Two Chicks Obsessed with Books & Eye Candy

Sharing our love of M/M Romance

Release Day Review

Adrift in the Embers (The Game Series Book 7) by Cara Dee: Excerpt and Release Day Review

July 22, 2022 by Denise

.                                    .

Join Little Corey on his journey out of the fire, away from the crippling doubt and uncertainties, and into the healing, adrenaline-inducing, sweet, filthy, and safe embrace of three men starting to realize their dynamic might not be complete just yet.

On a bad day, I blamed my stupid, damaged, autistic brain. No one forced me to be with him. No one forced me to accept what he told me. That I was difficult. Difficult to handle, difficult to please…heck, even difficult to go out to dinner with, considering all my texture issues. On a bad day, I believed every word he said. I was lucky to have him. I loved him so, so much for putting up with me. I was gonna leave my friends and family behind, move with him to Denver, and we were going to be happy together forever.

Then Master Greer opened his big mouth, and I didn’t know what to believe anymore. He was my friend, my favorite Sadist in the whole world, and he was dating two amazing men who were also saying stuff that was painful to hear. Like, I wasn’t difficult at all. Like, the man who was supposed to protect me, love me, and take care of me in our Daddy/Little relationship was in reality abusing me.

I started having good days thanks to them. Good, bewildering, mind-numbing, eye-opening, very good days. It was just extremely important I didn’t get confused by their kindness. They opened up their home to me as an act of friendship. Nothing more, nothing less. As soon as I felt better, I’d be on my way again.

Crap.

The Game Series is a BDSM series where romance meets the reality of kink. Sometimes we fall for someone we don’t match with, sometimes vanilla business gets in the way of kinky pleasure, and sometimes we have to compromise and push ourselves to overcome trauma and insecurities. No matter what, one thing is certain. This is not a perfect world—and maybe that’s why the happily ever after feels so good.

Iffy was the best word to describe what I felt when I drove toward Mclean that evening.

It’d been a late afternoon of conflicting emotions and more confusion.

Daddy had liked my Facebook update a few minutes after I’d posted, which had made me feel so good. And I’d read and reread the post so many times that I knew it by heart now.

Sometimes it’s extra important to reflect on what others tell you, and we’re never too old to improve. I’m going to dial things down and try not to take up so much space. Because when I talk, I can’t listen.

His little heart reaction under the post meant the world to me. I was doing something right, finally.

But then two friends had sent me private messages, basically accusing Marcus of making me feel bad and taking too much from me.

So…a lot of confusion here. I mean, these were friends I trusted.

The sun was about to set when I got closer to our kinky estate, and I did my best to push aside all the anxiousness and focus on the fun I could have tonight. Master Greer was demonstrating figging on his new slave, Archie, and some were trying to get Nathan, one of our rope riggers, to showcase bondage for smaller body parts, like fingers, toes, balls, cocks, pussies, and nipples.

To be honest, I was a little nervous about seeing Greer. He’d been treated unfairly in my mess of a life. What was supposed to have been a simple arrangement of me receiving pain from him had become a clusterfuck of mistakes and, evidently, lies.

It’d started so perfectly. Marcus had given me permission to ask Greer. Greer had accepted. Our first session, he’d made me cry so fucking hard, and I’d fallen head over heels for his ways. His manners, the way he spoke and commanded the room, his affection, and how he administered pain. The rawest of hurt, the best emotional release, and then he’d held me tightly afterward.

Everything had unraveled from there. I’d been the idiot who hadn’t considered the fact that Greer needed aftercare as much as I did, and I’d been so focused on Marcus’s demand that I go home straight after the session. I wasn’t allowed to linger, and he wanted to handle my aftercare himself. So Greer had asked me to stop by one day to “talk.” And he’d mentioned that the aftercare was very important, not just for him to make sure I was all right, but for him to mend too.

I still felt bad after apologizing. Sometimes I was so damn blind and stupid.

I’d wanted to make up for it after our second session; I’d illustrated something for him on my iPad and ordered the design on a knitted beanie. Because he made me feel warm and fuzzy inside, and beanies were warm. But then Marcus had told me Greer was sick—when he wasn’t. So I hadn’t shown up.

I hated lies.

Lies tilted my world sideways.

The next time I’d seen Greer was the night Marcus had beaten one of his other Littles in front of me. A night I wanted to forget. I’d had to share a bed with Marcus and that guy. Ugh.

The only good thing about that night was when Greer had come over to me. Over and over, I replayed the memory of his stare. From the second he squatted down in front of where I’d been kneeling, to the moment he’d risen again to confront Marcus. Greer’s warm, rich voice calling me a good boy had still been swimming in my head when he threatened my Daddy.

“Corey will show up tomorrow, Marcus… I promise I won’t be ‘sick.’”

I released a breath and pulled in next to the big carport that was already full. Plenty of cars had to park on the grass.

This place was just packed with memories and stories, and it made my stomach hurt when I thought about leaving.

Hell, this community, House Mclean, meant more to me than my own home. This house had to stand forever. I felt so welcome here. And dammit, if I was moving to Denver with Marcus, I was going to visit DC often! Maybe even once a month. I wanted to see my mom and Lane anyway.

With my overnight bag in tow, I left my car behind and made my way across the large lawn in front of the house. The music wasn’t too loud yet, and people were still arriving. Some would have dinner here; some had already eaten. I could usually smell the barbecue the minute I stepped out of my car.

Just as I climbed up the porch steps, I heard a bunch of shouting and cheering from the other side of the house. It was followed by Noa yelling, “Wait for us, please! Cameron and I are just gonna eat! We will hurry!”

A rush of anticipation surged through me, and I started hurrying. They obviously had plans, and I didn’t want to miss anything! Past the lobby, through the nightclub area, and then I reached the patio doors right behind a group of members who were clearly planning for some hot tub time. They had drinks, towels, and swimwear. Very skimpy swimwear.

Plenty of cute butts in this crowd.

As they aimed for the hot tubs, my view cleared up and revealed a patio full of friends and acquaintances. It stopped me dead in my tracks, and I was suddenly hit by a ball of nerves. Don’t be in the way; don’t take up too much space. Most of my friends were partnered up. Cam and Noa were with Master Lucian and KC. Kit was with Colt and Mr. West. Shay was with River and Reese.

I chewed on the inside of my cheek and hesitated. Who should I greet first? It seemed everyone had already found their group. The tables were full. Everyone was chatting away, and I didn’t want to intrude—

“Corey! Get your sweet butt over here before anyone else steals you away.”

The sound of Greer’s voice brought me relief, and I mustered a smile at him. He was sitting with Colt and Reese, and I hurried over to them and sat down next to Greer on the sofa.

“Hi.”

To my surprise, Greer leaned over and kissed the top of my head. He was just too fucking sweet. I couldn’t deal, dammit. Funny how I usually needed pain to cry, and now I was ready to bawl my eyes out over a sliver of affection.

“How are you, sweetheart?” Reese asked.

“I’m good!” I was quick to say. I didn’t want my crap to show, so it was important I maintained a grin. “How are you? Where’s River and Shay?”

“They went upstairs for a date with a cane or seven.” Reese smiled. “Colt, Greer, and I are in the mood for raising hell with brats instead. We’re playing tag in a little bit—I take for granted you’ll join us.”

I loved tag! I loved it so much, because I was pretty darn fast.

“Of course he will.” Greer answered for me before I could. “I need someone to chase down, and Archie would rather talk about babies with Ivy.”

I slapped a hand over my mouth and couldn’t help it; I fell into a fit of giggles. And it wasn’t so much what he’d said as it was the relief of seeing him again and not feeling like I was a nuisance. He wanted to catch me and play with me! I hoped he would introduce me to his partners also, Archie and Sloan. I wanted to meet them.

“If you really want me to,” I said. “But babies are cute!”

He smiled wolfishly and closed the distance, bumping our foreheads together. “You’re cute.”

God, this felt so good. He overwhelmed me in the best possible way. I giggled again, and I had to struggle to keep my emotions at bay.

Maybe tonight would be exactly what I needed.

Yup. This book is my favorite of the series. Definitely. And I honestly didn’t expect it to be. 2 distinct couples that actually make up a relationship of 4 men can be messy. But it never is.

When we last saw these men, McLean House/House McLean was literally on fire. Corey had been there alone as his daddy was still in Denver coordinating their move. Greer, Archer and Sloan were still very much in their honeymoon phase as a triad. But Corey always had a special place in Greer’s heart. So like any Dom. he took control and took Corey home with him and his men.

Corey assumes it’s just for a few days, maybe a week until his Daddy Marcus picks him up so that they can move to Denver for Daddy’s new job. And since Corey wants to make him happy, he agreed to go without really agreeing. Because he was never asked.

Back at Greer’s house, there is the Dom himself Greer, his slave Archer and their other partner Sloan who is a daddy without a little. This is where I started really loving this story.

No one pushed anyone to do anything. It just all seemed to come so naturally. Corey fitting into and completing their dynamic. Archer was who I worried about the most because he was the only sub in the house and slave and now there is another sub who isn’t a slave. But it all just worked.

And while there were a lot of sex scenes, it wasn’t over done AND there were actually not a lot of full on kinky scenes. Which also let the true feelings come out I think. They weren’t relying on kink to establish their relationship(s). Before this, Corey and Greer had only non-sexually scened together. And Corey had no relationship at all with the other two. But like a 4 piece puzzle, they just fit perfectly.

And oddly enough, I think this one is the least kinky book so far. BUT that does not take away from the story at all.

Love, love, loved it.

I’m often awkwardly silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.

There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly.

Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve.

I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I’m a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, cooking, baking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and family, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

July 21, 2022 by Denise

.                                     .

Falling for my childhood sweetheart wasn’t part of the plan.

Moving back to Heather Bay wasn’t on Oliver’s agenda for the summer, but after inheriting a cottage in dire need of renovation he doesn’t have much choice. Supervising the builders should be easy… except the man in charge is Oliver’s childhood best friend and ex-boyfriend.

Lane’s spent nine years desperately trying to forget his first love, but that doesn’t stop him from fantasising about Oliver in every spare moment once he discovers Oliver’s back in town. Falling into bed together isn’t supposed to mean anything, even if Lane’s emotions feel too big to be ignored.

Being drawn to each other is one thing, but being stuck together after disaster strikes the renovations is another. The pull of the past is strong but Oliver and Lane have been down this road before. This time they’ll need to learn from their mistakes so they can finally keep their promises.

Like I Promised is a steamy second-chance contemporary MM romance featuring former childhood sweethearts, interfering friends, questionable barbecues, a very lazy collie, cosy coffee shops, and secret beaches.

I took a step closer until we were side by side. There was barely any space between us. I turned my head to look at him and found Oliver’s beautiful dark eyes gazing back at me.

“I missed you,” I said. “I missed you so much. There were days when all I wanted to do was talk to you—about work, about Sparrow, about some random shit I’d seen on TV. About everything.”

“I wanted to do the same, especially that first year. Everything was so hard. I didn’t know anyone, I felt so alone and isolated, and I kept wondering if I’d made a mistake moving away.”

Something deep inside me cracked as Oliver spoke. I knew we were both to blame for what had happened between us, but it didn’t stop guilt from spilling into my chest. My hand brushed against his.

I love a good second chance romance. Going back home to your small town. Faced with the guy you loved all your life but he chose to stay home while you went to college. And as soon as they see each other again **sparks**.

After literally not speaking for nine years, Lane and Oliver kind of fell right back into being friends. Probably because they started as friends when they were kids. But even with time and two broken hearts, they were meant to be.

I loved that neither one was all pissy at the other for what had happened. They both accepted fault and figured it was inevitable at the time. Imagine that, being all mature.

Then there’s the forced proximity. That always leads to sexy times.

It was fun to have characters from another book show up in this one AND there are big hints that another character will make an appearance. I love that because you get to revisit guys you fell in love with previously.

There is a lot of reminiscing, not only between Oliver and Lane, but also with their group of friends. Friends Oliver lost when he went away to college as well. Of course there are some newcomers to the group who are really interesting and I hope we get their stories as well.

No big drama. No bg angst. No big fight, subsequent break up and make up. Just two guys who know what they want and are willing to work for it. Oh and the sex scenes about lit my Kindle on fire. I kind of wish that had been explored a bit more. But I’m not complaining.

Halfway down the block I came upon a small queue outside a tidy brick establishment which proved to be Color. The distant thrum of Ariana Grande leaking through the double wooden doors onto the sidewalk reminded me I was close to a generation older than most of the guys ahead of me waiting to get in.

I joined the line, ignoring a low whistle of interest from one of the guys as I passed. I took his appreciation as reassurance that my skinny black jeans paired with one of Rhys’s new season tight black-and-white-checked T-shirts passed muster. I checked my phone as I waited and fired off a text to my younger sister knowing it was afternoon in New Zealand. A few seconds later the phone rang in my hand, and I smiled and swiped it open.

“Hey, sis.”

“Hey, you. I’m heading to the supermarket. What’s up?”

The line shrank by a couple of guys, and everyone shuffled forward. “Not much. I’m waiting to get into a bar and thought I might catch you.”

Silence. “Hunter Donovan is in a queue?” She chuckled. “You don’t do queues, bro. I thought you rarefied fashionista types skipped those pesky things.”

“It’s not that level of club,” I explained. “Think popular, off-the-beaten-track gay bar. I doubt I’ll see anyone I know and certainly no one who knows me.”

“A gay bar? Ohhhhh, are you on a date?”

“No, I am not on a date. You know me. Besides, I’ve only been here two days.”

“You’re right. I do know you. Which means you’re cruising for some pretty arse. You after a bit of downtown rough, big brother?”

“Jesus, Patty, you sound like a low-budget movie, and we are not having that conversation. Ever. If you must know, I met a guy I worked with in Auckland and he happens to tend bar here. I said I’d drop by.” Kind of, almost.

“Riiiight.” She sounded sceptical. “Do I know them? You’ve always said the best thing about your trips to New York was all the great clubs. I’ve never known you to waste your time on suburban bars.” My sister was way too perceptive.

“True, but this is that model from fashion week last year? The guy Rhys discovered—”

“Oh my god,” she blurted. “That gorgeous hunk of drool you shot for Flare. Alec someone, right?”

“Alec Williamson. He got signed by Cage Talent after the show and has been in New York since. I ran into him quite by chance.”

Patty was quiet for a few seconds as the cogs in her brain ticked over. “But you liked him, right?”

What the fuck? I said nothing

“You can’t lie to me, Hunter. I know you. He’s the one hanging in your office on your wall of fame, aka my personal wall of hotness. He’s wearing Rhys’s design. Holy shit, Hunter. Do you have a thing? Are you—”

I needed to shut this down fast. “He’s hanging there because it was my best friend’s signature shoot for his new label,” I argued. “Not because it’s Alec.”

“Mm-hmm.” There was an irritating smile in her voice. “Pull the other one. I called into Flare that day, remember? You couldn’t take your eyes off him. Neither could I, to be honest, but you were a little smitten kitten.”

I so was. “I so wasn’t. You’re dreaming. Alec is a great model, that’s all. If I was smitten, it was on a purely professional level.”

“And yet you’re queuing to have a drink at the place he works?”

Well, when you put it like that. “Maybe.” It was all she was getting. “It’s the friendly thing to do, right?”

“Aha. Yep. Very neighbourly of you. Oh, here’s a thought. If you like him, how about you keep it in your pants for once, at least for more than a day? Get to know him.”

Too fucking late. “Oh, look at that, the bouncer’s waving me in. Gotta go, sis. Nice talking to you.” I stabbed the End Call button, stared at the double doors for a second, took a deep breath, and then pushed through.

The immediate assault to my eardrums almost rattled my brain from my skull. Add that to the heaving crowd and multicoloured light display circling the room and dripping down the walls, and I needed a minute to orient myself. I passed the coat check desk and slid against the closest wall to take a look around.

The place was humming, the music pulsing loudly above the thrum of a hundred different conversations, while the surprisingly spacious dancefloor writhed with every possible combination of couples, throuples, and dogpiles of slick bodies. Like the queue outside, it was a younger crowd, mostly early twenties, but with enough around my age to drop the creep factor to acceptable. I watched the dancers for a bit, appreciating all the hot skin and tight muscle on display before scouting the bar.

“You wanna dance?” A warm body leaned close, and I turned to find an attractive dark-haired man just inches from my face. He had the greenest eyes I’d ever seen and a pouty mouth made for sucking cock. He licked his lips and ran his hand up my arm. “You’re fucking gorgeous.”

On any other night I would’ve had him down the back and on his knees with my dick down his throat in about five minutes flat, but I wasn’t even tempted—a disturbing fact that was worth an alarm bell or two. Instead, I simply smiled and covered his hand with mine.

“Thanks. You’re pretty hot yourself, but I’m meeting someone.”

After reading Flare, the first book in this new series, I couldn’t wait for Strut. Totally worth the wait. You don’t have to read Flare, but you should. I said so.

Strut time jumps us almost a year or so. Alec was signed by a modeling agency and has moved to New York City. He is hustling all he can modeling, trying to make a name and face for himself. But it is a tough gig. He’s in a 3 bedroom apartment with 9 other models. They rack up debt with the agency (I had no idea this was a thing and I was scandalized) and many have second jobs. Alec is a bartender at a small gay club on the weekends.

Then one day he runs into a photographer from his home in Auckland. The photographer who helped him (and his friend’s design line, Flare) get exposure. Same guy he had a hot encounter with at a bar and watched as he immediately walked away. THAT guy.

Honestly, I’m surprised it took them a year to run into each other. Yes, NYC is big, but the male modeling world isn’t. Anyway. Even though they both were so obviously into each other back in New Zealand, Hunter ran and Alec was pissed, and he isn’t getting over it quickly.

Let me first say that this is the first book by this author that wasn’t set in NZ. It was set in NYC which I am very acquainted with, growing up less than an hour away. And I’d like to say well done. There were no stereotypes of the City or it’s people. That was SO refreshing. No clichés, distances between places was correct, etc. New York City was a gorgeous background character in and of itself.

I loved how Alec did not immediately swoon over Hunter. He didn’t even want to hear his apologies or excuses or anything. Bravo, Alec. But Hunter wore him down, pulling romance he didn’t know he had right out of his back pocket.

Alec runs into some trouble with another photographer when he is up for a campaign that will completely change his career. There are rippling effects to this trouble and Alec enlists his friends in NZ.

Seeing everyone come together- including other models and his model roommates was great. And something that I am positive happens in real life and is never spoken about. So this really broadened an already big issue without downplaying the original issue.

Alec and Hunter are great together. Their personalities just mesh and even though Hunter is new to the whole boyfriend thing, he really tries to be the best one he can.

If you loved Flare, you will love Strut. Even if you didn’t love Flare you will love Strut. A book that was romantic and sexy and real life conflict and awareness raising with a plot.

Rookie Mistake (On Board Book 1) by L.A. Witt and Anna Zabo: Release Day Review

June 28, 2022 by Denise

Rookie forward Isaac Rivera is still finding his footing in the big leagues where he’s no longer the best player on the roster. It’s a whole new world, especially now that several of his hockey idols have become teammates. Friends, even.

There’s one who’s more than a hockey idol, though… and he might end up being more than a friend.

Julien Landry is a powerhouse on the ice. In eight years, he’s become one of the league’s top defensemen and the heartthrob everyone wants to bed. But fallout from a painful mistake as a rookie, followed by years of rough-and-tumble hookups, have him itching for something more.

When a connection sparks between him and Isaac, he discovers what he’s been missing: someone he can trust with his body and his heart. As long as Isaac and Julien keep the heat between them off the ice, what could go wrong?

But Julien’s past is never far behind him, and when it comes crashing in, he might lose everything—his career, his friends, and the first person he’s ever really loved.

I’ve always been a fan of LA Witt. And I’ve enjoyed Anna Zabo’s books. So match made in heaven, right?

Well…yes, mostly. Let’s dig.

LA Witt has been known to have increasingly long books. And that’s fine. Sometimes a story needs 100 pages to be told. And sometimes it needs 400 pages. And while this one clocks in at over 500 pages, it really didn’t have to.

There is A LOT of hockey in this book. “But, Erin, of course there is! Both main characters are hockey players!” True, true. But there are descriptions that go pages about plays, what happened during the game, where the puck went, etc. Play by plays of a fictional game that I really don’t think added anything to the story.

What I can see is the passion both authors have for the game. And I commend that. But I just wish there wasn’t so much of the game play that had my eyes glazing over a bit. Admittedly, I am not really a hockey fan. But I have read plenty of books featuring hockey. And I’ve enjoyed them. But I also wasn’t immersed in hockey.

Ok, moving on.

Beyond the above, I kind of loved the whole dynamic going on. The seasoned players kind of taking the rookie under their wings. Also Julien has different reasons for doing that. And his friends know he has different reasons, but they are cool with it.

Isaac is totally star struck and trying not to be. He had posters of Julien on his bedroom walls. Now he is not only playing on the same team as him, but apparently they are friends? Until Julien passes him his address.

Although unrealistic, I loved that being gay in hockey wasn’t a huge plot point. People knew Julien was gay (or bi? sorry, can’t remember) and it was no big deal. No big announcements really. They kept their relationship on the down low, not because they were two men, but because they were two men on the same team and one was a rookie.

There’s also a subplot involving Julien and another player who used to be on his team but now plays for someone else. That definitely added a lot to the story and to who Julien is.

As always, the sex scenes were off the chart hot and very unexpected.

I definitely want to read book 2. I can guess who it is about and I need to see that. But maybe a little less play by play.

Party planner Colin Brightman doesn’t drink or dance, preferring to go to bed early with his spreadsheets and lists. All he wants is to forget the singles weekend his friends sent him on, but he’s stuck with a suitcase filled with condoms and skimpy Speedos that don’t belong to him.

He doesn’t expect his luggage thief to be ex-baseball superstar Walker “Walk-Off” Scanlon. Or that Walker has hired his firm to put on a charity event at his bar. Colin can’t deny the mixed emotions the annoyingly flirty man stirs in him, but he refuses to fall for someone who racks up lovers as easily as he once hit home runs.

No matter how much he might want to.

Walker Scanlon likes his men easygoing with no complications. He’s had enough of those in his life. So why is he drawn to tense and straitlaced Colin and his frosty scowl? Even his corny one-liners and jokes don’t get him a smile. But the sparks between them are undeniable. And that unexpected kiss? Amazin’.

Now if only Colin would stop running away. Good thing Walker is fast on his feet, because he has no intention of letting Colin go.

When Colin and Walker come face to face with past hurts and betrayals, they’ll need to trust themselves and each other to learn that heartbreak and love don’t go hand in hand. It’s the bottom of the ninth and if they swing for the stars, they just might hit the grand slam of a lifetime.

I have to admit. I am a sucker for a baseball player. And one that is past 30? Even better! The older I get, the more I appreciate “mature” characters finding love.

Walker is retired from the game after a career ending injury. He has always been out, never hiding his sexuality. He is also Jewish and wouldn’t play on religious holidays. Two strikes against him in the macho world of professional sports. But he made it through fairly unscathed, except for the career ending injury that was definitely caused on purpose. So now he owns a high end sports bar and is surrounded by guys from his baseball days. He is a really good guy, basically.

But when Colin first sees him, they are at a gay singles resort and he is in the middle of the dance floor doing the limbo. In a Speedo. Super straight laced Colin thinks he is ridiculous. Super hot, but ridiculous.

The universe brings them together in two different ways. So you know it was meant to be. But Colin was hurt by his ex husband and Walker was hurt by his parents and they both have some walls to get through.

Walker is fun. He is a SHAMELESS flirt. He sees what he wants and goes after it. Everyone loves him-friends, customers, employees. His flirting can be so cheesy but at the same time, you just have to smile.

Colin is the complete opposite. Couldn’t flirt if he tried. Very introverted. Has 2 friends. But he and Walker are drawn to each other, as much as Colin doesn’t want to admit it.

So two things I really loved, I already mentioned. The main characters are a bit older. I think 38 and 44? AND they are both Jewish. How often does that happen? I loved it.

The author obviously has a love of Brooklyn and knows it well. The borough is almost a third main character.

There was a lot of misunderstandings between the two men. A few too many, in my opinion. They did always get past it by talking to each other and a long time didn’t pass before they figured things out.

There could have been a lot of angst. Both men had trauma. But it was dealt with in a way that the tone of the story didn’t bring you down.

Fun story, mature characters, great setting and side characters who added to the story.

Felice Stevens has always been a romantic at heart. She believes that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending just around the corner. Her characters have to work for it, however. Like life in NYC, nothing comes easy, and that includes love.

She lives in New York City and has way too much black in her wardrobe yet can’t stop buying “just one more pair” of black pants. Felice is a happily addicted Bravo and Say Yes to the Dress addict and proud of it. And let’s not get started on House Hunters. Her dream day starts out with iced coffee and ends with Prosecco, because…why shouldn’t it? You can find her procrastinating on FB in her reader group, Felice’s Breakfast Club.

Saint’s Song: Rebel Kings MC: Cam, Alexei, and Saint by Garrett Leigh: RB, Release Day Review and Giveaway

June 16, 2022 by Denise

Expect: a fragile king, a sweet-hearted henchman, an enigmatic hitman, and a fight to the death.

Cam, Alexei, and Saint have survived their battle with the devil, but with too many enemies to count, can they survive the war?

“Kill me,” I choked out. “If he’s dead, you gotta kill me too.”

One club, one heart.

Three men, one soul.

Can loving someone kill you? I feel like the world is ending every time I look at them.

Cam. My brother. My president.

He’s the love of my life

And then there’s Alexei. I didn’t know I could feel this way about one person, let alone two. But I think of him in every breath I breathe for Cam. Every thundering beat of my heart. Because there is no Cam without him.

There is no me. My life wasn’t worth living until I found something worth dying for.
And I’d die for them a thousand times.

Saint’s Song is the second in a hurt/comfort, biker romance, MMM duet from the world of the Rebel Kings MC. Content warnings inside the book.

So, I fell even more in love with these guys.

Firstly, let me admit that I had to reread book 1. And then I reread my review of book 1. I ended that review with:

“This is book one of two. Apparently book 2 explores more of the relationship growing between the three men together. Because as a triad we didn’t get a whole lot. So I definitely want more. But there are other characters I would love to see get their happily ever after as well. Fingers crossed for more books.”

Let me confirm that yes, they are a firm triad in this book. And it plays out in so many different ways. Each man has his own personality, but how he loves the other two- with his heart and his body- are unique to them. With Saint they are gentle. Saint is always gentle. Cam and Alexi, not so much.

There is still trouble happening with the MC, fall out from what happened at the end of book 1 and more trouble around the corner. Cam is still determined to go straight. So they have to do something about the trouble.

As an American (this book takes place in England), I really appreciated that this outlaw motorcycle club doesn’t use guns. They don’t even entertain the idea. Alexi does, but he is a Russian hitman. But the MC? Nope. Pipes, hammers, chains. Old school. Which is still brutal af but it also makes the fights extremely personal.

The who and what of the issue between the Rebel Kings and the Crows is twisty and turny. Makes for an interesting plot, but also made my eyes cross if I was reading too late at night.

So I got what I wanted out of book 2. AND there are more to come according to the author’s note at the end of this book. So yay!

Shadows Never Lie (Shadow Duet Book 1) by Lark TaylorMy review:Ok, going into this knowing that there is a book 2.....And I just have to start by saying I really appreciated that they are identical twins who don't get along. So often they are BFF and twin telepathy and all that. And it does happen. But not always.I have to admit I was sucked in from the start. Especially since the first chapter was present day and then chapter two starts the back story. Just from chapter 1 I wasn't expecting their younger years to be as they were. And I really wanted to hate Dominick. But once more information about his life came to light AND how he started treating Ryan, I had a soft spot for him. Max (Ryan's twin) on the other hand, can go scratch. It will take a lot for him to redeem himself in book 2 if that even happens.I kind of saw the cliffhanger coming. I still wasn't prepared. Oh my heart just broke. And I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! Good thing book 2 comes out in 2 weeks...4 pieces of eye candy ... See MoreSee Less

Avalanche (Ricochet Ridge) by Jillian Wray My reviewI really liked these two characters and how they aren't exactly what you expected.First, yes they are step brothers. But they are 4 years apart AND Stone left when he was 18. You can extrapolate that there wasn't even a crush between these two guys until this book. Hero worship, yes. Romantic crush, nah.Stone, kind of a hot shot on the mountain because he is part of the blasting crew who set charges to trigger avalanches when no one is on the mountain. He is obviously good looking and popular, but the outside doesn't necessarily match the inside. And Hanlon, babied his whole life because he has a mild case of cerebral palsy, but he also grew into a independent college senior who has a gym body, is confident, out and proud. The quiet kid grew into a confident adult and the confident kid turned into a quiet adult. There was animosity between the step brothers for different reasons. But once they pushed past that and they started feeling things, it got interesting.Again, role reversal of the stereotypical characters. And that made it so fun.It sucked that they basically had to stay in the closet. Because of family and because of work. But we all know that doesn't last forever. And I totally understand their parents feeling the way they do. But like good parents, they found acceptance in their hearts. The CP representation was done really well. Showed that there are different levels of CP and even when it isn't overtly obvious, there's still a lot that a person has to deal with.AND I learned more about avalanches.4 pieces of eye candy ...
