Not even his mother’s funeral can convince self-proclaimed party boy Zach Johnson to tone down his snark or think about settling down. He is who he is, and he refuses to change for anyone. When straight-laced, compassionate Aaron Paulson claims he’s falling for him, Zach is certain Aaron sees him as another project, one more lost soul for the idealistic Aaron to save. But Zach doesn’t need to be fixed, and he refuses to be with someone who sees him as broken.
Patience is one of Aaron’s many virtues. He has waited years for a man who can share his heart and complete his life, and he insists Zach is the one. Pride, fear, and old hurts wither in the wake of Aaron’s adoring loyalty, and as Zach reevaluates his perceptions of love and family, he finds himself tempted to believe in the impossible: a happily ever after.

Emile City. A city where good gay men go to find love.
He Completes Me follows the return of Zach to Emile City after leaving at 18 because of his bigoted family. He comes back for his mothers funeral, despite not having contact with her for years. He plans to return home the next day…and then he meets Aaron.
Aaron is the nicest man on the planet by far. Not a bad thing to say about anyone and willing to drop everything to help whoever needs helping. However, with Aaron he is always willing to put aside his own needs in order to take care of others, leaving himself wanting more.
These two could not be more opposite and yet, love at first sight happens.

This book follows their story, from meeting to dating to long distance relationship until they find their way back to love in EC.
What I loved about these men and their story was CC’s ability to show their growth over time. Not just in their relationship, but also as independent people. From Aaron learning to put other people on the back burner while he focused on his choice of Zach, to Zach learning what he could do to continue to contribute to their household. They learned how to change together and still honor their bond.
Their love story was great, in that it showed all facets of their relationship, as well as their changes in their personalities, as they grew and matured as people.
Narration on this was very good. Not a lot of variation in tone, but with first person, that can be a bit of a challenge to decide how to best give voice to the characters and keep true to the story.
I am really loving this series of closely connected but not fully connected characters, and can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Cardeno C. – CC to friends – is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few “awwws” into a reader’s day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno’s stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever- after sunset.
Cardeno’s Home, Family, and Mates series have received awards from Love Romances and More Golden Roses, Rainbow Awards, the Goodreads M/M Romance Group, and various reviewers. But even more special to CC are heartfelt reactions from readers, like, “You bring joy and love and make it part of the every day.”
