Two Chicks Obsessed with Books & Eye Candy

Sharing our love of M/M Romance

Switched by N.R. Walker: Review

January 2, 2017 by Denise

synopsis

Israel Ingham’s life has never been easy. He grew up in a house devoid of love and warmth. Nothing he ever did was good enough. The fact Israel is gay just added to the long list of his father’s disappointments.

Then a letter from Eastport Children’s Hospital changes everything.

A discovery is made, one of gross human error. Twenty-six years ago two baby boys were switched at birth and sent home with the wrong families.

Sam, Israel’s best friend, has been his only source of love and support. With Sam beside him every step of the way, Israel decides to meet his birth mother and her son, the man who lived the life Israel should have.

Israel and Sam become closer than ever, amidst the tumultuous emotions of meeting his birth family, and Sam finds himself questioning his feelings toward his best friend. As Israel embraces new possibilities, he needs to dissect his painful relationship with his parents in order to salvage what’s left.

Because sometimes it takes proof you’re not actually family to become one.

denise review

Why do I continue to allow N.R. Walker to surprise me? There has not been one of this author’s books that I have been disappointed in, even ones that I would likely not have picked up if someone hadn’t said “read this!” And yet, I continue to be surprised by this author each and every time I read her books. She writes with such passion, and shows such character growth, that I wonder if she has a degree in human psychology, and if not, then she truly understands human emotion.

This book could have easily been a trope of “man finds he’s switched at birth, and falls in love with the man he was switched with”, which would have left me the feeling of a Hallmark movie. Instead, it was a story about family. It was about how one event, more than two decades before can determine family, how you see family, and what makes a family whole.

Switched was not your average male/male romance. It was a story focused on the growth of one character, Israel, after a circumstance that is almost impossible to understand all of the ramifications of. It also happened to have a hot, sexy lawyer who Israel realized he was in love with…and damn, those were some HAWT sex scenes.

In the end, though, to see how Israel found a way to love his parents, and to love himself, as well as letting in the love of another family, was heart warming. Israel worked hard to get there. It wasn’t a snap fix, as can sometimes happen in similar books. He was willing to put in the effort, and believe in what he could see of himself, and his family. The author gave the reader what they needed to really understand this character, time to learn where he came from, time to see where he was headed, and how he made himself get there. The journey the author brings you on sets you up from the beginning to understand how much change Israel needs in his life to feel whole, and to feel loved.

I cried several times in the book. Sometimes happy tears, sometimes tears of sadness, but as always the tears that N.R. Walker can so often bring to my eyes. She works magic in books that I only find with a few authors. I promise I will NEVER doubt again!!!! 🙂

A fragile attraction begins to bloom between them in spite of the many reasons they each have to fight it. deanna review

I really enjoyed this one, J R Loveless is a new author to me and I wasn’t disappointed.

Lane is extremely shy, almost painfully so. His parents died when he was 15 and he bounced around from foster home to foster home until he was 18. Then he roamed from place to place never allowing anyone close, until he lands in Christmas Valley.

Lane starts working at a restaurant as a bus boy and slowly the owner, Tal earns his trust. Then Lane finds a cat and before you know it, he’s put down some roots. He’s still extremely quiet and uncomfortable around strangers, but he’s taking care of himself.

Then Lane meets Trey, Tal’s brother who can only be described as rude. Trey is so used to Tal being taken in by a sad story and then being hurt when someone steals from him that he assumes Lane is doing the same thing. Without giving Lane a chance, Trey warns him about hurting Tal. Lane is so upset by the confrontation that he begins planning his escape from Christmas Valley and Trey.

Tal finally corners Trey and explains just how bad a life Lane had before coming to Christmas Valley. The story has Trey looking at Lane in a new light and he knows he has to do everything he can to repair the tenuous relationship he has with the skittish man.

As the two work together in the restaurant, Lane becomes more comfortable in Trey’s presence. A huge snowstorm leaves Lane and Trey snowed in together and Lane realizes that he’s fighting a losing battle trying to keep him feelings for Trey at bay. Trey only has until the snow melts to prove to Lane that he’s worth the gamble.

Great holiday read. I love stories with strong characters that don’t realize how strong they are. Lane is as strong as they come, but he didn’t realize it about himself. Trey may be physically stronger, but Lane is an emotional fortress.

If ever there was someone that deserved a happily ever after its Lane. I. So glad he got it.

J R Loveless is a new author to me, but I am definitely going to read a few more. Very enjoyable story, great scenery and characters.

synopsis

Flynn’s new boss is so hot he can’t wait to get home to tell the chatroom how much he wants Dom’s cock down his throat. By Friday, he’s shared quite a few thoughts on what he’d like his boss to do to him. But he’s not as anonymous as he thinks, and Dom’s intent on disciplining him for breaching company policy on social networking. Dom gives him a choice of put up or shut up: he can play out the fantasy in real life, or he can walk out of the office without a word to HR as long as he never talks that way about Dom again. Flynn chooses “put up”—but he’s forgotten about one of the things he said he wouldn’t mind doing.

excerpt

The new manager was really something: tall, dark, and handsome, with a superb arse that looked great in a suit. Flynn wouldn’t mind seeing what it looked like out of the suit. Unfortunately the suit was respectably cut at the front, making it impossible to tell without staring whether the guy dressed to the left or the right, let alone how big his cock was.

Not the sort of thing one ought to be thinking about while listening to the big boss introduce the new manager. He barely caught the guy’s name—Dominic.

“Pleasure to meet you all,” Dominic said. “I look forward to getting to know you better over the next few weeks.”

Flynn looked forward to it as well. He particularly looked forward to getting to know him better in the gents, at least well enough to idly glance down and check out the cock. A pity he wasn’t likely to get to know Dominic in the gents any better than that, not in real life; but it was his own business what he did in the privacy of his own head.

And in the privacy of his favourite board online that evening. No wallet names, no ID. Not even your location listed unless you wanted it out there in the hope of hooking up with someone for a night’s fuck. A safe place to talk about just how much he fancied the new boss.

[New boss arrived today. Absolutely bloody gorgeous, if you like older men. Wouldn’t mind having him discipline me for poor performance.]

[Better if he disciplines you for good performance] an anon said.

[Oh, I think I could perform well for him.]

Flynn could think of a number of ways he could perform, starting with:

[Down on my knees with my mouth open.]

Storm Duffy has a number of erotica shorts published under that and other names in a variety of venues, including “The Mammoth Book of Quick and Dirty Erotica”. As Jules Jones, she has written several erotic romance novellas and novels, including the first M/M romance published by Loose Id.

Amongst the 2500 or so books on shelves in her house, there is room for rather a lot of cross-stitch thread and entirely too many balls of wool. There are also more bits of computer kit than is quite reasonable for someone who doesn’t do that for a living. denise review

One of my favorite romance tropes is the virgin. It totally takes me back to the Harlequin romances I read as a teenager, that were “oh so dirty” at that time, and I had to read under the covers with a flashlight.

Amy Lane‘s version, the Virgin Manny is such a fantastic entry with this trope. Tino is such a family man, really doing everything he can to make his family proud of him, helping whenever he can, and graduating college was so important to him. Finding a way to do it debt free was not in his plans, but when Channing steps in to request help, Tino finds the offer to good to refuse.

Seeing their relationship grow, and seeing Tino realize that “life is what happens” when all your plans are just that, plans, allows him to become an even more solid presence for his family, as well as Channing and his nephew. Even as he sees plans for family members change, he wrestles with change, but still is able to focus on the important things in life.

Tino’s family was great. I loved them all. And the “bad person”…totally gets what is deserved. THAT is a happy ending. 😉

Falling Snow on Snow by Lou Sylvre: Blog Tour, Interview and Giveaway

December 28, 2016 by Denise

falling-snow-on-snow-cover-400x600synopsisBeck Justice knows holiday sparkle and snappy carols only mask December’s cruel, black heart. He learned that lesson even before he landed on the streets eight years ago, and his recent step up to a tiny apartment and a busker’s permit for Seattle’s Pike Place Market has done nothing to change his mind. But one day in the market, Oleg Abramov joins his ethereal voice to Beck’s guitar, and Beck glimpses light in his bleak, dark winter.

Oleg, lucky to have a large and loving family, believes Beck could be the man to fill the void that nevertheless remains in his life. The two men step out on a path toward love, but it proves as slippery as Seattle’s icy streets. Just when they get close, a misunderstanding shatters their hopes. Light and harmony are still within reach, but only if they choose to believe, risk their hearts, and trust.

Character Interview

Beck and Oleg Quickie Author Interview

Hi! Lou Sylvre here, appearing for the very first time on Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy. Gotta love the blog name, and thank you much, TCO, for lending me some space. Okay, for my post today, I decided to answer the questions Beck Justice and Oleg Abramov, the (eventually) loving couple from Falling Snow on Snow, have been dying to ask me ever since they made me tell their story.

_____________

First, from Beck: Why on earth did you have me feeding a crow?

Well, Beck, it’s like this. I love crows. And besides that, you are a really goodhearted guy, but I wasn’t sure you knew it. And if you didn’t know, readers might not know either. So when I saw King Coal (that poor old, damaged crow) trying to survive on the roof of your building, I figured if I made you aware, you’d start feeding him (which you did, all by yourself), and if you were feeding an old crow—and also providing a home for Parcheesi, the formerly homeless cat—it would start to clear a path to your heart, by which a yummy, sweet guy like Oleg could make his way into your affections. And it worked.

Oleg asks: Why is my voice a high alto?

Simple, dear Oleg. Because it’s beautiful, and so are you. And also, I heard your song echoing through the halls of the market in a dream. Thanks for that, by the way.

Beck again: I don’t understand John Gillette, my stepdad. Can you help me out, here?

Of course. See, here’s the thing, Beck. Every single person on the planet has the capacity for cruelty. Yes, even children, grandmothers, and dog-lovers. Stepdads are no worse or better than any other. Sometimes, when people endure horror, such as John endured at war, it wounds them in such a way that, when one more bad thing tips the scales, they can’t dredge up the goodness to deny that cruel streak. It’s a terrible thing. People like the boy you were when John put you out on the streets get hurt in awful ways. In one sense it’s unforgiveable. But cruelty is a double-edged blade—cuts both ways. When a person hurts another the way John did you, it drains them of their humanity, and their wounds fester. In John’s case, he became a hopeless alcoholic, and ended up in dire straits. But when you gave yourself permission to be compassionate toward him instead of returning cruelty for cruelty, you helped heal the wound of your own trauma, and you gave John back a little of the soul he’d sacrificed. Good on you. Of course, I hadn’t thought that through when I wrote it. I was just telling your story and John was in it. But it makes sense, don’t you think?

After giving Beck a comforting hug, Oleg asks: What’s your favorite place to get Pelmeni?

Ah, that’s easy. There’s a little shop downtown Olympia, Washington, called Rush In Dumplings. (Get it?) Love their Siberian Classic.

Oleg again: Okay, that was an easy one. How about this: How did you find me? I mean of all the characters out there you could have paired up with Beck, why me, a Russian immigrant with a big, loving family, who couldn’t figure out how to find the right man?

I didn’t! You found me. Or maybe I should say you found Beck. When I had poor, scrooge-like Beck stuck in the Market in Seattle playing Christmas songs he hated for tips, I could only think of two things that would change his perspective. One was snow, the other was a fine man whose music was a match for Beck’s own. You auditioned. Don’t you remember? After that, nobody else would do.

So, that’s it, no more questions from Beck and Oleg. Readers, remember to enter the giveaway, and also I hope you’ll join me for the other stops on the tour—different kinds of interviews, an epic playlist, a day in Seattle, and more!

Lou Sylvre lives and writes on the rainy side of Washington State, penning mostly suspense/romance novels because she can’t resist giving her characters hard times but good love. Her personal assistant is Boudreau, a large cat who never outgrew his kitten meow, and he makes a point of letting her know when she’s taken a plot tangent too far. Apparently an English major, he helps a lot, but Lou refuses to put his name on the byline. (Boudreau invites readers to give their feedback as well!) When Lou isn’t writing, she’s reading fiction from nearly every genre, romance in all its tints and shades, and the occasional book about history, physics, or police procedure. Not zombies, though—she avoids zombies like the plague unless they have a great sense of humor. She plays guitar (mostly where people can’t hear her) and she loves to sing. She’s most often smiling and laughs too much, some say. Among other things and in no particular order, she loves her family, her friends, the aforementioned Boudreau, his sister George, and their little brother Nibbles, a chihuahua named Joe, a dachshund named Chloe, and a slew of chihuahua/dachshund puppies. She takes pleasure in coffee, chocolate, sunshine, gardens, wild roses, and every beautiful thing in the world.

Add Love and Mix by Sean Michael: Quick Review

December 26, 2016 by Denise

513ixfwi0jlsynopsisFirefighter Jason “Jase” Weller and EMT Scott Bronson are living the perfect life. They work together in jobs they love, they live together, and in their downtime, they still can’t get enough of each other. It’s been six amazing years. Then on Christmas Eve, Jase’s former lover Elsa shows up with a six-year-old girl in tow. The strung-out junkie claims Kerry is Jase’s daughter and it’s his turn to care for her, and then she walks out.

Shocked at both the fact that Elsa is now a junkie and that he has a daughter he never knew about, Jase nonetheless steps up to the plate as her father and Scott offers his full support. Having an instant family comes with plenty of challenges, and the two men work to deal with sweeping changes in their lives and to make things right for Kerry.

It’s not going to be easy, and their new circumstances test them and their relationship like nothing ever has. They’ll need all the love they have for each other, and the love they discover for their daughter, to keep from breaking apart.

I love Sean Michael’s way he writes about daddies and mannies and cute kids that you can’t help but fall in love with. This one was no different.
Jase and Scott have been partners for the last six years. They work together as emergency responders, Jase a firefighter and Scott an EMT, at the same firehouse; working the same shifts and being content just the two of them, happy, together and in love. Everything was perfect for them.
Then, an ex of Jase’s stops by and drops a huge surprise in his lap, in the form of an abused and mistreated daughter; Kerry. Her mother was awful, treated her so badly, it was heartbreaking. She spoke to her and about her in the worst way and it showed in everything Kerry done. Jase had no idea she even existed or he would have done all he could to save her, and jeeeez, had it been me, it would have weighed heavily on me, all the years that she’d been mistreated. It was incredibly sad.

Together though, Scott and Jase tried to give her normal and happy. They worked therselved to the bone to do right by her and to get her to understand that they loved her and that they weren’t going to do anything to hurt her or leave her like her mother did. Half of me expected the whole time for her mother to come back and try to get her back to sell her or something, but thankfully; she doesn’t.
It’s tough though, the guys are doing everything that they can to do what they need to do to ensure that this little girl is taken care of and safe and Scott starts to feel a little cornered, a little but like he’s doing all this stuff because he has to and I hated to see that. I could see where he was coming from especially about the marriage and the proposal at first. That would have hurt my feelings so bad. I could see where he’d feel like, just someone fitted in just because things needed to be done. That wasn’t the way it was, by no means; you can tell how much these two love each other throughout the whole thing, their chemistry and adoration they showed was apparent, but I could see where it might feel like that, due to the circumstance and timing of everything.

So, it wasn’t an easy road. Things got pretty hard for a while, luckily, they both had amazing, supportive, helpful parents who were there to help at every turn. Everyone pitched in and helped and loved Kerry the minute they met her and it didn’t take long for Kerry to turn into a happy, healthy little girl with two loving daddies and some amazing grandparents; even if she did take things out on Scott for a time. That was hard to read too, I hated it for him, especially because he had done so much and sacrificed and turned his life upside down to do everything he could for her and Jase and I’m sure it would have felt like a slap in the face.

In the end though, it all worked out. Love usually does, in the end, doesn’t it? It was an incredibly sweet, low angst, happily ended story and I wouldn’t mind reading more about this couple and their sweet little girl if another one were to happen to come out lol, but if not, it ended perfectly happy and I was pleased with the way it turned out for them.

If you like hot guys with cute kids…. Check this one out, this author does them best!

Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
✨Did you see?✨DIRTY LITTLE SECRET by @rileyhartwrites is available NOW! Grab it in KU! #OneClickNowgeni.us/DirtyLittleSecretHart Why you need to #ONECLICK this book…🔥BDSM🔥Secret Relationship 🔥Student/Professor 🔥Age Gap (28/40)🔥Younger Dom/Older sub 🔥Opposites Attract 🔥Custody of surprise siblings JamesI’m forty years old, a tenured professor with investments, property, and a 401k. But what I crave is to submit. To hand over control to Colton. We met on an app. His needs matched mine. It was only supposed to be once, then twice. No commitment, so I don’t feel bad cutting contact. Then my world implodes when I get custody of siblings I didn’t know I have. Everything would have been fine, I would have survived on my own, if not for Sir, my hookup, walking through the doors of my classroom. He’s over a decade younger than me, and now I’m his professor, yet Sir is giving me schedules I need and caretaking from a distance. I know I should stay away, but I can’t. No matter what he gives me, I want more. Colton I’m twenty-eight years old, starting my first semester as a transfer student at a local university, finally following my dreams. And then I see him, the sub I haven’t stopped thinking about, the one who comes undone for me in ways I’ve never experienced before. He makes all my Dominant instincts flare to life. I’ve always loved caretaking, but James makes me need it on a bone-deep level. It’s not long before he’s on his knees for me again, surrendering in ways we both crave. He’s forbidden, my professor, my good boy, and I’m his Sir…his dirty little secret. But it’s not enough. I want it all from him, if only he’ll let me have it. #rileyhart #newbookalert #kindleunlimited The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less

✨Did you see?✨THE ULTIMATE SAVE by @felicestevens is available NOW! Grab it in KU! #OneClickNowgeni.us/TheUltimateSaveWhy you need to #ONECLICK this book…🏒MM Hockey: goalie & the news anchor📰Enemies to Lovers🏒Hurt/comfort📰Slow burn🏒The chaos agent and the stuffed shirt📰Circle of friends🏒Hate to want you📰Secrets and liesDenisI’m the best goalie in the league.Just ask me.Yes, I have an ego the size of NYC. Maybe that’s why I’ve crashed and burned all my relationships. Love, like a hockey game, is a competition. And once I win, I’m ready for the next game, the next man.Until I meet him. Sterling Forest. The arrogant, obnoxious news anchor who calls hockey players thugs on ice. He tempts me…intrigues me. Makes me want to kiss that scowl off his lips. I want him to burn for me.Instead Sterling is the one to set my heart on fire.SterlingI know nothing about hockey, and I’m happy to keep it that way. I’ve apologized for my remarks, but the insufferable Denis Bouvier isn’t satisfied. I even do the unthinkable and attend a hockey game. Okay, maybe it is more than brute force. But I can’t tell him he’s right. Now he’s everywhere I go, and I hate that he fascinates me. I can’t escape his larger-than-life presence, and that sexy French accent. The more I push him away, the closer he pulls me in.And I’m afraid to admit I don’t want to let him go.We’ve spent years running away from broken families and broken promises. But when life explodes around us, we’re running toward each other. And now that the unthinkable has happened, we need to find trust in each other and what our hearts are saying: love is the one thing that ultimately can save us.🏒Start with The Ultimate Goal, available in KU, now: getbook.at/UltimateGoal #newbookalert #felicestevens #mmromance The Author Agency ... ✨Did you see?✨STICK AROUND by @authoremlindsey is available NOW! Grab it in KU! #OneClickNowmybook.to/lafstickaround Why you need to #ONECLICK this book…🔥Enemies to Lovers🔥Found Family🔥Hockey bro banter🔥Age-Gap🔥Enemies with Benefits🔥Disability Rep🔥Praise Kink🔥Hurt/Comfort🔥MM Romance"Would you slap a teammate for twenty-five grand?""Uh, yeah. There are a few I'd slap for free. Just point me in the right direction."Problem number one: My personal life is falling apart.Problem number two: My public life is also on thin freaking ice.Problem number three: The ridiculously hot NHL D-man with the inability to remove his head from his ass has decided I’m his number one target. And that last one is a bit of an issue since his idea of targeting me is to have absurdly hot hate-hookups with me in the locker room. Which I don’t necessarily mind…Except there’s one tiny snag in his plan: I don’t like guys.Or, well, I didn’t think I liked guys. But when Alexio Zeki drops to his knees and, uh, gets to business, I realize my very narrow view of my own sexuality needs some adjustment. And that’s ironic coming from a blind man.Admitting I’m bisexual is the easy part.Admitting I’m kind of, sort of, ridiculously into the man I claimed to hate is something else entirely. But the more he insists that I’m worth keeping, the more I start wanting to believe him.Stick Around is the first book in the Punk as Puck spin-off series, Legends and Fury. It’s a high heat, enemies to lovers rom-com with a snarky NHL goalie who has a lot of big opinions and doesn’t care if they’re unsolicited, a PPHL goalie with a mountain of problems and no way to reach the top, locker room hookups, praise, swoony romance, a low-stakes bi-awakening, hockey bro banter, tons of chirping, and the swooniest happily ever after.#newbookalert #emlindsey #mmromance The Author Agency ...
