Halo (Fallen Angel Book 1) by Ella Frank and Brooke Blaine: New Release Review

February 27, 2019 by Denise

Massive world tours. Over a hundred million albums sold. Groupies galore.
Every day is a party for Viper and the guys of TBD, the biggest rock band in the world. But it all comes to a screeching halt when the lead singer walks out of the studio one day and never comes back.

Ear-blistering vocals. Butchered lyrics. Fame chasers.
After months of lackluster auditions, Viper, the lead guitarist and resident bad boy of the group, is ready to find solace in the bottom of a bottle. Time’s running out and the pressure’s on to find a new singer, but it isn’t until an angel walks through the door that the band’s prayers are answered.

Charismatic. Talented. Magic behind the mic. Halo is everything they’ve been looking for.
With a voice to match his stunning good looks, it isn’t long before Viper’s taking notice. But there are several reasons this is a bad idea:

1.Interpersonal relationships in the band are discouraged
2.Viper has already broken rule #1—big mistake
3.Halo is straight

Too bad Viper’s body isn’t listening to his head—at least not the one on his shoulders. But you can’t fake chemistry, not onstage and certainly not off it, and Viper and Halo? They have it in spades.

As both men try to resist the fire blazing between them, and the band is forced to reinvent themselves, it’ll be a complicated rise back to the top. But from the ashes of what was, something beautiful is born. Something better. And when the world finally sees Halo stretch his wings, they’ll discover what it’s like to fall for an angel.

BOOK ONE OF THE FALLEN ANGEL SERIES
A ROCK ROMANCE

Amazon – Kindle Unlimited

Ok. I am a fan of both authors. And I particularly like when they co-author. And this book was fun as hell. And sexy. And a little bit sweet. And super hot. But if you are fans and have read their books before- Viper is the new Logan and Halo is the new Tate. There were A LOT of similarities.

Did I still totally enjoy this book? HELL YES I DID!

I love rock star books. They are just fun. A glimpse behind the scenes. This glimpse being the band, TBD, looking for a new lead singer after their original one walked out with no explanation. There is quite a bit of back story there that we didn’t get and I can only assume we will hear about in the coming books.

Halo, yes apparently that is his real name, auditions and blows the band away. Viper, lead guitarist, is immediately drawn to him. But he is straight.

After their big comeback show is a flop, the band regroups. Viper flirts HARD with Halo, Halo shows off that he is a musical prodigy, and they discover a new sound for themselves.

I didn’t really understand the comeback show flopping because the lead singer took off 7 or 8 months ago. That had to have been common knowledge. I mean, it is the age of social media. In fact, you’d think there would have been a social media blitz to introduce Halo. These little things bug me. Luckily, most of these little things happened at the beginning and I was able to move on. Mostly.

This book is a slow burn. There’s a lot of flirting by Viper. Quite a bit of soul searching by Halo. But for a gay for you book, slow burn in necessary. Keep us turning the pages waiting for the magic to happen.

I really liked that because of the lead singer change that the group went with a whole new sound and band name. Too easily could Halo have just slipped into a role.

The other band mates are fun and play good supporting roles. Two straight, one gay. They don’t seem to harbor as much vitriol for the missing lead singer as Viper does. Which is another big clue that there is way more to that story than we know yet.

So yes, I drew a lot of parallels between this book and Try. But I also really enjoyed reading it and want book two. Because I need answers!

Ammo and Enchiladas by BA Tortuga: Exclusive Cover Reveal

February 27, 2019 by Denise

TCO is excited to have BA Tortuga here with an exclusive cover reveal for Ammo and Enchiladas. (Isn’t that a cool name for a book????) So check out the cool cover, and let us know your thoughts!

After a night at the movies in Albuquerque, NM, Brantley’s best friend, Matt, is shot right in front him during a robbery. Stunned and devastated, Brant tries to help Matt’s husband, Travis, deal with the funeral details even as he struggles with his own grief and Travis’s blame. When Travis’s best friend arrives, Brant is both annoyed and grateful, because he is so darn tired and can use the help.

Lex Espana is ashamed to admit he hasn’t seen his childhood best friend since Travis’s wedding. He’s even more amazed that he barely remembers Brant from that wedding, because he’s sure interested now. While it’s weird to fall for someone at a funeral, his feelings for Brant are real and make him long for a life he didn’t realize he was missing.

Neither Lex nor Brant knows how to be part of an us, though, and they both have a lot to work through before they can settle in. To become a real couple, Brant and Lex will have to dig deep to get past the roadblocks in their relationship.

Hijacked Love by Ethan Stone: Quick Review

June 2, 2017 by Denise

It’s the winter of 1971 and FBI Agent Zack Pomeroy is hoping to make a name for himself when he’s assigned the case of the century—the hijacking of an airplane by D.B. Cooper. Zack’s used to hiding his sexuality but working with Duke Magruder is even more of a challenge. Not only do they do have vastly different personalities but also contrasting opinions on how to work the case. Nonetheless, Zack is able to earn Duke’s begrudging respect.

Until Duke learns Zack’s secret.

When Zack finds a lead on the case Duke not only refuses to listen, he also refuses to work with Zack any longer. Zack’s career and his assignment are at jeopardy but that doesn’t mean he’s about to give up on finding Cooper, no matter how many years it takes.

Hijacked Love is a blend of mystery and historical fiction with a bit of romance thrown in.

The story of D.B. Cooper and his complete disappearance has always been one of those mysteries that has fascinated me. To have someone hijack a plan, and a ton of money, and just disappear with little more than a trace has always been just so interesting, so when I got the chance to read this, I grabbed it.

This isn’t really a romance, although there is a romantic element in it. And the author kept true to the real-life story, and the mystery is not solved. However, I still enjoyed it. I haven’t ever read much on the story, other than how they think he escaped, so I don’t know how many of the “facts of the case” are true to the real-life story, but it seemed real to me! The author did a great job of bringing all the information to the table in an enthralling manner. I read it beginning to end in one sitting, because I was so fascinated.

I did like that Zack had a man he’d been with for many years, and yet they still needed to come to terms with the changes in their relationship. It added an extra piece to the story, knowing that Zack had someone to come home to, and someone he didn’t want to disappoint.

A good quick read.

Rubble and the Wreckage by Rodd Clark: Spotlight – Character Interview

June 18, 2015 by Denise

Rubble and the Wreckage draft 1c

Synopsis:

Gabriel Church knows you can’t take a life without first understanding just how feeble life is, how tentative and weak it stands alone. If you desire murder, you hold a life in your hand. Whether you release it to grant life or grip tighter to end it, it is at your command and discretion. Gabriel is a serial killer with a story he wants told.

Christian Maxwell studied abnormal psychology in college but chose instead to focus on a career in writing. His background comes in handy when he thinks of writing about a serial killer. He can’t think of anyone more qualified to write the story of Gabriel Lee Church, and do so in the murderer’s own words. It’s been done before, but never with a killer who has yet to be captured or convicted.

There was never anything more than a gentleman’s understanding between the two men that Christian would record Gabriel’s life story. The killer did not ask for his complicity in any crimes, nor did he ever ask for his silence. Christian’s interest in the man, though, is fast becoming something more than academic. When the writer and his subject become unexpected friends and then lovers, the question remains: What is Gabriel’s endgame . . . and why does he want his story told?

Character Interview:

Stats

Age:     36

Gender: Male

Birthplace: Kentucky

Profession: Drifter

Ethnicity: White

  • Tell us about this character.

Christian is an attractive and educated man, very erudite and currently in his mid-thirties. He is living as a closeted gay man when our story begins, but finds himself desperate to connect with someone who can break him out of his destined routine.

  • If you could only hear this character’s voice (but not see him) what characteristic would identify him?

Church is a dichotomy because he appears red-neck illiterate from the outside, but in truth has his deep profound thoughts and belief-structure. His voice is masculine without being wordy, but his control is always sensed and displayed by the few sentences he blurts out. His speech illustrates a subtle wisdom with a serious knife-like edge, because after-all, he has seen and done it all during his lifetime.

  • How educated is this character?

Gabe is street smart but even with his high school education he shows he is envious of Christian’s brain and intellect. He considers the man an enigma and struggles with the knowledge that his life could have turned out very differently had he been given the same chances at a college education. One that Christian has taken for granted.

  •  On what special skills does your character rely?

Gabe relies on his ability to read others and spot their weaknesses; it may be why he is so fascinated with Chris Maxwell, his polar opposite. Christian doesn’t seem to possess that skill at all, and this creates a symbiotic relationship of Gabe wanting to protect his lover from the dangers he sees so clearly.

  • Does this character see morality as black-and-white, or with shades of gray?

Church can only see in shades of gray. His beliefs seem rigid and morally unyielding, but he is plagued by every decision he makes. Those decisions become questionable only after meeting someone new that he forms a connection with, though he can’t fully fathom that at the time.

  • If someone from your character’s past showed up, who would he most NOT want it to be, and why?

Easily that would be his younger sister who he abandoned alongside his mother and father when he left the rural sticks of his hometown.   He regretted that most of all and that he couldn’t remain close to her, considering her collateral damage in his reach for freedom from his past.

  • What secrets does your character know about people around him that he does NOT share?

He saw lust in Christian’s eyes from the very beginning and recognized the man had his own sexual secrets he’d yet to open too. Church understands lust and regularly uses it to his advantage. He knew Chris wanted him from the second their eyes met across the table and he toyed with him like a cat ping-ponging a half-dead mouse between its paws, and all for its own sadistic enjoyment.

  • Who in his life has the power to hurt this character the most and why?

Church would say it would be God, because finding out he was wrong about his personal mission would be a devastating blow to him. It is those doubts that Christian brings into play by simply listening and without judgement. It is the first indication that Church may have been mistaken all along.

Did you see?✨ ILY by @authoremlindsey & @coraroseauthor is available NOW! Grab it in KU!#OneClickNowbooks2read.com/u/49wOaY Why you need to #ONECLICK this book…❤️Mistaken Identity❤️Hookups to Lovers❤️High Heat❤️Murder Mystery❤️Hearing/HoH❤️Farmer/FBI Agent❤️Found Family❤️MM Romance❤️RomcomWhoever convinced me that quitting my job as an interpreter to take over my dead aunt’s farm should be covered in honey and left for the ants. Oh wait…that was me. I was burnt out and ready for a change, but I didn’t expect what came with it. An orchard full of fruit I’m allergic to.A bunch of farm equipment I don’t know how to use.And a vindictive, vicious groundhog who has made it his life’s mission to drive me to the brink of madness. But in my quest to find a permanent solution for Michael, I’ve also acquired something else I didn’t expect: a stalker. I should be more concerned that the man offering to sell me TNT has followed me home, but Thorne is the most gorgeous thing I have ever laid eyes on, and we communicate well. With our hands in ASL, yeah, but also with our lips, tongues, hips…and other parts of the body. It’s also increasingly obvious that Thorne is much more than a stalker. With my focus on trying to stop Michael from using his little paws to dig my grave, though, it’s hard to worry about his secrets. But skeletons never stay buried for long, and when everything comes to light, I can’t help but wonder if Thorne is the best thing that will ever happen to me, or the worst. ILY is the second book in the Deaf Hearts series and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. It’s a spicy, MM, strangers to lovers rom-com featuring a burnt out, not-quite farmer, a tall, dark, and handsome man with a mission and a secret, a groundhog that knows more than everyone else, and a toe-curling, feet-kicking happily ever after.#newrelease #corarose #emlindsey #kindleunlimited #mmromance The Author Agency ... ✨EXCERPT: SOMEWHERE TOGETHER by @authormandymuse releasing December 1st! #PreOrderNow a.co/d/dLGPAjx My best friend looked like hell but he had also never looked so good. His hair was a little longer, he had trimmed facial hair that gave him a more rugged look and seeing him with Sol always made my non-existent ovaries go into overdrive.I didn’t go with him into the house as he dropped off Sol, because I needed a little space and time to think about us. Was I really going to tell him that I loved him? Baring my soul to him sounded like a really bad idea. Maybe we could just kiss and make up then, maybe once we were in a better place I could casually say,“Hey I love you and want your babies.”Why was this so fucking hard?I was scared, I was being a child and I knew if I just told him then I could move on, no matter the outcome. Sam left the front door and Forest was right behind him. Nova must have said something funny because they laughed together, glancing at one another before waving as the door closed.Forest said something to Sam, making him scowl but Forest was enjoying his discomfort. I looked between them, noticing the vast differences between them. They were good looking in their own way but they were such opposites. Light and dark. A flash of them in bed together popped into my mind. Forest’s darker tan against Sam's lighter skin and them grinding together. Sam liked to top but would he bottom for Forest?Forest screamed dominant top and picturing them together had me uncomfortable in my uniform. My window was lowered as I heard them talking, my fantasy getting dirtier and ranchier.✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up here to promote this awesome release: bit.ly/somewheretogethersignup#mandymuse #kindleunlimited #mmmromance #booktok #bookstagram The Author Agency @authormandymuse ... Two Chicks Obsessed with Books and Eye Candy
Sins of the Father by Isabel LuceroMy review: 4 POECSolid mafia book with the added twist of the priest.I am not religious at all, but I did grow up in the church. Still, it doesn't offend me at all that the priest was...gay, has a father in the mafia, is hooking up with his father's bodyguard and more. And I still think it was pretty respectful. Because Carlo, the priest, was still fighting his urges. Still praying for guidance and forgiveness. Still trying to uphold his position. But then there's a point of no return. And it's obvious to everyone.Javier is a gun for hire. Not a made man. Not officially part of any family. But Carlo's father kind of claimed him after Javier's own father was killed. That caused some friction between families but it wasn't too bad. What was bad was the rat in the family. And when it is time to suss him out and really take care of the problem, Carlo knew he had to do what he had to do.The dynamics between the different families got a little confusing for me, but that was me. I liked how the book had an actual plot and story besides Carlo and Javier. Besides the whole priest thing, mafia men aren't gay. Or aren't allowed to be gay. So let me say that THAT scene toward the end had my mouth dropping open. DAMNIf you like mafia books and aren't squeamish about religion and blasphemy, this is a good read ... See MoreSee Less
