Two Chicks Obsessed with Books & Eye Candy

Sharing our love of M/M Romance

TCO Reviewer: Denise

Stitch Me: MM Romance (Bears-4-U) by K.C. Carmine: Release Day Review

February 24, 2023 by Denise

A cuddly bear with a burning need for a steady relationship. A bad-boy immigrant who’s down on his luck and desperate for security. When a new dating app brings them together, their chemistry is instant and explosive.

His career a mess and the excitement of his sex life fading, Rod is ready for a change. He needs someone who can fit into his world as a true partner, but also feed his dominant and sadistic sides. Impossible? Maybe, but he needs to try. He signs up for a new dating app, just as a feisty young man catches his eye.

Desperate to escape his dead-end existence in the US, Caleb flees to England in search of a different life. But without a proper job, he might be forced to return home. Along comes a trusted friend, a new dating app, and a chance to find a cuddly bear to submit to.

Consumed by his white-hot passion with Caleb, Rod pushes hard for their relationship to progress. He refuses to let his perfect sub slip from his grasp, and he’ll do whatever it takes to earn his love before they run out of time.

A high-heat MM romance.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect with this book. I haven’t read this author before, and I didn’t read any of the other books in this series yet. But this was a cute premise, basically an app that matches people who are looking for Bears.

That isn’t how the MC’s initially meet, though. They meet following a bar fight, where the sweet Bear Rod takes care of Caleb, and gets a smoking hot kiss in return.

Caleb has a lot of issues around what he left in Chicago (Shout out to Portillo’s! Just had it last week!) and trying to find a way to work within Bristol in the UK. Since he doesn’t have a work visa, and is waiting for that, he resorts to illegal means to get whatever money he can to survive. And his mom…and entire family…what a piece of work. Caleb deserved so much better than what he received in return.

Meanwhile, Rod just wants to take care of Caleb, make sure he isn’t hurt, and do whatever he can for him. Caleb accepts some of it, but not as much as Rod would like. Rod was so patient, knowing that he wanted to lock up Caleb to keep him safe, unsure if he would even return to him when he left, but he never wavered.

There were a few places that left me wanting a deeper resolution, although one of them came through at the end. That being said, it almost felt like an afterthought, in how easily it resolved.

Overall, a book I would recommend if you’re wanting a BDSM with a side of sweet bear.

The Best Man’s Problem by Sera Taino: Release Day Review

February 21, 2023 by Denise

.                                   .

He can’t forget the kiss he shared with the best man.

But is he the best man for him?

His sister’s wedding isn’t the ideal place for Rafael Navarro to reconnect with the man he kissed in a moment of reckless abandon. But it’s impossible to avoid best man Étienne Galois! The gorgeous Haitian photographer hasn’t forgotten the intimate moment they shared, even if Rafi is the most maddening person he’s ever met. Can the two find common ground, proving opposites not only attract—they can become lovers for life?

Harlequin

This book is from a traditional publishing, Harlequin Special Edition. These are the books that as a teenager, if I got one…oh my…lol. I’m glad to see how they’ve evolved more. More diversity in the MC’s as well as the side characters, and different sexualities are referenced. This isn’t your grandma’s romance novel, and that was all right with me. 🙂

This book had such great representation. In fact, there really was only one character who was a white male, and cisgender. Both Creole and Spanish language phrases were sprinkled throughout the book as well. I really enjoyed that. Quite often, when MC’s speak different languages, you might see one or two references to it, but this book had the languages represented from beginning to end.

Rafi was a control freak, trying to keep everything exactly in the path that he laid down, and love wasn’t really in his life’s plan. The guilt over how his mother died permeated every interaction he had in his life. This made the book a bit of a slow burn, from enemies to lovers. Their first kiss was before the book started, then the first reader read kiss wasn’t until over halfway through the book. It took them a while to get from calling each other names to calling each others’ names.

Étienne, meanwhile, was very much the opposite of Rafi. He was open to love, open to life and new experiences. He’d had his own tragedy on his island in Haiti, before moving to NYC. For Étienne, it caused him to not want to waste a minute of life. It did lead to some heartbreak for him, as well.

There were some issues that I felt were unresolved, or not fully resolved to my satisfaction. In addition, the book is written very formally. The everyday language used was stilted in some places, using words that are not normally in the vernacular. That piece definitely harked back to the older days of romance novels.

This was definitely opposites attract with, of course, a Harlequin guaranteed HEA. An enjoyable read.

Prince of Lies by Lucy Lennox: New Release Review

February 14, 2023 by Denise

.                                          .

Rowe Prince is a lying liar who windmills into my life in full color, claiming to be Sterling Chase, a quirky, eccentric billionaire… and founder of the company I created.

Two can play at the lying game, though, and I’m not about to let some burrito-delivering, floppy-haired virgin from Indiana best me at a game I was born to play.

So I do him one better and pretend to be Sterling Chase’s new assistant. I’ll teach him a lesson that will hopefully wind us both up in bed… with nothing but the truth between us.

But it turns out his shameless lies are enchanting… unintentionally hilarious… and make it all too easy to forget the truth…

Until I learn that this cutie’s intent is to defraud the company I’ve spent years building. I have to choose: risk the company or say goodbye to the man I’m falling for. A guy who just might be…

Title: Prince of Lies

Genre: MM Romance

Tropes: Billionaire/Mistaken Identity

Goodreads

Isn’t it great when a book surprises you? It just doesn’t happen as much anymore. Am I a cynic? Perhaps, but fortunately Lucy took this one and gave me a surprise.

Reading the blurb, all about people that lie…well, it didn’t strike me as a book that I was going to be gangbusters for…but of course, it’s Lucy Lennox, so I should not have worried. This was a laugh out loud, sweet and low angst story. Worth a re-read for sure.

The banter between the two MC’s was so much fun, as they met via lies, and Rowe just kept telling them, and getting himself further into his outrageous stories. It does take a bit to get into the story and the relationship between the MC’s, but once it happens, it’s just gangbusters.

Rowe is so darn cute, trying to lie and then lie on top of his lies, but is super awkward (you know, for a billionaire). Bash, meanwhile, despite all his money, is sweet and caring, for Rowe, as well as all his friends, and wants to make a positive mark on the world.

Definitely a fun read, lots of laughs, some sizzling chemistry and a satisfying conclusion to the issues they were dealing with.

4.5 pieces of eye candy (that extra 1/2 for the surprises!) 🙂

Lucy Lennox is a USA Today bestselling author and winner of the A.C. Katt Gay Debut Novel Award.

After enjoying creative writing as a child, Lucy didn’t write her first novel until she was over 40 years old. Her debut novel, Borrowing Blue, was published in the autumn of 2016. Lucy has an English Literature degree from Vanderbilt University, but that doesn’t hold a candle to the years and years of staying up all night reading tantalizing novels on her own. She has three children, plays tennis, and hates folding laundry. While her husband is no shmoopy romance hero, he is very good at math, cooks a mean lasagne, has gorgeous eyes, looks hot in his business clothes, and makes her laugh every single day. She writes gay romance with heart, humor, and heat!

Chaos (Tattoos And Ties Series Book 3) by Kindle Alexander: Blog Tour, Excerpt and New Release Review

February 9, 2023 by Denise

.                                          .

Dev Devilman Fox, the best ink slinger in town, is known for his sharp wit, angry fists and epically bad decisions. Becoming a lifelong patched member of the Disciples of Havoc MC at eighteen years old is probably the worst…but certainly not the only. When his hot new tenant catches his eye, Dev jumps in headfirst, ready to drive full throttle wherever that sexy road leads. That is until he finds himself on another hairpin turn, careening his life toward the closest brick wall.

Special Agent Cash Thomas has spent years undercover rooting out bad apples within various federal agencies. When his latest assignment brings him face to face with a sinfully tempting man from his past, his priorities shift on a dime. Now his reputation as a dedicated and focused field agent is in question. When faced with the opportunity to repay the man who once saved his life, smudging a few well-established lines is the least he’ll do.

When their paths collide can a bond from the past save their future or will it bury them under the chaos? Leathers might shield them from road rash, but they can’t protect them from heartbreak.

Chaos is a suspenseful motorcycle club romance with strong male leads. A stand-alone story in the Tattoos and Ties series. If you like sexy alpha males ready to take on the world for the one they love and intriguing storylines with many twists and turns, give Chaos a try.

Order: A Motorcycle Club Romance (Tattoos And Ties Series Book 2)

He opened to see the man of his dreams studying his face. Cash lifted a hand to the back of Dev’s head, forcing him down for a blistering, soul-wrenching kiss.

The only feeling that mattered was Dev’s cock moving against his as the biker adjusted the hand at his ass to stroke both their cocks in unison. Cash’s tongue followed the quick rhythm Dev created. He could kiss this man forever.

Oh yeah, he was absolutely going to come. Instinctively, Dev seemed to know and tore from the hold, staying inches from his face as he said, “Hold out as long as you can. Hear me?”

Dev didn’t wait for an answer and pushed back on his heels before letting go of a scorching round of curse words, drawing Cash’s attention from the certain orgasm to see Dev rolling away from him.

“I’ll be back, goddammit.” Dev crawled off the bed, the awful words continuing as he struggled to move with the jeans halfway down his legs.

A deep physical need bound him to Dev.

Devin Fox.

Devilman.

His foxy devil.

The man made him feel something substantial for the first time in a very long time.

His outlaw biker.

He couldn’t tear his gaze away from Dev who fought with his boots and jeans. What a spectacular backside. The art was insane, but that ass kept Cash’s eyes locked right there.

“Fuckin’ condoms. Who’s stupid fuckin’ idea was that?” Dev hopped on one foot, tearing off his last boot.

Cash had to dodge the flying footwear tossed over Dev’s shoulder.

Full disclosure: I didn’t read the first two books. They both came out during a rather challenging time in my life, so I had to put them aside. I figured it was finally time to jump in, since this was considered a stand-alone. It IS a stand-alone, although I suspect reading books 1 and 2 would have given me a bit deeper of an understanding of what was going on behind the scenes. However, since the timeline between the two books seemed to run somewhat parallel, you really didn’t lose very much.

Quite often, Kindle Alexander books are insta-love, or fairly close, and this one is no different. Cash has been in love with Dev since he was about 9 years old, and comes to town to use his status within the Attorney General’s office to try to save Dev from certain jail time, while taking down the rest of the MC, and finding out who was committing financial crimes.  Dev doesn’t realize he falls in love with Cash immediately, but it’s pretty obvious. Cash, meanwhile, had so many reasons to want to save Dev and his family, but he was not a pushover.

Dev was definitely all about being a family man, loving his daughters, his mother and sister, his best friend, and doing everything he could to keep them safe. Meanwhile, though, he was gritty, a fighter, and someone who was willing to exact revenge on those that hurt those he loved. His realization about Cash was real, and it was easy to understand how he responded as he did, and held on to that anger for most of the rest of the book. He was able to hit back hard on Cash emotionally, but couldn’t sustain it because it hurt him as well.

I will say, I almost stopped reading this book a few times, not because the story or writing weren’t good, but because of some small triggers for me in there. But I muscled through, and am glad that I did. I really did end up enjoying the book, and getting to know these two MC’s better.

There is a book 4 “coming soon”, but I’m going to guess that with how meticulous these authors are, it will be a while before we see it. And that is okay, because we at least get to see that a HFN just as the book ends, which is satisfying…for now. 🙂

I think I’ll need to go back to work on books 1 and 2 in the meantime, so I’m ready for book 4.

Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It’s always a surprise to see what’s coming next!

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!

Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.

I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.

That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

Up To Snow Good: An MM Christmas Romance by Charlie Novak: Audiobook and New Release Review

January 25, 2023 by Denise

.                                .

This Christmas, Trouble Tastes Like Chocolate

Maximillian Arthur Felstead is up to no good.

Having taken it upon himself to plan an anniversary surprise for his brother and his fiancé during their annual December ski trip, Max realises nothing happens quickly this close to Christmas. Deciding chocolate is the answer, Max accidentally incurs the wrath of chocolatier, Luca, who’s having a pre-Christmas nightmare of his own.

Luca is short staffed and short on patience, and he isn’t enamoured with Max’s clueless demands, even if he is utterly gorgeous. So when Max reaches out to apologise, Luca can’t help but be drawn in by his charm and Max’s offer of help, especially when their chemistry is hot enough to melt the ice on Mont Blanc.

With their time together running out, can a little Christmas magic help Max and Luca find what they’ve been searching for?

Up to Snow Good is a 49,000-word, low-angst MM contemporary Christmas romance featuring snow-topped mountains, Christmas market cuteness, delicious chocolate, and plenty of sweet, steamy moments.

Audible

This was just a fun, fluffy, enjoyable listen. I really like Dan Calley’s narration, as his accents really hit the mark for me. However, in the end, it’s the story that has to work best, right? And this one does for me.

It’s a holiday book (yes, I like to read/listen to them at any time of year), that has Max surprising his brother and best friend with a surprise during their ski trip. Initially, Max doesn’t make the best impression on Luca, in his chocolate shop. He does end up going back and apologizing, and once Luca has a spare minute, they fall into bed, and begin to have fun together. (Side note, I’d like to see the Christmas market).

Luca, after his cousin flakes out on him, is doing his best to keep his shop running, with the help of his snarky assistant, but is on a short timeline for the holidays and cannot seem to work enough. Once Max offers to help, it doesn’t solve the problem, but helps Luca immensely and allows them a little more time together. It also gives Max time to think about what he wants out of his life.

There were some funny parts (I haven’t heard “butt munch” in a long time and it made me lol), but it was mostly just a sweet story, with some heat, and a lovely MC in Max that you just want to give a huge hug to, as he decides how he wants to move forward with his life. Spoiler alert: there is an HEA 🙂

Sit down for a bit to read this, have a cup of hot chocolate in honor of Luca, and enjoy this one.

Twilight Heist by Katherine McIntyre: RB, Release Day Review

January 20, 2023 by Denise

Heist rule number two? Never fall for a lone wolf.

A blast from Tuck’s circus past draws Tuck and the charming lone-wolf hacker, Leo, into a dizzying web of passion, secrets, and betrayal.

When the circus comes calling, Tuck is helpless to the lure, and this time, his old troupe’s in trouble. Their attempt to leave Reynauld Industries ended with a hit on them, courtesy of the deadly mercenary group, the Stockyard. Tuck can’t sit idly by, and as the resident stealth operator for the Outlaws, he’s in a unique position to help.

Leo’s a lone wolf hacker, and no amount of his best friend’s pleading, Tuck’s flirty smiles, or interesting jobs will sway him into working with the Outlaws. At least, until they land this one. After growing up in the hellish Stockyard, he’s wanted to take them down for years, and this is the Holy Grail of opportunities. Only problem? The Outlaws can never know about his history with them.

When Leo and Tuck start working together, a chemistry emerges that neither of them can deny. Leo’s mantra of “one and done” falters the moment Tuck shows him a care and steadfastness he’s never experienced before, and the more time they spend with each other, the more he doesn’t want to give up the first man he’s started to fall for. However, if the Outlaws discover his past or the Stockyard finds him first, Leo will end up one of the bloated corpses they’ve left lining the Chicago River.

Midnight Heist (Book 1)

Twilight Heist is book 2 in the Outlaws series. Although it can be read as a standalone, I would recommend book 1, Midnight Heist first. This author has such a great gift for storytelling, and her backlist covers quite a few different genres, so if you are in the mood after this, grab some others. (I definitely recommend checking out the Chesapeake Days series.)

In this book, we learn a lot more about Tuck, and his backstory.  As a tightrope walker it helped his ability to move carefully and quietly, and was out for revenge. Meanwhile, Leo, the hacker, is essential to the operation, and himself is out for his own revenge. They definitely had some issues to work through on their way towards their happy ending. Trust is a two way street, and when it’s broken, quite difficult to get back.

Lots of action in this series, and this one packs quite a bit in. However, as always with this author, character development is so well done. You really begin to understand the motives behind their actions, even as they work toward their happy ending.

Well written, and filled with emotions amongst all the action.

Katherine McIntyre is a feisty chick with a big attitude despite her short stature. She writes stories featuring snarky women, ragtag crews, and men with bad attitudes—and there’s an equally high chance for a passionate speech thrown into the mix. As an eternal geek and tomboy who’s always stepped to her own beat, she’s made it her mission to write stories that represent the broad spectrum of people out there, from different cultures and races to all varieties of men and women.

Who knew straight guys with long term girlfriends were so into platonic cuddling?Chase’s stressful days as a medical resident have me doting like an eager housewife—which is ridiculous…Until we cross a line, and I’m left wondering what’s crazier: Chase still thinking he’s straight, or me thinking this could end in anything other than heartbreak.CHASENinety-hour weeks as a general surgery resident leave me hollow and mentally fried, so when running into an old acquaintance offers me a break I desperately need, I jump at the opportunity. As the Life Flight helicopter pilot for Boston Memorial, I expected to see Logan from time to time. What I wasn’t expecting was to become his roommate so soon after reconnecting.Nor was I expecting my platonic feelings for him to turn into something… more.I blame it on my need for physical touch and the long-distance relationship I have with my girlfriend.Until a kiss with Logan at the stroke of a New Year’s midnight changes everything.I need Logan in ways I never imagined, but by the time I figure that out, it may be too late.Asystole is book one in the Boston Memorial series. It can be read as a complete standalone but does feature characters from—and contains light spoilers for—Avalanche (Part of the Ricochet Ridge series).✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up here bit.ly/ASYSTOLESIGNUP#jilliandwray #mmromance The Author Agency ...

Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
Allegiant (The Firm Book 4) by Cora Rose and Lark Taylor. My review:Another winner for this series. Listen, you definitely have to suspend reality. But at the same time it seems so normal. Maybe because we don't see a lot of the "wet work" of The Firm. And these brothers are just so funny. They all have serious trauma from their father and they aren't the greatest at expressing emotions. But they love and protect fiercely. Even when they are threatening each other with daggers, torture and imminent death. Ahh fratricide. Must like one of the other books, Samson is tasked with killing someone they believe killed his best friend. But then he met him. Lust came first.Rowan is still grieving his best friend who was killed almost a year ago. He throws himself into work as a dancer and preparing for an upcoming show. But this handsome giant of a man helps him forget as well.Until, yanno, Samson figures out that Rowan didn't do it. And he has to convince his brothers of the same.Besides the regular cast of characters, we also meet Larry. Rowan's neighbor who he considers old and invalid and he kind of forces friendship on him. And helps him out around the house. The more we learn about Larry, the more interesting he is.Rowan also helps Samson come out of his shell a bit with dance. Something Samson loves but only does in secret. Never in front of anyone. Until Rowan. I was a bit perplexed why Rowan was able to forgive one person for something but not Samson. And He does grapple with that himself. But I appreciated that Rowan really stuck up for himself and wasn't going to just accept what happened. These two were so great together. Rowan defending Samson to Samson's brothers made me want to stand up and cheer. And Samson refusing to just go away after the big fight. He was fine in the shadows. He just needed to keep Rowan safe. Swoon. If you've read the others, you'll really enjoy this.PS: as someone who grew up going to dance classes who also had a some who went to dance classes for 10 years, I wish more research was done so those parts of the book were more accurate.PPS: THAT EPILOGUE!4 Pieces of Eye Candy ...

I’m projected to be the first overall pick in the NHL draft this summer, and have been nicknamed a franchise altering talent. But with high praise comes a lot of pressure I can’t escape, and has resulted in me being a rookie in more ways than one.The only problem is there’s only one person I feel safe with, and I'm pretty sure there are rules about not crushing on your teammate.TylerEver since I met Colby, I’ve kept an eye on him. No one should have to put up with the pressure the world has laid on his gorgeous shoulders and the defeated look in his beautiful eyes. But you shouldn’t notice these things about your teammates.
