Unbreakable (A Heaven and Hell Club Prequel) by Colette Davison: Release Day Blitz, Excerpt and Reviews

November 14, 2019 by Denise

Mac’s life isn’t perfect, but he likes it the way it is: safe and predictable.

Mac works in a struggling pole dancing club at night, and a gym during the day. He’s tired and cash strapped, but content, until a confident twink walks into the club and turns his life upside down. It’s hard to resist when Russel asks him to be his fake boyfriend for one night, in return for double his normal take-home pay.

One date turns into more, as Mac helps Russel get an exclusive that will secure him the job he’s always wanted. But the rich playboy who holds Russel’s career in his hands isn’t going to give him the scoop so easily.

As Mac and Russel spend more time together, the lines between fake and real begin to get blurred, but can their relationship become strong enough to be unbreakable in the face of adversity?

Unbreakable is a fake boyfriend MM romance, with a buff pole dancer who swears like a trooper, a twink who likes to take charge, some spanking, light bondage, and a happy ever after. It’s a prequel story to Broken, but can be read as a standalone romance.

The city centre was packed, and a steady stream of well-dressed shoppers moved in and out of the posh department store. Mac really didn’t belong there, let alone loitering outside it. He was about to give up and go home—he’d been waiting for almost half an hour—when Russel appeared out of the crowd and flounced up to him.

“You were early!”

Mac narrowed his eyes. “You’re late.”

Russel waved his hand. “Only by a few minutes.” His eyes travelled up and down Mac’s body, full lips pursed thoughtfully. “Are those the nicest clothes you’ve got?”

Mac looked down at his tatty jeans, threadbare coat, and death metal T-shirt. “What’s wrong with what I’m wearing?”

Russel nodded towards the doors to the store. “We might have a problem getting in there. Not to worry.” He looped his arm through Mac’s. “There are plenty of other shops in Leeds. This way.”

Mac opened his mouth to object but snapped it shut again.

“I thought we’d do a bit of shopping and then grab a coffee somewhere,” Russel said. “We need to get a few facts straight before this evening.”

“What facts?”

“How long we’ve been together, what star sign we both are, favourite colours, hobbies… that sort of thing.”

“Is that really necessary?”

“Yes!”

Mac shook his head. Russel probably wasn’t a psycho, but he was a demanding son of a bitch. There was no way he was going to remember those kinds of stupid details about a fucking stranger. He kept his thoughts to himself. Russel was paying him, and that was all that mattered.

I read and reviewed Broken by this author and being that this was a prequel to that, I definitely wanted to read it. Honestly, I wish I had read this first and then Broken. Or this, then another book with Michael and Edward as the main characters and then Broken.

As a cute, fake boyfriend story, it was highly readable. But at the same time, Broken was so angsty and I knew what was coming, it kind of took away a little bit from me. Not a ton because the focus is on different couples, but still.

Overall, Mac and Russel were pretty adorable together, even though Russel was almost a caricature of a stereotypical flamboyant gay man . And once they got down to it, they lit my kindle on fire. But there was a lot of repetitive language used to seemingly fill up the pages. And the resolution of the biggest plot point in the book was completely anti climatic and sort of an after thought.

It’s cute, sexy, but fluffy. If you haven’t read Broken yet, definitely read this one first so you don’t have that cloud lingering that you know what is coming.

3 Pieces of Candy

Okay, so this is a prequel and there is already one established couple so I’m not sure if I missed any other stories in the series so far, but if I did, it didn’t feel like it. So, Mac is a dancer at a club, though I honestly don’t remember what it’s called, but, he works with two close friends/chosen family, Edward and Michael. They’re the already established couple and remember them because they’re the ones who have plans for the Heaven and Hell club… the place now, is a seedy little place where customers aren’t what they once were and their owner/boss is greedy and lazy and just not a nice guy. It seems jerks who get away with being jerks is a thing in stories I’m reading lately… but anyway…. It’s just another night on the grind when Russel walks in in all his beautiful glory and Mac is intrigued but the pair of them are so different. Color him surprised when Russel propositions him but it’s not the type he’s used to.

Russel is the “layout guy” but what he really wants to do is become a journalist. When he gets an opportunity to write a piece for one of the most fashionable bachelors, he thinks his luck is about to change when his boss gives him a chance to cover it. Never mind he’s only doing it because Russel is gay and so is Remy, the bachelor in question, but he doesn’t look the gift horse in the mouth and takes the job, with the stipulation that it’s a couple’s party, even though Remy is very single. After trying his few friends to pose as his boyfriend, someone suggests Mac and it’s not such a bad idea, right?

Playing a fake boyfriend never works out according to plan.. We already knew that these two were going to fall in love and why wouldn’t they? They’re adorable together and I loved how loyal they were to one another. When the fake part goes out the window, I adored them together. Russel is so confident and sassy that I’m surprised he ever lets anyone get anything on over him and Mac is strong yet vuernerable and I love love love that stereotypes are thrown out the window in this one. Just because Mac is the muscled up, broody guy, doesn’t make him a top… he’s actually almost strictly bottom and not only that, he likes to be dominated…. Or maybe not dominated, as it isn’t that dark… but maybe controlled a bit, though only by Russel. He trusted him from the get go and I liked that…. And just because Russel is a makeup wearing ball of sass, doesn’t mean he’ll take crap from anyone… he surely doesn’t and he knows just what Mac needs to make him crazy for him. It was hot. I liked that neither of them were what I was expecting.

What I hate more than anything, though, and you’ll know it, if you’ve read any of my reviews….ever.. is that I’m way too petty and callous to not want retribution against someone who has wronged me. It’s the type of person I am. I hate when people get taken advantage of, I hate manipulators and I despise when people get away with being jerks. Entitled A-holes and this sstory is full of them.

Remy, who you’ll realize pretty early on is the most manipulative and the story mainly focuses on him and what he tries to do to the couple, and honestly, I cannot believe people act like him, he’s the epitome of SPOILED, entitled and bratty… it’s almost laughable how bratty and immature, but I hated him immediately and really really hated him by the end, though I’m glad he somewhat got put in his place. What I hated, is that both of their bosses, the greedy pos and then Russel’s boss, who was so immorally disgusting, the way spoke to Russel and the situations he put him in were absolutely unethical and he should’ve lost his job at the very least. I hated that he screwed over Russel and just gets to go about his way being an awful fake human being. I wished for karmic justice on him too….

BUT, I’ll digress, because it could just be my mood and the fact that I’ve read just jerky characters lately, but the overall love story between Mac and Russel, I loved…which is the point, here LOL
I loved their friendships that they had, that hopefully you’ll see more of in the series… I loved their loyalty to one another and the trust they had in each other. I loved seeing them fall in love with other, when their start was less than ideal and a little cliché, and I loved how things ended for the both of them and they got such a sweet happy ending. I’m not sure I’ll read anymore from the series, but it is very well written and worth the read.

November 1, 2019 by Denise

Following the tragic death of his sister and her husband two years earlier, Ollie became the legal guardian of their two young sons—much to the horror of the boys’ conservative grandparents. Until he meets reserved but caring teacher, Joel Morgan.

As the only two men in the school’s Parent-Teacher Association, Joel and Ollie are thrown together over a series of fundraising events and somewhere between the Beach Fun Run and the Christmas Market they fall in love. So, I’m comin into this one late, but I saw single dad and of course I jumped at it. I haven’t read the other two in the series first. I should probably do that, but only because I wanna see how the others got together, it didn’t take me away from the story at all.

In this one, we have Ollie, who fought hard for custody of his niece and nephew after the death of his sister and brother-in-law. Fighting his conservative brother-in-laws parents was hard, but he’s determined to prove to everyone that he can be what the kids need him to be, even if it is proving harder than he’d ever thought possible. He’s kind of faking it until he makes it, which is hard to do since he’d had to give up his schooling, an internship and basically his life to take on two kids. He does it though, without complaint because he loves the two and five year old more than anything. Moving to the area, he hoped to connect with a long-lost-brother that had no idea he existed, he didn’t realize he’d meet a guy and fall for him too.

Joel is a teacher at the school where Ollie’s five year old nephew goes. He, along with Ollie get roped into the PTA and it’s there where they get to know each other. Joel is single, bi, though definitely not out at school, which makes his attraction to Ollie something he fears, especially after being royally screwed over by his wife some years ago. He’s not gotten over it and though I do think he goes a bit overboard with his overreactions sometimes, I know how long a bad relationship, deception and betrayal can have an effect on a person. I’ve lived it, myself. So, where I can see where he’s coming from a bit, my heart did hurt for Ollie because I can’t imagine how it would be for him.

So, things are rocky and Joel needs his relationship to stay a secret and Ollie is doing everything he can to keep the kids happy and healthy and together, sometimes getting by, by the skin of his teeth, and all the while, he tries to not fall for Joel, while Joel works on and fails more often than not, tries to learn to trust again. It’s a bumpy road, a slow burn and it takes a while to get there…but they do alright in the end. Nothing worth having is easy, right?

This was a very sweet story and I adored both Joel and Ollie by the end, I really can’t wait to go back and read Theo and Luca’s story, and hopefully the mechanic guy and his bookish fiancé have a story too. Can’t wait to see!

Dog Tagged by James Brock: Exclusive Excerpt, New Release Review and Giveaway

October 7, 2019 by Denise

Drill instructor Sergeant Clay Norris has his hands full. Between new recruits and a Senior Drill Sergeant with an attitude hanging over him, the last thing he needs is to develop a crush on one of his trainees, but Private Chevy “Banksy” Banks is an Adonis he is unable to resist. A natural leader, the young man draws the other troops in with his easy manner and warm-as-the-Sun smile, a combination that melts the trying-to-sound-tough young Drill Sergeant.

When the Senior Drill manages to tear the two men apart before anything beyond fantasies and longing glances can happen, Clay tries to move on and forget Banksy, throwing himself into his career, knowing that he may have to wait until he retires from the military to be able to partner up, while understanding the irony that he is defending a freedom he is not yet allowed, the freedom to be who he is and to pursue the person he loves.

Fate brings Clay and Banksy together again for a brief and joyous reunion when they are able to begin planning a future, that same fate cruelly ripping them apart once more, with each facing a trauma alone.

Dog Tagged is set post DADT (Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell) and pre the policy’s repeal; a time when being openly gay had seen many a lost career in the service. Sexually explicit in places, this story offers only a glimpse of how some men and women serving their country are not afforded the same rights as the heterosexuals with whom they fight side by side.

“We need service from the hottest clerk in the place,” I jauntily bellowed, loud enough to be heard over the pulsing music blasting from the sound system as we swung up to the counter.

Well I was more drunk than jaunty and holding the blond (who must have had a name other than ohfuckyeah, which is what I had been calling him the last few days) so tightly it was as if we were one unit.  Truthfully I doubt I could have stood alone without some serious swaying going on.

Evan, hot as ever, came out of the back room, smiling wide he when he saw me and dropping the bundle of clothing in his arms, running across the room and into a hug with me, ignoring the blond.

“You Jerk!”  he yelped, tightening his arms constrictor like until my breath was nearly gone.

Lucking I was mostly operating on liquor by then, air had become somewhat secondary.  “I’ve been checking my phone fifteen times an hour waiting for an update!  Where’s Chevy?”  his ability to ignore the blond hanging on my left side made me wonder if he had lost use of some of his vision.  “And, um, seems like you have been celebrating something…,” he said with a sniff toward my liquor-soaked body then let his eyes trail up and down my frame before finally cutting them to the guy I was with.  “Is it a career change, have you left the Army and taken up stripping?”  he finished while looking up and down my outfit of cut off jeans and a far too tight tank top stretched over my torso.

“Nope, but yup on the celebrating!  Did my tour and heading back for another so we are gonna keep our party going and YOU,” I said with a jab as his chest while hooking a finger down into the deep vee neck of the tee shirt he wore, “have to come have fun with us!”  My finger lingering on the smooth skin of his chest as I felt my cock thicken.

For the second time that day I was not thinking of Chevy.

Smiling in a very controlled way Evan took step back.

“And you might very well be invited back to Caesar’s-own-Fucking-Palace-Hotel where I have a fucking room with a fucking Jacuzzi tub….,”  I slurred with a leer as the blond humped my leg and Evan carefully kept out of the range of the finger I was desperately trying to snag his tee shirt with again.

“How about,” Evan countered, smile brightening while he took another careful step back to stay out of my range, “we go have some dinner, my treat, as a welcome home?”

“How about we drink some dinner, let’s go paaaaaaarrrrrttyy, ‘m man!”  I yelped back, thinking myself so clever and so genuinely glad to see him.  Reaching back out I stroked a finger down the center of his chest again.  If I had done that the first time I met him in the shop he would have drug me into the back room and thrown me down on the floor and ridden me like a circus pony.

“I’m really sorry, could you excuse us?”  Evan said to my “date” while forcing his fingers down into the pocket of his jeans and bringing out a crumpled twenty-dollar bill.  He thrust it at the young man attached to me like a barnacle.  “Why don’t you go over there,” he pointed to one of the many, many frozen beverage stands the city has to offer a thirsty guy with a healthy libido, “and have one on me.  We won’t be long.”

The blond snatched the bill and turned before Evan finished speaking.

Clearly money talks in that town as the guy who had been my rock, my shoulder, my friend the last few days turned away from me without a look back, making a beeline for the adult Slushee stand.

“God it’s good to see you,” I said, not noticing or caring that the man attached to me a second ago had left as quickly as a witch in Oz as I pulled Evan in for another hug.  I’d had many arms around me in the last two weeks but this was the first real set of arms, arms that cared as it were, since Chevy had pushed me away.

Seeing Evan brought a wave of memory about Chevy to the forefront of my mind, which I pushed away as quickly by glancing over at the back of the blond who was already sipping a neon colored drink and openly flirting with the hot guy behind the counter.  There was no passion in his eyes, no warmth in his smile and no wings inked across his scrawny chest but he was there, which was all that mattered now.  I might have to pull him off the guy he was drinking with but that was of small matter to me then.

“It’s great to see you too, Clay, but what the fuck is going on?  You don’t live here so you don’t know the skank you have hooked up with.  I hope you are being safe because that one,” he said with a nod of his head toward the adult Slurpee sipping blond, “has a tenth-visit-free punch card at the free health clinic.  There aren’t many gay clubs here, so the locals get to know each other.  To be blunt and kind that one,” he said with another nod toward my date who was now stroking a finger along the arm of the server at the adult Slushee stand, “is one of the many guys who live off the kindness of strangers with his body.  He doesn’t have a job other than picking up men in bars and telling them they have pretty eyes before asking them what they have in their refrigerator.  He is one of more than a few around here who are way too long in the tooth to still be trying that act.  He’s a sad case now and his story is going to end up tragic.”

I knew Evan was being honest and probably speaking the truth, but I just wanted to forget.

Chevy had told me he did not want to be the charity case of anyone so by the Gods I would not be a savior the anyone.  If I could not save Chevy Banks what did I care for the outcome of a blond whose name I could not remember?

This one was a hard one for me to read. Lots of sex with others outside the main couple and call me old fashioned or bitter either one, but I just don’t like that. It was hot and smutty, sure, but I’m a sucker for a one and only…I don’t wanna read about how much you love somebody but sleep with other people. Even if the circumstances forced it to be that way. I get where they were coming from, forced apart by a homophobic higher up and one outranking the other making it impossible for them to have anything, I get it… but as long as DADT was a thing and everything had to be done in secret anyway, why not? I dunno…. And then later when you get pushed away and don’t fight for him, I mean, yeah… sure. I guess.

I just couldn’t get past it.

I know life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows with happily ever afters and lovers that don’t cheat and wars don’t kill innocent people and all that, but I just don’t want to read about those lol I get enough bad news in real life.

If you like loads of army talk, cringy dirty talk, closeted homophobes that literally get away with ruining people’s lives and hookups with others outside the one you claim to love, then this might be the book for you. It just was not for me.

2 pieces of eye candy from me because at least they ended up together.

Closing his eyes for a moment, Wesley mentally chastised himself. This whole plan had been insane. Following Nathan into the gym only to trap himself? Freaking brilliant.  At least he knew if the B and B thing didn’t work out, his future was not in private investigation.

Wesley hid among the lockers for what felt like a long time, listening to some low conversations, though none were Nathan’s voice. A couple of lockers slammed shut, and it sounded like people were heading for the shower. When it grew quiet, Wesley released the breath he’d been holding for far too long. He sneaked out from the last row of lockers, aiming to make a beeline straight to the exit and back to Wilton Cottage.

Except Nathan was waiting for him, leaning against the lockers.

In a towel.

They were alone in the locker room.

“You positively suck at being inconspicuous, do you know that? That bright shirt can be seen a mile away.” Nathan chuckled and crossed his arms over his wide, bare chest.

The towel slipped an inch lower, and all Wesley could do was stare at the light-brown happy trail below his navel and wonder how it would feel under his tongue. He could drop to his knees and tug that towel off, wouldn’t take much to dislodge it…

“Blake!”

He blinked up to find Nathan’s eyes narrowed as he stared at him. Heat crept up his neck, and he worked to remember why he was there. Hell, he could barely remember his name right then. His gaze slipped down that muscular chest again. He couldn’t help himself. Damn, but Nathan Randall was built. A lot more than he’d expected. Those damn suits hid all the good stuff.

“Are you even capable of conversation right now?”

“Hmm?” Had that towel moved when his abs contracted?

The soft laugh that met his ears did little to pull him out of his stupor. Had his mouth been dry before? Because now it was watering something fierce.

Nathan stepped closer and lifted his chin with warm fingers. “There’s an…interesting scent coming from you.”

That slammed Wesley right back down to earth. “I stepped in dog shit.” The humor of the situation got to him all of a sudden and he snorted.

Nathan grinned and Wesley was stunned at how such a little thing could transform Nathan’s entire demeanor. Had he really never seen Nathan smile at him? Well, he was sure he had, but there had always been a look of calculation in his eyes. Like he hadn’t really felt the warm emotion that went with the smile. He’d only done it to put Wesley at ease. But this time, the grin was matched with amusement in his eyes and those adorable little crinkles that stretched out from the corners. “It’s not a pleasant smell,” Nathan murmured.

“I promise, I usually smell better.”

“I’m aware.”

Wesley and Nathan, they were a little slow going for me at first, even though I am kind of a sucker for enemies to lovers. I’ve been so ready for Wesley’s story, I just knew he was going to be so sweet.

So, in this one, we have Nathan, a hotel developer who is set to stop at nothing to get Wesley, the owner of a quaint little homey, B&B in Pineapple Grove, right on the ocean. Where the B&B is a place where Wesley spent years transforming it into the perfect place for the members of his community to come and feel at home and welcome, Nathan’s idea to tear down the building and put in a newer and fancier hotel and his “dream” was built on revenge because of his own childhood in the community.

Now, don’t get me wrong… did I see where he was coming from? Absolutely! He had a terrible childhood because of his father and he wanted to show everyone who ever ignored his need for help as a child, that he wasn’t someone to discarded as trashy or unworthy, so what better way to show them, than showing them his success…. But, his dream seemed kind of immature, especially when he started having feelings for Wesley.

And I cannot lie, their back and forth, in the beginning, was a little bit repetitive, the first half of the book was just Wesley snarking at Nathan about wanting to tear his place down… I mean, it was sometimes cute and he got a couple of good digs in, but it was mostly the same thing over and over but at the same time, he was having feelings for Nathan and Nathan for him. When they decided to let their guards down though, I enjoyed them together, especially when Wesley was the type Nathan had needed as a kid and it was impossible to see that he loved and cared about his community so much, oftentimes more than himself. I loved that about him and I loved watching Wesley start falling for that part of him because it felt so important.

Anyway… I don’t wanna give the whole thing away, but there are some bumps and bruises along the way, but if you adore anything this duo writes together, you’ll love one just the same. It’s a nice change of pace from the guns and action sequences I swear that I can see in my head, and it’s sweet and sometimes sappy and I loved every second of it.
Another hit in a pretty awesome series and I cannot wait to see what’s in store for Lincoln and Jamison!!

October 3, 2019 by Denise

Zeb Evans doesn’t do messy.

The product of a disorganised and chaotic childhood, Zeb likes order and control, and as the boss of his own employment agency he can give that to himself. Life runs along strict lines and he never mixes business with pleasure. Everything in his life lives in neat, alphabetized boxes. Until Jesse.

Jesse Reed is Zeb’s complete opposite. He’s chaos personified. A whirling cyclone of disorder. He’s also charming and funny and a very unwanted distraction.

Which is why it comes as a complete surprise to Zeb to find himself asking Jesse to pose as his boyfriend for a few days in the country at a wedding.

Zeb doesn’t do impulsive, but as the time away progresses, he finds himself increasingly drawn to the merry and irreverent Jesse. But can he bring himself to break the hard-won lessons he’s learnt in life? And even if he can, how could Jesse be attracted to him anyway? He’s so much older than Jesse, not to mention being his boss.

From the bestselling author of the Mixed Messages and Finding Home series comes a warm and funny romance about one man’s fight for control and another man’s determination to circumvent it.

This is the first book in the Close Proximity series, but it can be read as a standalone.

I bite my lip. “I don’t think it would be entirely honest of me to promise that,” I say slowly. “Especially if people keep treating you like you’re some sort of desperate stalker. It’s not fair.” I frown. “You’re doing bloody Patrick a favour. They should be thanking you, not treating you like an unexploded bomb from the war that might go off in suburbia and wreck someone’s lavender bush.”

He blinks. “Where the hell did that come from?” He pauses. “And why am I the unexploded relic from the war?”

I smile at him sympathetically. “You have a lot of pent-up aggression,” I inform him.

We first meet Jesse when he’s interviewing at an employment agency. He’s kind of a jack of all trades and a master of none, he can’t seem to keep himself out of trouble long enough to hold something down. That is until he meets Zeb, who lives with the tightest control on himself and his routine than anyone Jesse’s ever seen.

They’re complete opposites, but somehow, they work.
Cut to, three years later, where Jesse is thriving though thoroughly entertaining in the jobs he does and what can always be described as hilarious mishaps, though he’s completely charming and very well-liked with his clients.

When Zeb’s ex of five years is getting married to the woman he was cheating with only a year after they’ve split, he asks Zeb to be his best man and Zeb stupidly agrees. He needs a fake boyfriend/distraction for the weeklong activity schedule his exes fiancé has for them on the getaway they’re all going on together. Insane? ABSOLUTELY!

Now, once you get to know Zeb, you’ll understand a little about him that maybe let him say yes to the request of being the exes best man, but I didn’t buy it. Nothing would’ve made me take the abuse from the ex and their families, they not only openly treated Zeb like garbage, he just smiled and took it. They openly said awful things to him and treated him terribly, and he was just as nice and polite as could be. That part made me sick to my stomach, I HATE when bad people get away with being bad people.

Now, Jesse, even though Zeb wants to think of him as this young kid (20 years his junior), he gets to know Jesse on this week long trip together. They have fun together and Jesse is the only one who seems set to stand up for Zeb against this terrible, evil, entitled, foul-mouthed, bigoted family. He goes out of his way to put them off and show his support for Zeb, so it isn’t long before they fall into bed together.

Of course, it can’t be that easy… Zeb is still in a bad place, mentally… he’s still got his reasons of why he is the way he is and though Jesse realizes it, it isn’t enough to stop him from getting hurt by Zeb’s actions. And I don’t blame him…. I wanted to come through and knock Zeb out for the way he pushed Jesse away, not only that, but the way he picked the stupid ex and his wedding over Jesse and his feelings, when Jesse is the only one who’s ever been supportive of him and stuck up for him. My heart broke for Jesse and I thought he forgave Zeb far too easily. We had this angst the whole time and then it was like.. in a few paragraphs, all was forgiven. Blah.

Overall though, I enjoyed Jesse. He really is such a likeable character and was so very charming and witty. I liked him for Zeb, even though Zeb didn’t deserve him a lot of the time. I’m glad they got their HEA, though, I’m a sucker for those… and it was very entertaining, nonetheless.

Would love to see what happens between Felix and Zeb’s stepbrother… looking forward to that!

Life According To Liam by V.L. Locey: Blog Tour, Release Day Review and Giveaway

October 2, 2019 by Denise

There’s always that chance that your heart’s desire is one click away.

Someone needs to pinch web designer/humor blogger/Pittsburgh Ravens fan Mike Kneller. Hard. For years Mike has been living his life for his younger sister Kelly, and his four year old nephew, Liam. He’d opened up his home to Kelly when she found herself pregnant at sixteen and facing having a baby alone. Sure, his days are filled with skinned knees, snotty noses, and the occasional mishap with stuffed superheroes, but he’s perfectly happy because he loves Liam as much as he loves his baby sister. Giving up a social life and going to bed alone is a small price to pay. Little does he know that someone on the Ravens (his favorite hockey team) is about to show Bryn Mettler (his favorite goalie crush) one of his vlog posts. Of course he’s not going to believe it when his phone rings and the world famous netminder is on the other end talking about adorable kids, Mike’s beautiful green eyes, and a possible dinner date. I mean, life doesn’t work that way for ordinary, hardworking uncles like Mike. Does it?

Bryn Mettler is a superstar athlete and a major part of the Pittsburgh sports society. He seems to have it all. He’s well-dressed, handsome, wealthy, an elite goaltender, a famed philanthropist, and the holder of numerous medals and trophies. Two things that have avoided him to date are lifting that big shiny silver cup over his head and finding a man to settle down with. Now that he’s over thirty, Bryn is finding the gay club scene is wearing thin. His teammates wives have decided it’s their duty to the team – and to Bryn – to find him Mr. Right. He’s relatively sure that the man who’ll capture his heart surely won’t be found on a humor blog. Funny how life likes to take the things that you’re most certain about and flip them – and you – on its ear. Bryn is instantly drawn to the warm, funny, sexy man who shares his hectic days with thousands of Pittsburgh natives. Now he just has to convince Mike he is who he says he is so he can get to know him better. Thankfully, Bryn isn’t a quitter. But does he have what it takes to leap into life with Mike, Kelly, and Liam?

Alright, so it’s no secret, I love a story about a single dad and/or Uncleor big brother or anyone who cares for a child. There’s just something about a hot guy who’s good with kids or animals, I just can’t resist them. In this one, we have Mike, who’s single and helps take care of his 4-year-old nephew after his sister gets kicked out of their parents’ house for getting pregnant as a teenager, just as he got kicked out when he came out.

He plans his life around his nephew Liam and has even developed a blog about his life according to Liam. It’s cute and anyone with kids knows the shenanigans one can get up to with a toddler, so that’s where Bryn finds him. One thing standing out, Liam’s obsessed with local hockey legend, Bryn whatever his last name is and Mike is too!

Bryn is said pro hockey player who’s friends and teammates wives all good-naturedly try to set him with cousins or friends that he’d just be great with. So far, it hasn’t worked out, but when one wife shows him Mike’s blogs and a video of Liam and Mike, he’s immediately smitten. After watching all their video’s and reading all their blogs, he leaves a comment and asks Mike to get ahold of him. As unlikely as I think this would be, both as someone who watched vlogs on youtube, but also just the meeting of a celebrity and a fan, it was just too easy for me to believe. I mean, I wish….

In saying that… another problem I had with Bryn especially, is that he’s supposed to be a professional sports player, but both he and Mike though really really, Bryn, their dialogue sounds as if they’re from the 1800’s. I’ve never heard anyone say “foist” so many times in my life. And Bryn longs for Mike a lot… I dunno, the dialogue just didn’t hit me as a professional sports player and a modern blogger, maybe two 70 year olds who’d weathered life and seen many different decades… it bothered me.

Other than that, there is no drama or angst, which I liked, there wasn’t any turmoil or breaking up or any disagreements at all, so I enjoyed watching these 30-year-old, old coots get to know each other and fall in love. It ended sweetly, though the 4-year old was sometimes 4 years old and other times seemed much older, so I think he was still 4 by the end… but cute nonetheless.

Whit by Cora RoseNew release and review!Whit by Cora Rose was my first book by her and I believe her first book. And I was really impressed. It's not easy to find a first book that I don't nit pick. But I really enjoyed it and she has been quite the prolific writer since.Caleb is the same story told from Whit's point of view. (Whit was Caleb's point of view)This is a good young adult (21ish) romance, opposites attract, gay for you, rich boy/poor boy...all the tropes. It was fun to read the story from Whit's POV. How he was really feeling about Caleb, about meeting family, about dealing with his own family, etc. And to hear how dirty his mind really was since he's so buttoned up (figuratively) to the world.I loved seeing Caleb's family just immediately accept him as part of the family. Jokes, hugs and all.If you enjoyed Whit, you'll enjoy Caleb. Same story, different perspectives.Do I need all of her books to have this companion piece? Nah. But I'm glad I revisited these guys.4 Pieces of Eye Candy ... See MoreSee Less

✨EXCERPT: CALEB by @coraroseauthor releasing April 24th! #PreOrderNowbooks2read.com/u/4En91A I shake my head, even though it is. I feel like my heart is being ripped from my body. The choice I have to make. Is it even a choice? “I…I overreacted. I’m…I’ll be fine,” I tell him, clutching at his hand and turning it to kiss that rough palm. Because I have to be fine with whatever I choose. And I don’t know if I can choose a future with him. Not after everything I’ve been through. My parents owe me for what they put me through. I’ve earned it with my blood and tears. Can I give it all up? For him? Caleb’s thumbs rub over my cheeks. “Okay.” He doesn’t sound convinced. Not that I expect him to. I’m a liar in the worst way. Selfish, thoughtless. He will never forgive me once this is over. My eyes water, and Caleb’s face crumples as he pulls me into his chest and holds me. I should never have let him be my roommate. I should have let him go about his life, never knowing me. It would have been simpler, better. But I was too greedy. Wanted him too much. And now look what I’ve done. I’m set to ruin him. I need to pull away before I do more damage. I need to end this. Soon, I tell myself. Just one more day. Let me have one more day.#mmromance #corarose The Author Agency ... See MoreSee Less

And despite my friends’ numerous offers to help find him online, we’re too busy opening Lick It!, our new ice cream shop, to spare time for my non-existent love life. But when Jonathan walks through the door on a sunny Friday afternoon, I can’t help but feel like it’s fate. He’s shy, sweet, and we immediately click. Jonathan doesn’t have much experience with relationships, so I’m determined to give him the attention he deserves, even if it means I’m pulled in two directions.
