Two Chicks Obsessed with Books & Eye Candy

Sharing our love of M/M Romance

All For Wesley by Jocelynn Drake and Rinda Elliott: RDB, Excerpt, Release Day Review and Giveaway

October 4, 2019 by Denise

A B&B owner takes on a posh hotel developer in this enemies-to-lovers story with plenty of South Florida heat.

The grudge match is set to get nasty.

Wesley and Nathan are willing to pull out all the stops to achieve their dreams.

They just never expected the heat between them to carry over to the bedroom.

After one reckless night burning up the sheets, Wes and Nathan can’t stay away from each other.

But is there any hope of them having their happily ever after when it means someone has to give up his dream?

All For Wesley is a standalone enemies-to-lovers MM romance with sneaking, spying, family troubles, helpful movie stars, one poorly timed hurricane, and all the feels.

Closing his eyes for a moment, Wesley mentally chastised himself. This whole plan had been insane. Following Nathan into the gym only to trap himself? Freaking brilliant.  At least he knew if the B and B thing didn’t work out, his future was not in private investigation.

Wesley hid among the lockers for what felt like a long time, listening to some low conversations, though none were Nathan’s voice. A couple of lockers slammed shut, and it sounded like people were heading for the shower. When it grew quiet, Wesley released the breath he’d been holding for far too long. He sneaked out from the last row of lockers, aiming to make a beeline straight to the exit and back to Wilton Cottage.

Except Nathan was waiting for him, leaning against the lockers.

In a towel.

They were alone in the locker room.

“You positively suck at being inconspicuous, do you know that? That bright shirt can be seen a mile away.” Nathan chuckled and crossed his arms over his wide, bare chest.

The towel slipped an inch lower, and all Wesley could do was stare at the light-brown happy trail below his navel and wonder how it would feel under his tongue. He could drop to his knees and tug that towel off, wouldn’t take much to dislodge it…

“Blake!”

He blinked up to find Nathan’s eyes narrowed as he stared at him. Heat crept up his neck, and he worked to remember why he was there. Hell, he could barely remember his name right then. His gaze slipped down that muscular chest again. He couldn’t help himself. Damn, but Nathan Randall was built. A lot more than he’d expected. Those damn suits hid all the good stuff.

“Are you even capable of conversation right now?”

“Hmm?” Had that towel moved when his abs contracted?

The soft laugh that met his ears did little to pull him out of his stupor. Had his mouth been dry before? Because now it was watering something fierce.

Nathan stepped closer and lifted his chin with warm fingers. “There’s an…interesting scent coming from you.”

That slammed Wesley right back down to earth. “I stepped in dog shit.” The humor of the situation got to him all of a sudden and he snorted.

Nathan grinned and Wesley was stunned at how such a little thing could transform Nathan’s entire demeanor. Had he really never seen Nathan smile at him? Well, he was sure he had, but there had always been a look of calculation in his eyes. Like he hadn’t really felt the warm emotion that went with the smile. He’d only done it to put Wesley at ease. But this time, the grin was matched with amusement in his eyes and those adorable little crinkles that stretched out from the corners. “It’s not a pleasant smell,” Nathan murmured.

“I promise, I usually smell better.”

“I’m aware.”

Wesley and Nathan, they were a little slow going for me at first, even though I am kind of a sucker for enemies to lovers. I’ve been so ready for Wesley’s story, I just knew he was going to be so sweet.

So, in this one, we have Nathan, a hotel developer who is set to stop at nothing to get Wesley, the owner of a quaint little homey, B&B in Pineapple Grove, right on the ocean. Where the B&B is a place where Wesley spent years transforming it into the perfect place for the members of his community to come and feel at home and welcome, Nathan’s idea to tear down the building and put in a newer and fancier hotel and his “dream” was built on revenge because of his own childhood in the community.

Now, don’t get me wrong… did I see where he was coming from? Absolutely! He had a terrible childhood because of his father and he wanted to show everyone who ever ignored his need for help as a child, that he wasn’t someone to discarded as trashy or unworthy, so what better way to show them, than showing them his success…. But, his dream seemed kind of immature, especially when he started having feelings for Wesley.

And I cannot lie, their back and forth, in the beginning, was a little bit repetitive, the first half of the book was just Wesley snarking at Nathan about wanting to tear his place down… I mean, it was sometimes cute and he got a couple of good digs in, but it was mostly the same thing over and over but at the same time, he was having feelings for Nathan and Nathan for him. When they decided to let their guards down though, I enjoyed them together, especially when Wesley was the type Nathan had needed as a kid and it was impossible to see that he loved and cared about his community so much, oftentimes more than himself. I loved that about him and I loved watching Wesley start falling for that part of him because it felt so important.

Anyway… I don’t wanna give the whole thing away, but there are some bumps and bruises along the way, but if you adore anything this duo writes together, you’ll love one just the same. It’s a nice change of pace from the guns and action sequences I swear that I can see in my head, and it’s sweet and sometimes sappy and I loved every second of it.
Another hit in a pretty awesome series and I cannot wait to see what’s in store for Lincoln and Jamison!!

4 pieces of eye candy from me!

Derek Bryer loves his life. His job as an assistant director at Joy Universe, the second-largest theme park complex on the planet, makes him indirectly responsible for bringing joy (pun intended) to millions of people. So what if none of his relationships are that close? Everyone he meets loves him.

Except Trav Jones. For some reason, the visiting Broadway performer would rather Derek just go away. He appreciates Derek’s work ethic, though, and after Trav steps up when Derek desperately needs someone to fill in for his sick staff, Derek seizes the chance to convince Trav he’s not such a bad guy.

Falling in love while distracted by a murder at the park, food poisoning, and colleagues laying bets on their relationship won’t be easy, but between the two of them and with the magic of Joy Universe, they’ve got this.

Top Five Things to Expect from I’ve Got This

  1. The worst Monday morning ever. Ever gone to work to find a grisly murder and a food poisoning crisis that puts over a hundred staff out of commission? That’s what happens to Derek Bryer, one of the assistant directors at Joy Universe, the second-largest theme park complex in the world.
  2. Hate at first sight. Trav Jones has had bad experiences with charismatic people in the past, so Derek, Mr. Charisma, rubs him the wrong way. Their first meeting does not go well. Their second meeting… does not go well. Their third meeting, however… wink, wink.
  3. Thousands of coworkers gossiping about relationships… and laying bets. Where they met, when they met, when they started dating, how serious it is, what will happen next—odds are available on anything you care to name.
  4. Past emotional trauma rearing its head. Trav’s been running from his own fears for years, but now he has to face them. Can Derek help him work through it, or will it leave them both broken?
  5. A murderer bent on causing trouble. Even after the arrest, there are ways to create problems, and Derek gets caught up in the middle of the storm that follows. As Joy Universe deals with the backlash, Derek has to wonder if he’ll still have a job at the end of it… and if this failure makes him unworthy of Trav.

He grins at me. “Can I use your number for more than just confirming dates?”

Heat climbs up my neck and floods my face, and I know I must be red. Christ, I’ve always blushed easily, but I spend more time red-faced around this guy than anyone else I can remember. “Maybe.” I meant it to sound flirtatious, but it comes out sounding more like a parent who means no, but doesn’t want to say it for fear of incurring a tantrum.

What the hell is wrong with me? I’m no Casanova, but I’m not a reclusive virgin, either. I usually have a pretty good dating life. I know how to flirt.

I pull out my phone. “What’s your number? I’ll text you.”

He rattles off the digits. I put them in my phone and then send him a text. The faint ding from his pocket tells me he got it.

The rest of the ride back to my resort is silent, and I’m pretty sure it’s my fault. Our conversation over dinner was so easy and fun—but my stupid failed attempt to be flirty seems to have killed the vibe. Is he regretting the whole thing? Wondering how he can get out of our date on Thursday?

He turns off the road onto the driveway of the resort, but instead of pulling up to the entrance, he takes the road that loops around the property to the four parking lots and the three other shuttle stops.

“Where—” I begin, but he interrupts me.

“Which is the closest parking lot to your room?”

Oh. He’s being thoughtful and saving me the seven-minute (no, I didn’t time it—the receptionist told me when I checked in) walk from the main building to the building that houses my room.

“The west one,” I tell him, and then we both fall silent again as he skilfully navigates along the deserted, mostly dark road. I rack my brain for something to say. How did this happen? Twenty minutes ago I was one half of an interesting, fun conversation. How did we go from that to awkward silence?

It has to be the idea of dating that’s turned us into mere acquaintances with little in common. Right? Until he confirmed that we were on a date, and I asked him on another one, everything was fine. After that, it all went downhill.

Wait… he knew all along that we were on a date. I was the one who wasn’t sure what he thought it was. Does that mean this is all me? Am I the reason for the awkwardness?

I’m saved from further introspection (although I suspect it’s going to keep me up most of the night) when Derek pulls into the west parking lot and finds a spot at the far end. The lot is pretty well-lit, but back in this corner there are more shadows.

I undo my seat belt. I’m almost desperate to get out of the car and away from this tension, but at the same time, I’m terrified that if I leave it like this, I’m going to get a text from Derek, canceling our date. What can I say to make it all better?

Derek’s hand on my face makes me jump.

“Whoa! Sorry, I didn’t mean….” He starts to pull away, but I grab his hand and hold it against my cheek. I like having him touch me.

Is this weird? Maybe he was just trying to get my attention and didn’t actually want to hold my face.

I drop my hand to my lap, giving him the opportunity to pull back. My face is hot, and I’m thankful for the dim light. He can probably still see that I’m blushing, but not exactly how red I am.

His fingers lightly stroke my cheek.

My breath stutters. I slowly turn to him. His face is closer than I expected, and there’s a soft smile on his lips. Even in the dimness of the car, I can see how warm the expression in his eyes is.

I swallow. His smile grows.

“I love when you blush,” he says. “It’s so—”

“Sweet?” I interrupt acidly. He shakes his head.

“Hot.” The word sits between us. Hot? Does he mean literally? Because, yeah, my skin gets hot when I—

Derek leans in and kisses me, and I get it. Hot. Derek thinks it’s hot when I blush. Really?

Also, man can he kiss.

I gotta be honest, the next few minutes kind of blur out. I’m too focused on Derek’s mouth on mine, his hands, his body—because my hands get busy too. The only words I can actually think are adjectives: warm, hard, wet, silky….

I’ve got my hands in his pants (and can I just say wow?) when it finally occurs to me that as cushy as Derek’s car is, it’s not roomy enough for us to fuck—well, not comfortably. I jerk back from his kiss. “Not here,” I pant. Crap, Kev’s likely to be back at our room by now. He was saying earlier that he was exhausted, not having had a day off, and wanted an early night. “Your place?” He’s gotta live in Joyville, right? That’s what, half an hour away?

Maybe we can get a room. We’re at a resort. I’m sure he gets an employee discount here too.

Derek sighs and pulls back, stroking my chest under my polo one last time before drawing his hand out. I miss it instantly.

I really enjoyed this. Having a book set in a place that looks very much like I’d imagine the World of Mouse in Orlando looks was a very different feel, not something you read about often.

Poor Derek, talk about a bad day in what is supposed to be the happiest place on earth. Not just a dead body, but a murder, along with a “little snafu” with his performers made for him having to use all his skills to keep the park running like the well oiled machine he had made it.

Meanwhile, Trav immediately didn’t like Derek, which just made Derek that much more confused because everyone LOVES Derek. So, finding out not only why Trav didn’t like Derek, but also the deeper reason why he didn’t like him made for great reading.

Everything was solved pretty satisfactorily, which I originally wasn’t sure would happen. The author did a great job of completing the story circle. And I am definitely looking forward to the next in this series.

Louisa Masters started reading romance much earlier than her mother thought she should. While other teenagers were sneaking out of the house, Louisa was sneaking romance novels in and working out how to read them without being discovered. She’s spent most of her life feeling sorry for people who don’t read, convinced that books are the solution to every problem. As an adult, she feeds her addiction in every spare second, only occasionally tearing herself away to do things like answer the phone and pay bills. She spent years trying to build a “sensible” career, working in bookstores, recruitment, resource management, administration, and as a travel agent, before finally conceding defeat and devoting herself to the world of romance novels.

Louisa has a long list of places first discovered in books that she wants to visit, and every so often she overcomes her loathing of jet lag and takes a trip that charges her imagination. She lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she whines about the weather for most of the year while secretly admitting she’ll probably never move.

A light tap caught my attention, and I looked up to see Tony and Snow standing there. Snow, ever his curious self, was looking up, down, and around, absorbing it all, never to forget.

“Thank you, Tony, I’d like to speak with Snow alone, and then perhaps, if he has further questions pertaining to security and what you know, the two of you can talk later.”

“Okay, holler if you need me.” He smiled at Snow who nodded, and then left the room.

It wasn’t so much an uncomfortable silence as it was worrisome. Snow wasn’t a quiet person. He spoke up for everything he believed in, and on many occasions, gave me a good tongue lashing. To see him walking through my office and not making eye contact with me was jarring.

“Snow?” He jumped when I spoke but turned my way. “Would you like a drink?”

He chuckled, but it held very little humor. “What’s the strongest thing you’ve got?”

Ahh, so he was having trouble with all this. Understandable. I walked over to the small cart with some beverages and poured us each a Jack and ginger ale. I knew he didn’t like drinking because of his father, but he wasn’t kidding that he wanted a drink.

“Thanks,” he said as he took the drink and sipped it. “So, this is really weird.”

I couldn’t argue with that. “Did you read my note?”

He rolled his eyes at my obviously stupid question. “I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t. You have Jason Momoa over there come to my house, tell me he can’t say much but to read this thing and to follow him. You’re lucky Christopher wasn’t home, or Bill for that matter, or I wouldn’t have been able to sweet talk Donny into trusting my life choices and going with Aquaman.”

Ahh! It’s over!

I’ve been pretty hooked on this series. To be honest, I was a wee bit apprehensive at first because it was a first time author who I “know” online as a fan. We all think we can write a book! Well, she really can write a book.

Don’t bother reading this book unless you read the first 5. Seriously.

Over the course of 5 books we have met some interesting characters. A mob boss, the owner of an assassin agency, many of their employees and Poe. The keeper of the secrets. He is the “spokesperson” for the Hart family heir. The Hart family who built the town of Haven Hart. They gathered all of the info, all of the secrets on people of the town and locked them away in a vault. To say the family was powerful is an understatement. But their heir is never seen. On page or off. It is all Poe. And because of that- WE ALL WANTED TO KNOW!

So much speculation! It was actually pretty fun reading online. And let me say, the big reveal was not a disappointment at all. You could tell that this wasn’t just a “omg I better think of someone/something fast” character. This had been building from the beginning.

Now, I can’t even say much about the story because I cannot and will not spoil!

I will say this, over the course of this book, all of the questions are answered, all of the loose ends are tied up and we touch base with every character we’ve met previously. And it is very satisfying.

Best Man by Lily Morton: Release Blitz, Excerpt and New Release Review

October 3, 2019 by Denise

Zeb Evans doesn’t do messy.

The product of a disorganised and chaotic childhood, Zeb likes order and control, and as the boss of his own employment agency he can give that to himself. Life runs along strict lines and he never mixes business with pleasure. Everything in his life lives in neat, alphabetized boxes. Until Jesse.

Jesse Reed is Zeb’s complete opposite. He’s chaos personified. A whirling cyclone of disorder. He’s also charming and funny and a very unwanted distraction.

Which is why it comes as a complete surprise to Zeb to find himself asking Jesse to pose as his boyfriend for a few days in the country at a wedding.

Zeb doesn’t do impulsive, but as the time away progresses, he finds himself increasingly drawn to the merry and irreverent Jesse. But can he bring himself to break the hard-won lessons he’s learnt in life? And even if he can, how could Jesse be attracted to him anyway? He’s so much older than Jesse, not to mention being his boss.

From the bestselling author of the Mixed Messages and Finding Home series comes a warm and funny romance about one man’s fight for control and another man’s determination to circumvent it.

This is the first book in the Close Proximity series, but it can be read as a standalone.

He looks at me and sighs wearily. “Do you think you could possibly behave?” he finally says.

I bite my lip. “I don’t think it would be entirely honest of me to promise that,” I say slowly. “Especially if people keep treating you like you’re some sort of desperate stalker. It’s not fair.” I frown. “You’re doing bloody Patrick a favour. They should be thanking you, not treating you like an unexploded bomb from the war that might go off in suburbia and wreck someone’s lavender bush.”

He blinks. “Where the hell did that come from?” He pauses. “And why am I the unexploded relic from the war?”

I smile at him sympathetically. “You have a lot of pent-up aggression,” I inform him.

We first meet Jesse when he’s interviewing at an employment agency. He’s kind of a jack of all trades and a master of none, he can’t seem to keep himself out of trouble long enough to hold something down. That is until he meets Zeb, who lives with the tightest control on himself and his routine than anyone Jesse’s ever seen.

They’re complete opposites, but somehow, they work.
Cut to, three years later, where Jesse is thriving though thoroughly entertaining in the jobs he does and what can always be described as hilarious mishaps, though he’s completely charming and very well-liked with his clients.

When Zeb’s ex of five years is getting married to the woman he was cheating with only a year after they’ve split, he asks Zeb to be his best man and Zeb stupidly agrees. He needs a fake boyfriend/distraction for the weeklong activity schedule his exes fiancé has for them on the getaway they’re all going on together. Insane? ABSOLUTELY!

Now, once you get to know Zeb, you’ll understand a little about him that maybe let him say yes to the request of being the exes best man, but I didn’t buy it. Nothing would’ve made me take the abuse from the ex and their families, they not only openly treated Zeb like garbage, he just smiled and took it. They openly said awful things to him and treated him terribly, and he was just as nice and polite as could be. That part made me sick to my stomach, I HATE when bad people get away with being bad people.

Now, Jesse, even though Zeb wants to think of him as this young kid (20 years his junior), he gets to know Jesse on this week long trip together. They have fun together and Jesse is the only one who seems set to stand up for Zeb against this terrible, evil, entitled, foul-mouthed, bigoted family. He goes out of his way to put them off and show his support for Zeb, so it isn’t long before they fall into bed together.

Of course, it can’t be that easy… Zeb is still in a bad place, mentally… he’s still got his reasons of why he is the way he is and though Jesse realizes it, it isn’t enough to stop him from getting hurt by Zeb’s actions. And I don’t blame him…. I wanted to come through and knock Zeb out for the way he pushed Jesse away, not only that, but the way he picked the stupid ex and his wedding over Jesse and his feelings, when Jesse is the only one who’s ever been supportive of him and stuck up for him. My heart broke for Jesse and I thought he forgave Zeb far too easily. We had this angst the whole time and then it was like.. in a few paragraphs, all was forgiven. Blah.

Overall though, I enjoyed Jesse. He really is such a likeable character and was so very charming and witty. I liked him for Zeb, even though Zeb didn’t deserve him a lot of the time. I’m glad they got their HEA, though, I’m a sucker for those… and it was very entertaining, nonetheless.

Would love to see what happens between Felix and Zeb’s stepbrother… looking forward to that!

Life According To Liam by V.L. Locey: Blog Tour, Release Day Review and Giveaway

October 2, 2019 by Denise

There’s always that chance that your heart’s desire is one click away.

Someone needs to pinch web designer/humor blogger/Pittsburgh Ravens fan Mike Kneller. Hard. For years Mike has been living his life for his younger sister Kelly, and his four year old nephew, Liam. He’d opened up his home to Kelly when she found herself pregnant at sixteen and facing having a baby alone. Sure, his days are filled with skinned knees, snotty noses, and the occasional mishap with stuffed superheroes, but he’s perfectly happy because he loves Liam as much as he loves his baby sister. Giving up a social life and going to bed alone is a small price to pay. Little does he know that someone on the Ravens (his favorite hockey team) is about to show Bryn Mettler (his favorite goalie crush) one of his vlog posts. Of course he’s not going to believe it when his phone rings and the world famous netminder is on the other end talking about adorable kids, Mike’s beautiful green eyes, and a possible dinner date. I mean, life doesn’t work that way for ordinary, hardworking uncles like Mike. Does it?

Bryn Mettler is a superstar athlete and a major part of the Pittsburgh sports society. He seems to have it all. He’s well-dressed, handsome, wealthy, an elite goaltender, a famed philanthropist, and the holder of numerous medals and trophies. Two things that have avoided him to date are lifting that big shiny silver cup over his head and finding a man to settle down with. Now that he’s over thirty, Bryn is finding the gay club scene is wearing thin. His teammates wives have decided it’s their duty to the team – and to Bryn – to find him Mr. Right. He’s relatively sure that the man who’ll capture his heart surely won’t be found on a humor blog. Funny how life likes to take the things that you’re most certain about and flip them – and you – on its ear. Bryn is instantly drawn to the warm, funny, sexy man who shares his hectic days with thousands of Pittsburgh natives. Now he just has to convince Mike he is who he says he is so he can get to know him better. Thankfully, Bryn isn’t a quitter. But does he have what it takes to leap into life with Mike, Kelly, and Liam?

Bryn is said pro hockey player who’s friends and teammates wives all good-naturedly try to set him with cousins or friends that he’d just be great with. So far, it hasn’t worked out, but when one wife shows him Mike’s blogs and a video of Liam and Mike, he’s immediately smitten. After watching all their video’s and reading all their blogs, he leaves a comment and asks Mike to get ahold of him. As unlikely as I think this would be, both as someone who watched vlogs on youtube, but also just the meeting of a celebrity and a fan, it was just too easy for me to believe. I mean, I wish….

In saying that… another problem I had with Bryn especially, is that he’s supposed to be a professional sports player, but both he and Mike though really really, Bryn, their dialogue sounds as if they’re from the 1800’s. I’ve never heard anyone say “foist” so many times in my life. And Bryn longs for Mike a lot… I dunno, the dialogue just didn’t hit me as a professional sports player and a modern blogger, maybe two 70 year olds who’d weathered life and seen many different decades… it bothered me.

Other than that, there is no drama or angst, which I liked, there wasn’t any turmoil or breaking up or any disagreements at all, so I enjoyed watching these 30-year-old, old coots get to know each other and fall in love. It ended sweetly, though the 4-year old was sometimes 4 years old and other times seemed much older, so I think he was still 4 by the end… but cute nonetheless.

Amalgamated by Becca Seymour: Blog Tour, Excerpt, New Release Review *2, Giveaway

October 1, 2019 by Denise

After five years of living in the UK, it’s time for Leo to return home to his dad’s stud farm in outback Australia. He has no idea what to expect when he arrives. He didn’t exactly leave with balloons and banners.

Nope. His farewell involved destruction and his own heart split in two.

He knows seeing the man who’s always held his heart, Zak, is going to be awkward. The older farm manager made his feelings pretty damn clear when Leo hightailed it out of there.

Leo quickly figures out life is going to get complicated and a whole heap more exciting as his trip home becomes so much more.

Amalgamated is a fun and steamy M/M short story in Becca Seymour’s Coming Home series. Stand-alone romances complete with heat, wit, and happily ever afters.

Realigned (Coming Home #1) – FREE READ

“Promise you won’t be mad.”

Groaning, I shook my head. Any request starting that way was going to result in me being pissed off. “What did you do?”

This time her glance my way had me tensing. Concern flickered in her eyes. When she focused on the road ahead, she blew out her cheeks, her lips pursed. “We’re heading to mine.”

“Okay?” I dragged out the word. I’d figured that out since we weren’t heading towards Dad and Michelle’s.

“Dad kinda got excited about you coming home.”

My stomach dipped. I just knew where she was heading with this. Slamming my eyes shut, I waited for her next words.

They came out in a rush. “Sohekindainvitedaheapofpeopleover. But…” She gasped for breath. “…it’s not technically a party, as there aren’t banners or balloons.”

My eyes sprang open, and I stared at her wide-eyed.

She glanced at me, a mix of horror and amusement on her face. “You owe me big for talking him out of that.”

“Yet you couldn’t have talked him into a small family meal?”

She shrugged. “I did try, but, Leo.” She paused, emotion swirling in her eyes, and I swallowed. This was just one of the reasons I’d stayed away. Guilt still clawed at me whenever I gave it life. “Dad was so excited you were coming home. You know he still doesn’t understand why you left. If it had just been heading to the city, that would have been a struggle, but you travelled to the other side of the world.”

My gut clenched. I still felt shit for leaving my dad, but I had my own life to live, and taking over my dad’s stud farm wasn’t what I wanted. Plus there was the major screw-up with how I destroyed any semblance of a friendship with Zak.

“There’s more.”

I flashed Jen a resigned look.

“Dad obviously invited Zak.”

My heart seized, and my gut churned. This could not be happening. While I’d anticipated seeing him, I wasn’t prepared for it to be the first night I got home. In hindsight, this was ridiculously naïve of me, considering his place was only a hundred metres or so away from the main house on the property.

“I know, I know, but best to get the whole awkwardness out of the way, right?” She reached out and gave my hand a small squeeze. After I’d run out on Zak the night I’d left, it had taken just a handful of calls from Jen for her to recognize something was wrong and for me to spill my guts. We remained close, even with the distance of the past five years, and without her in my corner, life certainly would have been trickier.

“Yeah, I suppose.” There was something to be said for ripping the Band-Aid off, but my gut clenched in anticipation.

Unrequited love is the absolute worst. I can remember being fourteen and the new boy came to school and being the first person to see him, because I’d gotten sent out into the hallway for disrupting class. I was a talker that talked back when I called on it. It was sixth grade, what do you want from me?

Anyway… everyone had a crush on him, but he became my twin brothers best friend, which sparked the crush to end all crushes, I still act like a fan girl when he comes around and I’m pushin 35…. I’m not proud of it, but come on!

Anyway, much like Leo, I acted out my jealousy and if running away had been an option, I would’ve probably done that too. So, I can relate. When Leo told the man he’d grown up with that he had feelings for him, being rebuffed had him acting out in a big way before leaving home for the next five years and licking his wounds. Now, going back for a two week holiday, he plans to apologize for how he left things and hopefully make amends.

Zak has other plans though, not letting Leo take all the blame, sure he kind of overreacted just before he left by throwing a major hissy fit, but, Zak understood. He knew how Leo felt and for how long he’d felt it. But, being near on a decade older than Leo, I can understand his hesitation, not to mention how close Zak is to the family. It wasn’t something he could’ve just jumped into with a then 17-year-old Leo.

Fortunately, enough time has passed and Leo is home, so Zak goes about setting things right too. Because even though it wasn’t the right time way back when, Zak cared a lot about Leo and his feelings have only grown since he’s been away.

Ah, if only every unrequited story could end like that…not so unrequited after all.

I enjoyed reading about these two and it was sweet seeing them work everything out, especially because Leo’s family, namely his dad wanted him back home so bad. If you like second chancers, cute accents and quiet cowboys, you’ll adore this one.

4 Pieces of Eye Candy

Cute, quick read set in the Australian Outback.

I am not the biggest fan of shorts, but sometimes you want a quick read. This will fit the bill.

Leo goes home for the first time in five years and has to face his first crush, Zak. When his unrequited love is not returned, he destroys Zak’s most prized possession. So he also is returning home with his proverbial tail between his legs.

And even though the book was short, they still took the time to explain and talk and realize what was going on. THEN things got hot an heavy.

So if you have an hour to kill and don’t want to read anything heavy, this is for you.

Becca Seymour lives and breathes all things book related. Usually with at least three books being read and two WiPs being written at the same time, life is merrily hectic. She tends to do nothing by halves so happily seeks the craziness and busyness life offers.

Living on her small property in Queensland with her human family as well as her animal family of cows, chooks, and dogs, Becca appreciates the beauty of the world around her and is a believer that love truly is love.

Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
My reviewSuck by Cora Rose and EM LindseyI really wish we could do half stars because this was a solid 4 1/2 for me. And I am not one to read monster or alien books. I did read the first couple of chapters of this when the teaser was released and I couldn't wait for the whole story. It's a post pandemic world and Everest has lost his parents and is living with a very strict aunt and uncle. There are some time jumps which are done really well. From when he first lost his parents up to when he turns 18 and can move out and finally present day when he is 21 and can "do his duty". And I can't say a lot about that because I will be censored but see title and I'm sure you can figure it out.At first Everest was intrigued. And then a little freaked out. Then angry. But he still followed through with what Rathyn wanted. Which was him basically at his beck and call. They definitely developed a relationship that went far past their original agreement even though it wasn't explicitly allowed. Everest didn't really know that at first because the alien world was kept from humans for the most part. Very little was known and what was known, humans had to sign an NDA.The world building was really well done. Both on Earth and Erethar. Earth sounded so desolate after the last pandemic but Erethar sounded just beautiful. What kept that 1/2 a star from my rating? Two things. First, Everest basically abandons his best friend. Yes, he does call and see him after a while- but it is after some time. These guys were bff. Moving into an apartment together when they turned 18, hanging out together all of the time, etc. Didn't seem right. And even though Everest identified as straight at the beginning he moved right into being bi (or gay or pan or whatever just not straight) with Rathyn and didn't do any questioning of it. I know, monster alien but still. A little soul searching maybe. So yes, I thought it was a super fun read that was sexy and swoony and kept me turning the pages. Can't wait for book 2!4 1/2 pieces of eye candy ... See MoreSee Less

✨Let’s celebrate! It’s release day for SUCK, a MM Monster Romance by @authoremlindsey &@coraroseauthor! Grab it in KU!#OneClickNowmybook.to/feedandfeastbook1Why you need to #ONECLICK this book…🔥Monster/human🔥MM Romance🔥Hurt/Comfort🔥Sexual Awakening🔥Monster Peen🔥Opposites Attract🔥First Times🔥Lots of Sucking🔥Body Piercings🔥Monster World🔥Power Dynamics🔥High HeatWhen portals from another world split open the sky, humanity braces for war… only to discover the monsters from Erethar aren’t here to conquer. They need something from humans. Something oddly specific in order to survive. And that's when the government begins recruiting for a ritual that sounds a lot like a cross-dimensional booty call.Normally an exclusivity contract with a monster called Rathyn of the Dark Vale would be a hard pass, but the more time I spend with him, the more I realize there’s more to this whole monster/human thing than what the government is telling us.I want to believe it’s nothing more than an arrangement, but the way he melts under my touch, and the way he’s constantly seeking more, makes me believe that maybe his fate is wrapped up in my own. It’s no longer about what I can do for him. It's about what we mean to each other.I’m Everest Hale, and I’m doing my part to save the world with my… Well, I’m not at liberty to discuss, but let’s just say it’s given with vigorous enthusiasm. You’re welcome, Earth.Suck is the first book in the MM Monster Romance series Feed and Feast. It contains a clueless human who’s just looking to do his duty for humanity, a naïve monster who has no idea how much humanity will change him, so much sucking, swooning, antagonists to lovers, cuddling as a love language, body piercings, secret romance, and a toe-curling happily ever after.#newbookalert #corarose #emlindsey #monsterromance The Author Agency ... Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
✨EXCERPT: LICKED by @charlienwrites releasing May 12th!#PreOrderNowmybook.to/lickitoneThis was a date. A romantic date. One that I desperately wanted to go well. So well that Alfie might even be open to kissing me. That would be wonderful. I just couldn’t get my hopes up, because if it went badly, or even if there was no kissing, I’d be devastated. I tried to think about other things as I walked into town towards Vito’s, a small Italian restaurant in the middle of town where we’d agreed to go for dinner. I’d been there before quite a few times and always enjoyed the food, although it could get a little loud and overwhelming at the weekend when it was busy, simply due to the size of the space. But no matter what I tried to turn my thoughts to, they all came stubbornly back to Alfie and how I wanted tonight to go. Eventually I gave up trying to think of anything else, and instead let myself create a list of questions or talking points, just in case we ran out of things to say. Which seemed impossible considering how much we messaged, but it was always good to be prepared. When I rounded the corner to Vito’s, I stopped dead in my tracks, my eyes not fully processing what was in front of me. Alfie was stood just outside on the cobbles in a pair of cream trousers and a pale pink shirt, his honey-blond hair clearly styled… and a bouquet of deep red roses in his arms, wrapped in paper and tied with black ribbon. He looked so gorgeous it stole my breath, but the roses… I’d never had anyone bring me flowers before. #charlienovak #mmromance #kindleunlimited The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less
