

But… “Kids are stupid.”

When tragic circumstances forced them apart, Dylan discovered that life wasn’t the fairytale he dreamed of; it was dark, difficult, saturated with pain and shame. Life wasn’t meant to be enjoyed, merely survived, but even that became a challenge.

Damaged, worthless, and disgusting, he saw no point to his pitiful existence…

Until he came face to face with the boy he used to love.

Successful, honourable, and happy, Cameron had achieved the future they planned. He was good, positive, popular…everything Dylan would never be. What would happen if Dylan let him back into his world? Would he destroy Cameron too? Would his poison push him away like everyone else?

“Everybody leaves.”

“They leave or they die.”

But what if…what if Cameron didn’t?

“This is a deep and powerful book with the main theme which is refreshing less about the path of a relationship and way more about the real life gritty obstacles that come on the way of their HEA.” – Reader Review

“This book was phenomenal. I cried so many tears. Story was heart breaking and heartwarming all at the same time.” – SiKReviews

“This was a beautifully crafted story of friendship, love, bonds, addictive behaviour and heartache. It was hugely emotional in parts, and Nicola doesn’t hold back.” – 2 Girls & Their Kindles

excerpt
Rummaging through my coat pocket for my car keys, I stepped past what I assumed was a homeless guy sitting against the brick wall, staring up at the sky. It was a common sight on the streets of London, and as always I felt a pang of sorrow, maybe even guilt, as I carried on walking to my flashy car, ready to drive to my expensive apartment to eat my luxury food.
“C-Cameron?” The timid voice that carried my name darted into my ears, paralysing me, welding my feet to the pavement.
It can’t be.
“Cam, is that you?”
I seemed to turn in slow motion, my eyes squinting as I studied the face a few feet away, illuminated by the streetlamp above.
“Dylan?”
Standing, he strode towards me, each step hesitant and wobbly, and as he neared I had no doubt in my mind. “Oh my God. Dylan!”
Automatically, I lunged forward, my arms folding around his body, around his leather jacket, his dad’s jacket, and held him tight to my chest.
Pulling back, I stared at his face, pressing my hand to his cheek to move back the side of his grey hoody. Christ, the feel of his skin on mine…it still sent tingles through my spine even after all these years. He still felt familiar. He still felt like home.

Excerpt from Counting Backwards (Book Two in The Counting Series)

~Paul~

“I’m gonna die alone,” I said, tipping my head back on the couch cushions.
I expected Derek to grumble, or at least laugh at me, but he didn’t. Instead, he slapped his hand down on my knee and spoke in the most tender tone I’d ever heard from his lips. “We got each other.”
Four little words, yet they made my chest feel funny. My heart beat a little faster and the feel of his hand on my jeans-clad leg made my stomach tickle. “You coming onto me, old man?” I didn’t like how unsettled I suddenly felt so I turned it into a joke.
“No.” He sounded almost offended. “I’m just sayin’ maybe I don’t wanna grow old alone either.”
“But…you hate people.”
“I don’t ‘ate you. Well, not all the time anyway.”
My eyes narrowed as I flopped my head to the side to look at him. He sounded so…serious. Derek and I didn’t do serious. “Are you saying you want to make one of those pacts? Like, if we’re still single in ten years we’ll marry each other kinda thing.”
“Fuck no! Christ, I couldn’t live wi’ your whiney arse twenty-four seven.”
We were back to goofing around. Normality had resumed.
Phew.
“I just meant if we never get to ‘ave the ‘ole romance novel life, we’ll always ‘ave each other to get drunk with. We can bitch about ‘ow sickenin’ the likes o’ Cam and Dyl are together while we’re doin’ wheelies in our wheelchairs in the old folks ‘ome.”
“I’d whip your arse in a wheelie contest,” I said, my voice brimming with confidence.
With an amused grin taking over his face, he pointed to my stomach. “Wi’ that podge?”
Covering my belly with my hand, my jaw dropped. “I do not have a podge!”
Derek’s build was what could only be described as fucking huge. He had broad shoulders and a strong neck, biceps like fucking watermelons that were decorated with vibrant tattoos on his left, black and grey on his right. He was solid everywhere. You ran the risk of getting knocked the fuck out just brushing against him.
Sure, in comparison I was tiny, but I didn’t have a podgy belly. If I tensed hard enough in front of the mirror I could almost see the shadow of a four-pack. “I’m lighter,” I said. “Which means I can haul my weight around faster. You don’t stand a chance.”
“Oh yeah? Prove it.”
I rolled my eyes. “Shit. I left my wheelchair at home.”
“Come to the gym wi’ me and Dyl this mornin’. Challenge me on the treadmill.”
Fuck. “I’m hungover. Wouldn’t be a fair fight.”
“Yeah, yeah.” The twat snickered. “Shame you can’t live up to that big gob o’ yours.”
“Tomorrow.” Shit. What the hell did I say that for? “Tomorrow. Seven AM. I’ll be ready.”
Derek’s eyebrow rose as he jerked his head back. “You’re on, Twinkle.” He held out his closed fist, which I proceeded to bump, but inside I was quietly petrified. “Prepare to lose.”
I’ll die before I step off that treadmill. I wouldn’t give the cocky fucker the satisfaction. And so it looked like today could quite possibly have been my last day on earth.
Shit.

paula review

This was such a powerful book. Dylan broke my heart. He’s so lost and broken. He tries really hard and struggles. My heart was with him through the whole book. I was rooting for him so bad. Cameron was amazing. He was so loving and forgiving. He truly believed in Dylan and was very supportive. I really like how Nicola wrote this story. There wasn’t a magic you’re fine ending. She was realistic in the work and daily struggle that Dylan would have to live with. Cameron was my champion in this story. He love for Dylan and his acknowledging the fact that Dylan would struggle with his sobriety. The entire story was very realistic to me with the ups and downs.

His Premier by Jessie G : Cover Reveal, Excerpt and Teaser

August 1, 2016 by Denise

Book Title: His Premier

Author: Jessie G

Series: Sizzling Miami

Release Date: September 20, 2016

synopsis

Born into wealth and privilege, Colin Sinclair was raised on the knowledge that money could buy anything and everyone had a price. Trouble was no trouble at all, not when the money was there to sweep it under the rug. But those lessons, learned at the knee of his father, were going to be challenged in a way that would change Colin forever.

In middle class suburbia, Arnaud Dechene learned the value of hard work, focus, and dedication to a dream. He was well on his way to achieving it, the role of Premier, when he catches Colin’s eye. Rich snobs didn’t usually do it for him, but there was something about Colin that made him impossible to resist.

Despite being opposites in every way, falling into a relationship was surprisingly—and deceptively—easy, but Arnaud never lost sight of his dream and Colin had trouble accepting that he was second place to anything. When a stupid argument leads to a reckless act, the repercussions leave Arnaud fighting for his life and Colin paying with his own.

With a little meddling from an aging schemer and intentions that are more well-meaning than realistic, their paths will cross again. However, Colin and Arnaud aren’t the same men who loved with abandon. They are older and wiser, with a history that might be too big to overcome.

Fans of the series know revenge is a double-edged sword, forgiveness doesn’t always come easy, and forgetting is damn near impossible. But love…well, that may just conquer all.

excerpt

“You’re looking a little green over there.” Arnaud shifted in his seat and looked at him seriously. “I kind of thought, hoped, that maybe we were ready. I think I’m ready. Are you?”

Ready? Colin spared a glance at the erection straining against the zipper of his slacks and then looked at Arnaud. “I want you, if that’s what you’re asking. Is that what you mean?”

“That’s exactly what I mean.” Arnaud followed his gaze and licked his lips like he was anticipating getting a taste. That natural sensuality never failed to hit him right in the balls.

Were they actually going to do this? Another glance at his seductive passenger and Colin knew they were, but he didn’t just want to find a room and fuck. He wanted the romance and if that made him a sap, well he’d be a sap for Arnaud.

“I had a whole, uh, romantic night planned. Not that, I wouldn’t presume, but we can definitely, uh, add that.” In some circles, he was considered sophisticated, calm, and stoic. In Arnaud’s orbit, he was a stumbling, bumbling buffoon, and his soon-to-be lover smiled at him adoringly.

With a flutter of his eyelashes, Arnaud placed a hand over his heart and gave a dramatic sigh. “Why, Colin Sinclair, are you courting me?”

On anyone else, that practiced act would have annoyed him. Why he ate it up when Arnaud did it was just another question in the long list of things he found endearing about this one specific man. “I was definitely trying. How am I doing?”

All traces of teasing eased, replaced with that adoring look Colin was becoming addicted to. With another sigh, this one definitely heartfelt and real, Arnaud leaned in and kissed him gently on the cheek. How was that hot? Christ, this man just did it for him on all levels.

“I think I’m falling in love with you, Colin. That’s how you’re doing.”

Right then, Colin knew he would do anything, jump through any hoops, and rearrange his whole life to be the man Arnaud Dechene, soon to be famous dancer, loved. “I think I’m falling in love with you too.”

meet the author

Like many readers, the dream of being a writer has been with me a long time. After three decades of trying, I’d begun to doubt. Thanks to social media, I followed my favorite authors hoping to glean some words of wisdom as I pounded out half-formed ideas with alarming regularity. Two repetitive themes emerged: To be a great writer you must read a lot and your butt must be in the chair every day like it’s a job. The more you write, the easier it will be to write and the better you will be at writing. I took that advice to heart and write every day. With three series in the works and counting, it’s been amazing to have made this dream my reality.

I am a firm believer in marriage equality, love at first sight, power dynamics and happily ever after. I’m a lover of strong secondary characters and series filled with families, biological or chosen. All are themes you’ll find throughout my books.

Fish Out of Water by Amy Lane : Release Day Review

July 29, 2016 by Denise

fish out of watersynopsis

PI Jackson Rivers grew up on the mean streets of Del Paso Heights—and he doesn’t trust cops, even though he was one. When the man he thinks of as his brother is accused of killing a police officer in an obviously doctored crime, Jackson will move heaven and earth to keep Kaden and his family safe.

Defense attorney Ellery Cramer grew up with the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth, but that hasn’t stopped him from crushing on street-smart, swaggering Jackson Rivers for the past six years. But when Jackson asks for his help defending Kaden Cameron, Ellery is out of his depth—and not just with guarded, prickly Jackson. Kaden wasn’t just framed, he was framed by crooked cops, and the conspiracy goes higher than Ellery dares reach—and deep into Jackson’s troubled past.

Both men are soon enmeshed in the mystery of who killed the cop in the minimart, and engaged in a race against time to clear Kaden’s name. But when the mystery is solved and the bullets stop flying, they’ll have to deal with their personal complications… and an attraction that’s spiraled out of control.

paula reviewI really enjoyed this story. However I had to kind of forget about what is going on in the real world right now, and just put myself in the story.

First you have Jackson Rivers, a former cop turned PI. He is very much a no strings kind of guy. Men, women it doesn’t matter. And he has had a lot of people in his bed. I really liked this character. His attitude and personality was so good. He has a whole bunch of issues, and all of them are well deserved. His life has not been easy. His relationship with his family was beautiful. The loyalty and love there was incredible.

Ellery is like the complete opposite of Jackson. He grew up in a stable, privileged home. He was perfect for Jackson. He could take Jackson’s attitude and dish it right back.

I loved watching him push Jackson to get what he wanted and what Jackson needed. Some of the scenes between these two were page smoking HAWT!! Ellery was fearless in his pursuit to get to the truth. Highly recommend this one.

Monthly Author Column: Avon Gale Writes

July 28, 2016 by Denise

Featured Author Avon Gale

The other day on Twitter (where, it is established, Avon spends a lot of her time) someone asked the question, “What’s the first audiobook you remember listening to?” And I thought about it, because important questions like these deserve thoughtful answers, and realized the answer was…

Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews.
Okay, disclaimer, I’m thirty-nine so I grew up in the era when everyone read Flowers in the Attic, even those kids who didn’t read or whose parents were always trying to get books banned in your school. Someone inevitably had it and passed it around to “that one part” in the way of kids. Or, maybe I should say, in the way of kids in the late eighties. Now I guess it would be on Snapchat.
Anyway, my parents actually bought me two box sets of V.C. Andrews’ novels for Christmas when I was twelve – one with the Flowers in the Attic series (three books at the time, I believe) and one with the three-book Heaven series, which was actually my favorite. I have no idea why my parents thought these were appropriate books for a twelve-year-old, except that I read Sybil in the fifth grade and Pet Sematary in the sixth. So maybe they were like, “Dial it down, would you?” There’s a reason I found Bridge to Terabithia boring in school, LOL.
So long story short, I loved the V.C. Andrews’ books. When I was 13, my mom would give me a copy of a gothic romance novel and that was it, I was sunk and I ended up a romance novelist. (I still read a lot of V.C. Andrews along with the romance in my teenage years, I won’t lie. I gave up around Ruby though.) So I have a very vivid memory of checking the audiobook out of the library – they were cassette tapes, of course, because this is the late eighties. We also used to go on a lot of car trips when I was a kid, and my parents would stop at Cracker Barrel because you could rent “books on tape” there and then return them at any other Cracker Barrel, of which there are a lot – especially in the south.
(Apropos of nothing – I still refer to audiobooks as “books on tape.” I can’t help it.)
I remember spending a lot of happy trips listening to Lawrence Sanders’ Archie McNally series with my mom, about a PI in Palm Beach, Florida. And I remember listening to my favorite Disney story, “The Fox and Hound”, on one of those little record players for kids that were popular when I was small.
Recently I had the experience of listening to my own book in audio, as the narrator for Breakaway (Scott R. Smith, who is awesome!) sent me the files as he recorded them. It was one of the coolest experiences in my authorial career thus far, hearing a professional bring my words to life. I was lucky enough to get narrators for both that title and my first book, Let the Wrong Light In, who really sounded like the characters did in my head. Lane and Avery both have distinctive voices to me, and Scott and Derrick McClain (the narrator for Let the Wrong Light In) both nailed those voices to a T. And wow, Scott’s Jared is just to-die-for sexy, let me tell you.

13839675_1569807789990139_951329194_o
I won’t lie, listening to someone read a sex scene I’ve written was…well, if you follow me on social media I think I posted a picture of me hiding under a blanket the first time I had to listen to one. It’s a similar feeling to the one I got when my mother-in-law told me she was reading Breakaway because…well, she’s my mother-in-law. (She liked it, though!)
One of the things that I really found interesting as I was listening was how much I hear the rhythm of my own words when I write them – and how the narrator “hears” them so much differently than I do. Not even dialogue, though that is a part of it, of course. It’s the non-dialogue bits, too – my own narrative voice, if you will. I had no idea how strongly I narrate the inflection in my head (since I never stop talking, this is probably a surprise to no one). And it’s not a case of right or wrong, good or bad — it just surprised me to hear how different it could sound.
It’s sort of the same feeling I get when people talk about my characters, and how different other people’s interpretations of them can be than my own. Lane was a character that people either really liked and connected with, or…not so much 😀 Which is fine! As an author, I think it’s sort of awesome when people have strong reactions to my characters, even if they don’t like them. I mean, Lane drove me crazy a lot. They all have things that drive me crazy, to be honest. I try to make them real people and that means they’re not perfect, even if I do tend to write everyone living in a land where people are tolerant and accepting because, well, that’s the world I’d like to live in and that’s a happily-ever-after I can totally get behind.
Writing and putting something out there is scary, but the rewards are pretty awesome – and I really do love the audiobook and hope people who enjoyed Breakaway will love it, too. It’s strange to think about myself when I was younger, listening to Flowers in the Attic or the McNallybooks, scribbling away at my own stories and not knowing one day I’d have the chance to listen to those.
I wonder if V.C. Andrews listened to her books. I bet I know exactly what part made her cringe, too.

tco-friday five-ish

  1. Showing Him the Ropes is a book about professional wrestling. What was your inspiration for writing this? Is the sport as staged as we’ve heard it is?

My inspiration is the fact that I’m a big ole wrestling nerd. Don’t believe me? Here I am in my twenties after a 16 hour drive to go to Wrestlemania. Awww, baby Christa!

christa-wrestlemaia

Anyhoo. I took a break from writing several years ago because all of my free time was taken up playing roller derby. While I was playing that sport, I broke my leg and found myself with a summer full of free time. I spent it reading and writing wrestling fanfiction, which got me back into writing. And I thought to myself, as much as I love writing about wrestling for fics, why not write an original series about it? So Champions of Desire was birthed in my noggin.

And yes, professional wrestling is scripted. Which means the outcomes of the matches are pre-determined. The men and women in the ring don’t actually hate each other and they’re not trying to kill each other. Think of it as live action theatre. The wrestlers have an end goal and they work together, telling a story in the ring to get to that result. The moves they do are very athletic and can be dangerous. They train and work hard, so don’t go trying to do a pile driver on your friends after you read this book!

  1. Do you have any wrestling celebrity crushes that shaped these characters? Did their on-stage personalities come through in your writing of these characters?

    seth
    Seth Rollins
kota
Kota Ibushi

Haha! I knew you were going to ask this! Actually, I figure most people who know wrestlers will want to know this, so let’s just get it on out of the way. First! I made sure not to actually base my MCs on any real wrestlers. I didn’t want it to read like a fic, you know? But I did have a mix of guys in my head as I wrote. Devin Jacobs is my hot shot young rookie. He’s a bit of a playful flirt. For him I’d say I was inspired by Seth Rollins and Kota Ibushi. Kota for his high flying moves and general adorableness and Seth for his cocky “look at me I’m the coolest” attitude.

John Cena
John Cena

Chance, on the other hand, is at the top of the mountain. But he’s been

regal
William Regal

there awhile and as a result he’s sort of gruff and tired. He’s very muscular and athletic, but also very smart. So for him, I’d say John Cena and William Regal stomped around in my head a bit.

  1. Let’s say I don’t know anything about wrestling (which to be fair, I don’t 🙂 ). How were you able to make sure that the average reader would be able to hang in there and “get” everything?

I tried to pay attention to the wrestling lingo I was using to make sure I gave context clues. I also created a glossary of wrestling terms that will be included in the book. But it’s funny, those words have been a part of my vocabulary for so long that I didn’t realize just how many of them the general public isn’t aware of. You asked me what a turnbuckle was and I was so surprised that wasn’t an everyday word. Ha! Thanks for the heads up there!

  1. What one thing are you most excited about with this book? Okay, you can make it as many things as you want.

Honestly, I’m excited to get to do something creatively with the world that I love so much. It was fun not only writing the story, but deciding on things like Devin’s ring gear and picking his finishing move. I’m also excited to present a romance that shows wrestling as realistically as possible. Or at least, as realistically as someone who isn’t in the business can. I’ve read a few other wrestling romances and struggled to suspend my disbelief on some of the plot points, because I know that would never happen. It’s like a scientist watching a sci-fi movie and flipping out because the characters do an experiment without a control group. (or something else that’s terribly horrifying to scientists.) And last, I’m excited to give the women and men who enjoy both wrestling and romance a chance to read a story set in a backdrop that they love.

  1. Last question is always the fun one. So, wrestling poses…they must be awkward for the “straight” viewer. Give us some of the best poses that make you giggle at all the homo-eroticism in play in such a testosterone fueled industry.Pin attempts nearly always lead to immature laughs. In order to pin someone in wrestling and score the victory, you basically have to lay on top of them. Sometimes you end up with pins like this:ambrollins fcw cesaro 69It’s just so hilarious. Like, what? That’s the best way you could come up with to show you won? Okaaaaaay. ;-)Thanks for having me on and letting me ramble about wrestling!Christa

His confidant. His right- hand. His best friend. The brother he would choose. I’ve been cast aside, relegated to the shadows. Forced to watch as Max and Dominic get everything they want. Everything I secretly want. But then, Dominic suddenly sees me and issues an offer I can’t refuse. A challenge, actually. One he never expects me to follow through on.With anyone else, I wouldn’t have considered it. But I’ll be damned before I let Dominic get the better of me. It has me sinking to my knees. Literally. A decision that changes everything.Dominic pulls me out of the shadows, and I never want to go back. But it’s not the shadows I need to be afraid of.No, it’s the path that leads somewhere far darker than I could ever have imagined. Somewhere where truth and lies become shadowed.✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up here to promote this awesome release: bit.ly/shadowduetLTsignup#larktaylor #shadowduet #mmromance The Author Agency ... ✨TEASER: FOR FRAT’S SAKE by Riley Hart & @devonmccormack releasing April 30th! #PreOrdergeni.us/ForFratsSakeWhy you need #ONECLICK this book…🔥MM Romance🔥Enemies-to-Lovers🔥Grumpy/Sunshine🔥Opposites Attract🔥Protective MC🔥Plenty of Spice🔥Marking/Rough playDAXMiles Tanner hates me for no reason.Me—lovable, easygoing, sexy-as-hell Dax Armstrong, always there when a fellow fratbro needs a hand…or if that fratbro would like to enjoy more than just my hand…Miles is the broody artist-type who just got off probation for starting the fire at Sigma Alpha.Basically, a walking red flag. But for a guy who’s always looking to start a fight with me, I can’t wrap my mind around a night when I was a little too tipsy and he helped me back to Alpha Theta Mu.Since then, he’s hot and cold. One minute he’s telling me to stay away from him. The next, he moves in for a touch.Or a kiss.In these unguarded moments, all those problematic, confusing red flags fade to the background.Maybe he’s right and I shouldn’t mess with him, but for frat’s sake…where’s the fun in that?✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up here for this awesome release: bit.ly/forfratssakesignup#rileyhart #devonmccormack #mmromance The Author Agency ... COVER REVEAL from A.E. Via Thank you Jay Aheer!!! BLURB: The Ravens are supposed to be perfect weapons, therefore Scar and Gage should not exist.Oscar “Scar” Calloway was one of the most feared gang leaders on Chicago’s South Side—cold, brutal, and ruthless, even before the assassin enhancements.Gage Harrington was something else entirely—a man whose faith, compassion, and discipline made him a liability in a program built on violence. Both men were taken from desperate circumstances and promised rebirth. But when the science collapses and transformation fails, leaving one blind and the other unpredictable, they get marked for execution. With raw instinct and out of sheer desperation, Scar and Gage form an unlikely alliance to escape the place meant to bury them.Scar is uncontrolled fury, a predator shaped by the streets, and Gage navigates the world with empathy and calm strength. They should hate each other. But the more they fight, the harder it becomes to ignore the pull between them.Their trust is fragile and their natures at odds.Yet, together, they forge something rare and invaluable the Ravens didn’t know they needed to complete the flock.Preorder Link: www.amazon.com/White-Ravens-Book.../dp/B0FRYNC87F...Go to her group for an enticing Excerpt!!! 😍😍www.facebook.com/groups/636610423028342/ ...
