Hello all! Thank you so much for joining me here today for the first stop of my blog tour celebrating the upcoming release of my Dreamspun Desires story Forgive and Forget. For those who may not know about Dreamspun Desires, it’s Dreamspinner Press’s category romance line. Like many romance readers, I grew up reading all kinds of romance, including category romance from Harlequin. You know the ones. Those fabulous tropes about secret babies, amnesia, heiresses, mistaken identities, and secret heirs. We had billionaires and cowboys, sheikhs and secretaries. I had so much fun with those books, so when the opportunity came up to write my own category romance, I jumped all over it.

Obviously with category romance there’s a certain level of predictability. The lovers will always get their HEA. The fun part is what happens on the way there. In Forgive and Forget, we get a sweet, fun little romance with humor and even sexy times. We meet Joe Applin, a somewhat eccentric, awkward, and shy pie maker who rarely leaves his little pie shop in the heart of New York City. Joe doesn’t believe in happily ever afters. Not anymore. He’s content with his life of baked goods, and making his customers happy. He has his motley crew, Bea, Elsie, and Donnie who help him run Apple’n Pies. Enter our mysterious stranger. Well, more like, find a mysterious stranger face down in the garden. Which is where Joe finds the man he calls Tom. Tom has amnesia. Que dramatic music! Tom is sinfully handsome, dangerous, and gives Joe the impression he tastes sweeter than pie.

Joe’s uneventful life is turned upside down and inside out. Just who is Tom and what kind of trouble is he in? How far is Joe willing to go to help a man he knows nothing about? A man who doesn’t even know who he is or what he does? Is apple truly the king of pies? Will Joe ever get the last word over Bea? Find out the answers to these questions and more in Forgive and Forget.

Do you have a favorite category romance trope? Is it mistaken identity? Amnesia? Secret billionaire cowboy sheikhs with secret babies??

synopsis

perf4.250x7.000.indd
As the owner of Apple’n Pies, Joe Applin leads a quiet, uneventful life, content to spend his days serving customers who come from all over to eat his delicious homemade pies. Along with his motley crew—Bea, Elsie, and Donnie—Joe couldn’t be happier in his little kingdom of baked goods and java.

Experience has taught Joe that love is overrated—and at times dangerous. He has no intention of repeating past mistakes. But then he meets a mysterious, handsome man with amnesia, and Joe can’t deny something sweet is in the works. He isn’t one to take risks, not with his heart and certainly not with his life, but the more time he spends with the man he knows as Tom, the closer he is to losing both.

denise reviewI will admit to being a bit of a Charlie Cochet junkie. I mean how can you deny it when you have the same books (yes, multiple) in three different formats? But whatever, we all need some addiction in our lives, right? So, getting to read Forgive and Forget early was no hardship, I’ll assure you. And I have been enjoying the Dreamspun Desires series so much!

This book had intrigue, amnesia, guys with guns, and a sweet guy named Joe who just wanted to live his life contentedly making his pies and enjoying his quirky friends. Tom falls into his life, and Joe turns all his previously staunch beliefs that he should be alone on its side. What an enjoyable ride this was!

Always some sexy times with Charlie’s book, but this book was fun, with some hotness, bad guys flirting around the edge, and a mystery to unravel. In the end, Joe…and Tom…get their man, and of course there is your HEA, because it wouldn’t be a Harlequin-esque book, or a Charlie Cochet novel, if there wasn’t an HEA.

I finished this book smiling, and wanting to go right back and read it again, and isn’t that exactly what you want in a novel?

4.5 pieces of eye candy for this one. And a re-read for sure!

excerpt
Ethan must have nodded off at some point, waking to another coffee from Clare and a ten-minute warning that breakfast was about to be brought up to the patients. His neck ached, and he was semi curled up in the hard chair.
“Thought you needed this. If you want to go to the cafeteria, I can keep an eye on Adam.”
“No, I’ll stay here. Thank you, though.”
“I’ll see if I can get someone to bring you up something.”
A quick glance at his watch showed Ethan it was a few minutes after six. He checked his email. He’d only sent the information to Navy Liaison at late last night, but there was already a message back saying all efforts would be made to get the information to Cole Strachan. There was a group joke sent by one of the shift officers back at the precinct, and some spam. Other than that, nothing.
Ethan stood and stretched tall, sipped his hot coffee, and watched the April morning unfold before his eyes. Clare managed to scrounge up some pastries, and he ate them at the window, a hundred thoughts racing through his head.
A nurse disappeared into Adam’s room, and Ethan tensed in expectation. He desperately wanted to go in there, but would Adam even be interested in talking to him?
“Are you Ethan?” the nurse asked. The tray in her hand carried untouched food.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“You can go in. He’s asking for you.”
As he started to walk past her, she thrust the tray at him. There was a plate of eggs, and a sorry-looking pancake. “Try to get him to eat some of this,” she said.
He took the tray, because he didn’t really have a choice, and went into Adam’s room, kicking the door shut behind him. There was no one in the bed, but the bathroom door was closed, so Ethan assumed that was where the errant Adam was. He placed the tray on the table and waited, looking out of the same window Adam had been standing at last night. From this angle and at this height, Ethan could see the water of Lake Michigan and watch the hospital parking lot grow busier by the minute.
The bathroom door opened. Ethan instinctively turned and wished he hadn’t, because now he was staring. Not so much at the pajama bottoms that rode low on slim hips, or the broad chest that had a smattering of hair, tapering to a happy trail downward, nor to the muscles in Adam’s arms. No, Ethan was staring at the scars—new ones and some way older by the look of them—bruises purple and yellow and green, and the tattoos.
Tribal tattoos circled Adam’s arms, over his right shoulder, and down onto his pec: big swathes of dark ink with finer detail in curls around muscles. Something that looked like old burns marked his neck. A body that had seen a lot, felt a lot.
“I don’t remember them,” Adam said, his voice lost. He ran his fingers over the tattoos as if touching them would bring back memories. “They must have hurt, don’t you think?”
Ethan thought of the small tattoo over his heart and recalled the discomfort of getting it. His hadn’t hurt; the million tiny pricks into his skin were nothing.
“Maybe,” he offered.
Adam turned a little and checked the tattoos in the mirror, peering close. “I wonder what they mean?”
When he turned, he exposed more marks on his back and the fine lines of a horse standing on his hind legs. Ethan inhaled sharply.
“What?” Adam snapped, attempting to see his back even though he couldn’t get the right angle. “What is it?”
“Your horse.”
Adam frowned. “That is my horse? I want to see that again, the detective took a photo but he didn’t have a copy for me.”
Ethan pulled out his cell and snapped a shot of the beautiful tattoo, then passed the phone to Adam, who stared at the picture.
“Why is it—” Any energy seemed to leave him in the exhalation of a sigh, and he slumped to sit on his bed. “—I remember this is a cell phone, but I don’t recall patterns on my own skin?”
From his research Ethan learned terms like brain centers and retrograde amnesia, alongside traumatic stress, he didn’t understand a lot of it. “I have no idea.”
Adam curled into himself, hunching over his knees, looking utterly defeated.
Compassion welled inside Ethan, and he sat next to his old friend, pushing the tray toward him. “Eat your eggs,” he said gruffly.
Adam side-eyed him and huffed before taking the tray and resting it on the small hospital table. He forked some into his mouth, grimacing as he chewed and swallowed, but at least he ate half of what was there, and one cold, dry pancake.
“I need a proper breakfast,” Adam grumped.
“Like what?”
“Hot fresh bacon,” Adam said immediately, paling at what he was saying. “I think that I love bacon. I’d eat plates of the stuff if you gave them to me.”
“And real pancakes,” Ethan added. He reached over and poked at the sorry excuse for one that had been served. “But not like this one. Fluffy, steaming pancakes.”
Adam nodded and darted his tongue out to collect a small piece of egg resting on his lips. “Maple syrup,” he added softly.
“You always liked maple syrup.”
Adam finished the eggs and grimaced again. “When we get out of here, will you find me bacon?”
“Of course.”
“Real bacon, and pancakes with maple syrup. That sounds just like what I want to eat.”
Ethan’s chest tightened as Adam looked up at him under his eyelashes, his dark eyes holding humor. Adam and Justin had spent their childhoods getting Ethan to do what they wanted: the older brother with money from a part-time job, the one with the car. And he’d done everything they asked.
“I wouldn’t take you anywhere bad,” Ethan said
Adam pushed the tray to one side. “I need a shower, and then we go, right?”
“Right.”
“You should take photos of all my tattoos, so you could maybe find out more about me.”
“I know who you are. The rest will follow when your memories return.” He didn’t want to say that he’d already decided to email the tattoo of the horse to Jen, just in case she could track down where it had been done. It was a beautiful piece of work, and likely whoever did it would have it in a portfolio somewhere. Of course, that was a needle in a haystack. Who knew where Adam had been in the last twelve years? Chicago, where he was now? Or had he traveled from Montana to another city?
Adam looked at him, confused. “You said I disappeared. How old was I when that happened? Fifteen, you said?”
“You were nearly sixteen.”
Adam glanced down at himself, “And I’m twenty-eight now, so what happened in between?” He stood up and half turned. “You should get them all.”
Ethan did as Adam wanted, and pulled all the photos into one email, sending the whole lot to Jen with a particular request about tracking down the artist. Meanwhile, Adam went into the bathroom, closed the door, and left Ethan staring at the wood.

But Arik soon realizes that certain members of Reg’s motorcycle club are into things he can’t have any part of. Thank you to Andrew for joining us with a Guest Post!

When I was developing this final story for the Senses series, I wanted to return to the world of Ken and Patrick, but I didn’t want to return to them directly. They had already had their happy ending and I didn’t want to revisit that. So Arik was born. He’s an artist who has been injured. Before his accident, he entered a contest and won an internship of sorts with Ken. He hesitantly accepts his prize, believing that his accent has also claimed his talent. Arik of course receives help form Ken, but more importantly, he meets Reg, a garage owner who’s everything Arik fears.

Reg is large, bald, and intimidating and Arik reacts with pure fear the first time he meets him. But Arik is more than just his size and intimidating package. He’s an artist of sorts himself and he has a heart as big as his body. The big man with a heart of gold is a character type I have written before and it’s one I love. With many of us, our exteriors say one thing, but it isn’t until we learn what’s inside that we truly know a person.   This story is very much about two people who must learn to look inside themselves and be willing to look deeply into others in order to find happiness.

paula review
Another great book by Andrew Grey. I absolutely adored Arik and Reg. My heart went out to Arik and what he had suffered in his past. His belief that he can’t do what he loves to do because of his injury and the feelings he shows really made me feel for him and connect with him. I thought that Reg was a great counterpart to him. His attitude and personality was so endearing to me. I thought Andrew did a wonderfull job keeping the story moving and entertaining.

I have read a lot of Andrew Grey’s books but this was the first of the Senses Series that I have read.

This is the story of injured artist, Arik who is invited to paint with famous artist Ken Brighton. Despite the injury he goes to at least meet the painter. While there studying with Ken to overcome his injury and learn to create with different methods he meets Ken’s friend Reg, the local mechanic and gas station owner.

Arik is a broken man, just recovered from his injury and scared of his own shadow. Over time he becomes comfortable with Reg who is a much larger man than him. Arik and Reg start spending time together when Reg introduces him to his friends from the biker club. Arik, having grown up with junkies as parents instantly knows what some members of the club are doing and breaks it off with Reg. Not willing to lose Arik, Reg cuts ties with the biker club but that presents a whole new set of problems for Reg.

Arik will need to let go of a hurtful past before he can envision a future with Reg. Will Reg sit by and wait for Arik to come to his senses?

I enjoyed this book. Arik was pretty broken and sometime care across as whiny but by the end of the book I was fully invested. The story had good build up, there weren’t any plot holes and it was a great HEA. A solid three star read.

excerpt

“Arik, I’m glad you made it.” He set his palette aside and walked toward Arik, extending his hand. Arik hesitated, then pulled his right hand out of his pocket. He could tell instantly when Mr. Brighton noticed. He looked into Arik’s eyes, meeting his gaze straight on. That alone was different. So was the gentle, yet firm, way Ken gripped his damaged hand. “It’s good to meet you.”

Arik looked away. “I should explain. I really wanted to meet you, but I thought about calling to cancel because—” He looked down at his hand. “Well, I’m not an artist any longer. I was so thrilled when you called, and I wanted to meet you so badly, but… I probably shouldn’t waste your time.”

“Slow down. And please call me Ken.” He reached over, grabbed a stool, and moved it closer, motioning for him to sit. “Let’s take things one at a time. This is my partner, Patrick,” Ken said, and Arik extended his hand. Patrick nodded and shook it. “He isn’t able to speak because of an accident, but he’s very adept at other forms of communication.”

“It’s nice to meet you,” Arik said, and Patrick smiled, his eyes warming even more. Patrick lightly patted Arik’s hand and then released it. Patrick then left the room, closing the studio door. “Like I said, I shouldn’t have come and wasted your time.”

Ken didn’t say anything, just walked to the corner of his studio and returned with a painting that Arik instantly recognized as his contest entry. “All of the entries were sold at a charity auction, and yours was the only one I bought. It spoke to me in a way that went right to my heart. I had to have it.”

“I did that a year ago….” He looked down at his hand and slid it back into his pocket. He hated seeing it.

“Your work is gorgeous and shows great talent,” Ken said.

“Well, it shows what I once had.”

Ken continued looking at the painting.

“That was my grandmother’s home,” Arik said. “The contest guidelines were for us to paint a memory. I chose a time when I was happiest. My grandmother had a house on the lake in Muskegon. There was a swing in the backyard under a tree, and she and I used to sit in it and she read me stories.”

“She must have been a gardener.”

Arik nodded. “She loved flowers and even bred roses. The purple ones and the orange ones in the picture are ones she bred herself. She loved the color, but I think she was after scent more than anything. I remember her always smelling like roses. They were her passion.”

“You didn’t put her in the picture,” Ken remarked.

Arik smiled. “She’s there.” He pointed to the row of color that disappeared along the side of the house. “She’s in those flowers. She told me once that after she was gone, she’d live on as long as someone grew her flowers.”

Two Pet Dicks by John Inman: Release Day Review

March 18, 2016 by Denise

two pet dickssynopsis

Old friends and business partners, Maitland Carter and Lenny Fritz, may not be the two sharpest pickle forks in the picnic basket, but they have big hearts. And they are just now coming around to the fact that maybe their hearts are caught in a bit of turmoil.

Diving headfirst into a whirlwind of animal mayhem, these two self-proclaimed pet detectives strive to earn a living, reunite a few poor lost creatures with their lonely owners, and hopefully not make complete twits of themselves in the process.

When they stumble onto a confusing crime involving venomous reptiles, which is rather unnerving since they’re more accustomed to dealing with misplaced puppy dogs and puddy tats, they take the plunge into becoming real-life crime stoppers.

While they’re plunging into that, they’re also plunging into love. They just haven’t admitted it to each other yet.

denise review

Now, remember, I have only ever read John Inman’s rom-coms. I haven’t gotten the bravery up to read his heartbreaking stuff, because I have a feeling he will leave me in a shivering ball on the floor with a pile of tissues and snot around me…but anyway, I digress…

I finished Two Pet Dicks this morning. EVERY SINGLE TIME I read his books, EVERY TIME, there is a moment where I say (usually out loud at an inappropriate moment) “Holy Fucking Shit” (excuse my language, #sorrynotsorry), and today was no exception. Seriously, John, I thought “Oh, I am cruising through, almost done, and still loving it”…then you hit me in the face with THAT???? You are the master, and I love you for it.

These two guys were bumbling pet detectives, reminiscent of old school black and white movies. The idea that they were able to solve a missing pet, much less crimes attached to those pets, is a little insane. Finding their way out of a paper bag at points could be a stretch for them. 🙂 And yet…somehow they do.

Lifelong friends, and lovers of convenience, they finally begin to realize that they are also the other person in their life who means more than anything. They can count on each other, no matter what. And when they finally come to the conclusion that was right in front of them all along you can see the love between them.

Their clients are everything from loud, inappropriate men who have taught their parrot the worst language you can imagine, to an herpatologist (or whatever Lenny thinks to call it that day) who has a less than ethical take on the profession. As always, John’s ability to take a supporting character and give them a personality and life of their own is without measure to any other author.

What a light-hearted, enjoyable read, with that “OH NO, YOU DIDN’T!!!” moment that John seems to like to give me out of the blue. These two men were sexy, so sweet, and made this just a ton of fun to read.

I have always recommended John’s books to anyone who asks and this one will be no exception. I just have one request, please. Will we get to see more of Jamie, please? That young man is going to take over the world (or at least parts of San Diego), I just know it! 🙂

Heather's Review
I love NR Walker! I figured we’d go ahead and get that out of the way before I say anything else. She’s one of those authors I will shank someone if they try to get between me and one of her new releases.
The Spencer Cohen Series is no different. I was curious how book two would play out given the fact that Spencer’s job and a new relationship wouldn’t necessarily mesh well. While there were times I felt like the job for Lance was a bit too convenient (crafted so there wouldn’t be any possible issues with anyone complaining about possible cheating), NR Walker pulled it all together in the end.
What strikes me the most about Spencer and Andrew is their connection. Yes, the sexual chemistry is well written, but it’s their banter and the times they aren’t fooling around that made me fall in love with them. As I read book two, I formed a clearer picture in my mind of who they are as people and as a couple.
I hated this book. No, I didn’t. (read the book and you’ll understand)

Fresh start, new beginning, a clean slate…

Brice Taggerty, better known simply as Tag, wasn’t worried about coming out after all these years. Actually, he delighted in the idea of feeling free enough to face who he always knew he was. He didn’t need acceptance, nor was he around to be admired or win any popularity contests. In fact, all he wanted was an average humdrum, mundane life. After making a successful career out of flying around the world photographing the world’s most beautiful models in exotic locations, he was excited to throw away his passport and plant his feet firmly on solid ground…and find that someone special.

Fletcher Davis, a former search and rescue helicopter pilot, was ready to start his life again. After fifteen years of dealing with danger on a daily basis and his past at long last behind him, he secured a new job flying for a commercial airline and just may have found the perfect place to call home. What he didn’t count on was a hot enticing neighbor or his past to catch up with him. All Fletcher wanted was a sense of normalcy, routine…and someone special to share it with.

When finally they meet, will sparks fly, fireworks go off, will it be love at first sight, or will their histories keep them apart?

Irrefutable Teas 1

excerpt

There was a long gravid pause before he took his eyes off of mine. I wanted to ask if he was gay, because converse to what most people thought, there was no neon sign that lit up when two gay men inhabited the same area. The question was sitting on the tip of my tongue, but he interrupted me before I could get it out.

“Your flashlight,” he said, handing it to me. “Thanks again.”

I took the flashlight nodding my head, internally kicking myself for not being my usual bold, over confident self. For holding back. Why was I suddenly nervous? Why was I having trouble forming words? I felt so out of my element…but I was essentially. Opening my mouth to speak, Fletcher again beat me to the punch.

“You want to go for dinner?” he asked. “I mean, we could go to Duke’s. They serve other food as well as onion rings, right?”

“Yeah,” I laughed. “I think they serve fries too.”

“How does seven sound?” he asked, the sparkle in those beautiful green eyes zapping the breath from my lungs.

“Sounds like a date,” I said, catching my own faux pas, just as it squeezed past my lips.

Fletcher gave me a sidelong glance. “Too soon for that,” he chuckled. “Let’s get to know one another first.”

Not sure if he was joking or not, I allowed myself to chuckle along, watching as he stepped away. He was unlocking his door and turned in my direction with a smile, before going inside. Maybe my mind was playing tricks with my heart, but my doubts were beginning to melt away. A straight man didn’t look at another man the way Fletcher looked at me. His eyes penetrated my sole, and his smile grabbed hold of my gut in a way no one ever had. Not even Dyson had made me feel like this.
