Two Chicks Obsessed with Books & Eye Candy

Sharing our love of M/M Romance

Bring Me Home: A Dad’s Best Friend Small Town MM Romance (Safe Harbor Book 1) by Annabeth Albert: Release Day Review

April 27, 2023 by Denise

Help!

I’ve inherited my aunt’s historic house in small-town Oregon, and I need to fix it up and sell it fast before I move on to my big-city dreams. I’m one of the navy’s best investigators, but twenty years of living in base housing means DIY isn’t part of my extensive skill set.

Luckily, my best friend has the solution: his twenty-three-year-old son. Knox recently graduated from college, needs a room for the summer, and comes with a giant cat and years of remodeling experience.

Not only is Knox all grown up and hot as sin, but I recognize him. He’s the bossy, bearded guy I shared the hottest kiss of my life with. No way can my buddy find out I’ve got it bad for his son. But with all the stripping, hammering, and drilling, my defenses crumble one dance break at a time.

As our sexy secret summer fling continues, Knox also proves himself handy at fixing my grumpy mood and wounded heart. Now I can’t imagine a future without him. I can solve any problem the navy throws at me, but I have no clue what to do about loving Knox or the damage this could do to my decades-long friendship.

Can we build a forever together, or are we destined to go our separate ways?

BRING ME HOME is a small-town Dad’s-best-friend MM romance. It features a forty-something grumpy former naval investigator, a much younger ray of sunshine, a matchmaking cat, sexy times in unusual locations, enough heat to burn the neighborhood, and a warm fuzzy hug’s worth of found-family feels. Dual point-of-view and big fluffy HEA guaranteed!

BRING ME HOME launches the brand-new Safe Harbor series from acclaimed author Annabeth Albert. Knox, Monroe, and the rest of Safe Harbor, Oregon, welcome readers to a historic town with a tight friend group, memorable secondary characters, quirky businesses, and long-held secrets. Each book stands alone with a fresh couple, but the background mystery of the town’s secrets ties the series together.

So I just melted into a puddle of goo. I blame Annabeth Albert. I’ve read every single one of her books and enjoyed them all. Navy SEALS, firefighters, security experts, you name it. But for some reason I feel like this one is starting a series that will be closest to her heart. Maybe I’m wrong. But it felt like it.

Small town Oregon, guys with 20 year friendships, their adult sons *wink wink* and a dilapidated house. How can you not love a town called Safe Harbor?

Monroe had previously only spent about a year and a half in Safe Harbor, living with his great aunt so he could finish high school while his Navy father was stationed in Guam. He created life long friendships there before he, himself joined the Navy. But now he is retired and owner of the old Victorian he lived in with his aunt.

Chance brought him together with Knox, chance also separated them before they could even exchange real names. (Oh thank you Ms Albert for not using nicknames throughout the book!) Until, surprise! Knox is actually the 23 year old son of his best friend from high school. Who he is still friends with. Sticky wicket there.

Knox ends up being volunteered by his father to move in with Monroe (!) to help him rehab the house to get it ready to sell. I’m sure you can see where this is going.

They fight the attraction until they give in. And while Monroe really doesn’t want to hide, being that he lived through DADT, he caves because it’s just for the summer.

So they strip wallpaper, and each other while pretending to just be friends. But they really do become friends, and more, as they get to know each other. Monroe quickly realizes that Knox is a grown ass man, not a kid like everyone seems to think.

Knox 100% had my heart. He was that guy. The one who would, and did, do everything for everyone. But no one seemed to think of him or his feelings. Except Monroe. Having him just get the validation that he was an adult, he could make his own choices, he could do what he wanted, from Monroe was everything.

We get some fun characters. Knox’s bosses- Frank and Leon. Coffee shop owner, Sam. High school friend and current college professor Holden. And a brief glimpse of former resident and completely broken human, Worth. And a fabulous cat named Wallace.

There’s also a murder mystery that Monroe and Holden are working on. A cold case that never seemed quite right. It was not solved in this book and I am assuming we will wait until book 3 for a resolution. I can do that. I can wait. I CAN WAIT. Kidding, kidding.

If you couldn’t tell, I really loved the book. The characters, their nuances and dare I say, their maturity. Too many times I am seeing these guys revert to their dumb teenager selves. But not here.

Read it. Fall in love with Knox, Monroe, Wallace and Safe Harbor.

Can I have book 2 now?

Finding Mr Fabulous by Con Riley: Release Day Review

April 26, 2023 by Denise

Featuring a duke-to-be with a problem and a thief who could be his solution. Expect fake dates and fiery first-time love in this standalone contemporary MM romance set in London and Cornwall.

Rex Heligan might be known as Mr. Fabulous in the bedroom, but he doesn’t want a boyfriend. In truth, he doesn’t have time between his London banker lifestyle and the Cornish dukedom he’ll inherit. What he needs is someone to watch over his grandfather while he’s away on business.

Rex’s shortlist of caretakers shouldn’t include a thief he once caught stealing, but Devesh Singh-Smith is more than a cat burglar.

Much more.

He’s the only one-night stand Rex hasn’t forgotten.

Rex convinces his grandfather that Devesh is the first boyfriend he’s ever wanted to bring home to their castle where their sizzling spark rekindles. He doesn’t expect the explosiveness of their connection. He also doesn’t expect Devesh to steal his heart by sharing secrets or to leave before their fake relationship is over.

There’s only one way for Rex to steal his heart back.

He’ll have to catch his thief twice and share his own secrets with him, even if it costs Rex his dukedom.

Finding Mr. Fabulous is set in Con Riley’s extended Cornish romance world. New readers can start right here and expect a story rich in heartstring-tugging emotion, and to swoon over a guaranteed HEA, while previous readers might enjoy glimpsing a few old friends.

CW: Past bereavement.

Amazon – Kindle Unlimited – All Regions

One of the things I really love about Con Riley‘s books are the interconnection. Even if it isn’t until the very end that we see it connected to a previous book or series. And even though this is a stand alone (I assume, at least for now) we get very satisfying visits with previous characters. And it isn’t forced at all. Completely seamless, fit into the story and were part of the story without taking it over.

Pretty sure the only thing I maybe didn’t like about this book was the title. Only because it seems too flippant for such a great story.

We met Dev back in the book Charles. We also met Rex before, but the memory eludes me. Rex does have a past with Charles, so I assume it was also in that book. They remain very good friends though. Because how can you not love Charles?

You haven’t read Charles? GASP! Go now! Read it!

Honestly, you don’t have to read it in order to be on top of this story.

A ruse after a lie brings Rex and Dev together. As well as the promise of going through the attics on the island. Although Rex is 100% sure nothing in their possession was stolen at any time.

What develops is Dev having an amazing relationship with Rex’s grandfather while Dev and Rex begin to fall for each other through text and phone calls. So what then had a definitive end date now maybe….doesn’t?

There’s a lot to the story. Rex’s parents, one he barely knew before they died, the other a painful memory of their death. Which leaves Rex to inherit the title of Duke when his grandfather passes. There are no other Heligans. The surname will die with Rex one day.

You can’t help but love these guys. Including Pops. I even shed a few tears. And let me tell you- READ THE EPILOGUE! OMG! Seriously.

Love Song by Christina Lee: Release Day Review

April 20, 2023 by Denise

Thirtysomething bandmates, Nolan Metcalf and Ellis Bloom, have been there for each other through thick and thin. So when a life-changing event sends Ellis to the safety of Nolan’s apartment, he’s grateful for the comfort his best friend provides. They’ve never done anything resembling cuddling and sleepovers before, but Ellis finds he needs it just the same.

Soul-deep conversations and tender moments transform into a passion that shocks them both. Since neither has ever entertained the idea of being with another man, they attribute their confusing feelings to their established nightly routine. Determined to spend time apart, they resume their solo lives. But the desperate, achy neediness only returns, and soon enough they’re back in each other’s arms—and beds.

Before they have time to work through it, the real world intrudes. Admitting their secret status would change not only the chemistry of their band but the trajectory of their lives. Plus, their newfound feelings seem as fragile as the beginning notes of a new melody. They’ll need to rely on the solid foundation of their friendship, and even then, it could all fall apart. Will they become a one-hit wonder or a love song that endures the test of time?

*TW: Discussions of past child abuse and a home invasion involving weapons

Amazon – Kindle Unlimited – All Regions

I was pretty excited for this book. It didn’t disappoint. Best friends. Bi-awakening. In their 30s. Recipe for YES!

So many times we get the rock star and the regular guy. What I never see is two regular guys who also play in a band at night mostly for fun. Because they just love it. They don’t aspire to be rock stars. They just want to play music with their friends.

Nolan and Ellis are regular guys. One is a middle school teacher, one works at a music store and gives lessons in various instruments. On Thursday nights they play with two other guys at a local bar. They are also best friends and live in the same apartment building. One directly above the other.

Handy when Ellis needs his friend the most. They are both straight and acknowledge the toxic masculinity out there when Nolan says they can sleep in the same bed. When Ellis has nightmares and Nolan comforts him. When that comforting leads to cuddling. And then more.

Was it a seamless transition from best friends to lovers? Nope. Besides the fact that they both identified as straight, they stumble a bit with family and friends. They recognize that hiding it is also part of their preconceived notions.

At times the language they used was a bit stiff. Making them sound older than they were. But I got over it. Because you could really feel the love between these men.

This was a very easy read with some past trauma that is mentioned as well as the trauma that led Ellis to Nolan’s apartment in the first place. But it isn’t overly angsty at all and definitely focuses more on their budding relationship.

The Half Baked Plan (Love in No Man’s Land, Book 2) by Becca Jackson: RB, Exclusive Excerpt and Giveaway

April 20, 2023 by Denise

.                                                      .

Lucas
Fire took out my business, my apartment and almost my life a few weeks back, and now I’m living in my best friend’s house while I rebuild, and he travels the world. He found his perfect match and now It’s time I found mine.

After years on my own, I want a family, but I have zero hope in finding my match while I’m still completely crushing on the hottest builder in the world, and to make matters worse, he’s now my roommate.

I thought sharing a house with Carter would help me get over him. I’d see why he’s never had a boyfriend, or anyone worth bringing around town. I’d discover all of his faults up close and squash the perfect god-like image I’ve cemented in my mind all these years.

Problem is, no matter what annoying habits I jot down on my list, the more time I spend with him the more I’m convinced Carter is everything I will ever need. Now I just have to figure out a way to tell him.

Carter
With Michael traveling the world, it’s just Lucas and me in his house while we rebuild the café, bakery, and apartment. I’m happy for Michael. I really am, but seeing another friend get their happy beginning shines a light again on the fact that I might never get mine.

I’m sick of being everyone’s best friend, yet no one’s boyfriend. I want my happy beginning too. I want someone to pick me. To want me. To love me.

So I do what any single guy would do, I sign up for speed dating. Blind dates suck but I’m never going to find the one if I don’t start putting myself out there.

The problem is, the more time I spend living with Lucas the more I realize, I don’t want any of these random hookups. I want the sweetest guy I’ve ever met. The one who bakes me cookies to make me smile. So now I have to figure out a way to show him I can be an awesome boyfriend. I can be his happy beginning if he will just give me a chance out of the friend zone.

I toss and turn through the night, dreaming of Carter. That moment we shared in the kitchen—if it even was a moment—had my head spinning, so I’m up early baking and doing laundry while he and his brother snore upstairs.

I’ve folded all the clothes and am now staring at his basket, wondering how it isn’t weird that I just touched his underwear. Just the thought of Carter’s underwear would have had me blushing bright red only weeks ago, and now I’m doing his laundry every day.

It did start out weird. At first, I’d just separate everything and leave his stuff in the basket for him to fold and put away. But the more time he spends working in the cafe, the less time he has to do anything for himself. I can’t help much on-site, but I can do this.

I grab the basket and head to Carter’s room. The closer I get, the louder his heavy breathing becomes.

I reach the top, take a step into his room, lower the basket, and freeze.

Carter is lying facedown on his bed, his sheet scooped low on his bare back, just above his round ass.

Is he naked? Does Carter sleep naked?

He rolls, but before he’s flipped completely over, I drop the basket on the chair beside the door and turn, smacking my head on the doorjamb.

Ripped: An MM Age Gap Romance (Mars Fitness Book 1) by Linden Bell: RB, Exclusive Excerpt and Release Day Review

April 7, 2023 by Denise

Sometimes heartache is a blessing in disguise.

I thought my life was perfect, and then I walked in on my boyfriend sleeping with my best friend.

The only person I can turn to now is Donnie, the silver-fox spin instructor who lets me crash at his place. Donnie’s a lot older and he’s still grieving his late husband. My dreams of being a filmmaker have disintegrated along with my relationship.

The worst of life has brought us together. Do we dare create something beautiful out of it?

Ripped is an age gap, nerd/jock, hurt/comfort MM romance between roommates who cuddle while watching classic movies. Expect steamy shower rooms, teary confessions, disapproving family, and brand new beginnings. It is the first book in the Mars Fitness series and can be read as a standalone.

CW: grief and loss of a spouse, description of fatal car accident, description of homophobic family, cheating secondary characters. Happily ever after guaranteed.

“I cannot believe you’ve never seen The Count of Monte Cristo! Hello, Jim Caviezel? Guy Pearce? Baby Henry Cavill? With sideburns! In cravats!”

Donnie stares at me like I’m speaking a different language. “I don’t know. Maybe? If I have seen it, I don’t remember it. Must not have been memorable.”

“Oh my god, sacrilege! This is an emergency. We need to remedy this.”

We’ve finished our dinner of beef and broccoli on cauliflower rice, which—again—isn’t bad, but isn’t rice. Now we’re in the middle of cleaning up and Donnie drops this bombshell on me. It isn’t his first. He’s never seen Casablanca or Citizen Kane or Dr. Strangelove either. Never mind Psycho or Carrie or The Exorcist. I’m sleeping under the same roof as a film virgin and I have my work cut out for me.

“It’s not that I don’t like movies. They just… don’t make an impression, I guess.”

I take the plate Donnie hands me and run the microfiber cloth over it until it’s dry. “Okay, name one movie that’s made an impression.”

Donnie narrows his eyes as he thinks. “Titanic?”

“Oh my god!” I set the plate down carefully and snap the towel at Donnie.

He screeches and darts away, laughing. He looks amazing like that with his hazel eyes dancing and the laugh lines around his mouth and eyes out in full force. It’s been like this for most of dinner. Jokes and teasing and easy conversation that flows like we’ve known each other forever.

It’s comfortable. Not like old sneakers comfortable, where you should’ve replaced them ages ago, but couldn’t be bothered. More like finding that perfect pair of jeans that you buy in every available color.

Being with Donnie feels so normal it’s kinda freaky. We really have very little in common. He’s all into healthy eating and staying active. He knows a lot about how the body works. None of that is surprising because obvs, he’s Donnie, The Spin Instructor. But he also reads like, five books a week and listens to all kinds of weird music.

Movies and TV, though? Not so much. Not huge into Broadway either—musicals or plays. He almost never eats out and there are like, no snacks in the house. At least, nothing I would consider a snack. Granola is not a snack. At most, it’s breakfast. I need chips.

Donnie and I stand off in the kitchen. Him with wet and soapy fingers. Me with my towel-snapping skills. We stalk around each other in circles, each waiting for the other to strike first.

“Connor,” Donnie warns. There’s a twinkle in his eyes that urges me on.

“Donnie.” I mimic his tone, holding my towel in attack mode.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

“What does it look like I’m doing?”

I take a step toward Donnie, and he takes a step back. I take another step forward, and he bumps into the wall. He’s trapped and I smile like Jack Nicholson coming through the door in The Shining.

As far as I can tell, this is a new author. Unless it’s a pen name of another. But still, first title under their name. And while new authors tend to make me hesitate, I liked the sound of the blurb.

And…I liked it!

Ok, it was far from perfect, but a perfect book is nearly impossible to me. But if this truly is a first time author, well done. I think I only rolled my eyes once (tickle fight? really?) and moved on.

Although we know Connor is mid 20’s, I don’t know if we ever got Donnie’s age. I’m guessing he is a good 20 years older. Donnie is still mourning the death of his husband almost 4 years prior, but he is drawn to Connor. And having Connor living in his guest room is very tempting.

Donnie and Connor just mesh their lives together so seamlessly. It almost seemed like they had known each other for years before sliding into a romantic relationship.

Oh wait, I rolled my eyes again. I just remembered. Still, only twice.

Ultimately, they helped heal each other. Connor helped Donnie heal from his husband’s death and Donnie helped Connor heal from the betrayal of his boy friend and best friend. He even helps Connor’s mother understand a bit of adult Connor. Even though it’s really Connor’s brother who needs a slap.

The happily ever after wrapped up so well, and we get a very short glimpse of the next couple in the series. Which I will definitely want to read.

Pink light dripped over the speckled sidewalk like a tongue, alive and coiling with the flickering of the sign. Gideon Orchard’s eyes had the letters burned into them, but he couldn’t look away, despite having read them every day for the past year.

They were brighter on this side of the street. The lurid neon tubes were weeping. Salivating.

He shivered, his skin buzzing. And buzzing again. And again—

“Hello?” The phone was cold against his ear, soothing the strange evening heat of the desert. “Evan?”

“Yeah, hi, sorry. We can’t come. Beth got too drunk, and she yacked everywhere.”

“Oh. That’s fine. Is she okay?”

On the other end of the line, something rubbed over the microphone, and then Gideon heard a pitiful moan and a hacking cough.

“Yeeeeeah, she’ll be good. She just has to sleep it off. Have a good time, though!”

Terror ripped through him. “No, I can’t—”

“Bye!”

The beep in his ear signaled Evan’s exit, leaving Gideon alone on a street that wasn’t quite abandoned. At the traffic light, someone got off the bus Gideon took to and from work every day. They disappeared around the corner before he could think to hide in shame.

Gideon squeezed his eyes shut, his phone biting into his hand. That pain he could handle. It was familiar, useful for clearing his head. The ache in his chest was harder to shake.

Tonight was supposed to be fun. The culmination of weeks of teasing after he’d mentioned this place—Bad Co.—in passing in the lunchroom. His palms got sweaty when he remembered their mirth at his naivete.

“A bar,” Beth had crowed. “How cute are you?”

Beth and Evan were supposed to be here with him, laughing together like they always did, not letting Gideon in on the joke. He still wasn’t sure they’d ever intended to come here with him. He’d replay the sound of Beth’s retching in his head later, trying to discern if it was real or if they’d purposefully abandoned him outside a den of sin.

The light up at the intersection changed, and a little car with wings on the back buzzed past, buffeting Gideon with warm wind even as he reeled from the return of old habits.

There were no dens of sin. And if there were, they wouldn’t be located ten minutes from Gideon’s apartment, on a not-quite main street in Tucson.

Someone laughed, high-pitched and attention-seeking. Gideon turned around, stumbling over his feet in his haste not to be standing outside a place like that.

It was only when the laugh echoed away that Gideon stopped himself.

This couldn’t go on. The wondering. For months, it had built up in his gut every time he walked past, ever since Beth had told him it wasn’t a “normal” bar, but a place for freaks and perverts. On the way here, he’d stopped a dozen times and nearly turned around.

The sign was different in this light. Usually, it was off when he went by or dimmed by the morning light when he came home from the night shift.

He’d turned around to face it, he realized, without noticing. A moth to a lantern.

He couldn’t go on like this. Maybe—hopefully—it would be awful, and he wouldn’t get the release he worried he’d find, but at least he’d know.

The door swung open smoothly, then fell heavily behind him as he walked into a wall of sound. His eyes, sore from staring at the sign, watered at the change in light. There was none now that the haze of pink was gone, only a dim purple glow that grew brighter the longer he blinked.

“Good evening.”

A shape materialized from the darkness, and he almost went right back out the door he’d come in. But he stopped himself at the last moment, standing straight and unmoving except for the shaking of his tightly clenched fists.

Idle hands, his mother’s voice hissed in his ear. Two years out of her reach, and he still couldn’t break the habit of keeping them still. He’d considered trying, just to prove he could, but the risk was too great that he’d become addicted to the ridges of his scars passing under his fingertips. No. His hands would stay still at his sides as long as he could stand it.

“Hello,” he said, his voice steadier than he felt.

The bouncer’s voice rumbled through the blackness. “One?”

“Please.”

Their clothing matched. Gideon had to suppress a manic laugh as he yanked some bills out of his wallet. Their black T-shirts and jeans could have been purchased from the same store, if in very different sizes.

That was where the similarities ended.

Tall and short, dark skin and light, short-buzzed and stubbornly wavy hair, they were as different as they could be, but they’d both ended up here.

Probably for very different reasons.

“Through there,” the bouncer said, handing back a few bills.

Gideon would count them later when he could see the number and had time to worry about his budget. For now, he was too busy worrying about where there would lead him.

A curtain separated the dark-walled, boxy front area he’d been in, and the source of the purple light emanated from behind it.

Sumptuous was the word that first came to mind when he drew the drape back, revealing a foyer that belonged in a mansion, but an abandoned one without the warmth of a crackling fire in the next room.

Sinful was the next, but he swept it away, leaving it—and the person he’d been before this very moment—on the other side of the curtain.

The music was clearer here but still too loud and throbbing to be distinct.

Two women stood by a long, elegant bureau, a study in contrasts just like Gideon and the door man.

One was tall and rail thin, dressed for an office job. Splotches of blue and pink from the lights bounced off her dark, smooth cheekbones.

The other woman…

She was exactly what Gideon had pictured when Beth and Evan had described the place in detail, thinking to shock and educate the naive country boy. This woman was small, and she wore next to nothing except strips of black and so many spikes.

His tongue was thick in his mouth, and he nearly choked on it when those spikes glinted as she glided toward him.

“Hello,” she purred. “First time?”

Only the courtesy beaten into him allowed him to answer. “Yes.”

“Fun! What are you here for? It’s an open play night. No formal demos, just free reign on the floor equipment. The private rooms are all booked, but you can always hang around and see if someone wants to invite you in.”

Her lips glistened as if freshly moistened with something unspeakable, pursing as she waited for an answer he couldn’t give.

A clipboard appeared in her hand from somewhere, the edge flashing sharper than the shards of metal on her shoulders, and she tapped it with the daggers of her fingers. “So? It’s a bit of a maze back there, so I should really show you where you’re going. What are you looking for?”

“I need—”

His throat closed up, keeping the secrets inside. They were comfortable there, had made a home for themselves in a lonely, sunless part of his soul. Buried too deep, even here, where the promise of warmed skin and aching release was so close.

Need was too soft a word for how he yearned.

“I’ve got this one.”

It was the other woman, the tall one in a slim pencil skirt that wouldn’t look out of place at the old church. It fell obediently over her knees as she crossed the space.

“Whatever you say, Lenore.” The spiked woman went back to her clipboard.

“Welcome,” Lenore greeted him, coming to a stop milliseconds before Gideon would have backed up out of her reaching presence. From an invisible pocket in her blazer, she pulled three slim bands. “Which one do you want?”

He stared at them, draped over her hand innocuously. They all looked the same to him, except for their bright colors. He looked and looked, trying to interpret the right answer from her silent insistence, but had to admit, “I don’t know.”

She nodded as if he’d passed some kind of test he hadn’t studied for. “They let other people know what you’re looking for. Like a stoplight, see?” She flattened them out on her palm, pointing at each one. “Green, if you want to play. Yellow, if you’re not sure but wouldn’t mind being asked. Red, if you’re not interested in playing.”

He searched her face for humor, a joke he was missing to explain the repeated use of the word “play.” The spiky woman had used it too.

He’d seen pictures. He’d never been able to make himself read the words that went along with them—typing in keywords letter by letter had been hard enough with shaking hands—but nothing he’d ever seen was close to “playing.”

“Plaything,” maybe. A toy to be used and discarded. Not fun for anyone other than the capricious player. Something to be endured.

Dreadful want shuddered down his back, and he used its momentum to take the green bracelet from Lenore’s hand. He’d come this far. He wasn’t leaving until he’d been cleansed of the demons that kept him up at night.

Lenore watched him struggle with the piece of plastic for a few moments before seeming to take pity on him and fastening it around his wrist while he held still like a child.

“You can change your mind.”

Gideon’s fingers, already still and silent on the edge of the plastic, went tense. He looked to Lenore, who’d tilted her head, studying him.

“At any time, if you’d like a different wristband,” she said. “Just ask someone with a name tag.”

Surprise made his eyebrows furrow. It sounded so…clinical. He hadn’t expected the shadowy world he was entering to have name tags. It didn’t matter. They could dress it up, but this was still a place of sordid pleasure and pain inflicted on those who couldn’t stop craving it.

Lenore’s heels clicked as she stepped away, leaving room for her next question. “Are you ready?”

I read another of this author’s books, Worth It, back when it was released, and enjoyed it, so wanted to try a new series from this author. It was a much different book than that series.

Gideon and Mal had a insta-lust/insta-love happen when meeting in the kink club Mal was running. Gideon, coming from an extremely religious and abusive home finally has the courage to enter it, then has a scene with Mal almost immediately. I struggled with this a bit, because although they talked through some stuff, there were pieces that I felt would have been better served by having deeper discussions. They kept advancing their scenes, and even with a setback or two, moved onward. Their relationship became serious very quickly.

Mal, having lost both is parents, found a father of sorts in someone who was a mob boss. Somehow he was able to keep the business he ran for Nick clean? That seemed improbable to me. Especially with all the other “businesses” Nick ran, it just didn’t ring as realistic. I also struggled with Nick suddenly having issues with Mal, someone he had raised from a teenager to the man he was.

Gideon and Mal, once they found their rhythm became very much in sync, in their private lives, and put the other man first when things became untenable with Nick. They were able to make decisions together as a couple, even as Gideon learned about his submissive side.

The book was somewhat disjointed with their relationship being a big portion in the middle, then the issues with Nick on either end, and lightly sprinkled elsewhere. It didn’t help that the timeline felt a bit off in places, as well. Overall, the book was okay, but not something I would go back to re-read.

3.5 pieces of eye candy

Writing is just one of the many ways Chloe gets her storytelling fix. In her other life, she sings and acts to fulfil the urge, and is never far from a stage.

When not writing, Chloe cooks with too much garlic, sharpens her eyeliner to a deadly point, and tries to accept that she’s turning into one of those people who only wears one color. (Pink.)

✨TEASER: SINS OF THE FATHER by @isabel__lucero releasing November 17! #PreOrderHere:a.co/d/3wodrb1 Why you will love this book…❤️‍🔥Taboo/Forbidden✟ Priest x Mafia hitman ❤️‍🔥Opposites attract ✟ Antihero❤️‍🔥MM romanceHe comes to me through a lattice in a confessional booth in my church. He’s brash, vulgar, and confessing to things that would send him to hell, and yet, I find myself intrigued by the mysterious man.His sinful words thrill me. His way of life, so different from my own, has me coveting excitement that’s long been missing. The more I’m around him, the more I realize how long I’ve been deprived of so much, and the more my own deviance begins to emerge. On paper, nothing about the two of us makes sense, and there are many reasons why I should keep my distance. I try to be pious, but if anyone were to find the skeletons in my closet, I’d be excommunicated from the church. When something from my past reveals itself, I find myself being pulled into a way of life I didn’t think would be in my future, and now I straddle the line between right and wrong. Morality vs necessity. I’m a priest. He’s a murderer. But we’re both sinners.✨INFLUENCERS: Sign up to review here: bit.ly/sinsofthefathersignup#isabellucero #kindleunlimited #mmromance #bookstagram #booktok #romancebooks #spicyromance The Author Agency ...
