Chapter One

“Damask? Who ordered the
damask? Certainly not me. I wanted
silk—the soft sage green silk I sent you the swatch of last week!” Chase broke
the connection on his cellular with as much conviction as he could manage.
He swore, wishing he’d taken
that call on his office phone, a good old-fashioned handset device that allowed
you to slam down a receiver so a caller could feel the wrath as you truly meant
it. He shook his head incredulously. Silk. Soft sage green silk—the perfect
material for Ms. Conrad’s penthouse boudoir curtains—and some buffoon at the
warehouse filled his order with damask! The horror swamped Chase, especially
since he didn’t have the opportunity to break a phone receiver at the warehouse
fulfillment worker’s expense.
Only one immediate cure
popped into his mind at this moment—a nine-thirty-in-the-morning moment when a
glass of Scotch whisky, neat, was out of the question—a good, strong cup of the
blackest coffee Chase could find, along with the richest, most calorie-laden
warm cinnamon roll, dripping in buttery, sugary icing. Well, at least the black
coffee, he considered as he looked for the damned silk order form all over his
desk at Just For You, the full-service concierge home store where he was a partner
and worked as the resident interior design expert. I’d have the cinnamon roll and instantly regret the choice. Maybe I’ll
settle for a muffin—easier on the waistline but decadent enough to soothe my
pain, especially if they still have those carrot ones with the cream cheese
Chase bolted from the desk
chair with what he knew to be unnecessary force, grabbed his cell phone, and
left his office. Giving his office door as much of a slam as he dared—what if
Stefan or, even worse, Kurt had clients in their offices?—he purposefully made
his way down the wide internal hallway and out to the reception area, stopping
there to address the receptionist and interrupting her from what he was sure
must be a very juicy romance novel.
“Wanda, I’m stepping out for
about an hour. If those imbeciles at the warehouse call about the Conrad order,
tell them I’ll get back to them in about twelve hundred calories.”
Chase barreled past a
stunned and totally-clueless Wanda, down the elevator and headed out onto the
sidewalk. He didn’t care if she understood. Right now, he just didn’t care
about much. The morning air still crisp, Chase took a long, deep breath, as if
clearing his lungs would rid him of the frustration the morning had already
given him. A short walk to the trendy coffee shop on the next corner would be
just the thing to cleanse his mood and give him a fresh outlook for a new
beginning on the day. What had happened to him last week, along with snafus
like this morning, were cutting into his otherwise positive outlook about
himself personally and his burgeoning career as one of the areas up-and-coming
new designers. His thoughts drifted back to how the trouble had all began.
“What do you mean you’re going to ask her to marry you?”
Chase could still remember
the shrieking tone in his voice when he asked his lover of several months how
he could want to be with a woman…and forever. Chase and Brad had been quite the
item—or at least it seemed that way to Chase.
Yes, Brad had been dating
Sylvia when they first met. In fact, Chase remembered the first time they’d
laid eyes on each other—and shortly after, hands, tongues, and…well, everything
else. Their meeting had occurred during one of Brad’s dates with the woman.
Chase had been invited to a
big gathering at a local estate. He’d been privileged to design and supervise a
huge redecoration project there. The invitees numbered over a hundred and Chase
frankly had to stifle yawns of boredom. Good business mandated, though, that he
hang around and be recognized as the person who created the luxurious ambiance
the guests so enjoyed. Regardless of the money their firm spent on advertising,
the best source of leads remained word of mouth and networking. Given how many
people were in attendance and the quantity of champagne the waiters seemed to
be pouring, there would be plenty of word of mouth happening.
He watched as the
hostess—what a pain she had been to work with—wove among the guests, shaking
hands, laughing, making conversation. He even noticed that while she
circulated, her husband used the opportunity to visit with every young, pretty
thing in the room, copping the occasional feel. Chase just shook his head in
wonderment. The woman was a dyed-in-the-wool bitch, but even she didn’t deserve to be disrespected in
that way, especially in front of her guests at her very own house.
What a circus. If I stay about
a half hour longer, I should be able to leave without sacrificing any future
Chase grabbed another glass of champagne, leaned back against the
stone pillar, and resumed his favorite pastime—checking out the men at the
party. The women held little allure for him, unless they had deep pockets and a
need to hire a decorator. Chase’s interest focused more on the faces, builds,
asses, and bulges of the male guests. He hadn’t been laid in quite some time
and the tension built in him.
He’d just about determined
the dark-haired man with the older blonde woman had to be gay and a hired
escort for the night when someone brushed against his shoulder—a little too
close to be accidental.
“I don’t think you’re
checking out the woman for some action there, pal. I think you’re sizing up her
date. Do you think he’s the right size for you?” the masculine voice whispered
softly, its timbre filled with innuendo.
Chase steeled himself not to
turn around. The thrill the hot, suggestive statement promised had gone
straight to his groin and his dick woke immediately.
Taking a deep breath, Chase
kept his eyes forward but turned his head ever-so-slightly in the direction of
the voice at his shoulder, replying in the same tone the man used. “How very
astute of you. But to answer your question… I don’t know. They say size isn’t
important, but I’m thinking I could use long, hard, and large right about now.”
Chase smiled inside as he considered he’d returned as good as the mystery voice
had given, and the excitement of the game they played made him even harder as
he finished his statement.
“Well, if you need long,
hard, and large right now, maybe you don’t have to search too far away. Why don’t
you just look here?”
Chase turned to face the
source of the mysterious voice and fell straight into the deepest nearly-black
eyes he’d ever seen. The man, his exact height and build, stood eye-to-eye and
so close they were nearly nose-to-nose. Chase’s cock twitched, and he considered
briefly if the mystery man’s did the same, they could duel like swordsman—horny
maleness seeking satisfaction.
“So, it seems you may have
an interest in fulfilling a need I have,” Chase addressed the man, not moving a
muscle closer or backing away. “It’s a powerful need, and it will take someone
of considerable ardor to satisfy it. Do you think you can handle it?”
The dark-eyed stranger didn’t
flinch when he gave Chase a piercing stare and replied in a thick, even voice, “Handling
you expresses exactly what I had in
mind—right now. And I think you’ll find my ardor sufficient to please.”
Chase wouldn’t play games
any longer. It was becoming rather painful, standing inches from what was
quickly developing into a very promising situation. He gave the man a
meaningful glance and made his way down the steps leading off the pool deck
into the manicured gardens below. He strolled slowly but deliberately to the
darkest, most secluded spot he could find. Once there, he quickly freed his stiff
dick. The head already dripped with the juice of potential fulfillment. He couldn’t
resist the temptation to stroke his organ while he waited, hoping he’d been
followed—and finding out quickly he had.
The handsome stranger’s eyes
widened when he noticed Chase’s hand wrapped around his hardened sex, the head
glistening with pre-cum. The man stepped closer, freed his own cock, and
grasped it firmly.
“Beautiful,” he said before
his mouth descended on Chase’s.
Hot, wet, and demanding,
Chase didn’t think he’d ever wanted a kiss so badly.
Pulling back, he managed to
gasp, “I need your cock.”
“And I need yours,” the man
answered then removed his grip on his own staff and led Chase to switch hands, so
he held the stranger’s length and the man grasped Chase’s firmly.
For the next several
minutes, Chase fought to stay ahead of his feelings and his approaching orgasm.
Chase joined their cocks in the same hand, giving each pull of his sex the
double friction of two men’s hands and the feel of another cock rubbing and
throbbing against his—intense and nasty, needy and primal. He deepened their
kiss—wet and desperate. His tongue probed and darted, matching the cock strokes—hot,
horny. Finally, as if on cue, Chase’s release gave way, along with the man’s,
their cum mixing in their hands.
That surprise encounter had
been the beginning of him and Brad. After their adventure that night, Brad
slipped Chase a business card with his contact information and went back to the
party to find his date and girlfriend, Sylvia, who’d made a trip to the lounge
to freshen up. Chase had known about Sylvia from the beginning, but Brad had
been the hottest and sexiest partner he’d ever had. Besides, Brad had told him
Sylvia was a nice woman that he cared about but their relationship was really
no big deal. Brad spent time with Sylvia and never talked badly about her, but
based upon what Brad had told him, Chase believed he used her more as a ‘beard’
to keep the world at large from discovering what a true ‘man’s man’ he was. Brad
always found time for them to get together—and get together they did. They
couldn’t keep their hands off one another. They’d almost been caught several
Chase closed his eyes while
he waited at the light, remembering the feeling of Brad’s hot, wet mouth
wrapped around his dick. And it had been so long since he’d sunk his cock into
Brad’s sweet, sweet ass or taken Brad’s dick into his.
Brad never promised Chase
anything, but Chase had secretly hoped Brad would realize they were meant to be
together. After all, everything with them seemed to fit perfectly. How can Brad not see that? But just last
week Brad had destroyed his hopes with the news he intended to ask Sylvia to
marry him.
“We can still get together,”
Brad had said.
Stricken and lovesick over
the news, he had his limits—fucking a married man among them. Chase called it
off, then and there. After tears, scotch, and a couple of movie musical DVDs
accompanied by buttery popcorn, he’d readied himself to face the world again.
But what did the world give him? Damask! Damned damask!

Chapter Two
Chase entered the coffee
shop, needing that hot, black coffee more than ever. Luckily, there were only a
couple people ahead of him in the queue, giving him just enough time to
consider his choices of pastry. The desired and dreaded carrot cake slathered
with cream cheese icing tempted him mightily but he tore his gaze away from it,
trying to whip up some interest in the healthier but decidedly boring bran
“Hey, Chase, what’s your
pleasure today?” Mandy, the barista asked. “You look like your dog got run
over, and you don’t even have a dog. No offense.”
“None taken, and anything
that isn’t made of damask or named Brad will work fine,” Chase answered,
knowing Mandy wouldn’t have a clue what the hell he was talking about but not
being able to refrain from spitting out exactly how he felt nonetheless.
“All righty then… One no-damask,
no-Brad coming right up—not. Would you like to try that order again?” Mandy
laughed, and Chase had to smile at her one arched eyebrow and her cute dimples,
even though they did nothing for him that
“Sure, Mand,” he forced a
smile and called her by her nickname to soften his initial comment. Just
because he felt lower than a snake’s belly wasn’t reason to take it out on her.
He was a regular and she was one of his java besties. They’d passed more than a
few hours when she wasn’t busy, commiserating about life disappointments in
general and man problems in specific. “I’ll just take coffee black this time.
Give me the darkest roast you’ve got ready, please.”
“Want a pastry with that?”
Mandy threw the question back over her shoulder to him while she dispensed the
coffee. He could see the steam rising from the brew, and he was hopeful its
warmth would cure what ailed him.
“Nah, thanks though. I think
I’ll behave myself this morning, though tell your Nana that the carrot cake
should be illegal. I’m going to call the police and have them at her door one
of these days.”
That made Mandy smile and
with a wink, she handed him the cup, took his money, and turned to the next
Coffee in hand, Chase made
his way to an empty table in the corner. Maybe a few minutes of quiet and hot
java, would pick him up. He congratulated himself on avoiding the muffin, but
he wasn’t entirely certain he wouldn’t weaken, go back to the counter, and get
it and the carrot cake after all. His
current outlook on life? Down—about as down as anyone could be. The breakup
with Brad had really shattered his confidence in the relationship department.
Wait, could we even have a breakup if Brad kept his
relationship with his girlfriend the entire time? What did we
have besides some really hot sex? How much of a jerk am I, believing him and
cheating with him on the side? Shit. That’s so not me—or at least it’s not who
I thought I was or who I ever wanted to be.
Staring into his steaming
coffee, Chase reflected on the realization he’d wasted months of his life on a
relationship that likely was all in his imagination. Brad had used him. He’d
been nothing to the man he cared for but a sex toy, a fuck buddy. His stomach
dropped with the understanding and made Chase feel even worse, if that were
possible. What an idiot! I deserve
someone who returns my feelings and doesn’t consider me just an easy lay—even
if I acted like one!
And then the business—damn that damask! Chase couldn’t even
get an order right this week. Kurt bouncing off the ceiling was a given. He
involuntarily cringed at the thought of facing that when he got back to his
Kurt, one of the triumvirate
involved in Just for You, along with Stefan and Chase, had turned their boyhood
friendship into a partnership that suited each of their individual talents.
Chase had a knack for color and design detail. Stefan was a master carpenter
and all-around handyman, and Kurt possessed an uncanny ability to market, woo
potential customers, and coordinate the financial and physical details of
project organization and fulfillment. Together they’d forged the most
successful concierge design business in the city—and in a relatively short time.
Chase felt pride in the
three of them. They’d met in grade school and been quite the trio. They were as
different as they were alike, and those similarities and differences were what
made their friendship special.
Chase had always been the
smaller, more slightly built of most of the kids in school and the very
interests that led him to eventually become a decorator also opened him to
harassment and bullying. He was proud of his creative eye and his artistic
abilities now, but during those awkward, formative years, they had been challenging,
to say the least.
He remembered it as if it
were yesterday. He’d been walking home from school one day—he thought it was
during his fifth grade year—when a couple of the older—and much bigger—boys
from his class had cornered him against Mrs. Johnson’s hedgerow.
“Hey, squirt, got any treats
in that bookbag for us?” They’d crowded up to him, making him instantly
fearful. It wasn’t the first time he’d been put upon this way by these boys,
and they had friends who did similar things as well.
Chase hadn’t known what to
say. His bookbag didn’t have anything in it they would like, and he somehow
knew that wasn’t going to bode well for him. So, he just remained silent,
waiting to see what fate would befall him. It seemed the safest route to take.
“What’s the matter, buddy?
Cat got your tongue?” The one named Marv put a beefy palm against Chase’s chest
and pushed him back farther against the hedge. The branches poked his back and
he felt the sting of scrapes against his arms. There’d be some scratches there,
for sure. Still he remained silent. What’s
the point of trying to reason with them?
Suddenly the other
boy—wasn’t Chad his name?—grabbed Chase’s jaw and squeezed his mouth into a
painful pucker.
“Hey, pretty boy? Wanna give
me a treat from your bag—or maybe you want to share another kind? I think
you’re one of those sissy boys who’d rather play dolls with the girls and play
mush-mush games with other boys. Is that the kind of treat you’d like to give
us? Gimme a kissy-kissy.” He’d put his face so close up to Chase’s that Chase
could smell his fetid breath.
Man, who’d want to kiss that mouth?
Chase’s fear was momentarily pierced by that thought and he nearly smiled. Now that would not be a smart thing to do.
Chase just remained silent
and still, hoping against hope that they might move on or at the very least,
not hurt him too badly. He’d closed his eyes to wait for their next taunting
salvo when suddenly the hands that had been grabbing at him were wrenched away,
pulling him forward a bit with them.
The memory of opening his
eyes and seeing two other boys, taller than him and definitely more physical,
holding onto Marv and Chad with relative ease, still stayed with Chase. One of
them—he knew now it had been Kurt—addressed the bullies.
“Now what are the two of you
doing? Don’t you know it isn’t a good thing to bother a friend of ours?” Kurt
shook Marv just a little as he delivered the question in a deceptively sweet
and sing-songy tone.
A friend? Chase had seen these two around the school, but they’d never
met, much less formed a friendship. But at this moment, he wasn’t about to
contradict his rescuer’s statement. About that time, the other boy—Stefan, he’d
later learned—literally picked Chad up and tossed him into a nearby bush.
“Don’t ever let me see you near this guy again. If you know what’s good
for you, you’ll give him a wide berth—unless you want to grow up in that hedge
you tried to back him into, that is.” Stefan wiped his hands on his jeans, as
if needing to clean himself off after putting out the garbage.
Giving Marv a shove so he
landed on top of Chad, Kurt clapped Stefan on the back, they exchanged a high
five, and turned to Chase.
“Hey, dude, I’m Kurt. This
is Stefan. Want to go grab a soda?”
And that’s how it had begun.
Their friendship had only deepened since that day. Chase recalled their awkward
phases and the uncertainty, embarrassment then wonder at the realization they
were all gay. They’d navigated the sometimes-treacherous waters of growth from
being children, to adolescents, and on into adulthood—and they’d done it
together. They’d even come out to their families together. What a night that
had been. They’d planned a multi-family cookout, and over dessert of triple
chocolate cake, they’d broken the news. Chase smiled when he pictured the looks
of shock on some of the faces and the mix of reactions. They’d nearly held
their collective breath until their parents had ultimately come to terms with
what their sons had chosen to share with them en masse. Thankfully everyone had
accepted them and who they’d discovered themselves to be. Chase smiled when he
reviewed the memory.
That night, along with all the other experiences we’ve
shared, forged a bond among us that’s saved my ass on more than one occasion.
Life might be shit right now, but my friends are the best.
He might not have Brad, but
at least Chase had his best buddies and his business, even if he would have to
deal with—
I have got to let go of the damned damask! If they won’t take
it back, maybe I can use it in Mrs. Shaupenouer’s dining room design.
Chase had nearly made peace
with the morning’s material order error when fate made him look up, straight
into the gaze of the best-looking man ever born.
Damn! Who are you and where have you been all my life?
The attraction to the tall,
dark-haired man felled Chase instantly—mentally, emotionally, and physically.
He even felt a little lightheaded, which didn’t really surprise him, since so
much blood seemed to have rushed from his brain to his suddenly wide-awake and
rising-to-attention dick. Dropping his head to stare into his now-empty coffee
cup, he suddenly had more questions than answers.

Who are you? Why are you looking at me? Are you interested? What
should I do now?

Book Title:  Meant For
Author: D.H. Starr
Publisher:  Ai Press (October 1, 2014)
Book Length: 203 pages
Genre: Gay romance; M/M romance

Denise’s Review:

This book is second in a series by D.H. Starr, and features Andrew, who in the first book was the dumped lover of Jeremy, and Peter, the bartender from The Phoenix.

As we find these characters two years later, Jeremy has it in his head to fix Andrew and Peter up, because he feels that their personalities will be the perfect offset to each other.  Uncomfortable with the situation at first, Andrew runs away when the situation becomes too close for comfort, and he feels out of control. Meanwhile, Peter is left wondering what it is he has done wrong, and if this is something worth pursuing.

The men slowly begin to make their way towards each other, backing off a little when things become too involved, but finding that they really do need each other in their lives. Where Andrew needs control in his professional life, he in turn finds he wants to BE controlled in his personal life, something he never had or wanted in his eight years with Jeremy. Meanwhile, Peter has always been the nice guy, says yes always, and finds that taking control in his personal life, gives him the impetus he needs to take control of his future.

Andrew and Peter seemed to really be able to find their way towards one another, slowly and with careful thought. Andrew trying to keep himself from trying to change Peter, while still wanting him to succeed in following his dreams.

Sweet romance, with personal internal angst, some hot sex scenes (the one at the gym leads to some HOT stuff!!!) and of course my favorite, and HEA, with a final determination of four pieces of eye candy.

exercise tormented a distinct part of his body. There was precision to the work
as he focused within, as if he were able to command individual cells to do
their part. Mechanically he progressed from core to limbs as he broke down
muscle tissue so it could build back up even stronger.
one hour passed and the next was well underway, Andrew continued his circuits
until he’d stretched and pulled every fiber of himself. He finished his workout
with a thirty minute run on the treadmill.

sense any lingering stress.
mind was blessedly clear as he carried himself down the stairs to shower and

wasn’t focused on them. The ache from his workout still throbbed in his body
and the penetrating heat of the steam room beckoned him.
made quick work of undressing, aware of the glances he received but ignoring
them. With a skimpy towel, which seemed to be a staple at all sports clubs,
barely clinging to his hips, he entered the small tiled area. Immediately
assaulted by thick billows of vapor, Andrew stood in the middle of the room
gaining his bearings. Slowly, he was able to make images along the benches. He
worked his way to an empty spot where he could have some space.

fixated on the objects in their hands. When the man closest to Andrew leaned
over and took the second guys cock in his mouth, Andrew closed his eyes and
leaned his head back against the wall.
several minutes he simply breathed in and out through his nose. The door opened
and closed a few times and the slurping noises next to him continued, but
Andrew pushed each distraction aside, focusing on the wet heat in the room. As
little as two or three months earlier, he would have watched. Maybe even
participated. But meaningless encounters held no appeal to him any longer.
image of Peter flashed behind his closed lids, along with the imagined

could anyone else?

Each muscle stood out along his powerful frame and, as Andrew surveyed the
physical prowess, he couldn’t help the way his eyes fell naturally to the man’s
groin. Long fingers of one hand cupped the package, rubbing gently and doing
virtually nothing to hide the sizable lump hidden beneath the towel.
the steam blurred Andrew’s vision, he could tell the man was staring at him in
open invitation. Had this been another time, if he hadn’t become so aware of
his isolation, Andrew would have allowed his covering to slide open and his
dick to lay bare for the man to see. He might even allow his hand to drift
towards his groin, playing with himself. But none of those impulses or desires
surfaced. Instead, Andrew closed his eyes once again, shutting out the obvious

one day, the man had managed to wedge his way past the walls Andrew’d constructed to hold his desires at bay. And in
another day Andrew would have a chance to see the guy in action at the gym. At
least he hoped so. After the way he fled Jeremy and Craig’s he wouldn’t be
surprised if Peter backed out. Heaviness settled in his chest. Why should he
care? He barely even knew the guy. Even if he’d met him a few times and admired
him at Phoenix, there was no good reason why he should care if Peter broke
their date.

the rough material covering his skin. His breathing became slightly heavier.

exiting the steam room and wincing at the rush of cool air against his skin.
Securing the towel on his hips, Andrew scampered to his locker and made quick
work of dressing.
The whole time, one question screamed inside
his head. Why didn’t I let that guy blow me? The man was hotter than hell and looked like
he was ready to provide Hoover action on Andrew’s cock. Yet something had
recoiled at the idea of letting someone touch him in that empty, purely
physical way.

Denise’s Review:

For a Reason is the second book in The Sizzling Miami Series, and is set in the hotness that is Miami, Florida. As the book opens, we meet Ian, a man who as a child was thrown away by his mother, and he has done everything he can to keep himself independent, but struggling to find his place in the world.

On his way from Fort Lauderdale to Miami for a job interview, his car breaks down, and the tow truck driver coming to the rescue is Bull, a man who resembles that animal in size and demeanor.

This book seems to come at you in two parts. The falling in love portion between Bull and Ian is part one, which is so sweet, especially when you consider that Bull is a big tattooed hulking guy.  They tiptoe around, and Ian, unsure what love is, because he is a throwaway, they really take their time to come together. But they are just the sweetest couple–with some seriously hot bedroom action!

The second part comes in late in the book when someone from Ian’s family comes calling, wanting to connect. Seeing how they react together, as well as independently is a testament to how being raised in a different environment can color someone’s view.

In the end, the best part was seeing how these two men, once they connected would not allow anything to pull them apart. Although, communication was an issue early on, they were able to bring it together and communication between them was no longer a challenge. Their initial hurdle quickly became their biggest strength as a couple, and with their support of one another, no one would be able to intervene.

I really enjoyed their interactions, and how falling in love made each of them stronger together as well as on their own. My final determination for this book is 4 pieces of eye candy, and I am looking forward to the next in this series.

graze the sensitive flesh. “A good lover knows every inch of his partner’s body
inside and out. He should take the time to arouse them slowly, to find every
trigger point and ensure that the experience only brings pleasure.”

Parting those
cheeks, he didn’t do anything more than look for a full minute, waiting to feel

uncomfortably. “A real man would start with a kiss.” He leaned in and circled
the  exposed hole with his tongue, lapping and probing until Ian’s long
legs trembled. “Arousing and soothing the flesh of his lover, hoping they will
be receptive to their partner’s touch.”
After slicking
his fingers with lube, Bull circled the tight bundle of nerves and nudged one
finger inside as he felt Ian yield to his penetration. Sinking deeper, it was
all he could do not to groan when Ian did. “Touch is tremendously important
between lovers, it creates a connection that speaks of want without words. My
want speaking to yours.”
Gently he
eased another finger in, encouraged by the strangled whimpers filling the room.
Slowly, he pulled out almost all the way before sliding home again until
Ian couldn’t contain his cries of pleasure. “Being attuned to the sounds his
lover makes, the partner learns what brings the most pleasure and takes that
knowledge to heart. His lover’s pleasure becomes more important than his own
and he lives to hear every whimper, every moan, and every harsh breath until
it’s a symphony in his head. He wants to hear it every night, encourage it with
every kiss and caress until it is an addiction that must be fed.”
As he
continued to finger fuck Ian, deliberately stroking the sensitive gland with
every pass, he was pleased to see a drop of precum bead on the head of Ian’s
cock. “The sounds you make are music to my ears. I don’t think I’ll ever get
tired of hearing them.”

Author Bio:

Before I am a writer, I am a
voracious reader who panics when there are less than fifty books on her wish
list. That wasn’t always the case and shamefully I must admit there was a time
early in life that I hated to read. After throwing every possible age
appropriate book my way a relative snuck me my first romance and I have been
hooked ever since.

My love of reading morphed into a
desire to write and I still have old notebooks and floppy disks full of ideas
and partially written plots. While earning my computer degree, and starting on
my career and family, I didn’t write a single word. It wasn’t until I was
buying school supplies for my oldest son that the itch came back. Oddly, I can
sniff out the stationary aisle in any store and have been known to skip an item
on the grocery list in favor of a shiny new notebook.

With the advent of social media I
filled up my feeds with my favorite authors hoping to glean some words of
wisdom as I pounded out half formed ideas with alarming regularity. Two

repetitive themes emerged: To be
a great writer you must read a lot and your butt must be in the chair every day
like it’s a job. Even if you write dribble, you’re writing. The more you write,
the easier it will be to write and the better you will get at writing.

Every day I took the time to
write dribble, every day I told myself I was a writer, and on January 28, 2014
I woke up in the middle of the night with Past Hurts pounding in my head. Within
two months, I also had the foundation for Books 2 and 3 and the Sizzling Miami
Series was born.

When I’m not reading or writing,
I own a successful web design business. My husband and I live in Central
Florida and we’re enjoying life as parents of adults. Whenever possible we hit
the road on the motorcycle and dare anyone to find us.

Denise’s Review:

I have said before and I will say again, if Sara York wrote a to-do list, I would read it (not necessarily do what was on the list, but I would read it). She is an amazing writer, and I cannot imagine how so much goes on in her head at one time, and she manages to get it all out on her laptop AND still lives her life.

To say that I was hesitant to read this would be an understatement. I don’t read apocalypse books. I don’t read walking dead, plague books. EVER! I like happy endings. I like my characters to go along, meet each other, have some sort of angst, and then find their HEA. This was WAY out of my comfort zone.  However, because Sara York wrote it, it was a must read for me. And I was so pleasantly surprised by this book, and so happy that I have a one-click mentality when it comes to this author.

This book follows two high school seniors, just months from graduation, looking towards college, as they watch the entire world be hit by a mutant Ebola-like virus, which kills millions of people within days of the outbreak. They have to work together to keep themselves from getting sick, and from being subject to the “I’ll hurt them before they hurt me” mentality of others they may come across.

As Dean and William begin this journey, they had already previously been involved, although not in a relationship of equals. William definitely had the upper hand from a financial standpoint, and unintentionally held that over Dean. Meanwhile, Dean just obeyed when William said “on your knees”. However, once their safety was threatened, William began to realize that he really was in love with Dean, and set out to prove just that, and hopefully get Dean to follow suit.

With their entire focus on keeping themselves safe, and away from others, they could only depend on each other, and their smarts, to keep them healthy and together from day to day. As the world finds a way to separate them, they must find their way back to each other and their love.

I really just loved this story. It contained what could very well be real world angst for these young men (you never know what could happen in RL) and the utilization of every day items to not only keep them safe and fed, but also to create that angst, was clearly the work of the brilliant mind of this author. These two fell in love, at the same time that they battled to save their lives.

My only regret with this book was I felt like the ending was a bit rushed, rather than letting it play out, and that the final chapter seemed more of an epilogue. But After the End, there was no way to deny this was so well written and I really felt like these two MC’s connected and worked on so many levels. Just another fantastic book by Sara York.

My final determination for After The End by Sara York is 4.5 pieces of eye candy. I really hope you will pick it up! It is a quick read, and one that you will have a hard time putting down!

Author Guest Blog:
Now I’m going to talk about a subject that is
very important, maybe the most important subject I talk about on this blog
tour. Coffee. I know not everyone thinks coffee is important, but the subject
will lead to things that are very important.

I’ve given up coffee for a few months before.
When I was pregnant, I couldn’t touch the stuff, but I’ve also given it up for
various other reasons. Right now, I don’t think I could go without coffee. Even
as I’m writing this, I have a cup of coffee beside me. I like coffee and it
likes me.

There are loads of conveniences I take for
granted. In writing After The End, I picked out a few things I need and emphasized them.

Water. None of us could live without clean
water. What about your favorite foods? Are there certain foods you would be
bereft without? With the sheer number of people in the United States, about three hundred and nineteen million—yes,
that many—our work capacity is huge. We produce a lot of stuff. If all of that
went away, what would you miss most.

In After The End, William and Dean find out
how difficult it is to live once all of the modern conveniences are gone. In
their journey, they both learn a little about themselves too. I hope you’ll
take the journey with William and Dean, and see how close to the edge they
come, and also how far they go for love and for each other.

what to do.”

took his hand and tugged him close. “Let’s eat. We need to keep our strength up
and stay alert. If anything happens, we need to be able to react quickly.”

start with foods that might spoil. We can save the canned goods for last.” Dean
looked around William’s shoulder, amazed by the amount of food on the shelves
and in the bins. Three different juices along with two jugs of milk sat on the
top shelf. “Dang, that’s a lot of food.”

“It is.
My parents always kept the place well stocked. It’s not that we’d eat this much
food, but there were always guests dropping by. Also my parents fed the people
who worked here more than one day a week. We had a maid, a gardener, the
mechanic, and a security guy who were here almost all day every day during the
week. Then there was the chef who liked to cook big meals. My parents gave big
parties so he could show off his skills. It’s crazy how much food goes through
this kitchen when my parents have a big party.”

“I think
we’ll be set here for a while. I wasn’t expecting to see this much food.”

about we heat something up, and we can watch TV while we try to chill.”

liked the idea of hanging out with William. They’d never been in the position
to just hang out. Fear still churned deep inside, but he swallowed it down and
decided to concentrate on what he could control.

heated up some chicken and broccoli in the microwave. While the food warmed, he
grabbed a loaf of crunchy bread from the pantry and cut off a few slices.

“I’ll get
some butter.” Dean opened the refrigerator and thought of all the things that
could go wrong if a large number of people died in the US. Power was something
they all took for granted. Water too. They could eventually end up with
contaminated water and no electricity. He grabbed the butter from the fridge
and shut the door. What if it all went bad? They relied on too many
conveniences. People weren’t going to work. What if everyone stayed home?

Blog Review and Giveway: A Forbidden Rumspringa (Gay Amish Romance Book 1) by Keira Andrews

When two young Amish men find love, will they risk losing everything?

In a world where every detail of life–down to the width of a hat brim–is dictated by God and the all-powerful rules of the community, two men dare to imagine a different way. At 18, Isaac Byler knows little outside the strict Amish settlement of Zebulon, Minnesota, where there is no rumspringa for exploration beyond the boundaries of their insular world. Isaac knows he’ll have to officially join the church and find a wife before too long, but he yearns for something else–something he can’t name.

Dark tragedy has left carpenter David Lantz alone to support his mother and sisters, and he can’t put off joining the church any longer. But when he takes on Isaac as an apprentice, their attraction grows amid the sweat and sawdust. David shares his sinful secrets, and he and Isaac struggle to reconcile their shocking desires with their commitment to faith, family and community.

Now that they’ve found each other, are they willing to lose it all?

Note: Contains explicit sexual situations and graphic language. This is not an inspirational/Christian romance.

Denise’s Review:

Let me just say, this is not your grandmother’s Amish romance. 🙂 You will not walk away thinking, “oh, that is sweet, they kissed and now they are getting married”.

This is a M/M romance set in an Amish community. The most creative basis for a book that I have ever read. In the end, it was about love, and love knowing no bounds, including strict religious societal bounds. But what an amazing premise, to set it in an Amish society was extraordinarily creative, and I’ll say it….HOT!!!!

The title of the book speaks to what you feel in the book, it is a Forbidden Rumspringa.  Wikipedia describes it as: “Rumspringa normally begins around the age of 14 to 16 and ends when a youth chooses baptism within the Amish church, or instead leaves the community.” It is a time for young men and women to decide where their future lies, by testing their own boundaries and accepting their consequences. In this case, two men embark on a forbidden one, that would leave them without their family, without their church, and wandering in the outside world with no direction.

This book was surprising to me in so many ways. The first thing that hit me almost right away was the wealth of information for an Amish community that the author included in this book. Even when you didn’t realize that was what was happening, you were getting information on what an Amish community looks like, from one society to the next (hint: they are not all the same). The research this author must have done was incredible. From whether they were allowed to have reflective triangles on the back of their buggies, to the use of rubber or elastic, to eating in restaurants, all this and more is included in this book. I really felt I was getting an education into the society, while reading about two beautiful men falling in love.

Another surprise, was more internal. I got butterflies again. (I know, sounds corny, but let me explain.) I have been reading m/m for about a year now, and I have soaked up well over a hundred books in that time. I wouldn’t say that I have gotten jaded, exactly, but I have an idea what to expect. This book, as the two MC’s were falling in love, would give me that little feeling in my stomach when they are just about to kiss, that “awwww” moment, where you can’t wait to see how it plays out. I will admit that I haven’t had that in a little while. It was that feeling that I used to get when I first started reading m/f romances back in high school. Forbidden! And there are sex scenes (remember, this is not your grandmother’s Amish romance) and they are hot and steamy. Just saying…the workbench scene…**fans self**

David and Isaac were such a perfect match together. David being more “worldly”, doing things like watching movies, and selling furniture online, all secretly, while being the sole financial support for his family. Meanwhile Isaac hasn’t had a Coke in 10 years, isn’t allowed to read anything beyond the bible and other approved books, and is told to go and work for David, despite being 18. Their love grew over months, not insta-love, and they just fit together. Knowing that what they were doing was seen as wrong by everyone in their community, and yet, from the beginning, they knew that it felt right when they were together, natural.

As the book was winding down, and I could see the percentage drifting closer and closer to 100% with no real resolution yet, I will admit to having gotten nervous. I thought, how can this be wrapped up to an HEA or HFN in just a few pages, and leave me feeling satisfied? Will there be a cliffhanger? Will I want to throw my phone through into the next room? Well, thank goodness, I was proven wrong, although here’s where the author surprised me once again. We did find the HFN that I was hoping for, but at that moment I thought “wow, that seemed rushed to me, I don’t feel like the book should just finish here”. And then I read the words “Journey with Isaac and David in A Clean Break coming in early 2015” and suddenly my heart was light and happy again, and I was able to feel completely satisfied. They had their HFN, and I was still able to see how they continued onto their HEA next year.

I don’t think I need to say this, but I will state for the record, this book gets 5+ pieces of eye candy for me, and I will be sitting by my kindle waiting for book number 2, and beating back anyone that gets in the way of Ms. Andrews completing the follow up book. Read this!!!

Blog Tour Stop, Review and Giveaway: TAKE by Ella Frank

TAKE – verb: to reach for and hold in one’s hands or get into one’s possession, power or control.
Logan Mitchell is a man who’s always been more than happy to take what he wants. It’s a philosophy that’s proven lucrative in both his business and personal life, and never was it more apparent than the night he laid eyes on Tate Morrison. After pulling out all the stops and convincing the sexy bartender to give him a try—he’s hooked.
Now, Logan finds himself in a predicament that demands more from him than a smart-ass answer and his innate ability to walk away when things get too deep.
He has a choice to make, and it’ll force him to do something he’s never done before—take a chance.
Tate Morrison knows all about taking a chance. He took the biggest one of his life the night he showed up at Logan’s apartment to explore his unexpected reaction to the man.
Ever since then, he’s thought about little else.
At first he was convinced his attraction was based solely on his body’s curiosity. But the more time he spends with the silver-tongued lawyer, the more Tate realizes that their physical chemistry is only the beginning.
He’s starting to catch a glimpse of what life with Logan would be like, and it’s one full of excitement and satisfaction—a far cry from what he had in the past with his soon to be ex-wife.
Each man will face their fears as they begin to understand the true meaning of give and take. Their feelings for one another will be tested, as will their very beliefs. But now that they’ve found love where they least expected it, will they be brave enough to reach out and take it?

Denise’s Review:

TRY was my favorite book of 2013.  I read it no less than 6 times–no really SIX!!!!  I love Logan and Tate.  All the stereotypes of crazy readers, I was that person.  And waiting for TAKE seemed interminable to this crazy reader.  I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect.  TRY was all about the men meeting, and Logan getting Tate to TRY something new.  TRY was about the men having hot steamy sex, and learning about each other.  It also was about learning about Logan, how mouthy he could be, what he was willing to do or say to get what he wanted from Tate.

So, with TAKE I wasn’t sure what expect.  I knew there would be hot steamy sex, because, well, it’s Logan and Tate, and those men are seriously HAWT together.  Ms. Frank wrote this book beginning right where TRY left off, and you find the men beginning to find a relationship with each other, despite the obstacles ahead of them. And there are some pretty heavy obstacles.  Finding their way together becomes challenging, as they try to figure out what their relationship is, and how to TAKE what they need from it.   It was also Tate’s turn in this book.  He was able to realize that this was what he wanted, and he was willing to TAKE charge and go for it, leaving Logan slightly confused, but game for whatever was ahead.

I will say this book put me through many emotions, as I think it was intended to.  I felt surprise, joy, sadness, extreme anger, and shed quite a few tears.  And the ending, well, you will love it, and you will be screaming (as I was!) ELLA FRANK, HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO ME!!!! But in the end, you will be happy to know that our boys find their way with each other.  Oh, and they still continue to have some seriously hot steamy sex.  The cover, by the way….you will LOVE that scene!!!!  You will be able to see that scene come to fruition before your very eyes, and it is all worth it.

This book earned 5 pieces of eye candy from me.  But for very different reasons than TRY (which was also 5 pieces of eye candy, if you couldn’t tell by my many re-reads).  TRY was all about the men meeting, and convincing Tate to give this a chance.  TAKE was about emotions and the reality that happens when you can’t control circumstances around you.  It’s a roller coaster ride, and I loved every single minute of it.  I got off the ride, and am already ready to get back on the ride and go again!  Well done Ella, well done!

Val’s Review

Take is the sequel for the amazing book Try by Ella Frank. It starts off right where we left off in the end of Try.
In this book you get to experience so much more emotions between Logan and Tate . Oh, we still get that quick wit banter between them both, but we also get to experience the growth between both Logan and Tate from hot lust to love.
Logan who is normally very comfortable in his own skin, and life, is finding it very hard to get a hold of his emotional feelings, while his brother, Cole, tries to shed some light. Cole is very supportive of Logan and tries to make him get a grip and put his past hurt behind him so he can go and “Take” what is right there waiting for him.
We see a different side of Tate also in here and the decisions he has to face with his not so understanding family and even Logan is surprised to say the least on how everything unfolds .
There is times in this book you just want to smack some people senseless and then also times when u will be at the edge of your seat feeling their individual pain but Ella wrote this so brilliantly that everything just fits in so smoothly. I’m not going to give away anymore because this book is just so amazing that everyone has to experience the feel of how beautiful it was written. All I can say is Game Night was epic omg you will absolutely love this part sooo much.
“Can you sharpen this for me?”
“You want me to play with your pencil, Tate?”
Hilarious. “The sharpener is right by you .
You just have to pick it up and slide it in.”
So you see we still get to witness all the great banter between Logan and Tate but also how much they grown with each other and how they both help to ease each other’s insecurities .
“You saying I’m easy?”
“No…. I’m guessing you’re hard. Really f***ing hard.”
If you haven’t read these great books yet you are missing out on an amazing story. I highly recommend this book, and all I can say is Ella blew us away with this story she is brilliant in all her writing and I cannot wait to read more from Logan and Tate. If I could give it more than 5 pieces of eye candy, I would.

Denise and Val’s Favorite Quotes:
“If I die, I just want you to know, that you have never looked hotter than you do right now, and that is the only reason I am about to risk my life.”
Tate raised a hand, and before he shut the visor, he promised, “I’ll look even hotter in fifteen minutes when I’m naked. So, quit bitching and get on the bike Logan.”
“Fuck you”, he responded.
It was time to move on, time to go to his new safe place. It was time to go to Logan’s.
“But yes, since it seems like that fact needs confirming.  I am having sex with Logan, and you know what? I’ve never been more satisfied in my entire life.”

“That’s your truck?”
“It’s so…”
“So what?” Logan challenged as he pulled his keys from his pocket.
“Excuse me. I’ll have you know I was driving this baby all through college and she still runs like a dream.”
Tate watched as Logan walked over to run his hand over the scratched-up tailgate, and he was amazed that he even made that look sexy. Like he was stroking a lover.
“And it’s a she, huh?”
Now around at the passenger’s side, Logan opened the door and looked at him over the bed of the truck. “Yeah. Jealous?”
Laughing, Tate walked over to where Logan stood with a hand on the door and kissed him slowly on the mouth.
“I’m jealous of anything you stroke like that.”
“Get in the truck, Tate.”
“Or else?”
Logan stepped forward, crowding him back against the inside frame of the vehicle. “You’re not ready for the or else…”

Blog Tour Stop, Excerpt and Giveaway: Let Love Live by Melissa Collins

Who would you become if you lost the only person who ever mattered?
For twenty-six year old Dylan Hopkins, the answer is easy. He’s become no one. Memories of the happier times are all he has left as he finds himself meandering numbly through his now dull life. Though he cares about his work and family dearly, he’s yet to let himself find love again. Afraid of letting go of what he once had, Dylan chooses to keep his heart buried, where it belongs, having died a long time ago.
Conner Michelson is about to change everything Dylan knows. He’s every bit the bad boy persona – tatted up, ex-MMA fighter, but after an injury leaves him unable to fight, he has to rethink his goals. Having just opened his own gym, Conner can cross his first major life accomplishment off his very short list. Next up: find a man he can settle down with and build a family. Seems simple enough – a dream most people have, but when he meets Dylan, his carefree, easy-going life is thrown into a tailspin.
Determined to keep Dylan in his life, Conner vows to resurrect Dylan’s long ago buried heart and let love live once more.

Denise’s Review:
I’m going to start this review with this, I made a mistake when I was reading this book.  I missed three very important words.  “Part One: Before”.  Let me explain.

This book is written in three parts.  “Before”, “After” and “Forever” (with a prologue thrown in, as well).  I won’t explain the meaning of “Before” and “After”, because they will become very clear to you early in the book, and it is really critical to the entire story.

As I finished Part One, and saw the heading for Part Two: After, it all made perfect sense.  I went back to the beginning and found the words “Part One Before” and it was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders because I could allow myself to absolutely love and enjoy this book, from beginning to end.

I won’t give any of this story away, because you truly need to experience the entire thing, start to finish.  However, I will say that if you can finish Part One without a tear in your eye, let me know and I will send someone over to check your pulse.  It was all about love and loss, anger and heartbreak, and makes those three little words so very critical to the story.

I found this book so intriguing.  I have never read a book quite like this.  This book had two love stories in it, not the norm that we are used to of just one.  And yet, it felt so right.  The characters in this book were flawed.  They made mistakes, some huge ones, some that could not be taken back, but those flaws made those characters so very heartfelt in everything they did.  They loved 100%.  And they loved in real life, with all the realities that go along with it.  Anger and despair, along with the joy and happiness.  Dylan’s heart is broken, and only with the patience of a man who loves deeply, could it be mended.

This story brought me through the gamut of emotions.  I laughed, I cried (at least four different times, one being one of those ugly cries we hate), I sighed with happiness, and I questioned some of the decisions of the characters.  Mostly, though, I just let this book take me on the journey it was intended to.  I find that sometimes we try to anticipate where a book is going to take us, what is coming next.  I couldn’t anticipate it, and found that I didn’t want to.  It was a beautiful story, and I can only hope that Ms. Collins sees fit to add a little bit of these fine gentlemen back into another book in this series so we can catch up with them later.

I hope that you can spend some time with this book and appreciate it all.  Definite reread! Final review is 4.5 pieces of eye candy.

Melissa Collins has always been a book worm. Studying Literature in college ensured that her nose was always stuck in a book. She followed her passion for reading to the most logical career choice: English teacher. Her hope was to share her passion for reading and the escapism of books to her students. Having spent more than a decade in front of a classroom, she can easily say that it’s been a dream.
Her passion for writing didn’t start until more recently. When she was home on maternity leave in early 2012, she read her first romance novel and her head filled with the passion, angst and laughter of the characters who she read about it. It wasn’t long before characters of her own took shape in her mind. Their lives took over Melissa’s brain and The Love Series was born.

Blog Tour Review and Giveaway: Make You Mine by Ann Lister

Cooper Rand is the high-energy drummer for his band Ivory
Tower. Everyone is drawn to Cooper; which makes him the go-to party guy for
those lucky enough to call him friend. He loves the lifestyle that comes along
with being a rock star and feels perfectly suited for the role. He is also a
professional when it comes to the hook-up, unwilling to stick around long
enough to allow emotions to enter into what he’s doing. He’s lived his entire
life ‘in the moment’ and it isn’t until he meets Jayson that he begins to
question the direction of his life and if he’s been missing out on something
truly special all this time.
Jayson Keller has spent most of his life living on the
island of Martha’s Vineyard working as a builder. Living on a small island also
has Jayson working overtime to keep his sexual orientation secret. He has
mastered the art of hiding in the closet, but he doesn’t want it to be a
forever thing. Jayson always said if the right man came along he’d happily
leave the safety of his closet and live openly as a gay man. The problem is,
living where he does limits his partner options and finding someone worth
coming out of that closet for seems an unlikely prospect.
A party at Alex Metcalf’s island estate brings Cooper and
Jayson face-to-face. Lightning strikes hot and fast and suddenly their lives
take a whole new path. Has Jayson finally met a man worth leaving his
self-imposed closet? Have a couple of hours spent alone with Jayson opened
Cooper to the idea there is a deeper meaning to life beyond the stage and the
value of a committed relationship? But, a bigoted family and the rock star
lifestyle could ruin everything and keep both men searching for what was
standing right in front of them: a soul mate

Denise’s Review:

I will start off this review by saying that I had not read books 1 and 2 in The Rock Gods series. This did lead to some confusion, for me, on the substory of this book. I realized about two thirds of the way through the book that it primarily takes place at the same time as book 2, the book about the ménage of Alex, Danni and Chase. Once I made that realization it made reading this book quite a bit easier for me. It is a standalone book although I think having the back story of Alex, Danni and Chase would be very helpful. It also made me want to go back and read books 1 and 2.
All that being said this was the story of Jayson, a builder, and Cooper, the band Ivory Tower’s drummer. This was a slow burn love story. They got together immediately upon meeting, but it was initially only as a one night stand. Then that one night began turning into additional times together. Jayson and Cooper lived on opposite coasts, making it challenging for them to find time together, but they managed to fit in phone calls, texts and one very hot and funny Skype session. Once they realized their affections for each other and settled those differences, there were a few small issues that came up that they needed to deal with. These were dealt with quickly as they seem to have a very good rapport, and although initially they found it difficult to communicate, they were able to resolve those issues.
Initially I had a hard time connecting with Cooper probably due to my ideas of the rockstar thing. Then I had a hard time understanding Jason’s confidence and communication issues. I realized quickly though, that they just needed to learn.  That in the end, they were just learning how to be in a relationship. But when they were together I really felt the connection between the two, it was instant and strong. And once they were able to accept support from the other person that connection just grow stronger.
However all that being said I found that the connection between the two continued to grow, and although much of their focus was on themselves and their relationships they were able to support other people important to them.
They were truly sweet together, and one of the things I really liked was that they made spending time together a priority. That was so important in a relationship where insecurities and mistrust could easily destroy them especially with Cooper being a rock star, and all the potential situations that can be created from there.
My final determination, 4 pieces of eye candy, and a mental note to grab books 1 and 2.  🙂

Val’s Review:

This book starts off on how Cooper Rand drummer for Ivory Tower and Jayson Keller a contractor living on Martha’s Vineyard met in Book #2 Take What You Want.
I was taken in from page one with this book. Ann Lister took us on a journey that was so beautiful, you get to feel the emotions from these two men from the minute they met. Their attraction to each other were immediate, although both these men never before had done more than casual “Hook Ups” the more they saw of each other they both realized this was way more than a fling.
Feelings became almost to much for them to handle, we do meet a very hateful character Ron who is Jayson’s step dad.

I can’t stress enough how beautiful this story is, taking us through everything Cooper and Jayson went through to get to a place that made them both comfortable in their relationship together. I recommend that you read Book #1 Fall For Me and Book #2 Take What You Want first so you get a better picture if all the characters leading Up to Cooper and Jayson’s story. This is definitely a 5 piece of eye candy read for me.

                                          Book Blurb

Powerful yet tormented modern warlock Quinn
Fairmont must initiate the silver-eyed Cade Mairston into the world of
witchfinders, Withinners, and what can happen when two men fall truly, madly,
deeply in love.

In modern London there lurks a warlock, Quinn
Fairmont. Dangerous, powerful, tortured, sharing his body with the soul of an
ancient Welsh sorcerer, Quinn is never alone—and never wholly himself. He
fights against all those who would exploit his kind. He takes pleasure where he
can find it.
In the forest of Hampstead Heath, Quinn’s hometown,
Cade Mairston appears to him like a waking dream. Lithe, lean and silver-eyed,
he evokes feelings in Quinn unlike any other: lust with true affection,
immediate and shocking. Cade is clearly more than he seems. And yet, if a man
of the world, Cade is innocent. He knows nothing of warlocks, witchfinders or
Withinners. He knows nothing of what he is, what he might be, or what he might
feel. For him, the story is just beginning. Magyck, peril and passion await.

Denise’s Review (original blog review from 3/31)

I will start this review by admitting that I was a bit hesitant to read Double Alchemy.  I have only read one other paranormal book,
and it was far more comedy than paranormal.
I enjoyed it, but it did not instill a love of paranormal.  However, because it was Susan Mac Nicol, I knew this was a must read.  In fact, I had previously
hesitated on a few of her books, for no real reason other than my own fears!  Susan writes so deeply and with such
intensity that sometimes the book description has scared me off a little, although after reading them, I have no idea why.  That being said, I have read all of her M/M
books now, and after finally reading Saving Alexander, I said that I would no
longer hesitate, and immediately bought Double Alchemy.  As always, Susan did not disappoint.
This story is about Cade, an anthropologist, who happens
upon Quinn, the Warlock King, in the woods.
Quinn immediately knows that Cade is his soulmate, but he also has
Sprite in him, making them irresistible to each other.  Their attraction is immediate, animalistic,
and HOT!!!!  When these two men come
together, sparks fly.
“Cade’s head swam and he had no idea how he
suddenly ended up totally naked, his clothes in puddles at his feet, with Quinn
busy stripping down with demonic speed…Fuck, the man must have big feet.  I don’t know how that’s ever going to fit
inside me.”
I absolutely loved these Cade and Quinn together.  Although Quinn was the Grand Master, Warlock
King, and full of magyck, Cade would not let him get away with even the
slightest things.  Cade saw Quinn as the
human, with faults and annoying habits, and loved him anyway.  Cade was never nervous about telling Quinn
where to put those bad habits, either, no matter who was around.  And they were able to enjoy each other, have
fun and laugh together.
“’Hell, Cade, you are trouble.  I knew that the minute I saw you in the woods
that day.’ Cade’s mouth curved in a sexy smile and Quinn’s cock pushed against
his zipper. ‘That’s trouble with a capital T, girlfriend,’ Cade camped up.”
Quinn, on the other hand, although a true Alpha male, adored
Cade, and would do anything for him, even risking his life to save Cade.  They were great opposites who fit together
perfectly like two halves of a whole.
One of the things that I enjoyed about this book was the
action.  There was a lot going on, and
things kept brewing up, would be settled, then more would come up.  However, my concern with paranormal has
always been that I wouldn’t quite understand what was happening (okay, that
might have been just my own fear) but Susan made sure that the reader
understood all the magyck as the men worked through all their trials and
tribulations.  There were so many
layers to this book, and yet Susan made it possible to not only follow
along but kept you wondering as to what else could come up!
Although, there is not a cliffhanger, there were definitely
enough unanswered questions that I can smell a Warlock King and Fey Sprite
Volume 2 ahead.  And I, for one, can’t
wait!  (I might have seen a posting somewhere that the “Climax” is in edits.  Woo Hoo!)
If I had one thing that I would say on the other side, it
would be that there were a few errors in the book that perhaps should have been caught during editing, but not
enough to take away from the heart of the story.
For my first true paranormal book, it was really a great
adventure.  For a Susan Mac Nicol, it was
another amazing book.  It was full of
lots of undeniable love, hot sex scenes, action and interesting secondary
characters (I am sure there is more to Marco than appears initially!).
I am giving this book a solid 4.9 pieces of eye candy.
